Allego Tempo
‘Allegro’ is the proper title for this arrangement, however ‘allegro’ is also a common musical term which means a ‘fast tempo’. Specifically, an allegro tem po will be between 120-160 beats per minute (‘bpm’). An ‘allegro’ setting can be found on most metronomes, which are devices used to keep time via ‘clicks’ for any instrument.
Allegro is the Italian word for lively or cheerful and is used in music. Allegro is not as fast as presto and is a little faster than allegretto.
How to Play with Allegro Tempo
Once ‘Allegro’ can be played with minimal errors and clarity, the final challenge will be to focus on tempo by maintaining a steady and consistent beat throughout the song. A steady tempo should be prioritized over speed. A slower version of ‘Allegro’ played with a steady tempo simply sounds better than a sped-up version without steady tempo. There are four beats per measure, and the entire piece can be played along with a four-beat tap. While playing ‘Allegro’, having an experienced musician simply ‘tapping’ along in person to help establish a beat is a good start to practicing tempo.
Mauro Giuliani
Mauro Giuseppe Sergio Pantaleo Giuliani (27 July 1781 – 8 May 1829) was an Italian guitarist, cellist, singer, and composer. He was a leading guitar virtuoso of the early 19th century. Giuliani's achievements as a composer were numerous. Giuliani's 150 compositions for guitar with opus number constitute the nucleus of the nineteenth-century guitar repertory. He composed extremely challenging pieces for solo guitar as well as works for orchestra.

12 Bar Blues Guitar Lesson for Beginners
Most Blues songs are based from a twelve-bar format, and becoming familiar with a twelve-bar shuffle rhythm is essential for any Blues guitarist. For beginners, the first step is learn how to play a blues shuffle rhythm and then to learn what a 12 bar Blues is.
How to Play Blues Shuffle Rhythm on Guitar
A blues shuffle rhythm progression involves strumming two adjacent strings, with the lower string providing a steady bass line while the higher string is periodically ‘tapped’ to a higher fret.
The letter name of each shuffle rhythm is determined by its bass note. In this guitar lesson we'll learn how to play a blues shuffle rhythm in 'A' (‘A’ = open fifth string).
What is a 12-Bar Blues Progression?
A 12-Bar Blues progression consists of twelve sections or bars. In this Blues rhythm guitar lesson for beginners, each bar consists of eight beats (‘1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4'), which equates to two ‘taps’ (third finger to fourth fret) each bar.
Blues Shuffle Rhythm for Beginners
This Blues rhythm guitar lesson for beginners will show how to play an easy 12-bar shuffle rhythm progression in 'A'. To learn to play a blues shuffle in 'A' is easy because all three shuffle rhythm patterns ('A', 'D', 'E') are open shuffle rhythms. An open shuffle rhythm on guitar is easy to play because an open shuffle rhythm features open strings which do not need to be fretted.
The first four bars are in ‘A’, consisting of 32 total beats or eight total ‘taps’ of the third finger. Strum just the fourth and fifth strings and maintain a consistent tempo by not adding or deleting from the 32-beat count.
How to Play Blues Turnaround on Guitar
A turnaround is a standard technique used in Blues that creates tension at the end of one verse in order to ‘lead-in’ to another verse. This Blues rhythm guitar lesson for beginners shows how to play a standard blues turnaround on guitar in the Key of 'A' Blues.
Bar 5 shifts to a ‘D’ shuffle. Focus on clarity by strumming just the third and fourth strings. Bars 7-8 return back to the ‘A’ shuffle. Try playing Bars 1-8 together before moving on to Bars 9-12.
Bar 9 features a switch to an ‘E’ shuffle played for just one bar (two ‘taps’).
‘leaps over’ two strings to play a ‘D’ shuffle, then shifts down to ‘A’ for Bar 11. Focus on clarity by playing just two strings for each bar, sounding the proper bass notes clearly for each shuffle.
Ending
At the end of the twelfth bar of Verse 2, substitute the Ending in place of the turnaround used in Verse 1. A suggested count for Bars 11-12 of Verse 2 is shown below the above T ab, with the x’s representing the silent or muted third and fourth beats of the bar. Note how both the Turnaround and Ending sections each begin with a solid ‘1 - 2' count of the ‘A’ shuffle. Getting all five strings of the ‘A7' chord to ring clearly may initially be a challenge to complete the 12 bar Blues progression.

The objective of the Paluzzi Guitar video series is to help establish a foundation of guitar fundamentals by applying various playing techniques (rhythm, fingerstyle, and soloing) to various styles of music. The more playing styles and techniques a guitarist can learn, the more diverse and self-sufficient a guitarist will become. A self-sufficient guitarist can then teach themselves, communicate with other musicians, and even write their own music once a solid foundation of fundamentals is established.

How to Play Flamenco Riffs on Guitar
The Minor scale flamenco riff starts with a three five-note phrases that go up and down the first, second, and third strings. This flamenco guitar riff for beginners is played within the ‘A’ Minor box pattern. The fourth fret note played on the third string is not part of the standard ‘A’ Minor scale box pattern along the fifth fret, but is still part of the ‘A’ Minor scale, which can be played over the entire fretboard and will be covered in later minor scale guitar lessons.
How to slide notes on guitar
The last note of this minor scale flamenco riff features a slide ( / ). Fretting with the correct fingers results with the second finger being aligned along the fourth string/fifth fret to begin the slide up to the seventh fret.
How to Use Vibrato for Beginners on Guitar
Vibrato is notated with a wavy line. Vibrato is a combination of slightly shaking and sustaining a note. Being able to combine the slide with vibrato will take time while the fretting fingers gradually become stronger. Initially, focus on sustaining the last note played before adding vibrato.

How to Play in Keys on Guitar
Musicians rely on a system of notes and letters to communicate musical ideas, and this system is a must- learn when it comes to learn how to solo with the Minor scale on guitar. For example, if Carlos Santana were to ‘sit-in’ with Eric Clapton for an improvised ‘jam’, phrases such as 'Flamenco in A Minor' will be used instead of finger and fret numbers. This Minor Scale guitar lesson for beginners will show how to play in in the key of 'A' Minor, as well as any other key, using the Natural Minor scale box pattern.
Natural Minor Scale Guitar Tutorial
The Minor (aka Natural Minor) scale can generally be described as having a sad, serious, & Spanish/flamenco-like mood or tone. The Minor Scale can be played in various styles of music ranging from flamenco, to jazz, to rock. This minor scale guitar tutorial will show how to play the Natural Minor scale in any key.
Chromatic Scale Guitar Lesson
Musicians rely on a system or language based on the combination of numbers, letters, and words. The more understood about this system of music theory, the easier it will be to learn music, and the first step is to learn how to identify letter notes on the guitar.
Moveable Minor Scale Box Patterns
The Minor Scale box pattern is movable, meaning the same pattern can be played along any fret position or key on guitar. All that needs to be known is the letter name of the bottom (sixth) string note that begins the minor scale box pattern to determine the key. The minor scale box pattern played along the fifth fret position is in the Key of ‘A’ Minor because the first note played (sixth string/fifth fret) is an ‘A’ note. Shifting the same minor scale box pattern up one fret is the Key of ‘A#' Minor. ‘A#’ & ‘Bb’ are two names or synonyms for the same note or key. If one guitarist says to play in 'B flat Minor’, while another says to play in 'A sharp Minor’, they are both asking for the same scale and key to be played.
Method vs Memorization
Memorizing where all the letter notes on guitar isn’t as important as having a method to find notes along the bottom string to determine the key. Starting with the open sixth string (‘E’), ‘count-up’ the string using the chromatic scale to determine twelve potential keys for any Minor scale box pattern.
Practice in Different Keys
Once the ‘A’ Minor box pattern can be played, the next step will be to play the minor scale box pattern along different fret positions or keys. For example, playing the minor scale box pattern along the first fret position (‘F’) will be a great exercise because the fretting fingers are required to stretch more to reach the frets. Playing the minor scale box pattern along the ninth fret position (‘Db’) is also beneficial because more focus tis required to get clarity from each note played.

Natural Minor Scale Guitar Tutorial
The Minor (aka 'Natural Minor) scale can generally be described as having a sad or serious mood or tone. The Natural Minor Scale can be played in various styles of music ranging from flamenco, to jazz, to rock.
Aeolian Scale Guitar Lesson
A more academic term for the Minor scale is the Aeolian (pronounced e-olian) scale, but most musicians simply refer to it as ‘The Minor scale’. This guitar lesson will show how to play the Aeolian/Natural Minor scale as a box pattern.
How to Play Minor Scale Box Pattern on Guitar
This Minor Scale guitar lesson for beginners video will show on how to play the Minor scale box pattern. Learning to play the Minor Scale box pattern will be the first step for beginners to learn to play Spanish flamenco riffs on guitar.
Spanish Flamenco Guitar Lessons for Beginners
(Use a Pick) This Spanish flamenco first guitar lesson for beginners will show how to play the Natural Minor scale box pattern. The finger numbers to fret each note of the Minor scale box pattern on guitar are shown below the Tab. The focus of this Minor scale guitar tutorial is how to play the natural minor scale box pattern correct with clarity rather than playing with speed. To get a proper sense of phrasing the Minor scale box pattern on guitar, let the last note played (first string/fifth fret) ring or sustain.
Box Pattern Guitar Lesson
A box pattern on guitar is essentially an ‘aerial view’ of the Minor scale going across the six strings, with the sixth ‘bottom’ string being on the far left and the first ‘top’ string being on the far right. The finger numbers to fret the minor scale box pattern are shown in circles. All of notes played from the Minor scale tab will ‘fit’ within this Minor scale box pattern when beginners learn to play Spanish flamenco riffs on guitar.
Spanish Flamenco Guitar Lessons for Beginners
Regardless of what scale or style of music is being played, guitarists will usually visualize various box patterns when playing flamenco riffs, jazz, rock, etc., along the fretboard. When learning to play Spanish flamenco riffs on guitar, there are several Minor scale box patterns used with flamenco soloing, however the Minor scale box pattern featured in this guitar lesson will be referred to as the standard box minor scale box pattern.
Associating Moods with Scales
One advantage with this Spanish guitar flamenco lesson for beginners lesson will be in learning how to play the Minor scale box pattern, and to learn to hear the intended sad, serious, Spanish/flamenco mood of the minor scale on guitar.
Minor Scale Mood = Sad, Serious, Spanish/Flamenco
Associating moods with scales develops the ability to learn songs and melodies ‘by ear’. In time, by simply recognizing the mood of a guitar solo as being either sad, serious, or Spanish, a guitarist can associate that mood with the Minor scale and immediately begin to ‘jam-along’ and improvise minor scale guitar riffs with the track without having to rely on any sort of written notation.
Minor Scale Exercises for Guitar
For beginner guitarists, the primary objective early on is to develop finger strength and flexibility. Not only will learning to play the Minor scale box pattern be a great exercise for the fingers, the same Minor scale box pattern will actually be used to play flamenco riffs, jazz, and rock guitar solos. Make sure all fingers are as close to the frets as possible when playing the Minor Scale box pattern, especially when fretting with the third and fourth (‘pinky’) fingers.

Blues Guitar Lessons for Beginners
With this Blues guitar lesson for beginners video, we'll take the next step closer to how to solo and improvise with Blues guitar by showing how to play classic blues riffs. We'll also show how to solo blues riffs with backing blues rhythm tracks in different keys. With guitar tabs and box pattern diagrams, we'll cover it all with a step by step approach.
Pentatonic Minor Scale
When it comes to soloing, the primary scale used in most Blues and Rock songs is the Pentatonic Minor scale. ‘Pentatonic Minor’ is the more official or ‘academic’ name of the scale, but most guitarists refer to it as simply the ‘Blues scale’. In order to learn how to solo and improvise with Blues and Rock, the first step will be to become familiar with playing the Pentatonic Minor scale in a box pattern form.
Classic Blues Riffs Guitar Lesson
A riff can be described as a sort of ‘musical sentence’, and in order to solo and improvise the Blues, a musical vocabulary needs to be developed by copying and memorizing a collection of standard classic Blues riffs. There
are many Blues riffs that have been passed on from generation to generation, and some of these classics Blues riffs will be presented in this lesson.
How to Bend Strings Blues Lesson
‘Thē Blues Riff’ introduces two new soloing techniques for playing the Blues: bending and vibrato. In guitar tab, a bend is notated with an arrow. Use the first, second, and third fingers together to push or bend the third string toward the bottom strings. The first and second fingers are additional support fingers for bending. Using multiple fingers prevents the string from slipping, and also produces better tone.
Blues Vibrato Technique Guitar Lesson
Vibrato is a combination of shaking and sustaining a note. With vibrato, there isn’t as much of a change in pitch as there is with bending a string. Use the second finger as an additional support finger, and make sure both the second and third fingers are arched for better tone.
Moveable Blues Box Patterns
The Pentatonic Minor box pattern is movable, meaning the same Blues riffs can be played along any fret position or key on guitar. All that needs to be known is the letter name of the bottom (sixth) string note that begins the box pattern to determine the key. The Pentatonic Minor pattern played along the fifth fret position is in the Key of ‘A Blues’ because the first note played (sixth string/fifth fret) is an ‘A’ note. Shifting the same blues box pattern up one fret is the Key of ‘A# Blues’. ‘A#’ & ‘Bb’ are two names or synonyms for the same note or key. If one guitarist says to play ‘Blues in B flat’, while another says to play ‘Blues in A sharp’, they are both asking for the same scale and key to be played.
Practice Blues Riffs in Different Keys
Once the ‘A’ Blues riffs can be played, the next step will be to play the blues riffs along different fret positions or keys. For example, playing the blues riffs along the first fret position (‘F’) will be a great exercise because the fretting fingers are required to stretch more to reach the frets. Playing the blues riffs along the ninth fret position (‘Db’) is also beneficial because the frets positioned closer together require more focus to get clarity from each note played.
How to Solo Blues Riffs with Backing Rhythm
This Blues guitar lesson for beginners features several backing rhythm tracks to practice blues riffs with. This Blues guitar lesson for beginners also provides tips on how to solo Blues riffs with a backing rhythm.

How to Play Blues in Keys on Guitar
Musicians rely on a system of notes and letters to communicate musical ideas, and this system is a must- learn when it comes to learn how to solo Blues on guitar. For example, if Carlos Santana were to ‘sit-in’ with Eric Clapton for an improvised ‘jam’, phrases such as ‘Blues in B flat’ will be used instead of finger and fret numbers. This Blues guitar lesson for beginners will show how to play in ‘Blues in B flat’, as well as any other key, using the Pentatonic Minor box pattern.
Blues Basics Foundation
Before reviewing this How to Solo In Any Key Blues Guitar Lesson, a blues basics foundation should already be established by knowing the Pentatonic Minor Scale box pattern and how to name notes on the guitar by using the chromatic scale:

The Pentatonic Minor Scale
When it comes to soloing, the primary scale used in most Blues and Rock songs is the Pentatonic Minor scale. ‘Pentatonic Minor’ is the more official or ‘academic’ name of the scale, but most guitarists refer to it as simply the ‘Blues scale’. To learn how to solo and improvise with Blues and Rock, the first step will be to learn how to play the Pentatonic Minor scale Blues box pattern.
Chromatic Scale Guitar Lesson
In order to communicate musical ideas, musicians rely on a system or language based on the combination of numbers, letters, and words. The more understood about this system of music theory, the easier it will be to learn music, and the first step for guitarists is to learn how to identify letter notes on the guitar.
Moveable Blues Box Patterns
The Pentatonic Minor box pattern is movable, meaning the same pattern can be played along any fret position or key on guitar.
Method vs Memorization
Memorizing where all the letter notes on guitar isn’t as important as having a method to find notes along the bottom string to determine the key. Starting with the open sixth string (‘E’), ‘count-up’ the string using the chromatic scale to determine twelve potential keys for any Pentatonic Minor box pattern.
Practice in Different Keys
Once the ‘A’ Pentatonic Minor blues box pattern can be played up and down, the next lesson will be to play the blues box pattern along different fret positions or keys. For example, playing the blues box pattern along the first fret position (‘F’) will be a great exercise because the fretting fingers are required to stretch more to reach the frets. Playing the blues scale box pattern along the ninth fret position (‘Db’) is also beneficial because the frets positioned closer together require more focus to get clarity from each note played.

Blues Guitar Lesson for Beginners
With this blues guitar lesson for beginners video, we'll take the first step in learning how to solo and improvise on guitar by showing how to play the Pentatonic Minor scale box pattern. With box pattern diagrams, guitar tabs, and three blues scale exercises, we'll cover it all with a step by step approach.
How Play Pentatonic Minor Minor Scale Guitar Lesson
When it comes to soloing, the primary scale used in most Blues and Rock songs is the Pentatonic Minor scale. ‘Pentatonic Minor’ is the more official or ‘academic’ name of the scale, but most guitarists refer to it as simply the ‘Blues scale’. In order to learn how to solo and improvise with Blues and Rock, the first step will be to become familiar with playing the Pentatonic Minor scale in a box pattern form.
How to Play the Blues Scale on Guitar
This guitar lesson for beginners video will show how to play Blues [Pentatonic Minor] scale in ascending and descending order.
How to Play the Blues Box Pattern on Guitar
A blues box pattern is essentially an ‘aerial view’ of the blues scale going across the six strings, with the sixth ‘bottom’ string being on the far left and the first ‘top’ string being on the far right. The finger numbers to fret with are shown in circles. All of the blues scale notes played in this blues guitar lesson will ‘fit’ within this box pattern. When learning how to solo blues on guitar, various blues box patterns will be used.
Blues Scale Exercises for Guitar
This Blues guitar lesson features three blues scale exercises. For beginners, the primary objective early on is to develop finger strength and flexibility. Not only is playing the Pentatonic Minor Blues box pattern a great exercise for the fingers, the same pattern will actually be used in many classic Blues and Rock guitar solos. Make sure all fingers are as close to the frets as possible when playing the blues box pattern, especially when fretting with the third and fourth (‘pinky’) fingers.
Associating Moods with Scales
One advantage to learning the Pentatonic Minor Blues box pattern on guitar is that the intended ‘Bluesy’ mood of the Pentatonic Minor scale can clearly be heard. Associating moods with scales develops the ability to learn songs and melodies ‘by ear’. In time, by simply recognizing the mood of a guitar solo as being either Rock or Blues-based, a guitarist can associate that mood with the Pentatonic Minor scale and immediately begin to ‘jam-along’ or improvise with the track without having to rely on any sort of written notation.

How to Play Barre Chords
A barre chord requires the first finger to lay across or bar strings in order to make a chord shape movable. Barre chords are more challenging to play due to the increased number of strings that need to be fretted. This guitar lesson for beginners will show how to play barre chords with a step by step approach.
Moveable Barre Chords
The most popular barre chord uses a moveable ‘E’ chord shape. The sixth string bass note determines the letter name of this moveable E barre chord shape, producing twelve potential major barre chord

Moveable Chords
There are only three open minor chords: ‘Am’, ‘Dm’, and ‘Em’. Other minor chords require a barre in order to be played. Knowing how to bar a moveable minor chord shape will dramatically increase your chord vocabulary. The two most-popular moveable minor chord shapes are the ‘Am’ and ‘Em’ chord shapes.
Barre Minor Chord Voicings for Guitar
With two moveable ‘Am’ and ‘Em’ chord shapes, there are two potential chord voicings for any moveable minor barre chord. For example, an ‘Am’ chord can be played either with a fifth string bass note, or with a sixth string bass note at the fifth fret position (using the moveable ‘Em’ barre chord shape).
Moveable Barre Chord Shape
In theory, every chord shape is moveable. Certain barre chord shapes, however, will not ‘fit’ the hand as well as others. For example, playing a moveable ‘Dm’ chord barre shape requires the fretting hand to adjust in a way that simply isn’t feasible when it comes to getting clarity from each string, let alone being able to switch between chords with efficiency. Nevertheless, beginning students are always curious to at least try the moveable ‘Dm’ chord shape, so an example is shown right.
Chord Synonyms
The same concept that applies to enharmonic notes (sharps and flats) will also apply to moveable minor barre chords. For example, a ‘Bb’ minor chord can also be referred to as an ‘A#’ minor chord. A moveable ‘Em’ barre chord shape played along the second fret position can be referred to as either a ‘Gbm’ chord or an ‘F#m’ chord.
Minor Chords Guitar Lesson
With twelve different notes on each string, there are 24 total minor chords that can be played with just two moveable minor barre chord shapes (‘Am’ and ‘Em’).

Guitar Lessons for Beginners Video
This guitar lessons video will show how to play an easy F chord for beginners. This beginner guitar lesson will also show how to increase you chord chord vocabulary on guitar by introducing concepts such as moveable chords and chord voicings. With guitar tabs and chord diagrams, we'll cover it all with a step by step approach.
How to play an F Chord on Guitar
There are many ways to play an ‘F’ chord, including the full six-string barre shape that even pro guitarists consider frustrating to play. The beginners guitar lesson will start with an easy ‘F’ chord shape using just four strings.
Easy F Chord on Guitar for Beginners
For beginners, getting all four strings of an ‘F’ chord to sound clearly will be a challenge. What makes the ‘F’ chord difficult for beginners is that the first finger needs to be flattened or partially barred across the top two strings while the second and third fingers need to simultaneously be curved in order to fret the third and fourth strings.
Finger Exercises for Guitar - How to Improve Finger Strength
This guitar lesson for beginners will show finger exercises to improve finger strength for guitar. This finger exercises in this beginner guitar will show how to improve your finger strength and make your fingers stronger.
F Chord Exercise for Beginners on Guitar
Play an ‘F’ chord arpeggio using a pick or the thumb. Most likely, all four strings will not sustain or ring clearly. Continue to slide the ‘F’ chord shape up one fret at time and repeat the four-note arpeggio until reaching the fifth fret position. Try to at get clarity from the fourth (bass note) and third strings to start. The goal is to improve finger strength by keeping the fretting hand pressed down against the strings while moving up the fretboard.
Tips for Playing F Chord Arpeggios
1. Play each guitar arpeggio slowly. Even if all the strings do not ring clearly, continue on with the exercise. Simply holding the ‘F’ shape down and sliding up one fret at a time builds finger strength in the left hand, which will then make the finger arpeggio exercise easier to practice.
2. The first string, (last string played in the arpeggio exercise) will usually be the most difficult to sound for beginners. Even though the objective is to play all four strings in each arpeggio clearly, make sure the fourth, third, and second strings sound clear before focusing on the first string.
3. Most likely, the first clear-sounding or ‘perfect’ arpeggio will be the last one played along the fifth fret due to the frets being positioned closer together higher up the fretboard.
4. The goal is to get a total of all 20 notes to ring clear (four clear-sounding notes per arpeggio).
F Chord Shape = 12 Chords
When moving an ‘F’ chord shape up from fret to fret, all four notes from the ‘F’ chord shift up together simultaneously, resulting in a moveable chord shape. To make an ‘F’ chord shape moveable, simply ‘count-up’ the chromatic scale and twelve potential chords can be played with just one moveable chord shape.
Chords Are Moveable
To make any chord moveable, the general rule is that all notes that make up a chord shape must simultaneously move together up or down the fretboard. Understanding this concept of moveable chords can dramatically improve a beginner guitarist’s chord vocabulary.
Chord Voicings Guitar Lesson for Beginners
With guitar chord voicings, there is more than one way to play a particular chord on guitar. For example, the moveable ‘F’ chord shape played along the fifth fret is an ‘A’ chord, which is a different chord voicing from the standard ‘open A’ chord. Both chord voicings contain the same notes that makeup an ‘A’ chord (‘A’, ‘C#’, ‘E’).

Guitar Lessons for Beginners
This guitar lessons for beginners video will show how to name every letter note on the guitar. With fretboard diagrams and self-practice tests, we'll cover it all with a step by step approach.
String Names on Guitar
This guitar lesson for beginners will show how to name the six strings on guitar. The letter names of the open strings (from the first ‘top’ string to the sixth ‘bottom’ string) are: ‘E’- ‘B’- ‘G’- ‘D’- ‘A’- ‘E’.
Chromatic Scale Guitar Lesson
This guitar lesson for beginners will show how to use the chromatic scale notes on guitar. The chromatic scale consists of twelve notes and is essentially the ‘music alphabet’. The letters ‘A’ through ‘G’ identify the first seven notes, while the remaining five notes have an additional description of either ‘sharp’ or ‘flat’ added to a letter name.
Sharp and Flat Notes on Guitar
This guitar lesson for beginners will show how to name all the sharp and flat notes on guitar. In music, the term ‘sharp’ means a note is raised to higher pitch. For example, ‘A sharp’ will always be a higher pitch than ‘A’. The musical term ‘flat’ means the opposite. When a note is flattened, it is lowered from its original pitch.
Enharmonic Notes on Guitar
This guitar lesson for beginners video will review all enharmonic notes on guitar. Is there a difference between ‘A sharp’ and ‘B flat’? Not really. ‘A#’ and ‘Bb’ are two names for the same note. Notes such as ‘A#’/‘Bb’ and ‘D#’/‘Eb’ are enharmonic, meaning they can be referred to as either sharp or flat notes. How to determine when to call a note either sharp or flat isn’t as important as knowing which notes do not have sharps (‘B’ & ‘E’) and which notes do not have flats (‘C’ & ‘F’).
How to Name Letter Notes on Guitar
In order to communicate musical ideas, musicians rely on a system or language based on the combination of numbers, letters, and words. The more understood about this system of music theory, the easier it will be to learn music, and the first step for guitarists is to learn how to identify letter notes on the guitar.
Learn All Notes on the Fretboard
This guitar lesson will show how to name all letter notes on the fretboard. The same twelve-note pattern repeats every twelve frets on the guitar. All of the open string notes on guitar are the same letter name as those along the twelfth fret. Both the open first string and the first string/twelfth fret are ‘E’ notes, with the ‘E’ along the twelfth fret being an octave higher.
How to Use the Chromatic Scale
Knowing the chromatic scale provides the beginner guitarist with a solid foundation for many aspects of learning guitar.
Tuning: Knowing the chromatic scale is essential when using a guitar tuner. Most guitar tuners are chromatic, meaning they are capable of identifying all twelve notes. When first attempting to tune a guitar, many beginners tend not to bother to look for sharp or flat symbols next to the letter note. If the bottom ‘E’ string is loose for example, a chromatic tuner may identify the note as either ‘E flat’ or ‘D sharp’. The guitarist who knows the chromatic scale will know that ‘E flat’ or ‘D sharp’ is a lower pitch than ‘E’ and will tighten the string to raise it to its correct pitch of ‘E’.
Bass Notes: For all of the basic chords, the bass note of each chord will match the letter name of the chord. With a ‘G’ chord for example, the bass note is ‘G’ (sixth string/third fret). For a ‘C’ chord, the bass note is ‘C’ (fifth string/third fret). Knowing the correct bass note of a chord is essential in getting its proper sound.
Going Beyond the Basics
Regardless of what particular style of music one wishes to learn, the chromatic scale is must-know for every guitarist. Whether it is learning about soloing, songwriting, or improvising, the chromatic scale will continue to be the foundation when it comes to learning more about music theory.

Guitar Lessons for Beginners
This guitar lessons for beginners video will show how to read guitar tablature, also known as guitar tab. This beginners guitar lesson will then show how learn a basic song/melody by using guitar tab.
Reading Standard Notion vs Guitar Tab.
This guitar lesson for beginners will also compare leaning to read music with standard notation with learning to read guitar tab. Even though standard notation (aka piano music) and guitar tablature share a slight resemblance, both are totally different formats for written guitar music. Compared to having to learn how to read standard notation, which takes years to master, understanding how to read a guitar tab only takes minutes. Adapting standard notation for guitar occasionally requires interpreting how to properly play a guitar part, whereas a correct guitar tab shows the exact strings and fret positions to play a guitar part correctly. All the guitarist needs to know to start reading tab are the ‘Three Sets of Numbers’.
Learn the String Numbers for Guitar
This guitar lesson for beginners video will show how to name the six string numbers on guitar. String numbers are numbered ‘1' through ‘6', with the first being the thinnest string and the sixth string being the thickest. All guitar descriptions are based primarily on sound, so the highest-sounding first string is referred to as the ‘top’ string, while the lowest-sounding sixth string is referred to as the ‘bottom’ string. This initially can be confusing for beginners because when holding a guitar, the sixth ‘bottom’ string is actually positioned above the first string.
The ‘Three Sets of Numbers’ (fingers, frets, and strings) can all be represented in written form using guitar Tab. The string numbers are represented by six lines, with the top line being first string and the bottom line being the sixth ‘bottom’ string. The fret numbers are represented by the number placed on each line. A number ‘1' appearing on the top line means the first string/first fret is being played.
What are the finger numbers for guitar?
This guitar lesson for beginners will show how to name the finger numbers for guitar. Finger numbers are numbered ‘1' through ‘4' on both hands, starting with the index finger (‘1') and ending with the ‘pinky’ finger (‘4'). The thumb is often notated with the letter ‘T’. Though beginners will initially be focused on the left hand finger numbers for fretting notes on guitar, the right hand finger numbers will also become a primary focus when learning fingerstyle technique. For those who have had classical training, finger numbers are used in place of the ‘PI’ method for naming fingers.
The finger numbers to fret with are shown under the six lines, directly below each corresponding fret number. Finger numbers are not shown with most guitar tabs, but are included here to ensure all notes are fretted properly. As guitarists gain more playing experience, knowing which finger numbers to use will become less of an issue.

This guitar lesson for beginners will show how to play Are You Sleeping on guitar.
Do I have to learn to read music to play guitar?
Contrary to popular belief, learning how to read standard notation (piano music) isn’t necessary in order to become a great guitarist. Guitarists can learn to compose, perform, and communicate musical concepts without having to read or write a single note of standard notation. Think of any famous guitarist or group you may like and picture them on stage performing. The odds are they will not be sitting on chairs reading standard notation. Those guitarists who focus more on the technical aspect of sight reading are more likely to become studio or classical musicians, while those who focus more on the creative aspects of playing are more likely to become songwriters and performers in their own right.

Minor chords have a more ‘sad’ or ‘serious’ tone when compared to major chords. Despite the obvious difference in tone, the only difference in the makeup between a major and minor chord is just one note.
How to Play Minor Chord Arpeggios on Guitar
Fret an ‘E’ chord and play a slow arpeggio with the thumb going across the bottom four strings (make sure all strings ring clearly) Next, lift the first first finger off the third string and repeat the same four note arpeggio.
When comparing the two arpeggios, an obvious change to a more serious mood occurs when the first finger is lifted. This change in mood
shows the fundamental difference between an ‘E’ Major (‘E’) and an ‘E’ Minor (‘Em’) chord.
Minor Chord Symbol for Guitar
The chord symbol for a minor chord will be a letter followed by a lower case ‘m’. Major chords usually do not have a symbol and often are not even referred to as ‘major’. For example, when someone asks to play a ‘D’ chord, it is understood that the chord played is actually a ‘D’ Major chord.
'Minor' vs 'Flat' Musical Terms
Many beginners tend to confuse the terms ‘minor’ with ‘flat’ and ‘sharp’ with ‘major’. The terms ‘sharp’ and flat are used to describe specific notes, while the terms ‘major’ and ‘minor’ are used to describe specific chords or scales.
Fingerstyle Guitar Lesson for Beginners
This fingerpicking guitar lesson for beginners will show how to fingerpick minor chords.
Minor Chord Guitar Progression for Beginners
This minor chord guitar lesson for beginners also features a minor chord progression using minor chords exclusively. When compared to a chord progression with major chords, this minor chord progression will have more of a sad or serious tone or mood. Each section of this minor chord progression uses basic fingerpicking (fingerstyle) technique, so the entire progression can be written out using just chord symbols. How many times to fingerpick each minor chord is shown in ( ) below each chord.
Minor Chords Guitar Tutorial for Beginners
Once the minor chord progression is memorized, an additional challenge will be to have another guitarist solo ( ‘A’ Minor scale) while the progression is played. Rather than playing unaccompanied, a guitar duet will help the beginner guitarist hear harmonization between a solo melody and a fingerstyle minor chord progression.
Guitar Basics Lessons for Beginners
Learning how to play a minor chord progression provides three challenges for beginners: fingerstyle technique (fingerpicking minor chords), changing chords, & memorizing beginner chord progressions for guitar.
Guitar Basics Foundation for Beginners
Along with previous guitar basics lessons for beginners, learning how to play minor chords, how to fingerpick minor chords, and learning a minor chord progression helps establish a solid foundation for the beginner guitarist to start learning actual songs. The minor chord progression in this beginner guitar lesson features standard chord changes that will be found in most basic guitar songs.

Fingerpicking for Beginners Guitar Lesson
With this Guitar Lessons for Beginners video, we'll show you how to apply basic fingerstyle or fingerpicking technique with basic major chords. We'll also show how beginners can improve chord changes when playing chord progressions.
Fingerstyle Technique Guitar Lesson for Beginners
Fingerstyle technique or ‘fingerpicking’ involves plucking the strings with the fingers instead of strumming with a pick or using the thumb. Basic Fingerstyle Technique involves using the first, second, and third fingers to pluck the top three strings of a chord while the bass note (fourth, fifth, or sixth string) is plucked with the thumb.
How to Fingerpick Chords
While fretting a ‘G’ chord with the left hand, position the right hand over the soundhole and align the fingers as follows: right hand thumb-sixth string, first finger-third string, second finger- second string, third finger-first string. (shown right) The first, second, and third fingers are now assigned to pluck the third, second, and first strings respectfully, while the thumb is assigned to pluck the bass note of the chord. The next step is to show how to fingerpick a ‘G’ chord arpeggio.
How to Fingerpick Arpeggios
Using the finger numbers assigned to the strings, fingerpick an arpeggio by plucking the string numbers in this order: ‘ 6 - 3 - 2-1-2-3'. Use the thumb to pluck the bass note with a downstroke, then use the fingers to pluck the top three strings using upstrokes. Once each string rings clearly, focus on keeping an even tempo by ‘counting’ each six-note arpeggio as: ‘1-2-3 - 1-2-3'.
Fingerstyle Technique
The same basic fingerstyle technique can be applied to any chord. The top three strings will always be plucked the same way with the same fingers. The only difference will be which bass note (fourth, fifth, or sixth string) the thumb plucks. The tabs below show the basic fingerstyle technique applied to all eight basic chords.

Chord Progressions for Guitar
Just about every song in any style of music is based on a chord progression. A progression is an arrangement of chords, and learning to play a basic chord progression on guitar will bring the beginning guitarist another step closer to start learning some basic guitar songs. This Paluzzi Guitar Lesson will show how to play a complete ‘G-C-D progression’ using fingerstyle technique on guitar.
Fingerstyle Tutorial for Guitar - ‘G-C-D’ Progression
The same basic fingerstyle technique introduced in this fingerpicking guitar lesson for beginners will be applied to each chord in this progression, so the entire arrangement can be written out using just chord symbols.
How to Change Chords Faster on Guitar
The primary challenge in playing the ‘G-C-D Progression’ will be changing chords. Developing the ability to change chords swiftly will take time and practice. One approach to improving the speed of a chord change is to focus specifically on where each individual finger shifts to. For example, when switching from a ‘G’ to a ‘C’ chord, focus on how the third finger alone shifts from the first string/third fret of the ‘G’ chord to the fifth string/third fret bass note of the ‘C’ chord. This focus can be applied to any finger. With repetitive practice, muscle memory eventually develops with the fingers to the point where all fingers will simultaneously move together to improve faster chord changes.

Major Chords for Beginners Guitar Lesson
With this guitar lessons for beginners, we'll show you how to play five basic major chords. Along with guitar tabs and chord diagrams, we'll cover it all with a step by step approach.
How to Play Chords on Guitar Lesson
Learning to play chords is essential for every guitarist. A chord consists of three or more notes (or strings on guitar) played together in succession. Though there are hundreds of potential chords to play, a beginner guitarist only needs to memorize about several chord shapes in order to start learning some basic guitar songs. This Paluzzi Guitar beginner lesson will show how to play the 5 basic major chords for guitar.
Majpr Chords Guitar Lesson for Beginners
This beginners guitar lesson will show how to play the five basic major chords on acoustic guitar.
How to Read Guitar Chord Diagrams
Guitar chord diagrams present an ‘aerial view’ of the fretboard, with the sixth ‘bottom’ string being on the far left and the first ‘top’ string being on the far right. The fingers numbers to fret with are shown in black circles. The double lines represent the frets and are numbered. The thick black line on top represents the ‘nut’ or the open ‘0’ fret position. The ‘x’ above each string means the string is not played, while the ‘o’ above each string means the string is played ‘open’ (not fretted).
How to Play Arpeggios on Guitar
The best way to learn chords on guitar is to initially play them as arpeggios. An arpeggio is when each string is plucked individually instead of strumming all of the strings at once. This beginners guitar lesson will show how to play major chords as arpeggios.
Arpeggios: Tips for the Fretting Hand
1. The fretting fingers need to be as close to the frets as possible without touching them.
2. Bend the knuckles so the tips of the fretting fingers are pushing down on the strings.
3. Avoid muting strings by not having the fingers lean on other strings.
Arpeggios: Tips for the Plucking Hand
When learning how to play arpeggios on guitar, many beginners tend to apply too much pressure plucking the strings with the right hand while not applying enough pressure with the left (fretting) hand to fret the strings. The fretting hand controls the clarity of notes played, and beginners should focus on applying extra pressure with the fretting hand until finger strength improves.
Bass Notes
The bass note of a chord is the lowest sounding string played in the chord. The total number of strings that makeup a chord determine the bass note of the chord. For example, a ‘G’ chord uses all six strings, so the bass note of a ‘G’ chord is the sixth string. The bass note of a ‘C’ chord is the fifth string, and the bass note for a ‘D’ chord will be the fourth string.

How to Play an 'A' Chord on Guitar
This guitar lessons for beginners video by Paluzzi Guitar will show how to play an "A' chord on guitar. Regardless of which ‘A’ chord is played (both are popular), all three fingers cannot actually ‘fit’ directly along the second fret. With the middle ‘A’ chord for example, the first finger on the third string will be slightly below the second fret, forming more of a ‘mini-triangle’ shape rather than a straight line.

America "Tin Man" Songfacts
"Tin Man" is a 1974 song by the pop rock band America. 'Tin Man' was written by band member Dewey Bunnell and produced by George Martin, who also plays the piano part on the recorded version. 'Tin Man' was included on the band America's album Holiday, also from 1974.
'Tin Man' by America has lyrics that refer to the Tin Woodman from The Wizard of Oz. Songwriter Bunnell was quoted describing the parallel: "My favorite movie, I guess. I always loved it as a kid. Very obscure lyrics. Great grammar - 'Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man.' It's sort of a poetic license."
Dan Peek - who describes "Tin Man" as "quintessential Dewey, easy stream of consciousness with a major seventh acoustic bed" - states that Bunnell "actually begged us not to record the song. Knowing Dewey it was probably reverse psychology; if it was, Gerry [Beckley] and I fell for it, insisting it was perfect for the album."
America is a British rock band in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek and Gerry Beckley. The trio met as sons of US Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live. Achieving significant popularity in the 1970s, the trio was famous for its close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound. The band released a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop/soft rock stations.
The band America came together shortly after the members' graduation from high school in the late 1960s. In 1970, Peek joined the band, and they signed a record deal with Warner Bros. The following year, they released their self-titled debut album, which included the transatlantic hits "A Horse with No Name" and "I Need You". Their second album, Homecoming (1972), included the single "Ventura Highway". Over the next several years, the band continued to release hit songs, including “Muskrat Love” on Hat Trick (1973), "Tin Man" and "Lonely People" on Holiday (1974), and "Sister Golden Hair" and "Daisy Jane" on their 1975 record Hearts. It was also in 1975 when America released History: America's Greatest Hits, a compilation of hit singles, which was certified multi-platinum in the United States and Australia. Peek left the group in 1977 and their commercial fortunes declined, though they returned to the top 10 in 1982 with the single "You Can Do Magic". The band's final Top 40 hit was "The Border", which reached no. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983. The group continues to record material and tour regularly.

America Tin Man Lyrics
Sometimes late
When things are real
And people share the gift of gab
Between themselves
Some are quick
To take the bait
And catch the perfect prize
That waits among the shells
But Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad
So please believe in me
When I say I'm spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain'd bright colors
Image going down, down, down, down
Soaps a green like bubble
Oh Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad
So please
Believe in me
When I say I'm spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain'd bright colors
Image going down, down, down, down
Soaps a green like bubble
No, Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad
So please
Believe in me

"Song Sung Blue" by Neil Diamond Lyrics
Song sung blue
Everybody knows one
Song sung blue
Every garden grows one
Me and you are subject to the blues now and then
But when you take the blues and make a song
You sing them out again
Sing them out again
Song sung blue
Weeping like a willow
Song sung blue
Sleeping on my pillow
Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice
And before you know, it get to feeling good
You simply got no choice
Me and you are subject to the blues now and then
But when you take the blues and make a song
You sing them out again
Song sung blue
Weeping like a willow
Song sung blue
Sleeping on my pillow
Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice
And before you know, it started feeling good
You simply got no choice
Song sung blue
