Summer Road Trip 23-1, Days 5 and 6: Scenes From A Saint Augustine
We had two full mostly non-working days in the smaller cities of northern coastal Florida from Daytona up to before Jacksonville.
Summer Road Trip 1, Episode 4: Mississippi And Due East to the Atlantic
A lot of Hattiesburg and a little of Mobile, over to Tallahassee ...
Summer Road Trip 1, Episode 3: Weatherford, TX to Mississippi
We hit some rain but it didn't slow us down much.
Other drivers in the rain ... that's always another story.
The problem that I have with the East is simple overpopulation.
But they do have water and tea stores, and real Mexican markets all over the place. And I do want to visit the Atchafalaya someday.
But for livin' day to day, I'm happy where I am.

Driving, cinematography, editing, and uploading all at once on the fly is a lot of work in every part of the day and night.
But they'll get better.
I have some ideas.

programming-note
I'm experimentally uploading the GoPro's .lrv file instead of the full .mp4 because it's much smaller; therefore much quicker to send up through the sky, and that might come in handy on the road if I really want to get stuff to you in more or less real time.
It's seriously like about a minute or two instead of an hour--pray forgive any loss in image quality.

Trucks, Roads, The Price of Gas, and the Cost of Just Living
When I get made of money I'll probably get a 250, Super Duty Amen, but the fact is that even thinking about it is just me distracting myself, for now.
Real life is right in front of me. In back of me in the pocket that holds the sleek cork wallet. Et
Cetera. Gas jumped 30 cents and what that has to do with is who got the most votes, and that was the neolib sanction boy.
"In the three battleground states that turned the Electoral College his way—Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin—he won by a total of 44,000 votes".
So in some twisted way I really did count, but I wouldn't count on that next time, my dog-faced pony soldier friend.

Summer Road Trip Part Zero: The Real Actual True Sand Rock
I'm not going to link the 'get pro' video I mentioned because I also called the guy (a little meanly) 'dweeby', but if you care a lot the title of the video is:
Getting your first 1,000 email signups - Substack Writer Workshop ...
you can figure it out from there.
I will tag another person who I helped and that is @ArtbyLouise .
We could not be more different, but her ASMRy manner soothed me, her advice was quite sound, and I'm grateful. (I doubt she's on Rumble--that was written for YT).

The Dawn of Everything: David Graeber, David Wengrow, and me in a white pickup with my Black Pill
Guys, guys, it's not so bad. It's the International Geophysical Year.
We can have our technocake and eat it in freedom, and prosperity too!
A post-capitalist Society with a truly level playing field planted with opportunity is possible. There'll be Spandex jackets, one for everyone. You will trade your homegrown organic barley for an iPhone 24 and all the bad people will be dead, or reformed and contrite. Even the billionaires. It's the Paradise Earth and even the lions and snakes will eat nothing but vegan grass.
Call it Heaven or call it a vertically built condominium financed by philanthropists and sage phiilosopher-kings, but for God's sake don't call it late for dinner lol!
This video brought to you by the truly humane (we mean it this time, no PR bullshit) folks at Progress Incorporated, which is of course a worker-owned cooperative that practices sustainability, woke equality, and karmic doublespeak that would make even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Lauren Boebert both blush like a hussy brides; that's a fact of Science.
***
If I was sane and rational, I'd be depressed as fuck right now. But I'm not. Why is that? I don't know but for all the good bad god devil reasons
I'm the other kind.

If you'd like a good general overview of the ideas of Wengrow (&Graeber), you can check out his TED talk (I'm not making that up):

Solstice22 Part2: LevelOut de la Cienega, Broken Record, regret if you want, but do The Work ennaway
But then again, too few to mention. Isn't that what we were fed?
It only takes one. But 1 for us, or 1 hundred billion for stormtroopers and puppets, an ugly paint smell that passes or an ugly society that takes over the world and colonizes brains in the process -- there is no god but Mr. Blue Sky and his lady the Queen of the Moon.
Let them lie, because they will anyway reflexively, habitually, sometimes consciously--it's the only way they know to survive.
I have another.
There are no good words to describe it, so these words will have to do.

Santa Brought A New Pellet Stove
Jesus, what a day.
As you'll see at today's spill-post, it started early, with the Fireplace Store service guys crashing my sanctuary, and eventually telling me that the old stove was broke and a new part was weeks away.
I never even heard the term "supply chain issues" until the last few years. Now they are a daily fact of life. What is wrong with you, dear Industrialist Profiteers? Didn't we beat the rona months ago? Yes we did. We did not, however, beat the decline of kapitalism and Empire. Welcome to the new normal.
I went online to the big box store. They had plenty of diesel heaters listed. But when I got there in person--nope, outta stock. Order online and wait. Yeah okay (you lying sacks of mutter mutter).
I came home and I wrote my spill-post. (It is way better than this video, just saying; check it out).
I also had a great batch of texts, and one call, with the landlady. No, let me call her the Homeowner, because she is better than any land-person I've ever known, and way better than some of them. She just bought a new stove and told the boys to get on it pronto.
The video starts there.
I mucked up the audio again, and then in the edit I mucked up a long clip in the middle.
I am forgiving myself, but only with a stern paternalistic admonition to try to be more present in the moment even when things are crazy. To be, in essence, a better version of my belletristic self, even if "my best self" continues to be a mirage and a damn lie concocted by the Oprahs of the world, and other conspirators.
I am the Anomalous and so are we.
Do the work anyway.
Order that better microphone boy. And a tripod. And a diesel heater.
Meet the new dawn with a breath of new fire.

The Moments Before The Very Merry Solstice To You and Me Both
"Blackhole Sun, wontcha come, won''t you cuuum ... "
I've never been diagnosed, and I may almost certainly be sort of undiagnosable.
Sometimes I'm sure I'm spergy and other times I'm sure that's not it.
They tell me I'm a Virgo. I say yeah, Virgo Sun but conjunct Pluto in the Seventh, which it IS a planet so fuck you Neil DeGrasse and pass the ammunition.
Whether or not I'm bipolar, I am definitely coming up out of a blackness and therefore sounding a tiny bit manic even to myself. Just like the seasons are, in these days of winter's solstice.
On the way home from shooting this I stopped off at the Buzz and it was not Tranquil. It was absolutely jammed and I waited in line for twenty minutes while the lone barista/cashier struggled valiantly. Dale man, stop squeezing the eagle so hard and hire. Hire me for example. Or don't; it may not be a good idea for either of us. Dafuque do I know.
Behind me during the whole twenty minutes, two professors chatted while the lady professor's dog tried to snatch the gluten-free brownie from my hand like a canine grasshopper. Even though I was lifting up into that joyful manic phrase, their conversation was black as sin for me. Apparently this is the first day of their break. The talk was full of money and the lack of it. The talk was full of phrases like "my best self" when it was transparently clear to me that neither of them had the slightest clue what their best self was yet, or where it lived, or where it had lived.
I tried not to listen. It sort of worked.
See the problem was not with them so much. They were bright. They were earnest. They cared, they said things that made them seem caring and altruistic. I'm sure their mothers loved them and maybe daddy too.
But even so I could only barely stand it and I rehearsed my order over and over again to myself to try to keep from the torture.
"Coffee. Large. Hot. Lightly roasted. To go. Splash of milk.
Am i ... forgetting anything?"
No. I am not.
And maybe that might be my real diagnosis.

Tiny Home Fest Weekend Trip: Part 1, Getting There, NM Mountainhome to Scottsdale, AZ
I got up very early to make it to Tinyfest SW on time (more or less).
During the drive over I considered the rightness of the land between here and there for permanent or more likely temporary habitation. The journey is just as important as the destination, sometimes.
My creative work, including but not limited to this channel, is all available at vairtere.com ... Likes, comments, and subscribes all help, but what I'd really like is if you shared this channel or a specific video with someone in your life who could really find it helpful, useful, or just soothing. Thanks.

A Very Practical Vanlife Title for one of those weirdly abstract video Musings
She gave me the side-eye once-over twice, but it's her own fault for getting in my damn shot.
Life has been so like that, inside my head and otherwise.
I should be in the fairly sunny reasonably windless outside right now putting the finishing touches on making the Roof Top Tent habitable and filming it. But I needed a walk, and mid-walk I needed to vent out, and so I'm typing this instead.
The world seems ever more crowded. Table saws aside, raw land and perfect trailers aside, permanent habitation less than a mile from the Co-op aside, the ultimate point remains Getting Out Of The Way with a degree of style and all the basic needs met.
How to get there is an enduring mystery.

We Saw Bobcats. We saw Big Lake. We saw the parade by accident.
The day after we ran up to Prettytown, knocked out some errands, and then crashed back at SandRock.
Then we woke and made another drive, full circle the long way back to San Vicente de la Cienega. This quick rough vid is about that yesterday.
I didn't have plans to pull the camera out at all, but when we found ourselves at Big Lake I did anyway. That's the first windy clip. This is one of the most remote parts of the AZ high country, as you can tell from the wolf habitat sign. It was lusciously beautiful up there and I hope that comes through.
With the action cam in my pocket, I made a second clip, of Alli sleeping like the cool travel cat she's becoming. She seems to be feeling much better, and she's looking good too.
On down the 180, we saw bobcats in the road near Cliff. The last of them vanishing around the corner makes the thumbnail for this one. I will post a larger version of that pic at the blog as I struggle to get caught up over there.
Coming down into town at dusk they were blocking off the streets. We unloaded the rental car, set up the Gilanet, went downtown to eat, and found ourselves nearly in the middle of the holiday parade.
It's very early on Sunday morning as I write from "home" and give you this early homespun gift.
The work is brewing and doing, and can always be done better, and that's the idea. Pray for me as dawn breaks.

Vanlife First Steps (RoofTop Tent) (Installation) (Smittybilt) (Previews of Coming Attractions)
Road tripping at home (if that's a thing) for nigh on two weeks--thumbnail is of the primary thing I got done during them.
Pulling in an income flow is still the first thing to solve in the remaining ten rental weeks. But if and how and when that happens will determine a lot of the next steps. In the meantime, the installation will soon be covered in a video yet to come--this is just a fast heya to reacquaint myself with this process and with you.
