Palestinian held without charge gets 8 more months' jail as earlier deal breached
An Israeli court has extended the detention of Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawdeh, initially detained under a contentious law that allows the arrest of Palestinians on the basis of undisclosed evidence, and their being held without charge or trial. Khalil went on hunger strike to protest Israel's detainment policy, and his release was negotiated half a year later –with Israeli authorities now walking back on that agreement and sentencing him to additional time in jail.
