XM5 Raptor US Army’s Prototype

This is a very unusual full powered battle rifle with an impossibly short barrel. Find out how this US Army prototype M4 replacement is able to achieve a high muzzle velocity in this video. It fires the very high powered 68 x 51 mm cartridge from the shortest barrel configuration that I’ve ever seen for this kind of weapon. Normally this kind of large caliber is reserved for barrels longer than at least 13 inches so that it can have enough muzzle velocity to hit targets at 800 meters.

So what’s different here, why does the NGSW Raptor work where others have failed? If you tried making a high powered gun with a short barrel in the past it was impossible to reach the necessary muzzle velocity from an impossibly short 8 inch barrel. But Thanks to advances in modern ammo technology that’s no longer the case!

Firing the gun felt great because of its compact size this meant that the center of gravity was is in closer to my body so I was able to easily control it. The trigger pull felt very similar to the trigger on the M4 in a good way, it’s very responsive and doesn’t require too much pressure to engage.
