Transcript:
Hey, guys. We started 8:00 this morning and it's like 1230 now. That is where I used to lose a lot of time when I did. Estimating is the time to go get materials and set up. So like this morning, we came and aired up tires and checked fluids and loaded scaffold and saw horses and ladders and walk boards, made sure we had all the screws we needed.
And then we went to the place to get the metal. We're going to put a roof between here, this carport and that mobile home. And so in order to do that span, I'm using two by tens. They literally, can have a dance floor up there when we get through and so away all this time to get here to the job, pick up wood at Lowes. Pick up the metal at metal central.
All that took four and a half hours. So that is where I use to lose a lot of time because I can figure out how much time it took me to do something. After a while. But I would forget about the time to go get the materials. So here we are, four and a half hours into the job and we're going to if you look up there, you'll see the one bys that we put a metal roof on this house and we're going to have to make sure that our two bys are up to the bottom of those one bys so that our metal can go over the top and underneath that metal.
So and then we're going to bolt 2x10s to this. because the only so here we go.
I did not show you all the stuff like I wanted to because I thought for sure we're going to have rain. If you pan around you'll see dark clouds, overcast, temperature drop 36 degrees feels like 40. It's 50 or 49 now with the wind blowing, I was worried it was going to rain and knock us off.
So it still might rain. I'm hoping to get the metal on. That's why I did not take you with every step of the way, because I want to slow this down even more. I like having you guys along. I just got to hurry sometimes. Anyway, I'll tell you how I did it. We took that gutter down and did not cut it off. I did not unscrew it either.
I folded it down, bent it over and we cut it about every two feet and fastened it with metal screws to the metal siding up here. And then when that was done, we took these 2x10s, which we could have done it with 2x8s, but I did it would just higher quality. And we put screws about every foot, three inch screws at an angle so that when we got up there we could hit the two by that’s at the top of that and of that roof.
Now there's a one by up there with the metal roofing. We stayed below that one by and we fastened every foot or more all the way down. We didn't do anything on the bottom and you'll see that. So come with me Where... You got those? We have that gap there. Now on the other side, this 2x10 here I do not want it to be level.
I don't want water stand on it. So what I did was I went from over there and I want to stay on the flat area, not on the curved area of this thing. So I set it up there. First, we were going to put... Drill holes and put bolts through it. I didn't like how that worked out.
So what we end up doing with this, I've got the screws in here somewhere, is buying screws that you use on a trailer beds, for putting metal or wood on top of the metal bed and that is a self tapping screw. phillips head drive. It was pain, but it did go in and it was hold to good. I've got two in every one of those.
So let me take a break. Get these guys roll and I'll show you guys some more stuff.

Transcript:
This is what it looks like after we scrubbed on it quite a lot. It's not the same black bath tub. We still got some professional cleaners coming here tomorrow to clean all the cracks and corners. We end up replacing the toilet not because we had to but because they wanted a taller one. We had to replace the sink because it was rusted out in two places and along the edge. If you can see that it's pretty rusty still yet where they're sticking to the cabin and all that'll be cleaned up.
But so if you ever see it, don't give up. Be Americans, not American’ts.
With very long hours. We’ve had the floor redone. This is where the rotted out hole was and asked us to pull the wall paper off put texture over, paint it, paint the ceilings, paint the walls throughout the house.
We still need to paint here. But we’ll have to come back another time. So difficult. Still have to paint the front door, paint the porches again halls and cabinets all from the studio outside, also some ceilings. So it just goes on and on and on. But this is what we can do. This is the tile it works very good.
We dropped a, when painting, the top corner, it popped, it rolled off popcorn with paint on it and stuck to it, and dried. And we're cleaning it. Quite easily by just rubbing it. And the using, also Drew has been using the stuff called all-purpose cleaner with bleach. It works really well. The paint, the really good one. I normally don't get very much paint on me, but this stuff doesn't wipe off. It ruins things and stays on good, but it doesn't stay on the tile.
So that's another example of how that grip strip, from Home Depot, is really good stuff. Like I told you before, we can take this out and we don't take it out. So good example. Although I'm tired of hard to be optimistic as far as upbeat, but this is what you can do. And I believe that you guys can all do what we did just by hard work.
And that's the answer to the question, hard work. So the Americans, not American’ts.

Hey guys. We're back. Doing a job where we’re using a power steamer. 715 I don’t know what that comes from, but it's a chemical free way to remove wallpaper. So, we had to put the water in. It holds about a gallon says it goes 70 minutes.
It probably goes longer. You put it in, you plug it up you let it run for probably 20 or 30 minutes and start steaming, like you see right here. OK. it has very, very, very simple instructions. And then it has pictures warning, felt like it’s hot, hot to your hand, hot above you.
Water drip on. You know, I think speaking of the Adam Sandler movie, Hot water burn baby, don't burn your dog. Don't burn your child. Don't burn your wife. So no, it’s got an X on it. So anyway.
What you do is you put this all on the wallpaper. This particular job has two layers of wallpaper, but you put it on, let it sit there for a little bit, and then probably, a little longer than what you just saw. In many times, seconds to scrape off. But we've been running into real good fortune.
In sections because it actually has a layer underneath it. It's thicker and I can peel off once I get this to help me get started, then if it leaves any fuzz behind like that right there. Put some steam to. Scrape that fuzz off. If you leave it on there a long, long time, it will start peeling the When you scrape it, it’ll want to peel the drywall mud off.
Now, from experience, this is not just me running my mouth. Do not get this next to a mirror or a window.

Hey, guys. We're replacing a sliding glass door that's lost this charge a long time ago. The you always get condensation whenever, you get a thin piece of material, say, glass or metal, if that is warmer or cooler out there than it is in here or out here, then you get condensation a lot of times. You see that the bottom of windowsills and things like this, they sliding back and forth.
They lose their charge because they get rocked, a little twisted and the seal gets loosened and that charge that's in there that keeps it insulated, is no longer there. So they start sweating on the inside, and that's your deposits of water running down the inside. But this has been a long time ago. Uh, we're going to change this out to a vinyl clad one.
I believe that they've already bought, and we're going to pull the trim off, and we don’t have keys, but they should go ahead, so please don't stop us if we got the time. So here's what we're going to do. We're going to start taking the trim off and getting in here. So we didn't take you along all the way through this because we got to hurry because it was starting the pouring down rain.
But we end up adding 2x4 on this side and a one by on the bottom. And we're going to end up putting a piece of trim right here and put flashing behind that so that it won’t soak back. And we're going to recalk, and repaint all this area that we've already painted once, and then we've got to cut some.
This is a thicker door. So we're going to change the trim on the inside. But there's a lot of work by the renter that needs to be done. If not, then we’ll do it as far as cleaning up. So we're getting chased off by the rain. Sorry we didn't take you all the way to with this, but see you next time.

Transcript:
Today, we're starting on a pretty good sized project. An older house hadn't been painted in 20 plus years and it’s wood siding, had vines on the side of it. We've been pulling the vines off and scraping them. And we're going to caulk all the way around all the wood and where we lap from
One siding to the, piece of siding to the other. We’re going to seal that with caulking and we're going to go over, kills. I'll take you through that. Right now we're using wire brushes and getting the heavy fuzz off, scraping off the vines that are attached to the side and the roots are attached to that. And you'll be right along with this.
Some more examples of vines and such that we're going to be cleaning off to make this place look a little bit better. And we're also going to fix the rotted out area that's underneath the door in. It's got the door settling down in, on the left side we'll be reconditioning the, the deck and then putting deck correct on in.
This is a rental house, so it's been really abused, as bad as I've seen that it does have some work to be done and stuff. I guess renters wouldn't take care of the paint and such, so it's doing quite well.
I find myself with a tedious little job which is pulling out cigar tips out of the deck cracks. Evidently somebody smoked a lot of cigars. To give you a for instance, if you look down there, it’s the whole, all that dark area is all cigar tips. It's just a whole bunch of. But the problem is I'm supposed to be painting this deck after I clean it and it's got all kinds of cigar tips. I have to pull them out of pushing through lots of fun.
In that same house I was showing you that we're pulling vines off and and getting ready to paint.
Now we're putting the primer on Use the ladders to get up high, getting all that old paint covered up with kills 2. And we’ve got a walk board that is adjustable in between two ladders. So if you get ready to do something like that, make sure you're sitting fairly level and stable. In this case, we've got boards which you can get a little better than this, but everybody seems to be fairly confident.
But both ladders are built up and you got a walk board on there. When the first time you get on it, be real cautious, be prepared, make sure it's stable all the way through before you get real comfortable and start running on it. That way we can walk through this whole area a lot faster without readjusting constantly, setting the ladders in rough terrain. And I'll show you what we're going to do on the end when we get to it with extension ladders and ladder jacks.
We’ve got us a tall section, not terrible tall, but this is what we do on these areas that are tall in addition to extension ladders. Make sure they're set really good at the bottom. The terrain is leaning this way and that way.
So on the ladder, Jack is maybe a little bit lower this way and higher over here. And it runs this way. It kind of goes the opposite of what it wants to go with that. But you still need make sure everything is steady on the bottom of your ladders. And your ladders are fairly straight up and down and pay attention to your weight load.
Be careful when you first get up there. But we've got six feet, a little bit less or more, and we'll be able to get all that high area with what we've got right here. And this is what you can do at home.

Transcript:
3 to 1, Hey, guys. A lot of times you mess with trim that's already been painted like this and you don't really want to mess up that trim. And you can, when you drive the nails, the finish nails through ends up being a bulge on the other side. You have to dig it out and then fill it in with caulking.
More than once. Instead of doing that, which you can do is take a pair of channel locks, which is probably something every home and grab it here at the bottom. And then roll on the round side of that and it pulls it out and it doesn't tear up the board on the other side, which is where all your finish is at. Still the same.
So it's a little trick that learned along the way. I actually have some pinchers that are rounded, but channel locks in that being just as more common to have around and your general household will have that. So that's one of the ways that you pull out staples and nails without damage in the front. So a little tip for you to get along better at your own home and the good old channel locks you use for a lot of things.
Sometimes when it shouldn't be used like when you should be using a wrench instead of channel locks. You tear up the nut, like I have a propane tank and the guys end up using the channel locks and I didn't pay attention to it. And now the thing's rounded. You can't get a good grip with a pair regular, you know, wrench that fits as a so channel locks are great for a lot of uses, but some uses you shouldn't be so there you go.
Tip on how to use your channel locks to pull nails out of any number of things.

Hey, guys, This is a situation. It looks bad. Worse than it actually is. This is a candle. I would guess that melted against the wall for a while. And we're going to try to use the heat gun and a rag and see if we can take most of it off. I think we'll end up with a stain, but we're going to paint all this anyway, so let's give it a shot.
This is an actual heat gun, so I'm not sure you want to put your hand in front of it. You can also use a hairdryer. You can see my hand is getting red. Sticking it in front of that. Now, your hairdryer won’t have a light.
“Yeah, that’s warm. I can feel it. Temperature wise it’s not too bad. All right. That’s about the best you’re going to get it.”
So crayons, things like that, you can heat up and wipe off. Often you're down to the texture and think you still see a stain from the color of whatever was in that wax. And so you'll have to deal with that. But heat is what put it there and heat can take it out. There you go guys. You can use a hairdryer. Remember.

This is an inexpensive doorknob, entry doorknob, keyed entry from Lowe's. It's like $10.48 plus tax. There's three different choices: brass, aluminum, and then there's antique brass. And if you want to match it in my case, there's a rule that has two outside doors. If you want matching one on the backside, it has little numbers says. Can you see that? You can see that number 7180.
You match those up. And that's the same keys for both knobs. So, when you go to shop for that at Lowers to make sure you match those numbers up. If you want to match that way, they're keyed alike and still $10.48 is not the best, not the worst I’ve ever delt with. But there you go to a tip when you're shopping. You want the keys to be the same get those numbers inside.

Transcribe:
Hi, guys. This is a little project that they were getting a lot of rot at the bottom of the well house. And he asked me if I could figure out a way to fix it so it would not continue and make it look better. So we're going to do is use a metal roofing materials, metal on the outside. And then I had some green left over.
I told him I'd use green. And so what we're doing, what we did is beings that this looks like, it's down in the ground a little bit. I went and did the rest of it from the bottom of the siding, measured up three foot, and we’re going to put the j-channel on first and we're going to put the metal, which is over there, and we'll probably have to cut it off in this area or dig it out.
Also, the classic mistake that I made in the past is whenever I put j-channel on both the door and the the wall end up being a clash there. And it would not let the door open all the way. So, uh, we're going to start with a 45 right here so that I can put another 45 out there and the door can be opened up all the way.
And then we're going to cut right here. So I'll do is I’ll mark. Like so, that way I know where it's at. So and then we're going to fasten this with the regular drywall screws and I'm going to cut the 45 here like I was talking about, and we're going to fasten this J channel. So we'll have something pretty at the top.
He doesn't really care that much, but I do. I want him to be happy, not be unhappy. I think you might have seen me do it on other videos. So the width of this is about a half an inch, so I'll just go an inch on either side of that center. And then I cut over to it in the middle and I make it look really easy.
But it's not as easy as all that. Then I cut that notch out. What it does is let me close up like so. So then I got to... Ty, do you want to hold this? And if that on that long, you got the same thing over here. See? Kind of freehand. And, let’s see, it should be out here three quarters past how people are.
Just got through telling a guy, the day I stop making mistakes is the day I’ll be dead. I don't make a lot of mistakes. I'll try not to, but I do make mistakes. Again I'm doing this 45. Just need to cut a little bit out of it.
There we go. So we're going to fasten this and we'll show you the end result. Then we'll show you putting the metal up and everything all together.
Hey, guys, we've put the j-channel up like we said. I found a one, and I want to spend the extra money because it's already way lower than you could ever get. But, uh, I folded it in a corner in the middle of all these ridges, and then I've cut an angle out of it because the dirt over here ends up getting higher on the side. So we're gonna slip this in. Slide it up inside. Go ahead and fasten here at the top there now? Yeah. Put one on the bottom.
One, two, three. And now means that, uh, on that one there.
And then try to stay away from the rotted bottoms. And stay up in here. All right, You go all the way round and there where the door is we’ll have to leave a cut where that metal will be apart from each other. So. See ya.

Transcript:
Part of the tool that pulls up the shingles. This one's from Lowe's. It works pretty good with nails. You can come at it from any direction. And you basically slide it along on the bottom from any direction with the nails, with the staples. You'll need to either go up from underneath or down, but you won't be able to go sideways because it ends up hitting the end of the staple folded over.
You get hung up and waste a lot of time. This is a really handy tool in that you can actually keep a minimum of two people busy and you could keep as many as three or four, but you have to change off the guy working this thing is going to work hard to keep all the people busy dumping the shingles.
When the shingles are colder, they pull off in larger sections. That's something we found out. When they're hot, they pull off in smaller pieces or one or two at a time. You can get up sections more, basically. It does better when they're colder.
So I would say this is a good tool. It's a little bit on the short side for me, but it's perfect for people under six foot three. And so you're basically shoving and then pushing down. We would have done more review it and showing you more about it. But the UV was so high we're here. Ten ultraviolet rays were killing us and we were suffering pretty bad.
So be careful. Pay attention. You might actually pay attention to UV whenever you're doing any kind of removal like that or even work on anything outside. But we wanted to let you know.
That this is a good tool. It's worth $45. I guess. I'm sure there's a way to make it a lot cheaper than that. But it's worth paying $45 for.

Temperature Metal Vs Shingle Roof
Comparison of the temperature of the roof between metal and shingles.
I have a chimp, a chimp, a cheap temper temperature gun. So hot I’m slurring. And I'm going to show you the difference between shingles and the material that we're using right now. I don't know if you guys can see it, but the shingles are showing a 139-138. The metal, 112. The foam, 87. Remember, that foam is like ten inches of bat.
So we're definitely making a difference. But as opposed to shingles.

Transcript:
Beneath that linoleum. This is what I look like. We have not broken anything down. This is what it looked like. And then it's soaked all the way over here and all the way over there and kind of through here.
They're using the shower. So on the edges of the shower or over here, it's been leaking down in there, but it's looking like the toilet leaked for a regular basis. But we will open it up and see if we've got a water spray in somewhere. But this is really, really wet and it there's no damage on that. So it can't be like running off and then hitting that.
It's got to be that the toilet was leaking. There's no leaks inside here, that we found the floor in here. It's pretty solid, actually. I don't know how. So there's no leaks on the water lines are not wet. The drains are not showing any kind of a leak, but it's as wet as it can be. I assume that since this was the only toilet that he was using.
That's what it is. So we're going to tear all this out, see if we can find something else. But I'll bet it's the toilet just hitting that, and soaking around and we can wicking back like toilet paper.

Transcript:
This position that we're in. Position, position is to fix. The masonite, which is quite typical amongst a lot of mobile homes siding, somebody trying to patch it up with a Hardie board. And this works for a little bit, but we had to crawl under here and support this deck and jack it up. Maybe I'll show you guys how I did that to keep it from pulling away from here? It’s fastened pretty good on that side. This site is totally rotted out and they probably have rotting on the inside and they've about decided to have me redo that because a renter is getting in over his head.
But thank God he wants to help. What we're going to do is take this trim off. Try to save it, may not make it looks like this is already rotted and we're going to cut the plywood there and through here all and we'll probably go all the way to that window, maybe not all the way, but close. And then we'll pull it all the way down. And then I told Tommy that I would put metal flashing because that's his idea.
And then plastic and then put a Z channel which goes up underneath, comes out and then back over the wood that we're going to put in here. By the way, the siding is not exactly easy to find there. It's slightly different. So when we put that other Z channel and other siding in, we'll put a strip over here to break it up and make it look like we meant to.
It was always meant to be that. So we'll take a strip, probably about as wide as this and go over the top of the siding and that Z channel so you won't see it. And look like a decorative beltline. And we have it on this deck and we have it on another small side over there. Same problems. The water came off, drop down, bounced against the siding, soaked in, rotted out.
The deck dropped uh was bouncing didn't have a support in the middle. So, I didn't exactly put it in the middle. I moved it toward the backside some and then I put some diagonal braces. So it wouldn't fall down the hill. Kind of folds. Uh, we come a long ways already without even looking at it, but we're fixing to open up and see how ugly things are.
Realized hey, we got some people would like to see what we're doing, at least to criticize what we're doing anyway. That we put flashing in because the customer wanted to put some flashing in through and then plastic over it, which I did not have before. We put Z channel, which is longer on the top, comes out and then comes back down. That way the water run down here won’t run inside, but we're going to be putting the strip of wood over that, of course around this. We mark the. The where the wood is on the material.
I don't want to call it wood. You're not going to get any splinters. This is paper and you need to keep it sealed. But we're hitting a budget that we don't want to spend a fortune. Tearing this whole house apart and all the deck. We’re trying to hit this budget, and we're going to do it as nicely as possible. So if you look, we've got already got on with that and We'll take you along as we do the strips of wood, make it look, dress it up nice.
So we went ahead and tucked these back. This one had to be replaced. We cut another piece out of the same siding, and then we put a strip. Oh, we went to the window like we were plan to do, like it was. Meant to be that way. And we're sealing everything up and we're going to actually repaint this house. So we'll be sealing all the cracks in the nails and something you should do with Masonite every couple of years check them all out, but we'll seal everything when we fully paint.
So be sure you do that on yours. SEAL all the nails and, in our case, we used screws and it'll end up looking much better for what you have.
