Between 1996 and 2002, Israelis harvested organs of dead Palestinians. This information is supported by a statement from an Israeli doctor, Meira Weiss, who claimed organs were taken from dead Palestinians during that period and used for various purposes. Additionally, an Israeli pathologist admitted to harvesting organs from dead bodies, including Palestinians, without permission of the families, during the 1990s.

The issue also emerged with publication of an interview with the then-head of Israel's Abu Kabir forensic institute, Dr. Jehuda Hiss.
