Peru government accused of using extreme violence to suppress protests

Peru’s official human rights organization has claimed that the military has used extreme measures to suppress rallies against the ousting of former President Pedro Castillo, using helicopters and dropping tear gas on protesters.
The situation in the country reportedly destabilized shortly after the US Ambassador to Peru met with the country's defense minister before Castillo’s impeachment.
