[Verse 1]
Build an inner door, drop and then explore
You smoke your head on straight, then drink your woes away
Some might not understand
Possession controls your head
[Chorus]
You recognize it, while some ignore it
Avoid the masses, you've got to belong to it
[Post-Chorus]
Belong to it
Belong to it
[Verse 2]
Your music is your friend?
But the roof above my head
So seriously I take the will that never breaks
Some might not understand
Possession beyond your hands
[Chorus]
You recognize it, while some ignore it
Avoid the masses, you've got to belong to it
[Chorus]
You recognize it, while some ignore it
Avoid the masses, you've got to belong to it
[Post-Chorus]
Belong to it
Belong to it
[Verse 3]
It's power and sin
And then you've got all the other habits
Whiskey and smoke
It's all a man could need
To plant the perfect seed
Disembody me - yeah
[Chorus]
You recognize it, while some ignore it
Avoid the masses, you've got to belong to it
[Outro]
Belong to it
Belong to it

Reinventing the Steel is the ninth and latest studio album by American heavy metal band Pantera, released on March 21, 2000[1] through East West Records. This was the last studio album Pantera released before their nineteen-year breakup from November 2003 to July 2022, and it is the band's final album to feature the Abbott brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, before their deaths in 2004 and 2018, respectively.
Reinventing the Steel was produced by the Abbott brothers in addition to Sterling Winfield, making it Pantera's first studio album since 1988's Power Metal not to be produced by Terry Date.
In Australia, a two-disc "Tour Edition" of the album was released. The first disc consists of the album proper while the second is an unofficial hits compilation.
The album was reissued in October 2020 with extra discs including a new mix by Date and unreleased tracks to honor the album's 20th anniversary.[2][3]
Unlike other Pantera releases, two B-sides were recorded during the Reinventing the Steel sessions, those being "Avoid the Light" and "Immortally Insane", found on the Dracula 2000 and Heavy Metal 2000, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre soundtracks, respectively.
Reinventing the Steel contains lyrics mostly about the band itself, as on "We'll Grind that Axe for a Long Time" (where the band members tell about how they have kept it "true" throughout the years, while many of their peers "sucked up for the fame") and "I'll Cast a Shadow" (about Pantera's influence on the genre). There are also songs about their fans, like "Goddamn Electric" and "You've Got to Belong to It". "Goddamn Electric" mentions Black Sabbath and Slayer, two of Pantera's main influences. The solo for "Goddamn Electric" was recorded by Kerry King in a bathroom after Slayer performed at Ozzfest in Dallas.[4] The band members dedicated Reinventing the Steel to their fans who they viewed as their "brothers and sisters".
The cover art is by Scott Caliva (1967–2003), a friend of Pantera lead singer Phil Anselmo. Caliva took the photo of a partygoer at Anselmo's house jumping through a bonfire clutching a bottle of Wild Turkey bourbon whiskey. The bottle is pixelated on the cover so the label would not be visible, to avoid copyright infringement.
Reinventing the Steel reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart, number 8 on the Top Canadian Albums chart, and number 5 on the Top Internet Albums chart. It held its position in the Billboard 200 for over 12 weeks. The album's fifth track, "Revolution Is My Name", reached number 28 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks.

[Intro]
Yeah!
[Verse 1]
There I was, laid out on a table
Screaming, sweatin', bare feet to the floor
In my life, I'd not soften
Things that cut and burn so often
But I sit, think of something
Scared to face the dying nothing
[Chorus]
See the cycle I've waited for
It ain't like that anymore
Yeah!
[Verse 2]
Where I go is when I feel I'm able
How I fight is why I'm feelin' sore
In my mind, not forgotten
Feel as though a tooth were rotten
Behind the smile, a tongue that's slipping
Buzzards cry when flesh is ripping
[Chorus]
See the cycle I've waited for
It ain't like that anymore, ah
Yeah!
[Verse 3]
Here I sit writing on the paper
Tryna think of words you can't ignore
In my eyes, what I'm lacking
Score at face, a ten for slacking
Sign the deal, set in motion
Smaller fish, so huge the ocean
[Chorus]
See the cycle I've waited for
It ain't like that anymore
See the cycle I've waited for
It ain't like that anymore

Facelift is the debut studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released by Columbia Records on August 21, 1990.[1] The tracks "We Die Young", "Man in the Box", "Sea of Sorrow" and "Bleed the Freak" were released as singles. "Man In The Box" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal in 1992.[5] Facelift became the first album from the grunge movement to be certified gold on September 11, 1991.[6][7] The album peaked at No. 42 on the Billboard 200 chart,[8] and has been certified triple-platinum by the RIAA for shipments of three million copies in the United States.[6]
Local promoter Randy Hauser became aware of Alice in Chains at a concert, and offered to pay for demo recordings. However, one day before the band was due to record at the Music Bank studio in Washington, police shut down the studio during the biggest marijuana raid in the state's history.[9] The final demo – dubbed The Treehouse Tapes – found its way to managers Kelly Curtis and Susan Silver, who also managed the Seattle-based Soundgarden. Curtis and Silver passed the demo to Columbia Records' A&R representative Nick Terzo, who set up an appointment with label president Don Ienner. Based on The Treehouse Tapes (sold by the band at shows), Ienner signed Alice in Chains to Columbia in 1989.[9]
Alice in Chains became a top priority for the label, who released the band's first official recording in July 1990: the promotional EP We Die Young. Its lead single and title song became a hit on metal radio. After its success, the label rushed Alice in Chains' debut album into production with producer Dave Jerden.[10] "I told Jerry Cantrell, ‘Metallica took Tony Iommi and sped him up. What you've done is you've slowed him down again,’" Jerden recalled. "He looked at me and said, ‘You got it.’ That's how I got the gig."[11]
Drummer Sean Kinney claims to have played this album with a broken hand:
I almost didn't play on the record - they started rehearsing with the drummer from Mother Love Bone, Greg Gilmore. I was sitting there playing with one hand, guiding him through it. Dave Jerden came in and they started to try to do it. He was like, 'Screw it - pull the plug. This is not going to be the same.' Luckily, we took a tiny bit of time off. I had that cast on for a while, and was like, 'I can't miss this.'
Facelift was recorded at London Bridge Studio in Seattle and at Capitol Studios in Hollywood from December 1989 to April 1990.[13] Footage from the Facelift sessions can be found on Alice in Chains' Music Bank: The Videos DVD.[14]

[Intro]
Yeah!
[Verse 1]
There's nothing special about it
It's either there when you're born or not
Gifted with talent or no big deal
Welcome to the death of a century, ugh!
[Chorus]
'Cause yesterday don't mean shit
What's over is over and nothing between
Yesterday don't mean shit
Because tomorrow's the day you have to face
No rewinding time!
Yesterday don't mean shit
Yesterday don't mean shit
[Verse 2]
Reliving old reviews is a useless tool of confusion
Don't hold your breath for the turn-around
Come into the world of endless odds!
[Chorus]
'Cause yesterday don't mean shit
What's over is over and nothing between
Yesterday don't mean shit
Because tomorrow's the day you have to face
No rewinding time!
Yesterday don't mean shit
Yesterday don't mean shit
[Bridge]
They'll tell you all about guilt
And in time you'll face the darkness
But darkness is a friend to you
Embrace and fly through the madness
[Verse 3]
Flying past God and wars and conflict
Oppression in you, oppression in you
Plowing through minds and paranoia
Oppression in you, the oppression's in you!
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
'Cause yesterday don't mean shit
What's over is over and nothing between
Yesterday don't mean shit
Because tomorrow's the day you have to face
No rewinding time!
Yesterday don't mean shit
Yesterday don't mean shit
[Outro]
Yesterday don't mean jack shit
Agh, agh, agh!
To protect you and I'll keep to myself
It can only be that way, yeah!

Ooh
[Verse 1]
I tried to love you, I thought I could
I tried to own you, I thought I would
I wanna peel the skin from your face
Before the real you lays to waste
[Chorus]
You told me I'm the only one
Sweet little angel, you should have run
Lying, crying, dying to leave
Innocence creates my hell
[Verse 2]
Cheated myself, still, you know more
It would be so easy with a whore
Try to understand me, little girl
My twisted passion to be your world
[Chorus]
Lost inside my sick head
I live for you but I'm not alive
Take my hands before I kill
I still love you, but I still burn
[Guitar Solo]
Ooh

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Love, hate, love
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Love, hate, love
Yeah
Love, hate, love
Ooh-oh

[Verse 1]
There is a part of me that's always sixteen
I've found the secret of eternal youth
Some get high on life or money, but there's an escape
Drop out of the race
[Chorus 1]
To walk through the world by oneself
You can't be protected
Your trust is in whiskey and weed and Black Sabbath
It's goddamn electric
[Bridge 1]
Don't waste your time, embrace it
And then you'll know yourself
The change in you is goddamn electric
[Verse 2]
The weight of the world has lifted and parted
My eyes roll blind to sights that distracted
Through tunnel-vision and dope-hair blinders
I'll cut a path and evoke my will
[Chorus 2]
To walk through the world by oneself
You can't be protected
Your trust is in whiskey and weed and Slayer
It's goddamn electric
[Bridge 2]
Don't fake your life - inhale it
And then you'll know yourself
The change in you is goddamn electric
[Bridge 1]
Don't waste your time, embrace it
And then you'll know yourself
The change in you is goddamn electric
Will focus the mind's eye
[Verse 3]
One hand on the bottle, the other a shaking fist
Rejuvenated, isolated, no pressure
From the outside, my sight's goddamn electric
And these eyes have seen a world
Goddamn electric system
[Bridge 1]
Don't waste your time, embrace it
And then you'll know yourself
The change in you is goddamn electric

Eliminate, the life decline
I've paid the masters with blood and hunger
And it's not for sale by any stretch
It's like religion without a Bible
And the Dragon lives inside my mouth
And it speaks in tongues, the word
[Chorus]
Hellbound - in Fort Worth, Texas
Hellbound - Fort Worth
[Verse 2]
Snakes, in Southern flames
To bring the thunder; the great decider
Would you believe in this or the ash?
I do believe it and it's taking over
Accept, accept, accept, accept
Accept, accept, accept, accept
[Chorus]
Hellbound - in Fort Worth, Texas
Hellbound - Fort Worth
[Verse 3]
Born to a world so young and proud
But over your head hangs a black cloud
Grow your hair and crawl inside yourself
Because there you cannot hide
Facing fears that you'll overcome and one
Of these years you know you've won
You've won, you've won
You've won, you've won
[Chorus]
Hellbound - in Fort Worth, Texas

[Intro]
Ooh
[Verse 1]
Turn around, you say
'Scuse the 'tude but I haven't eaten today
And my eyes are turning grey
"What's your name?"
[Chorus]
I can't remember
I can't remember
[Verse 2]
Bring me down, you try
Feel the pain and keep it all in 'til you die
Without eyes you cannot cry
"Who's to blame?"
[Chorus]
I can't remember
I can't
[Bridge]
Remember identity
The visions in my mind from screaming at me
And mama, mama, ooh
My angry brains of infancy
[Verse 3]
Knocked down but I have enough hate to breathe
Down your throat and steal your energy
You took everything but my will to be
Now the loss of your god won't make me bleed
[Outro]
I
I, I am alive

Thunder and lightning, the gods take revenge
Senseless destruction
Victims of fury are cowardly now
Running for safety
Stabbing the harlot to pay for her sins
Leaving the virgin
Suicide running as if it were free
Ripping and tearing
[Chorus]
Oh, through the mist and the madness
We're trying to get the message to you
Metal militia
Metal militia
Metal militia
[Verse 2]
Chained and shadowed to be left behind
Nine and one thousand
Metal militia for your sacrifice
Iron clad soldiers
Join or be conquered the law of the land
What will befall you
The metalization of your inner soul
Twisting and turning
[Chorus]
Oh, through the mist and the madness
We're trying to get the message to you

Kill 'Em All is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, released on July 25, 1983, through the independent label Megaforce Records. Metallica began by playing shows in local clubs in Los Angeles. They recorded several demos to gain attention from club owners and eventually relocated to San Francisco to secure the services of bassist Cliff Burton. The group's No Life 'til Leather demo tape (1982) was noticed by Megaforce label head Jon Zazula, who signed them and provided a budget of $15,000 for recording. The album was recorded in May with producer Paul Curcio at the Music America Studios in Rochester, New York. It was originally intended to be titled Metal Up Your Ass, with cover art featuring a hand clutching a dagger emerging from a toilet bowl. The band was asked to change the name because distributors feared that releasing an album with such an offensive title and artwork would diminish its chances of commercial success.
Metallica promoted the album on the two-month co-headlining Kill 'Em All for One tour with English heavy metal band Raven in the US. The album also generated two singles: "Whiplash" and "Jump in the Fire". Although the initial shipment was 15,000 copies in the US, the album sold 60,000 copies worldwide by the end of Metallica's Seven Dates of Hell European tour in 1984. The album did not enter the Billboard 200 until 1986, when it peaked at number 155, following Metallica's commercial success with its third studio album, Master of Puppets; the 1988 Elektra reissue peaked at number 120. Kill 'Em All was critically praised at the time of its release and has since been regarded as a groundbreaking album for thrash metal, because of its "precise musicianship, which fused new wave of British heavy metal riffs with hardcore punk tempos". It was also retrospectively placed on a few publications' best album lists. The album's musical approach and lyrics were markedly different from rock's mainstream of the early 1980s and inspired a number of bands who followed in a similar manner. It was certified 3× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1999 for shipping three million copies in the United States.
Metallica was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by drummer Lars Ulrich and by vocalist/rhythm guitarist James Hetfield. Before settling on a definitive lineup.

We're scanning the scene in the city tonight
We're looking for you, to start up a fight
There's an evil feeling in our brains
But it's nothing new, you know it drives us insane
[Pre-Chorus]
Running, on our way, hiding, you will pay
Dying, one thousand deaths
Running, on our way, hiding, you will pay
Dying, one thousand deaths
[Chorus]
Searching, seek and destroy
Searching, seek and destroy!
Searching, seek and destroy
Searching, seek and destroy
[Verse 2]
There is no escape and that's for sure
This is the end, we won't take any more
Say goodbye to the world you live in
You've always been taking and now you're giving
[Pre-Chorus]
Running, on our way, hiding, you will pay
Dying, one thousand deaths

[Verse 1]
Mind of destructive taste
I choose to stroll amongst the waste
That was your heart lost in the dark
Call off the chase
Walls of thought, strong and high
As my castle crumbles with time
I think of you, oh, yes I do
Such a crime
[Pre-Chorus]
You opened fire and your mark was true
You opened fire
Aim my smiling skull at you
You opened fire
[Chorus]
I live tomorrow
You, I'll not follow
As you wallow
In a sea of sorrow
[Verse 2]
Lines cut across my face
Why you laugh at my disgrace, I'll never know
How far to go to reach that place
[Pre Chorus]
You opened fire and your mark was true
You opened fire
Aim my smiling skull at you
You opened fire
[Chorus]
I live tomorrow
You, I'll not follow
As you wallow
In a sea of sorrow
[Outro]
I live tomorrow, you do not follow
As you wallow in a sea of sorrow
I live tomorrow, you do not follow

Feed my eyes
(Can you sew them shut?)
Jesus Christ
(Deny your maker)
He who tries
(Will be wasted)
Feed my eyes
(Now you've sewn them) Shut
[Guitar Solo: Jerry Cantrell]
[Chorus: Layne Staley & Jerry Cantrell]
Feed my eyes
(Can you sew them shut?)
Jesus Christ
(Deny your maker)
He who tries
(Will be wasted)
Oh, feed my eyes
(Now you've sewn them) Shut

I had that cast on for a while, and was like, 'I can't miss this.' I cut my cast off in the studio and kept a bucket of ice by the drum set. Kept my hand iced down and played with a broken hand. I tried not to do that again - your first big break, and you fuck it up.[12]
Facelift was recorded at London Bridge Studio in Seattle and at Capitol Studios in Hollywood from December 1989 to April 1990.[13] Footage from the Facelift sessions can be found on Alice in Chains' Music Bank: The Videos DVD.[14]

Scary's on the wall
Scary's on his way
[Verse 1]
Watch where you spit
I'd advise you wait until it's over
Then you got hit
And you should've known better
[Chorus]
And we die young
Faster we run
[Verse 2]
Down, down, down you're rolling
Watch the blood float in the muddy sewer
Take another hit
And bury your brother
[Chorus]
And we die young
Faster we run

Bullets seek the place to bend you over

Sound starts ripping through your ears
The deafening sound of metal nears
Bodies waiting for his whips
The taste of leather on your lips
[Chorus]
Hear the cry of war, louder than before
With his sword in hand to control the land
Crushing metal strikes on this frightening night
Fall on to your knees for the phantom lord
[Verse 2]
Victims falling under chains
You hear them crying dying pains
The fist of terrors breaking through
Now there's nothing you can do
[Chorus]
Hear the cry of war, louder than before
With his sword in hand to control the land
Crushing metal strikes on this frightening night
Fall on to your knees for the phantom lord
[Guitar Solo]
[Interlude]
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
The leathered armies have prevailed
The phantom lord has never failed
Smoke is lifting from the ground
The rising volume metal sound
[Chorus]
Hear the cry of war, louder than before
With his sword in hand to control the land
Crushing metal strikes on this frightening night
Fall on to your knees for the phantom lord
[Outro]
Fall to your knees
And bow to the phantom lord!

[Verse 1]
What's left inside him?
Don't he remember us?
Can't he believe me?
We seemed like brothers
Talked for hours last month
About what we wanna be
I sit now with his hand in mine
But I know he can't feel
[Hook]
No one knows
What's done is done
It's as if he were dead
[Verse 2]
I'm close with his mother
And she cries endlessly
Lord how we miss him
At least what's remembered
It's so important to make best friends in life
But it's hard when my friend sits with blank expressions
[Hook]
No one knows
What's done is done
It's as if he were dead
[Chorus]
He as hollow as I alone now
He as hollow as I alone now
He as hollow as I alone now
He as hollow as I alone now
[Verse 3]
He as hollow as I alone
A shell of my friend
Just flesh and bone
There's no soul
He sees no love
I shake my fists at skies above
Mad
At God
Mad

Vulgar Display of Power is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Pantera. Released on February 25, 1992 through Atco Records, it was the band's second collaboration with producer Terry Date, after having previously worked with him on their breakthrough album Cowboys from Hell (1990).
The album was well received by both critics and fans, and is Pantera's highest selling album to date and would eventually be certified double platinum.[5] It is often considered one of the most influential heavy metal albums of the 1990s.[6] In 2017, Rolling Stone ranked Vulgar Display of Power 10th on their list of 'The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time'.[7] Several of its tracks have become among the band's best known, such as "Mouth for War", "A New Level", "Walk", "Fucking Hostile", and "This Love".
The band's 1990 major label debut, Cowboys from Hell,[8] demonstrated a change in their musical direction, from their 1980s material influenced by hard rock or glam metal bands like Van Halen and Kiss[9][10] to a new similarity to bands like Slayer, Metallica and Black Sabbath.[9][11]
In 1991, Pantera returned to Pantego Sound Studio to record their second release under Atco, Vulgar Display of Power.[12][13] The album was produced by Terry Date, who specializes in the rock and metal genres and had worked with the band on Cowboys from Hell. Date also went on to produce the band's following two albums, Far Beyond Driven (1994) and The Great Southern Trendkill (1996).[12][13] Before Date came in to work on the album, the band had demoed three tracks, "A New Level", "Regular People (Conceit)" and "No Good (Attack the Radical)".[12] The rest of the songs were written in the studio with little preproduction and demoing.[12]
After being in the studio for two months, Pantera were invited to open for Metallica and AC/DC at the 1991 Monsters of Rock free concert in Moscow, Russia's[12] Tushino airfield on September 28, 1991.[14][15] The band then returned to the studio to continue work on the album.[16] They travelled to New York City to master the album at Masterdisk.[17] Although guitarist Darrell Abbott was credited on the album with nickname "Diamond Darrell", during the recording of the album he had dropped that nickname and assumed "Dimebag Darrell", and bassist Rex Brown dropped the pseudonym "Rexx Rocker".[18]

Make it ring, make it bleed, make it really sore

Heads are bobbing all around, it's hot as hell tonight

Metallica was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by drummer Lars Ulrich and by vocalist/rhythm guitarist James Hetfield. Before settling on a definitive lineup, Metal Blade Records owner Brian Slagel asked Metallica to record a song for the first edition of his Metal Massacre compilation.

[Verse 1]
Full of grief I scream at the wind
Thought I heard the words of others
Imprison myself and stay in a shell
I won't let you in to have a story to tell
[Pre-Chorus 1]
Things tend to drag me down
Don't understand so they hate me now
[Chorus]
My fear grips the will of stone
My grip fears I'll die alone
[Verse 2]
I promised myself somewhere in teenage life
I'd never submit to the ones I will not be like
Live in a hole but stay close to my kind
'Cause they understand what burns in my mind
[Pre-Chorus 2]
I still feel incomplete
Friends are few and far between
[Chorus]
My fear grips the will of stone
My grip fears I'll die alone
[Solo]
[Chorus]
My fear grips the will of stone
My grip fears I'll die alone
[Outro]

[Verse 1]
Down in the depths of my fiery home
The summons bell will chime
Tempting you and all the Earth
To join our sinful kind
There is a job to be done and I'm the one
You people make me do it
Now it's time for your fate and I won't hesitate
To pull you down into this pit
[Chorus]
So come on
Jump in the fire
So come on
Jump in the fire
[Verse 2]
With hell in my eyes and with death in my veins
The end is closing in
Feeding on the minds of man
And from their souls within
My disciples all shout to search you out
And they always shall obey
Follow me now, my child, not the meek or the mild
But do just as I say
[Chorus]
So come on
Jump in the fire
So come on
Jump in the fire
[Instrumental Break]
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
Jump by your will or be taken by force
I'll get you either way
Trying to keep the hellfire lit
I'm stalking you as prey
Living your life with me, I am you, you see
There is part of me in everyone
So reach down grab my hand, walk with me through the land
Come home where you belong

[Verse 1]
Living and dying, laughing and crying
Once you have seen it, you'll never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it's heavy, it's dirty and mean
[Chorus]
Motorbreath, it's how I live my life
I can't take it any other way
Motorbreath, the sign of living fast
It is going to take your breath away
[Verse 2]
Don't stop for nothing, it's full speed or nothing
I am taking down you know whatever is in my way
Getting your kicks as you are shooting the line
Sending the shivers up and down my spine
[Chorus]
Motorbreath, it's how I live my life
I can't take it any other way
Motorbreath, the sign of living fast
It is going to take your breath away
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
Those people who tell you not to take chances
They are all missing on what life's about
You only live once, so take hold of the chance
Don't end up like others, the same song and dance
[Chorus]
Motorbreath, it's how I live my life
I can't take it any other way
Motorbreath, the sign of living fast
It is going to take your breath away

[Verse 1]
By the last breath of the fourth winds blow
Better raise your ears
The sound of hooves knock at your door
Lock up your wife and children now
It's time to wield the blade
For now you've got some company
[Chorus]
The horsemen are drawing nearer
On the leather steeds they ride
They've come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the four horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die
Aw yeah, yeah!
[Verse 2]
You've been dying since the day you were born
You know it's all been planned
The quartet of deliverance rides
A sinner once a sinner twice
No need for confession now
'Cause now you have got the fight of your life
[Chorus]
The horsemen are drawing nearer
On the leather steeds they ride
They've come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the four horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die
Aw yeah, yeah!
[Instrumental Break]
[Bridge]
Time! Has taken its toll on you
The lines that crack your face
Famine! Your body, it has torn through
Withered in every place
Pestilence! For what you've had to endure
And what you have put others through
Death! Deliverance for you for sure
