Every year on March 20th, World Storytelling Day celebrates the art of oral storytelling. It’s also a day for people around the globe to listen and tell stories in as many languages as possible.

Many of us go throughout the day engaging in oral storytelling without even realizing it. Have you ever made up a bedtime story for your children? Have you ever told a friend about your most embarrassing moment? What about recounting a childhood memory with a sibling? These are all examples of oral storytelling.
Oral storytelling is about illuminating experiences for an audience. This audience could be anyone, including your kids or spouse. Professional storytellers also tell stories to whole groups of people. When telling a story, most people use gestures, facial expressions, and different tones of voice.
There are many good things about oral storytelling. Besides creating a bonding environment, oral storytelling provides rich opportunities to reminisce and helps to connect our past to our present. Oral storytelling also fosters creativity and encourages visualization.

WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY – March 20
WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY
Every year on March 20th World Oral Health Day encourages people worldwide to pledge to look after their oral health.
According to the FDI World Dental Association, oral diseases affect nearly 4 billion people around the globe. Untreated tooth decay is the most prevalent oral health issue. Other common oral health issues around the world include gum disease, oral cancer, and tooth loss. About 30% of people between the ages of 65 and 74 have no natural teeth.
When a person has poor oral health, it may affect their physical appearance. This contributes to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Poor oral health even contributes to problems in school, at work, and in relationships.
Besides affecting physical appearance, poor oral hygiene leads to a variety of health issues including cardiovascular disease, dementia, chronic infections, diabetes, pregnancy complications, and kidney disease.
The good news is that good oral hygiene can greatly reduce or eliminate many of these oral health issues. This includes brushing the teeth twice a day, daily flossing, and routine dental exams. Unfortunately, however, due to a lack of dental supplies and access to dentists, people in underdeveloped countries struggle with maintaining good oral health.
HOW TO OBSERVE WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY
Dental associations around the world, along with dentistry students, dentists, and other health professionals hold free dental screenings, free oral cancer screenings, and oral health seminars. Some dentists provide free or low-cost basic dental services. Other dentists hold toothbrush drives. Dentists collect new toothbrushes and other dental supplies during the toothbrush drive and disperse them to local charities.
The best thing you can do to participate is to make a pledge to look after your oral health. Here are some other ways to participate:
Organize a toothbrush drive in your community.
Schedule your routine dental exam.
Learn how your oral health impacts your overall health.
Thank your dental team for helping you maintain good oral health.
Don’t forget to spread awareness for this day on social media with
WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY HISTORY
The FDI World Dental Federation launched World Oral Health Day in 2007. The day was originally celebrated on September 12th, which is the birthdate of FDI founder, Dr. Charles Godon. In 2013, to avoid conflict with the FDI World Dental Congress in September, the date was changed to March 20th. The date reflects the importance of the number 20 when it comes to oral health. Seniors should have 20 natural teeth at the end of their life to be considered healthy. Also, children should possess 20 baby teeth.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS – March 20
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS
Every year on March 20th, the International Day of Happiness promotes the idea that part of humanity’s progress should include how to increase happiness and well-being
1. The quality of their relationships.
2. Having a job or hobby that they love and that challenges them.
3. Helping others through volunteer work or random acts of kindness.
Having basic needs met can also induce happiness. However, having extra money does not necessarily make people happier.
When there are large numbers of happy people, it makes entire communities, and even entire countries, a happier place to live. Some of the happiest countries in the world include Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland. Apparently, living in colder climates is not an indicator of happiness! Switzerland, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia also ranked in the top 10 for the happiest countries. The United States ranked 19th.
HOW TO OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS
On this day, people all around the world are encouraged to create more happiness in the world around them. Think about what you can do to create more happiness. Maybe you can volunteer or help someone in need. Or maybe you need to focus on becoming a happier person. This might involve improving the quality of your relationships. It might also be about finding a more fulfilling job. Whatever you do on this day, be sure to spread the happiness on social media with #InternationalDayOfHappiness.

#InternationalDayOfHappiness or #DayOfHappiness
For far too long, progress in the world has been all about the economy. But more people are realizing that happiness is also an essential part of progress. Happiness is defined as the state of being happy. When someone is happy, they are delighted or glad. People might differ in what makes them happy. Some delight in a good cup of coffee. Others are glad when their dog greets them at the door.
According to research, three things make people happy:
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS HISTORY
In 2011, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution that recognized happiness as a fundamental human goal. The resolution called for a more inclusive and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes happiness. In 2012, the first-ever UN Conference on Happiness took place. During this conference, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution stating International Happiness Day would be celebrated every year on March 20th. WORLD FLOUR DAY
On March 20th, World Flour Day recognizes the importance of flour in our daily diets and our health. In every part of the world, products made from flour provide daily sustenance for billions of people.
World Flour Day
Flour is the main ingredient in delicious foods like pasta, cakes, pastries, bread, and biscuits. For thousands of years, humans have consumed grains ground into flour. Ancient humans gathered the oat kernels growing wild around them. Using a stone tool much like a pestle, they crushed the kernels into coarse flour.
Today, we continue to enjoy many varieties of domesticated grains. In the Northern Hemisphere, many farms prepare to plant these grain crops around March 20th. The earth is warming and ready to grow. In the Southern Hemisphere, autumn has arrived. The grains have ripened, and harvest is beginning.
The day honors the farmers and millers, shippers and truckers, processors and bakers who bring the white gold to our tables. It’s a day for gratitude, and one of hope as the seeds are sown, and harvests are reaped.
HOW TO OBSERVE WORLD FLOUR DAY
Invite a friend for a meal made with flour. A whole-grain sandwich or a sweet pastry sounds delicious.
Don an apron and bake up some cookies; deliver them to your favorite farmer or co-worker.

INTERNATIONAL READ TO ME DAY – March 19
INTERNATIONAL READ TO ME DAY
Every year on March 19th, children are encouraged to remind the adults in their life to read to them. The day also empowers children to participate in the conversation about their own literacy.
#InternationalReadToMeDay
You have probably heard that it takes a village to raise a child. On International Read to Me Day, anyone in a child’s village are encouraged to read to them. This could be a parent, grandparent, teacher, librarian, mentor, older sibling, or a friend of the family. It doesn’t matter who does the reading. All that matters is that anyone in the child’s village reads to them on a regular basis.
Children who are read to 3 to 4 times a week have reading ages that are six months ahead of those who only get read to once or twice a week. Reading to children every day nearly doubles their progress. This means these children are one year ahead of other children. When children are read to, or they read themselves, it can help them perform well on reading tests.
Other benefits of reading to children include:
teaching children about the world around them
helping improve their vocabulary and language skills
developing their imagination
helping them develop empathy
quality time for adults and children to spend together
Children love being read to, so why not enjoy this activity with them as often as possible? They will greatly benefit from it if you do.
HOW TO OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL READ TO ME DAY
Schools, libraries, and communities all around the world take part in this day. The best way to take part is to read a book to a child. If you don’t have children of your own, find a child in your life and spend time reading to them. You could even read to a group of children.
If you’re looking for book ideas, here are some classics for children of all ages:
Charlotte’s Web by E.B White
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne
The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams
Oh, the Places You’ll Go! By Dr. Seuss
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Other ways to participate including going to your local library or bookstore for story hour. You could also organize a book drive in your community. This is one day that you can #CelebrateEveryDay. Don’t forget to share this day on social media with #InternationalReadToMeDay.

Every year on March 19th, International Client’s Day provides an opportunity for company owners and managers to celebrate their clients. It’s also a day to recognize the importance of retaining loyal clients.
Did you know that there are over 213 million companies in the world? While the types of companies are quite diverse, they have one thing in common. Most of these companies depend upon clients and customers in order to succeed. The best-run companies treat their clients well. They do this by:
Listening to their clients.
Apologizing when something goes wrong.
Staying calm during difficult situations.
Identifying and anticipating their client’s needs.
Suggesting solutions and providing remedies to problems.
Being available and providing excellent customer service.
Companies that do all of these things well are treating their clients with the dignity and respect they deserve. These companies are also retaining customers, which is very important in such a competitive market.
Customer loyalty is also important because it helps create new customers. In fact, 68 percent of new customers come from current customers. It’s also much easier to sell services to an existing customer. The probability of selling to an existing customer is up to 70 percent, compared to only 5 to 20 percent for new customers. One more reason it’s important to retain clients is they are 50 percent more likely to buy new products.
For all of these reasons, it’s of utmost importance for company owners and managers to recognize and celebrate their clients.

WORLD CONTACT DAY – March 15
WORLD CONTACT DAY
Every year on March 15th, people around the globe unite on World Contact to make contact with extra-terrestrial (ET) life and alien civilizations.
Nearly half of all human beings believe that intelligent alien civilization exists. This is according to a recent survey conducted in 24 different countries. More than 60 percent believe that there is some life form on other planets. Those who believe other life forms exist think we should try to make contact with them.
If you are one who doesn’t believe in aliens, maybe these things will help you change your mind:
The U.S. government takes UFOs seriously.
Scientists think that certain planets are habitable.
Many people claim to have personal contact with aliens and have been able to draw pictures describing their experiences.
Many people have reported UFO sightings and have taken pictures to prove it.
There are a lot of things that happen in the sky that are simply unexplainable.
If aliens really do exist, why haven’t we made contact with them? There are several theories. Some believe aliens are either sleeping, hiding, or still evolving. Others think that humans haven’t spent enough time looking. Maybe aliens are already here, and we just haven’t figured it out yet.
HOW TO OBSERVE #World Contact Day
Many UFO groups throughout the world hold special events on this day. People are encouraged to make contact with ET life. They can try to do this through meditation, prayer, thought, or consciousness. Besides attempting to make contact, here are some other fun ways to participate:
Watch your favorite alien movie. If you don’t have one, here are some good choices: Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Men in Black, Alien, Arrival, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and E.T. the Extra-terrestrial.
Binge-watch X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Stargate SG-1, or one of the many Star Trek series.
Think about how our world would change if we made contact with ET life.
Discuss with others whether or not there is life on other planets.
Listen to the Carpenter’s song Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft (which has become the recognized anthem for this day). You can also watch the video.

WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY – March 15
WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY
Every year on March 15th, World Consumer Rights Day raises global awareness about the rights and needs of consumers. It’s also a day to demand that the rights of consumers are respected and protected.
If you purchase goods and services for personal use, you are a consumer. There is a good chance that as a consumer, you have probably had a bad experience. Maybe you bought a new product that broke within months of buying it. Or, maybe you hired someone to do a service but they failed to meet your needs.
Most companies try to avoid negative consumer experiences, as it reflects poorly on their business. They know they will also lose customers as a result. In most countries, there are laws that help to protect the rights of consumers. These companies must abide by these laws.
Examples of consumer rights include the right to:
have access to basic goods and services necessary for survival
protect themselves from hazardous products or services
information about products and services
choose from a variety of quality products and services
voice a complaint about a product or service
consumer education and representation
Many countries have variations of these rights. But most every developed country agrees that all consumers have a right to safety, information, choice, and the right to be heard.
HOW TO OBSERVE #WorldConsumerRightsDay
Each year on this day, the membership organization for consumer groups around the world, Consumers International, hosts a variety of events. These events champion the rights of consumers and are held in more than 100 countries.
To participate:
Think about a time when your consumer rights were violated and what you did about it.
Discuss with others what our world would be like if consumers did not have rights.
Educate yourself on the consumer rights that you have.
Spread awareness for this day on social media with #WorldConsumerRightsDay.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS – March 14
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS
Every year on March 14th, people around the world gather together to celebrate the importance of mathematics and everything it’s used for.
Mathematics is defined as the study of such topics as quantity, structure, space, and change. This definition makes it sound like you have to be a rocket scientist to do math. But whether you realize it or not, you probably use mathematics daily. Do you balance your checkbook? When you have to drive somewhere, do you estimate out how much time it will take to arrive? Do you count calories? Have you ever measured ingredients when you’re cooking? Do you do your own taxes? If you do any of these things, you’re using math!
Besides personal use, many professions use mathematics. In fact, 94% of all workers use some sort of math in their jobs. About 68% of these people use fractions, decimals, and percentages. Some professions that use math daily include:
Construction manager
Computer programmer
Registered Nurse
Landscape Designer
Electrician
Plumber
Diesel mechanic
Carpenter
Optician
Photographer
Pharmacy technician
No matter what profession students in high school and college go into, they are encouraged to study mathematics. Math is often used to solve world-real problems. Math also provides a solid foundation for advanced studies in other fields. It really does seem to be everywhere.
HOW TO OBSERVE #DayOfMathematics
Several regional and international organizations take part in this day. These organizations include The Committee for Women in Mathematics of IMU (CWM), the African Mathematical Union (AMU), and the International Science Council (ISC). On this day, schools, museums, libraries, and other organizations participate in math contests and other math-oriented activities.
Keep track of how often you use mathematics throughout the day.
Study famous mathematicians, including Archimedes, Isaac Newton, James Maxwell, Alan Turing, and Radia Perlman.
Help a student with their math homework.
Discuss with others how much they use mathematics in their profession.
Watch a math movie based on real-life events like Stand and Deliver, Pi, Good Will Hunting, The Imitation Game, and A Beautiful Mind.
Sharing this day on social media is as easy as 1,2,3. Just use #InternationalDayOfMathematics or #IDM.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS HISTORY
On November 26th, 2019, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed March 14th as the International Day of Mathematics. The executive Council of UNESCO chose the date of March 14th because they wanted to expand Pi Day to include the whole spectrum of mathematics. The theme of the inaugural International Day of Mathematics, held in 2020, was “Mathematics Is Everywhere.” The International Mathematical Union (IMU) coordinates the day.

WORLD PLUMBING DAY – March 11
WORLD PLUMBING DAY
Every year on March 11th, World Plumbing Day highlights the important role of plumbing in protecting public health.
What do you think of when you see the word plumbing? Chances are, you think about running water, the sewer system, and the many pipes that make it all work. Now imagine a world without these things. How inconvenient would your life be without immediate access to hot or cold water? What if you had to leave the comfort of your home to go to the bathroom in an outhouse? What if your community did not have a system of pipes that made these things possible?
You might think that every homeowner in developed countries has access to running water and a sewer system. Even in developed countries, however, a lack of plumbing is a reality that some people live with every day. In the United States, two million people do not have access to basic indoor plumbing. It’s not just those living in poverty who don’t have indoor plumbing or running water. In some states, like Alaska, the Dakotas, and Maine, there are entire communities that don’t have complete plumbing systems.
Where there’s a need
It’s much worse in undeveloped countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 2.5 billion citizens throughout the world don’t have access to any sanitation facility. This includes 818 million people in India and 607 million people in China. There are other countries as well that have large populations with inadequate plumbing. These countries include:
Nigeria
Brazil
Indonesia
Bangladesh
Pakistan
Nepal
Vietnam
Philippines
You may think that a lack of plumbing is a matter of inconvenience. However, it is much more than that. Not having access to plumbing is a significant health issue. You have probably never thought that plumbing saves lives, but it really does. Without proper plumbing systems in place, many people throughout the world are susceptible to diseases. Children are especially vulnerable. About 700,000 children die each year from diarrhea. This condition is usually caused by improper sanitation and unsafe drinking water.
HOW TO OBSERVE #World Plumbing Day
Plumbing organizations gather together on this day to network with other plumbers and keep up with changes in the industry. Those in the plumbing profession attend seminars and workshops to learn what they can do to improve access to running water and safe sanitation. To participate:
Thank your local plumber for all the work they do.
Think about what your life would be like without plumbing.
Donate to an organization, such as Plumbers without Borders or The Water Project.
Make an appointment to have your plumbing system inspected.
Spread awareness for this day on social media with #WorldPlumbingDay
