Burning Man disaster leaves 72,000 trapped in mud
This year’s Burning Man festival turned into a catastrophe thanks to freak rains, completely cutting off the event from the civilized world and leaving 72,000 revelers without food, water or working bathroom facilities.
The event was a victim of the weather from the start, with the dregs of Hurricane Hilary forcing organizers to close the gates to early arrivals. However, the rains at the end of the festival during the eponymous Burning Man were even more disastrous. The heaviest rainfall in 30 years turned the playa into a mud bath, preventing anyone from entering and leaving, including service for the festival’s sanitation facilities.
