Gabor Maté | On Politics, Spirituality and the Wisdom of Trauma
I went out. To a movie. It was worth it. I hope you get the chance to see it sometime too.
But either way, you can learn from the man anytime for free on YT ... there's great volumes of stuff from him in many venues. I want to post you one in particular--a version of this clip appears inside the movie, and it is a nice succint demo of Dr. Mate's working style. Thanks also to Tim.

Fire and Chill • Deep Sleeping Music, Relaxing Music, Ambient, Meditation ...
Relaxation sound for slipping off to sleep peacefully, studying without distraction, or just paradoxically chillin' by the fire.
It is just as important to me to help soothe your spirit fear, as it is to contextualize and validate your sociopolitical anger, and we'll find new ways to do both, over time.
This is also an experiment in a kind of collaboration, since I am not a musician. I went looking for music by other people that both spoke to me and was legal to use. So under the Creative Commons model (Attribution 4.0), I am both obligated and happy to attribute and thank the generous composer of the piece, which is called Higher Than Possible. His name is Andrew Kn.

The video is of the pellet stove in my rental house in the New Mexico mountains, and is released under vaguely similar permissions.

"Getting The Hell Out (of The Way)" [dance edit]
Spirit Fear, Impolitic Loathing, nowhere near any vegas that's for sure.
I know it might make you a little concerned about me, but ...
The Work is keeping me warm It's true
and there are pellets in the stove besides. I cook
my own meals. My plans evolve warped but I am
not a danger to myself, or others
so long as the others are not
leaders of Moloch, or followers
I'm only just reaching out to YOU
my fellow traveler
on the road to out
of The Way.

Funny Animals To Cheer You Up (Cult of Progress Edition)
Cuteness Overload Trigger Warning!
Okay, now I am being a tiny bit cynical, but I mean what I say about that, within the borders of the piece.
Again I'm starting all over, even if it is part four, or five ...
Once more to the beginning of History, the day the ice melted, the day we found that homestead with the first silo and started making a living, instead of living.

Not a Master ... Not a Slave
This is both a culmination of what's been going on inside my head since I came down here, and the beginning of a new narrative, to be continued.

A Pair of Bukowskis
Yes a pair; not twins though. One doesn't drink enough and the other too much.
The steady background noise in this one comes from a pellet stove, and the pellet stove is also a very nice metaphor, for the superficial differences between us, the differences between San Pedro and La Cienega de San Vicente.

The Equal Exchange coffee came. And the box with the kitchen knife and other small things. The third box, though ... gamechanger.

How To French Press Good Coffee
I've tried a lot of ways. This is my favorite path to a good cup of joe to start my day, especially if the world is full of cool weather.
I looked for an affiliate link to Equal Exchange coffee but the only ones I found ran through Amazon, so that remains an imperfectlly solved problem. Check EE out anyway. I didn't stress that they're cheap, too. I just re-ordered and it was USD 9.50 a pound for the best whole bean you can buy. Anarcho-syndicalism now!

Field Hand
Audio of it available all over these Tubes and I encourage you to listen to the original--this man is a much better speaker than I am. But instead of playing it, for various reasons, I chose to find a transcript

... and give it to you through me.
I'll say more, because I have to say more, in a spill, later.
Uncompromising
Compromises WILL be made whether we like it or not.
But the compromise doesn't have to be total.
It costs to compromise, and it costs too, to resist.
You get to pick your poison. Life is a miracle.

Getting Started With Starlink: Unboxing, Installation, Issues, Review
Early in the afternoon the FedEx truck finally showed up with my Starlink Residential Internet system. Here's what happened next. Spoiler: I'm uploading this video on the StarLink. So it must have gone okay, right?
Color me guardedly optimistic.

The Flip
Contextual defintion of The Flip: It's a fifteen, maybe more like twenty year old piece of point-and-shoot kit just used for taking videos. Interesting to me that while the video quality was very rough as expected, the audio is actually pretty good.
I made this clip for Sunday using it. Not sure I'll ever make another, using it, but maybe. It does have vast volumes of retro cool.

Lo-Fi
It sounds dumb, but looking at this arched doorway in sepia really is nostalgic. It reminds me of the apartments I rented in Northwest Portland for two hundred a month.
The Nikon Coolpix A10 doesn't seem to have USB for getting the files off it. But it had an old 4GB storage card in it, and I made it work.
