A Lot Of Hungry Robins
It has been a hard winter for the local birds here in Oklahoma. One day at work I looked outside and saw a flock of at least 50 Robins scavenging for food around the Holly bushes.
The familiar robin has a grayish-brown back, white throat and orangish-red (males) to reddish-orange (females) chest and belly. Each eye is incompletely surrounded by a partial white eye ring. In adult males, the head color is noticeably darker than the back.
Robins are found statewide in Oklahoma, year-round. These birds occupy a wide range of habitats and can be found in both urban and natural areas. They are especially attracted to fruit-producing trees and shrubs and wooded areas.
American robins nest in a variety of locations including trees, gutters, and even on top of outdoor light fixtures. Three to five blue eggs are incubated for about two weeks; chicks leave the nest about two weeks after hatching. Robins feed primarily on insects, earthworms and fruit.
Robins may be alone or in flocks of 50 or more birds. They tend to feed within 10 feet of the ground or on the ground.

Another busy Hummingbird feeder
Here's another video of a Hummingbird feeder that was filmed last spring. We always have a lot of them in this part of Oklahoma.
Three species of hummingbirds are regularly found in Oklahoma. Two species, the Ruby-throated and the Black-chinned, nest in Oklahoma and are found here during the summer months. The third species, the Rufous Hummingbird, does not nest in Oklahoma, but migrates through the state during the spring and fall.
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is the most common and widespread species. It is found across the eastern 3/4 of Oklahoma and is the only species found in the eastern half of the state. The Black-chinned Hummingbird is found in the western quarter of the state and is most common in the southwestern corner. It is the most common hummingbird around the cities of Lawton and Altus, and it has expanded its range eastward over the past three decades and is now common as far east as Chickasha.
Ruby-throated and Black-chinned Hummingbirds return to Oklahoma in early spring – usually between the 10th and 20th of April. They remain here through the summer and migrate back south during September. Like many migratory land birds, the male hummingbirds typically return one to two weeks before the females in the spring and migrate south in mid-September about two weeks before the females and juvenile birds. Contrary to popular myth, hummingbird migration is not triggered by changes in their food supply but by changes in day length. In the fall, they migrate southward in September regardless of whether or not there is an abundance of flowers and/or hummingbird feeders.

Skye, Scout, and the Snake
Scout has a favorite toy. It's a long snake looking toy. In this video Skye decides that she wants to play along. This is unusual for Skye since she is more of a cuddler than anything else as you may have seen in previous videos of her.

These are some hungry puppies
The hungry little Boxer puppies are just 7 days old and are extremely hungry. They were bred at JRP Kennels and are the cutest little puppies.
The Boxer is a medium to large, short-haired breed of dog, developed in Germany. The coat is smooth and tight-fitting; colors are fawn, brindled, or white, with or without white markings.
Boxer dogs were originally bred to be medium-size guard dogs.Today, although they are a part of the AKC’sWorking Group, Boxers mostly find homes as loving family companions. That said, they still retain their high energy levels and need plenty of exercise.
Square-jawed and muscular, this breed is the George Clooney of the dog world–a looker with a sense of humor and an underlying sweetness. They adore their families and will also appreciate consistent training that doesn’t rely on harsh reprimands.

I Want Some Lovin'
Most of you have seen Skye before. She's half Labrador Retriever and half Pitt Bull. She is the most loving dog that I have ever known and always needs to be right next to my daughter.
This clip shows the length of what she will do if my daughter is working on something and doesn't want Skye getting on her lap. As you can see Skye still wants to lay on her.

Time for a New Nest
The Pileated Woodpecker is a big, dashing bird with a flaming crest, the largest woodpecker in North America (except the Ivory-bill, which is almost certainly extinct). Excavating deep into rotten wood to get at the nests of carpenter ants, the Pileated leaves characteristic rectangular holes in dead trees. This species became rare in eastern North America with clearing of forests in centuries past, but has gradually increased in numbers again since about the beginning of the 20th century. Where unmolested, it even lives in parks and woodlots around the edges of large cities.
I am very excited to see this beautiful bird coming back from being rarely seen to becoming a more common sight again.

Hurricane Prep
I used to contract out to various companies working recovery on communication lines after major disasters. Seeing all of these vehicles staging before Hurricane Dorian brought back a lot of memories.
Hurricane Dorian was an extremely powerful and devastating Category 5 Atlantic hurricane, which became the most intense tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas, and is also regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country's recorded history.
Although that hurricane decimated the Bahamas, it made a last minute turn to the north saving the state billions of dollars in damage and a lot of lives.

Teaching Georgia to Retrieve
Georgia is a yellow Labrador Retriever owned by a freind of mine. Here is a video of her early retrieving lessons. She will grow up to be agreat duck hunting partner.
The Labrador Retriever, often abbreviated to Labrador, is a breed of retriever-gun dog from the United Kingdom that was developed from imported Canadian fishing dogs. The Labrador is one of the most popular dog breeds in a number of countries in the world, particularly in the Western world.
The sweet-faced, lovable Labrador Retriever is America’s most popular dog breed. Labs are friendly, outgoing, and high-spirited companions who have more than enough affection to go around for a family looking for a medium-to-large dog.

The Bird Whisperer
I've got a friend that has birds eating right out her hand.
They live in a wooded area that is full of local birds. All she needs to do is walk out back with bird seed in her hand and they come running. Or in this case they come flying. It's interesting how they all take turns in this video. That doesn't always happen.
I gave it a try. Apparently they don't like me.

Hummingbirds Swarming
Nothing is more entertaining than watching multiple hummingbirds trying to get their sugar fix all at the same time.
A hummingbird can flap their wings 70 times per second. That's more than 4,000 times per minute. That allows them to hover over flowers, or in this case over the feeders that I have set up throughout the spring and summer.
When there are this many trying to eat at the same time however, they can become a little aggressive. That is why I always hang multiple feeders throughout the yard. But nothing is more exciting than watching a lot of hummingbirds gather together in the morning around a couple of them lined up.

Take a Kid Fishing
Take a kid fishing and the memories will last forever.
I can still remember the first time I went fishing and that was well over 50 years ago. My Grandfather took me and my Brother to a river that ran along the side of my Uncle's property. It is one of my greatest memories.

Happiness at Starbucks isn’t limited to just Frappuccinos, Refreshers and Espresso for you. Bring in your furry best friend for a Puppuccino!
While our dog friendly secret menu consists of just one item, it is a very popular and beloved one, by both us and our furry friends! A fan favorite, a cup of whipped cream will be served in an espresso or sample size cold beverage cup for your pup.
You can either ask for a Puppuccino by name, or simply ask for some whipped cream in a cup for your pooch. It’s one of the most popular Starbucks Secret Menu items and baristas are always happy to oblige.

Baby Mockingbirds
Last spring we were fortunate to have mockingbirds nest in our honeysuckles. It was a lot of fun watching them grow up, but I don't care to have them back.
Mockingbirds are very protective of their nests. Although the babies were grown and ready to leave the nest in a couple of weeks, the adults would dive bomb anyone in the back yard. They made life miserable for our dogs.

No Chance of Snow
Just before I left for my PT appointment the weatherman was saying that would not get any snow in our area, just rain. I walked out of my appointment and saw this mess. Well, if this isn't snow, then what is this white stuff making a mess and making the roads slick?
Best job in the world. You can be wrong 90% of the time and still get paid.
