The 360 View | Pop culture in politics
President Joe Biden is looking to fuel his reelection bid with an endorsement from one of the nation’s biggest stars — Taylor Swift. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is trying to tell his donors he is more popular than the international pop star and that his base is larger and more loyal than the Swifties. Trump enjoys a base of supporters who have proven immovable, but Swift’s fans have also become known for their die-hard commitment to her. One Instagram post from the singer about National Voter Registration Day caused a 1,226% jump in traffic to the website she linked to, Vote.org. The nonpartisan nonprofit recorded more than 35,000 registrations, a 23% jump from the mid-term election year of 2022. On this episode of 360 View, Scottie Nell Hughes and her firey panel of experts (Desi K. Robinson - Health Professor, Doula - Media Analyst; Lionel – Attorney and Media Analyst; Bryson Gray - Rapper) discuss how pop culture has become engrained within politics and how this could bode for those convicted on January 6th.

Russian art park burns artwork to end pancake week
It’s pancake week in Russia (yes, that’s a thing), or Maslenitsa as it’s called. So in celebration, an ‘art park’ in Russia’s Kaluga Region has decided to mark the occasion in the only way it knows how: setting fire to a giant pile of stuff. The ‘Black Mountain’ might look like a bonfire made of random bits of waste, but to the trained eye it’s an artwork made out of eco-friendly materials (that just happen to be waste). Or at least, it was. Visitors to the Nikola-Lenivets art park were able to enjoy some delightfully lo-fi rides and climb the giant pile of art, before it was set on fire, which was apparently also art. As a reminder, this is celebrating the last week before Lent.
Nikola-Lenivets is Russia’s largest art park and has been burning art since 2001.

Effigies of Biden and Zelensky burned by LPR in response to election disruption
Protesters in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) have burned effigies of Presidents Biden and Zelensky as part of the annual Maslenitsa celebrations in response to attempts to disrupt the Russian elections. Kiev reportedly hit several areas of the LPR with drones during voting on Sunday, including a residential area and an oil depot. Elsewhere in Russia, there have been numerous incidents involving ballot box sabotage, many of which were done by people influenced by Ukrainian scammers.
A local resident commented on the effigy burning, saying it was the right thing to do. 'They [Biden and Zelensky] killed so many people.’

‘Trump’ and ‘Biden’ cast their votes in Russian election
Is it us, or is there just not enough nightmare fuel around today? We’re here to rectify that with this heartwarming footage of ‘Trump’ and ‘Biden’ putting aside their political differences to vote in the Russian election, courtesy of these two utterly charming and not at all terrifying mask-wearers in Lobnya, Moscow Region.
Trump’s eye holes appeared to be malfunctioning, so he was forced to link arms with his rival for balance, while Biden said he planned to vote for himself 67,000,000 times. When told he couldn’t do this in the Russian election, Biden mumbled something about ice cream then got lost.

Trump praises January 6 ‘hostages’
Donald Trump has been out campaigning again, and that means the American media have been complaining about him campaigning again. On the agenda for his latest rally in Dayton, Ohio: the January 6 undocumented museum tour/insurrectionist coup (please delete as your political bias requires). As Trump invaded the stage, an announcer announced ‘Please rise for the horribly and unfairly treated January 6 hostages,’ which was followed by a rousing rendition of the US national anthem, performed by the ‘J6 Prison Choir’ featuring a pledge of allegiance by Trump. As Trump began his speech, he reiterated the point: ‘that’s what they are – hostages.’
One of Trump’s campaign pledges is to pardon all of those convicted for being involved in the January 6 violent attempt to overthrow the government/slight milling about (once again, delete as applicable), a pledge which has, as Trump pledges often do, divided opinion. Similarly divided is the opinion of his already infamous ‘bloodbath’ quote, which was either Trump promising to go on an ultra-violent killing spree, or Trump warning about the economic downturn in the automotive industry, depending on whether you heard the deceptively edited version of the quote or not.
