Two Owlets and One Pip 🐥🐥🐣 04/12/23 20:47
We now can see the third Pip happening when Ellie takes her break. The Egg Tooth of the hatching owlet is also showing through the hole of the shell which is fairly large and the owlet inside can barely be seen moving. The oldest owlet is getting in some wing stretches, while the second owlet is making those neck muscles stronger by repeatedly lifting its head.

Angel's Story (from cam link above):
Angel is a very rare Leucistic Red-Tailed Hawk. 2 years ago, Angel & Mohawk (no longer around) raised 3 chicks and they fledged successfully. Last year Angel chose a new mate and he was still a subadult. Since the new male was not fully mature, they did not have eggs last year. This year he has fully matured and their bond seems strong. Will post a view soon about the history of Angel and how we came to put in this very unique and rare camera.

Feeding The Owlets 🐥🐥 04/10/23 22:58
Somebody is very hungry and mom wastes no time shredding a meal for her hungry owlet. We only see her feed the oldest one, as the younger owlet is newly hatched, already had a meal earlier, and is fast asleep. We can see how fast the first owlet has matured already. Holding its head up for longer periods of time and grabbing the prey from mom's beak. They grow up so fast, sometimes too fast for us, but necessary for survival.

Ellie and Owlet Close Up 🐥 04/08/23 20:41
Ellie has been watching for Albert when she seems to spot him off-cam and leaves to take her break. The owlet gives us a peep and a few bobblehead moments when some Geese pass over the nest. After all that activity, the owlet is tuckered out and falls asleep on its unhatched siblings. Ellie returns to the nest after 12 minutes to wait for Albert to bring prey to the nest. Then she settles back down over her owlet and eggs.

No Hatch Yet, Still a Pip 🥚🥚🥚 04/07/23 22:04
**Just an observation viewing the video frame by frame. If anyone sees something different, please let me know. 😊
Ellie has been waiting for Albert to bring prey so she can take her break. Finally, he arrives off-cam and Ellie leaves to meet him. When she leaves, her talons roll the pipped egg, placing the hole in the egg at the top. The third egg is barely seen when a feather blew from her wings and is hidden under the grass. The roundness of the egg can be seen through the feather. The chirping heard is Ellie. Most likely when she retrieved the prey from Albert. The same chirping she did when Albert brought her the bird (large prey) for dinner a few days ago. (Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5PGIzfW2o0&t=89s ) Plus the chirping sound is by the speaker as other muffled noises are also heard. These are the same sounds you hear whenever they land or move on the branch out of cam range. When Ellie returns, she taps the pipped egg with her beak. There are still 2 rodents in the nest untouched as well. The pip can clearly be seen at the top of the egg, off to the right.
Left at 22:04 and Returned at 06:11.

Rolling Pipped/Egg Egg Tooth Showing 🐣 04/07/23 08:22
While Ellie is rolling her eggs, we get a quick glimpse at the pip on her egg. The hole has gotten larger compared to the last sighting. Directly above the hole in the egg is a bright white spot. Most likely this is the first sighting of the owlet's Egg Tooth. A hard tooth-like projection at the top and end of the beak. Used to cut through the membrane and break apart the shee so the owlet can hatch. It will fall off in about 7-14 days from hatching.

Ellie Shows Albert Affection 🦉 04/06/23 06:19
Albert flies in, bringing Ellie a rat to the nest for breakfast. Instead of swallowing it, she puts it in the pantry. As Albert is still standing there hooting, she reaches up and preens a few feathers on his cheek, showing her appreciation for the meal. Albert hoots once again then he departs from the nest and goes up onto the branch. No pip at this time but Ellie knows it's very close and had been storing some food, then leaving with it up onto the branch during the night. Making sure fresh prey would be available to the hatchling when it is needed.

"Daddy Is Here" 🥚🥚🥚 04/03/23 23:03
Ellie leaves to take another break. While she is gone, Albert shows up at the nest with grunts and hoots. He walks over to his eggs and with his call, greets them as if to say, "It's ok little ones, Mom will be back soon, Daddy is here". He has been a very attentive mate and enjoys talking to his soon-to-be owlets often. By now, one of them should be chirping inside the egg, so maybe this is his way of coaxing the owlet out of its shell. Most birds talk to their eggs so when the babies are hatched, they are used to the sounds that will be around them and to help them recognize their parent's calls.

Albert Brings Dinner 🦉 04/03/23 21:50
Ellie starts with her happy grunts to see Albert. Who is delivering dinner right on schedule. Ellie is so excited that she continues her grunts the whole time she is swallowing her dinner. Albert makes sure she is safe while she's eating as he always stays and guards her while her defenses are down as she eats her meal, then he departs from the nest, back up the branch.

Location- Tennessee (exact location cannot be given for her safety)
Angel - Female, 7+ years of age, Leucistic (White)
Unnamed Mate- Male, 3+ years of age, Normal Coloration
Nest: 40 feet tall, 3 feet long x 1.5 feet wide, human-reinforced nest
Cams: Above the nest is a tiny pinhole cam so we don't intrude into the small nest, this cam does not have IR (night vision). We have a long-range PTZ cam in a distant tree, with IR and Mic.

Albert Greets His Eggs 🥚🥚🥚 03/31/23 20:07
Ellie leaves to take her break. While she is gone, Albert arrives with grunts and hoots to the nest. He hops down to the nest, walks over to his eggs and while looking directly down at them, greets them with his call. Then he pecks at the nest for a second and quietly walks back up onto the branch. Ellie arrives shortly after him to resume incubating the eggs.

Tom Delivers a Shrew 🌲 03/31/23 05:39
Angel is incubating her eggs when Tom briefly stops by to deliver a Shrew to her. The transfer goes smoothly this time then leaves the nest once again. Shrews are mole-like in appearance except the snout is longer, and unlike a Mole's short tail, a Shrew has a longer tail. Similar to a mouse's tail, but thicker. A Shrew also lives above ground, unlike the Mole which lives underground.
