We See Some Arched Cabins In Timberon, NM. The Tours Are By The Guy Who Invented Them, And His Wife.

You remember the lots from the other day. Today we visited models of the arched cabin kind of house we intend to put on them.
It's still tough for me to film around people I don't know. Or people I do know.
Also, there's a video shot in the deep overnight of Alamogordo that doesn't appear in sequence here, and may never. So I was a little more tired than I should have been, to do it perfectly right.
I want to get home to my existing house and town and walk and think hard about what comes next.

We went to the adobe conference. It wasn't about adobe, but it did get me thinking about housing on a big philosophical scale.
The coffee was great.
We visited the land and started to think about how to make dreams real.
There are ways to help, but I'm not going to bother you with them right now.

About two weeks worth of videos ago, I briefly mentioned that after you head south over the 77 bridge and turn left, you're on 180.
Also that 180 would be important later.

We run to the pretty town up the hill, to take in the mountain air, but mostly to shop for good things. Meanwhile, we're working on ways to make those trips less frequent or essential, including having ButcherBox, Misfits Market, and Equal Exchange mailed out to us in the sticks.

I hauled the big camera on the big tripod all the way down.
I wish to hell I'd brought the big deadcat windscreen too ...
But if wishes were goats then beggars would have artisan cheese.
Carrying that rig back through town excited some comment in the neighborhood. I was stopped twice by locals. Honestly I think their first impression was that I was carrying a mortar or at least an oversized shotgun. But when they saw it was a fancy camera, they relaxed and wanted to know more.
I got some good tips on where to go for hiking around here, a little further out--drive-to spots.
I may have got one more subscriber.
987 more to go for monetization. Yeah.

It's brand new and quite charming. The coffee itself--we're cautiously optimistic--Barista Greg is at the very beginning of a learning curve, and well-intentioned. ; )
Also, I visit the horse, and am pleasantly surprised by the appearance of an Apache train on the Apache tracks at a time when I had no intention of trying to cross them anyway.

Hoof Ten | A Rare Exception: The Goat That Found The Heavenlyriver Trail

A Watershed Moment, and I do say it with a wink.
This was edited down to ten minutes from maybe 3x that much footage.
Partly this was because of rampant raging wind noise, but partly this was because the little goats cheered my ass up after I'd been muttering for several minutes; and the way things turned out, the whinging was inappropriate to the evolutionary happiness of the day.
I forgive you all your trespasses insofar as you forgive them, that trespass against you. Myself included. Amen.

We made the ceviche somehow. I had some and then I ran out to the riverbottom and got stopped by the mud. Listen, I know it doesn't sound like it, but it's worth watching anyway. If only as a setup for the major adventure that tomorrow will surely be.

A sepia-toned Saturday morning morphs into a better day. The walking streak remains unbroken; I reward myself with the shortest road trip ever.

Things To See In Holbrook Arizona | Daily Hoof #6 | The Opposite of Tourism | HAAC-R
What to see, what to do, a road trip to twentyfour hours in Holbrook and I do mean Arizona; this is all just verbiage I'm using to try to understand the algo better and why some videos get 100+ views instead of nine or whatever.
That's why my face is reluctantly up front in this one too. I sense the general Ya'll likes faces in your videos. I can't figure out why. Personally I'd rather look at a bush or a cloud, than a face. Especially my own.
What the hell do Ya'll want? I mean you too, bots.
The good news is that today's walk was a major success in terms of finding a good place to walk regularly. The southwesterly flood wall is really where it's at. In this one, we go there.
Tomorrow I think we'll probably go again--either a straight shot to map the whole length of the thing, or a side trip to find the unicorn of the walkable river without driving, or ... both.
I think I'm going to need three more pieces of regularly carried kit. The first is the tripod to eliminate shakycam, and that is already attached for tomorrow.
After that: gunboots, okay?
HAAC-R is Holbrook Arizona Artists Church Reformed.
Or Collective instead of Church if you prefer, but then you've got to figure out a Replacement R instead of Reformed. Maybe you already have.

Holbrook Arizona Artists Collective | Daily Hoof #5 | Attempt The River Again
You are on a summer road trip to the dry sunny West. Eightyfive miles over the Arizona line, you exit and find yourself staying downtown at a motel that lacks one of those No Train Noise signs and is in fact right next to the tracks.
Although the accomodations are less than ideal, you find yourself staying night after night. Maybe you are hypnotized. Maybe you are somehow metaphysically trapped. Maybe it's just time for a change.
Day after day you begin to walk the surrounding areas, carving your own paths past the blockages and around the no-trespassing signs, doggedly trying to outfox the fences of the ranchers and the city and the railroad bulls and break through to an exit from the town that is not an interstate or even a state route.
Today, this is what you providentially saw.
At the gasping end of May, this is what you literally found.

Holbrook Arizona Things To Do In and Why | I Don't Mean That Literally | The Daily Hoof #3
I've been messing around with AI image generators, in addition to the walks and the drive and the filming, I went through a few 'best of' lists and ignored any of them that asked for money, or even signing up for an account up front. My favorite one from what was left is called dezgo dot com and I crafted the cool thumbnail today on that site.
Someday soon I'll mess with something better though still free.
Tomorrow I want to talk about Place more generally and maybe break a small law or two.

A late start, noisy start, hot start. A long walk and fewer filmed clips, but longer ones, on average. Do you care about any of that? It would be hard to see why you would, but ... hey either way; w/o judgment on either end yah.
At the far end we find a tentative peace and feel our way toward the true nature of this emerging section of the overall project.

Holbrook, Arizona | The Daily Hoof #1 | Not a Tourist | Definitely Not With The Chamber of Commerce
Holbrook, Arizona, Known to Hollywood as Sand Rock.
When they put the rail line through here, the ... pioneers, let's call them, drove their cattle north to that rail from the prettier, higher, better-watered areas to the south.
Eventually they did the same thing to the Apache man they called 'Geronimo', and loaded him too onto an eastbound train forever like so much human livestock.
That is the original sin of the place.
The depot still stands but the trains don't stop here anymore.
In these days, I relate how I came to be figuratively imprisoned here myself, and how I embrace the personal responsibility for that, and why I decided to start walking through this town every day, and sometimes filming as I go.
In this introductory video to the series, I only briefly mention a plan to escape my imprisonment.
If it even deserves the name of Plan, yet still.

Summer Road Trip 23-1, Day 9 ... 10 ... etc.
lost a lot of good footage in and around this point. It may have been technological malfunction, or user error, or some combination. In any event ...
On day nine we went through crowded rainy hell along I-20 from Jackson, MS to Longview, TX, and we started rushing it a little more than we should've.
Toward the end of day ten we finally turned the corner north along US Hwy 84 and the 97th Parallel and slept in Lubbock.
On day eleven we made New Mexico, and then Arizona, and really started to come apart at the seams psychologically. We called a longer halt at home in Sand Rock (the 'middle' episode with Kali cat was made during it), and that was enough to get us the remaining 314 miles to our destination on the outskirts of Vegas on day twelve, and still have just barely enough in our soul tanks to get both trucks unloaded and parked empty at a storage place, a couple of miles from the Penske outpost, where we turned them back in early on the 13th day.
Summer Road Trip 23-1 Day 8: Double Breakdown In Mobile
The first trouble came the first night, got fixed fairly quick, and then we slept in Tallahassee. Coming throught the tunnel in Mobile, her truck started coughing and sputtering, again. We parked at the churches, got on the road again, and then it died the third and final time just up the road in Semmes.
They brought us a new one, transloaded into it, and hauled the dead one away. It took most all the day. We slept in Saradale and then we started all over again.

Summer Road Trip 23-1 Day 7: Trouble Starts Early
The Jacksonville traffic was bad. Too many chucklefucks driving too close in the rain was worse. But then before we could even get out of the state, one of the trucks broke down. Just a fuel filter, they said, but they would be proven wrong a day later.
But we made it Tallahassee and got some basic form of sleep at least.
