The Vulture is Sarasota's Dirtiest and Most Obnoxious Bird.

While there are 130 different species of birds that live near me in #Sarasota, the vulture is by far the nastiest and most brazen of all birds.

These dirty birds will literally eat anything that they don't have to kill on their own, which makes #roadkill the ideal breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert for the vulture.

It doesn't matter if you are in a jacked up Ford F-150, on an electric scooter, or on foot, the vulture won't move if it thinks you are after it's mashed street meal.

Another thing to note about this dirty, soul snatching bird is that it typically doesn't travel alone. That's right, the vultures are usually flying at least 4-6 deep and fighting over the carcass.

Want some fun facts of vultures? Not every culture thinks they are disgusting.

Fact #1: Egyptian Beliefs of the Vulture

Ancient Egyptians believed that all vultures were female and were spontaneously born from eggs without the intervention of a male, and therefore linked the birds to purity and motherhood, but also the eternal cycle of death and rebirth for their ability to transform the “death” they feed on into life.

Fact #2: Mesoamerican Beliefs of the Vulture

In Pre-Columbian times, vultures were appreciated as extraordinary beings and they had high iconographic status. Vultures appear in many Mesoamerican myths, legends, and fables, with many separate civilizations such as the Mayan and Aztec developing a range of stories around vultures. Many Mesoamerican stories depict vultures negatively, while others contain more positive attitudes.
