Car/Pickup Collision Hospitalizes 1, BLANCHARD, March 5, 2024 - At approximately 10:15 am on March 5, 2024, a black 2006 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by Thomas Martin, 65, of Livingston, was south-bound on FM-2457. As Martin was passing FM-3126 (by Blanchard Baptist Church), a blue-green 2011 Ford Edge, driven by Kay Stephens, 69, of Onalaska, pulled off of 3126 and slammed into the passenger's side of Martin's pickup. The impact knocked Martin's front passenger's side tire off as Martin slid to a stop. Stephens' vehicle came to rest on the pavement at the intersection. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Troopers Johnny Wilkerson, Nick Hatton, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Stephens was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Martin was physically okay. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Stephens is facing a citation for failure to yield at the intersection. Martin's vehicle was recovered by Smith Towing out of Livingston, while Stephens' vehicle was recovered by George White & Sons Wrecker Service out of Onalaska.

Failure to Yield Hospitalizes 3, GOODRICH, February 28, 2024 - At 11:40 am on February 28, 2024, a brown 2016 Nissan Murano, driven by Wayne Mathews, 63, of Cypress, was south-bound on US-59. Mathews broad sided a vehicle that suddenly pulled off of the north end of Loop 393 and failed to yield. The impact caused Mathews' vehicle to roll and came to rest in the center median, upside down. The other vehicle, a red 2022 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by Jill Duke, 69, of Goodrich, continued across 59, crossed the north-bound lanes, and came to rest in the grass on the north-bound side. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments, Deputy Sanford with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Mathews and his female passenger were entrapped in their upside down vehicle. Volunteer Firemen were able to safely extract both. Mathews was flown from the scene by Air Life Air Medical while his passenger and Jill Duke was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. One lane of traffic on both sides of 59 were blocked during investigation and cleanup. Duke is facing a citation for failure to yield. Mathews' vehicle was recovered by Smith Towing out of Livingston while Duke's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker ouf of Goodrich. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Driver Slams Into Tree, SEGNO, February 24, 2024 - At approximately 11:20 am on February 24, 2024, the driver of a silver 2015 Ford Expedition was east-bound on FM-943 when he left the pavement to the left and struck a tree near the intersection of 943 and FM-1276. The driver, Leonard Whiting, 65, of Livingston, was entrapped. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Sergeant Jason Paski and Deputy Chrissy McCarty with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Emergency personnel were able to carefully remove Whiting from his vehicle. Whiting was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic was not blocked during investigation and cleanup. It is not yet known why Whiting left the pavement (possibly sleepy, or traveling too fast in a curve). The accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Whiting's vehicle was recovered by Kwik Tow out of Livingston.

Charles was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Glenn was physically okay. Car Rear Ends 18 Wheeler, GOODRICH, February 16, 2024 - At approximately 9:55 am on February 16, 2024, an 18 wheeler flat bed, driven by Alan Rokhar, 40, of Palestine, was north-bound on US-59. Rokhar was nearly completely stopped due to backed up traffic from road construction (next to Stallion Station Road). Rokhar was suddenly slammed from behind by a gray 2015 Mazda CX5 driven by Mckennna Shulin, 18, of Bedford. Evidence suggests that Shulin caught herself at the last second and cut right but still slammed into the back of Rokhar's 18 wheeler. Shulin's car bounced to the right and spun around as it left the pavement and came to rest at the edge of the woodline facing south. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Fortunately for Shulin she sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. Shulin will be cited for failure to control speed. One lane of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Shulin's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker Service and will be stored in Goodrich.

Motorcycle Accident, Driver and Passenger Critical, BLANCHARD, February 9, 2024 - Shortly before 7 pm on February 9, 2024, the driver of a red Kawasaki motorcycle (with female passenger) was south-bound on FM-2457. According to a witness, the driver was traveling around 100 miles per hour (towards the end of 2457 on the lake). The driver lost control, the motorcycle turned over on its side and slid approximately 150 feet, crashed through the end-of-road barrier and came to rest in the grass. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department and Trooper Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol. A witness at the scene (Jason Turner, of Livingston) was fishing off a nearby pier and went to help before EMS personnel arrived. Neither the driver nor his passenger had any identification on them. Both were transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone and flown to the Houston area in critical condition. At time of press, the names have not yet been released. The motorcycle was recovered by Dan's Towing out of Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Suddenly, a west-bound silver 2019 Chevy Equinox, driven by Gilbert Thompson, 30, of Livingston, veered over the center line causing a glancing head on collision with Abate's vehicle. The impact caused Abate's vehicle to leave the pavement to the right and continue down an embankment where it came to rest. Thompson's vehicle spun around facing east and came to rest on the shoulder of the west-bound lane. Allegiance Ambulance service was dispatched to the scene along with the Alabama Coushatta and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments, the Alambama Coushatta Police Department, the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Corporal Ramey Bass and Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol. Abate and his wife were entrapped as was Thompson. Firemen were able to rescue all three. Abate and his wife were both transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. An Air Life medical helicopter landed on 190 and flew Thompson from the scene. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation, flight operations, and cleanup. Thompson had cans of beer in his vehicle and there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from Thompson's person. Pending an investigation, Thompson may be facing serious alcohol related charges. The vehicles were recovered by LakeView Towing and Kwik Tow (both out of Livingston). This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Roach was waiting to make a left turn (just east of the Cedar Point Subdivision) when she was slammed from behind by a tan 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup driven by Lena Dickerson, 25, of Onalaska. The impact knocked Roach's vehicle into the east-bound lane and she was slammed again (glancing head on) by a white Chevy Silverado driven by Phillip Wilkinson, 65, of Splendora. Roach's vehicle and Dickerson's vehicle's came to rest on the pavement while Wilkinson's vehicle left the pavement to the right and came to rest in a parking area. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Game Wardens and Troopers Sean Barnes, Nick Hatton, and Sergeant Allen Stanton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Joan Roach was killed on impact. Dickerson and Wilkinson were both transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. All traffic was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Justice of the Peace, Terri Mayer filed an inquest at the scene. A first-call car from Pace Funeral Home transported Roach from the scene. All three vehicles were recovered by George White & Sons Wrecker Service out of Onalaska. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

According to witnesses, the driver of a Toyota Tacoma slid out of control on the icy bridge. That was the beginning. A multi-vehicle pile up of eight vehicles inlcuing 18 wheelers were involved. According to sources, one woman involved in the accident who was driving a silver Ford F-150 pickup, got out of her vehicle to help. She was then struck by another out of control vehicle. She (Salina Gilcrest, of Jasper) was rushed by ambulance CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital where she passed away shortly after arriving. Troopers from Polk and San Jacinto Counties converged on the scene and secured the bridge. South-bound traffic on 59 was backed up far. The south-bound side of the Trinity River Bridge was shut down for hours due to the strewned wreckage, investigation, and cleanup. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol in San Jacinto County.

Oldner was waiting to make a left turn into Lake Livingston RV Park when he was slammed from behind by a tan 1998 Chevy pickup driven by Stormi Gail Cook, 36, of Livingston. The impact pushed Oldner's vehicle into the oncoming west-bound lane as he was slammed again by a white 2020 GMC Terrain driven by Terry Lynn Wilson, 70, of Livingston. Cook's pickup left the pavememnt to the right and came to rest in the weeds, Oldner's vehicle was spun around facing west and came to rest on the pavement, and Wilson's west-bound vehicle left the pavement to the right and came to rest on the front lawn of Lake Livingston RV Park. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Corporal Marcus Bailey with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Cotye Lowrie and Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. A Life Flight helicopter landed on 2457 and flew Oldner to Herman Hospital in Houston, Cook and male passenger, and Wilson were all transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All traffic on 2457 was blocked during investigation, flight operations, and cleanup. Cook was cited for failure to control speed, no driver's license, and no insurance. Additionally, pocket scales, baggys, and methamphetamine was found in Cook's pickup (which will mean more charges). All three vehicles were recovered by Dan's Towing out of Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Simons' pickup broadsided the passenger's side of the Jeep. Both vehicles came to rest on the right side of the pavement. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Officers Chad Lilley and Sergeant Dallas Early with the Livingston Police Department. Wallace and his passenger were entrapped in their Jeep. Volunteer Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut the door off the Jeep and safely retrieve both. Simons had a hurt foot but refused medical treatment. Wallace and his passenger were both transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Wallace was cited for failure to yield. Both vehicles were recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.

Thompson swerved left to avoid impacting Bailey's vehicle, but Bailey had just started his turn. Thompson did impact Bailey as both vehicles left the pavement to the left and went into the trees. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Holiday Lake Estates, and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. Bailey was carefully removed from his vehicle by EMS personnel and transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Thompson was physically okay.
