Cute and adorable sulcata turtle eating vegetables at night
The Sulcata tortoise is the third largest land tortoise in the world, after the Galapagos tortoise and the Aldabra of course. Because of its size, a small child can ride its carapace like a piggyback. Its body size is only about 5 cm when it hatches from the egg. But they grow and develop, until over time, the length of the carapace can reach almost 1 meter when they mature. A large body, must be balanced also with increased weight as well. Not to mention, the Sulcata tortoise has a hard, thick, and strong shell, so of course it must have an impact on increasing body weight. Sulcata tortoises can weigh up to 105 kg as adults. But in some other sources say they only weigh about 50 kg. This is of course very relative, because each individual will have a varying weight. In its first years, the Sulcata tortoise experienced very rapid and significant growth. Generally, the growth is about 1 cm per month.

Johanita and her family are exploring an archaeological site in Ecuador, being led on a guided tour of ancient ruins. An unexpected bonus of this tour is that a herd of alpacas roams free on the enormous expanse of rolling hills. They have learned that some of the visitors have brought salt with them. The guides hand out salt which is given to the alpacas to supplement their diet. The alpacas flock around the guests to get their share. Johanita's family is experiencing this for the first time. They have struggled with Johanita's health as she battled a brain tumor that required numerous surgeries since she was diagnosed at 18 months of age. Johanita has spent a great deal of her life in hospital or recuperating at home. She is now enjoying a long stretch of good health and her family has been taking advantage of this to have more family time. Dave and Kristy are also visiting from Canada and this tour was the perfect opportunity for the two families to share an experience that none of them would forget. Johanita's brothers watched and laughed along with Johanita as her giggles lit up the faces of everybody around her.

Ancient giant tortoise happily munches in epic slow motion
The giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands are among the oldest living animals on earth. When we think of ancient creatures, this gentle giant is usually what comes to mind. But surprisingly, there are more than ten species of animals that outlive the estimated 200 year lifespan of a giant tortoise. Among them are jellyfish, sponges corals, clams, and even a few species of whale. The giant tortoise may hold the record as the longest living land animal.brbrThis giant tortoise lives on Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos. He roams freely and munches happily on almost any vegetation that he finds. Slow moving, these animals do not have much hope of evading or outrunning any predator. They are not capable of fighting off any animal determined enough to attack it. Their defence is their heavy armour and their ability to outwait any threat. They are able to retreat into their shell and pull their legs in tight. The heavy scales and thick skin are almost impenetrable.brbrWeighing as much as 400kg (880lbs) when full grown, few animals could overturn them or get at their vulnerable areas. The tortoise can wait in its shell until the predator grows tired and leaves. In fact, almost any carnivore would die of starvation long before the tortoise needed to come out of its shell. They can last as long as one year without food or water.brbrThe longevity of the tortoise is another reason that they are still on the planet. Living over 200 years allows them to last through many breeding seasons, with the females laying thousands of eggs in their lifetime. Unfortunately, the eggs and the small tortoises are not safe from predators such as rats, dogs, and birds.brbrThis tortoise may be old enough to have been alive when Charles Darwin made his historic voyage on the HMS Beagle from 1831 to 1836, bringing him to these islands where he found the data and inspiration for his theories of evolution.brbrThe giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands are beautiful and fascinating. A trip to the islands would not be complete without spending some time watching these great beasts in their natural habitat.

Scuba divers become lost in gigantic & beautiful bait ball
Black striped salema are a small fish that are found in many waters around the world, and also in the ocean surrounding the Galapagos Islands. They are bait fish for sea lions, larger fish, aquatic birds, and many other animals. They are vast in number and their main defense against predators is to swarm in tight clusters to confuse attackers and make it harder to isolate and capture the individual fish. When threatened, these fish dart rapidly in all directions and move even closer together. Even when not threatened, they find safety in the school and they stay close to other fish. These scuba divers entered the water to explore the surroundings and check out the marine life. They saw a sea lion hunting in the shallower area around the rocks and then they saw why she was there. There was a huge school of black striped salemas cruising through. In response to the sea lion's attempts to catch them, they changed direction abruptly and closed ranks. The sea lion regarded the scuba divers with a mix of curiosity and playfulness. It is very common for predators like the sea lion to work together, taking turns ambushing the fish. It's very possible that she was hoping the divers would create opportunities for feeding. Sea lions are naturally curious about humans in the water and they will often buzz past closely, seemingly in an invitation to play. The salemas also saw an opportunity and they gathered around the divers, hoping to avoid the sea lion. The scuba divers were totally engulfed in the school of fish, occasionally swallowed up by the darkness as the light above was almost completely blocked out. Salemas are unspeakably beautiful and being completely surrounded by an endless school was an unforgettable experience for these scuba divers.

Mother owl watches over newborn as they eat breakfast
Great horned owls are the largest owl species in North America. Although the snowy owl is taller, the great horned owl is the heaviest of the family. It is the most powerful in terms of talon grip strength and ability to carry off larger prey. It feeds primarily on rabbits, voles, and other rodents, but it also takes down birds, including other owls.brbrThis mother owl has found a clump of trees in a remote spot on the edge of an Ontario forest. she laid her eggs in February, during an extremely cold time of year in Canada. But she is large enough and insulated well enough to keep her eggs warm for the 37 days that it takes for her babies to hatch. She and her mate will spend 42 days caring for and feeding the young until they are developed enough to fly from the nest.brbrThese two babies are as fluffy and soft looking as a plush toy, but they will soon have flight feathers and wings strong enough to carry them. The parents bring them rabbit or other meals several times per day. The owlets will make a clumsy descent to the ground very soon and the parents will continue to feed them and to encourage them to fly. Within a day or two, they will be capable of lifting off the ground and finding a safer perch where they will watch and learn from the parents' hunting behaviour.brbrOwls are protective of their young and any predators will have a hard time if they try to eat the babies while the parents are nearby. Even mid-sized mammals would not be a match for an angry great horned owl's talons or razor sharp beak. As with most owls, they are capable of near soundless flight. Their feathers are specially designed to make no noise, enabling them to attack without warning.brbrThese owls are one of the most iconic and beautiful of all the owl family. Their characteristic hoot and yellow eyes make them one of the most popular owls among nature lovers.

Disney's Cruella | Official Trailer 2021
Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.
Disney’s “Cruella” is directed by Craig Gillespie (“I Tonya”) from a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis. It was produced by Andrew Gunn (“Freaky Friday”), Marc Platt (“Mary Poppins Returns”) and Kristin Burr (“Christopher Robin”), with Emma Stone, Michelle Wright, Jared LeBoff and Glenn Close serving as executive producers. Two-time Oscar®- winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “A Room with a View”) creates the dazzling and imaginative costumes, which take on a life of their own.
