The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 15 - Hormones are not that difficult.
The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 15 - Hormones are not that difficult, and here are some easy and critical takeaways.
While working with my patients on their wellness journey, hormones are some of the most critical and least understood components necessary for a healthy lifestyle.
Thanks for listening, and Chalmers Wellness has some great information through podcasts, interviews, and my research rolling out in the next few months.
The following is an automated transcript and may be edited for grammar, and please listen to the podcast for exact verbiage.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:10] So I talk a lot about hormones the more I work with hormones, the more I see stuff that other doctors have done, the more irritated I get Hormones aren't that hard. They're just really not that hard. I get it. Some of the stuff that I talk about is kind of difficult, and I understand why docs don't get hormones are pretty easy it's like flipping switches.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:31] When people draw TSA age and they they look at it, they know where TSA is good so your your thyroid is good. I understand that the T and TSA stands for thyroid. However, if you understand that the s stands for stimulating. Then you understand that the way this works is that this is a hormone that works on the Thyroid it's not a thyroid hormone it's a brain hormone, the entire pituitary it tells the thyroid to do stuff.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:01] So what you're actually saying is that your brain is doing a good job telling the thyroid to do something. You have to look at T3 T4 at least I if you want to pull the reverse T3 T4 fantastic. There's other things support for thyroid, but you have to pull T3 T4 to say anything about the thyroid. And in fact you can't even really tell if rts h is where it's supposed to be without T3 to T4.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:23] Because what's supposed to happen is that if you have too much T3 your brain goes, Ooh. We looked at the body and saw we have too much T3 we're going to make a lot less or No TSH So that your, your Thyroid will then make less T3.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:38] If your T3 is low we should see high T3 I would tie TSH That's what we should see so that we go, Oh, look, the problems of the Thyroid, you're not producing any any T3. But without the T3T4 you can't, you can't figure out any of this stuff so you've got to pull all three.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:56] Testosterone is fantastic for women. It is fantastic for men. Men need a lot more. Usually about ten times more. You get a woman with 100 testosterone levels that's that's great. Guy with a thousand that's great so that's where your ten times more comes from.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:02:12] Estrogen is not super important for guys you can keep it down then you know, most people can keep it in the 15 to 30 range and as men and they're great. It is really important for women who are trying to have a baby or trying to breastfeed. If they're not trying to have a baby, they need very little as long as they don't have vaginal dryness or hot flushes, night sweats, they've got plenty.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:02:41] I don't care if it's 20 if you pull up your your your hormones and you're like your estrogen is 20. If you ask the woman, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, she goes, No, I'm great. I don't have any of that stuff then she's fine.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:02:55] Because again the way hormones work is that the hormones activate receptor sites guess what? Other stuff activates those receptor sites too. Like BPA, Soy, lots of all those plant sufferers like we should eat more plants. Yeah, you're flooding the body with estrogens and a lot of those a lot of those chemicals are energy based so that which is problematic.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:03:19] The problem is, is that you can't see how many receptors you have. So you can only see how many, how much hormone you have. So the analogy I use for this and this one is not great. I'm hoping to come up with some better from this later.

The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 14 – Standard of Care. What is “Standard?”
There are so many differences of opinions and definitions of the “Standard of Care” that I had to put this podcast episode out. The medical field is one of the largest and most critical job fields in the world. The professionals that dedicate their lives are truly a blessing to everyone impacted by their care and expertise. There are also those in a smaller percentage that are not proficient in their job and cause more harm than good.
Take a few minutes to listen or watch this podcast and send me any questions you may have. I answer any and all questions. Check out the links and email addresses below.

Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:03] Hey, this is Dr. Matt Chalmers and you're listening to the Dr. Chalmers podcast. We'll be covering how the body actually works so we can fix the things no one else can.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:15] So we talk about this a little bit and this is this is going to come up because we've got some stuff coming up and things are going to be talking about. Standard of care is a double-edged sword you know, I'm going to say a lot of negative things about us I want to touch on positive things. But first, not everyone should get to choose how people are cared for. Not all doctors are awesome. Some doctors are much, much better at being technicians than they are being the person who decides with the best treatment plan for someone else.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:43] And so the idea that we figured out, hey, you know, you should give this person this much of this medication per gram weight per kilogram of body weight, and we should do things this way and treat people this way is good. Like at the end of the day, a lot of times it protects people more than it harms. And so I get it. It is it was a great guideline and I think it should be more of a guideline than a hardcore rule.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:13] It becomes problematic when it becomes a hardcore rule, when it's you do it this way and only this way that's when we start having people die. But I think it's a phenomenal example of that we were all told, you can use these two or three drugs have to have they don't breathe right in advance like this is everyone has to run the exact same model the problem was the model was bad.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:34] Now I get it You know, argue about if the model was bad on purpose, I think it was but that's what it is. And again, that's why it's bad, because as a doctor, if you're sitting there looking at somebody and they go, well, here's the standard of care and you look at your like, this makes no sense.

The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 13 - Lifting lighter: Is it an oxymoron?
The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 13 - Lifting lighter: Is it an oxymoron, or can you get more benefits? #lifting #wellness #liftingsolution
There are different schools of thought on lifting, training, and performance. Today, on the podcast I cover some of the differences between heavy, lighter, and form. There are significant health benefits to understanding the difference.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:10] So one of the other things I always try to get my athletes to do anyway was just trying to be healthy, we always talk about lifting lighter. If you go slow and you practice perfect form, you can use a lot lighter weight and still look and feel great and have all those things.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:30] If you're the type of person who has to be the strongest guy in the gym or the strongest woman in the gym, cool knock it out like, that's totally awesome I'm not saying that you shouldn't do that that's fantastic go set your goals and train for them. You train properly, work on, you know, the damage and stuff. I have tons of guys and women who are in that boat and that's fantastic if that's your thing.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:00:51] But if you don't really care about being the strongest person in the room, I don't care at all about that. Drop your weight, you can still look really good, you can still get big, you can still feel awesome and you're going to feel awesome more if you drop your weight.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:07] Because here's the deal Your muscles will grow faster than your ligaments and tendons and your joint well, so what that means is that you can make your muscles strong enough that they'll tear up your ligaments and tendons, and that will destroy your joint. And if you tear your ligaments and tendons and damage your joints, you're going to hurt possibly forever, so keep that in mind.
Dr Matt Chalmers [00:01:28] So if you're like, you know what? Feeling good, looking good and being functional is more important to me than being the strongest guy in the room. Cool. Drop your weight and then increase the amount of time it takes you to lift it. Don't just go like this slow down and curl really slowly, press really slowly, do your flies, do your squats really slowly.

Balancing Life and Coffee EnemasSeason #3, episode 11 - Balancing Life and Coffee Enemas
Okay, I get a lot of flak for this one, but I think it's worth talking about. You're going to die; we're all going to die. Giving up everything that you love and enjoy so that you could maybe get a couple more days or another hour or a couple more years well, that's a call, you're going have to make.
People ask me all the time that, like you drink lots of coffee, isn't coffee bad for you? The amount of coffee I drink is not great for you, but I love coffee. I'd take a lot of supplementations, I do a lot of things to offset it, but I like coffee, so I'm going to drink my coffee.

But having a healthy lifestyle requires getting the toxins out of your system. Detoxing is critical, and one of the best regimens and solution is the coffee enema. Don't laugh, it works and helps clean your system. I have videos that help explain the procedures and the how-to portion. As for the why, listen to the podcast.

The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 11 - What About Dairy?
In this episode of the podcast, I cover a topic that is on the top of moms' minds everywhere. What about Dairy? Commercially produced cow milk has lots of chemicals, and I personally would not touch it. A lot of the problem is what the cows are being fed.
if you can walk into the field and see a cow eating grass with no pesticides, you are probably ok.
Listen to this podcast and let me know your thoughts,
Automated Transcript edited for grammar.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:00:10] All right, Now I want to talk about dairy. We talked about cow meat. We talked about, you know, cows and stuff like that. People always talk about how you should cut dairy out of your diet. Dairy is a giant category; everyone's me says, I don't like what dairy or we're cutting out. Right, Dairy, it's bad for you to make our cow milk? People milk? Goat milk? Sheep milk? Cheeses? What do you? What? What type of dairy are you talking about?
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:00:41] Now, Cow milk has gotten a bad rap, and for lots of good reasons, commercially produced cow milk is terrible for you. It is tons of inflammation. A lot of that milk is I wouldn't even when it comes out of the cow before they chemically mess with it, I wouldn't even touch it.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:00] Because they've got their feed in this corn, these cows, corn, and all sorts of other grains. And that's not what they're supposed to be eating It just it makes that milk, and then the drugs they can put these cows in the number of literal pastures are allowed to be in the milkman, just that partial commercial cow milk in this country not a chance.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:23] If you can find raw milk now, we're talking as well as that stuff you've got to get from the actual farmer. And so you can go out, and you can see all of these are pasture raised and the cows are clean and, you know, raw cow milk is going to, you know, really great I would definitely do that one.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:39] But the big thing is, is the cheeses, you can get a lot of really good clean cheeses, especially the raw cheeses. Lot of different stores Whole Foods carries a bunch of them that are really great for you. Sheep and goat, manchego, I mean, there are tons and tons of really good cheeses out there that fall in the dairy.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:59] Now you have people who are lactose intolerant, people who have dairy allergies, and that's great. Those people shouldn't eat dairy or we should just desensitize them to it so they can be dairy, and that's made by primary but you've got to find somebody like me who can desensitize the terms of the chances that are low.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:02:15] But if you're allergic to suffer, sensitive to it, don't eat it or get decent sized to it. But I'll tell you that dairy is great and I love dairy I eat a lot of dairy I have a lot of my patients dairy I have a lot of my diabetics who like cheese, move over and started eating a lot of dairy, a lot of clean mozzarellas like all those Keto pizzas and stuff like that like there's lots and lots of room for dairy for a lot of people.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:02:42] So it's not just Cow Milk; there's, like I said, lots and lots of other stuff that's come with those things. Make sure you guys are eating clean foods, which is, by the way, clean is different for a lot of different people.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:02:57] You know, nuts and seeds are not bad for some people they're terrible for others. But, you know, dairy is not something we should all just freak out about I mean like all dairy causes inflammation. That's not true. You know, commercially raised American cow milk causes lots of problems, but that is not the entirety of dairy so just a heads up on that one.

In this episode of my Insights to Wellness podcast, I talk about the fats that we intake in our diets. Not only what kind of fats, but how those fats interact with vitamins and your body is critical.
Do you remember the old charts from your elementary school health courses? The food groups in a triangle, and now compare those to the new ones from the government. Both do not tell the true story, but you can see that it has even gotten further away from reality.

The Dr. Chalmers Show season # 9 - Diabetes Treatment - What does Diabetes mean to your health?
I get asked a lot, "Is diabetes treatment really hard in this country?" Well, it's not hard at all. Diabetes for the easiest way to break diabetes down is diabetes, where your body does not properly utilize sugars in insulin. I don't know why this is so hard for so many people to fix it.
If your body doesn't do well with the sugars you're eating, stop eating sugars. , I think Keto is by far the better option for all diabetics.
I know the Medical Doctors have zero ideas of nutrition and not a huge idea of how the body works, and I'm not trying to slam on meds. It's just they're taught a lot on how to use drugs, and they must be taught that because drugs are very important and very dangerous, and we need to know how to use them really well.
If you have too much sugar in your diet and too much sugar in your blood, every single one of your body breaks.
Now, here's the thing on this, if you get into full ketosis where your body will produce sugar on its own, and the sugar it's going to produce for your blood and for your liver.
Detox and reducing reactive oxidative stress is a big piece of it so CoQ10, Methylated B Vitamins, we've got to clean the liver on people a lot, clean the kidneys specifically.
But the first thing we always do is go Keto and that's the by far the biggest change we see in these people. So start with ketosis, Keto for any diabetic issues, that's a big one.

The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 6 - Critical information on Erythritol
The Dr. Chalmers Show Season #3, episode 6 - Critical information on Erythritol artificial sweetener. There is mixed information out in the marketplace. Look at the sources, ask questions and always check out data when looking at your health and wellness.
Go to Pillarsofwellness.com for additional wellness information.
This shows that a diet high in fat and protein and low in sugar with added 5% erythritol water showed a decrease in body fat, lowered white fat, reduced inflammation, improved glucose tolerance, and a host of other beneficial blood changes.

Consumption of erythritol is heart and blood vessel protective. Reducing rigidity, fibrosis, and increasing dilation of extremities and capillaries.

This shows the PPP or the pentose phosphate pathway. This pathway is from the metabolism of glucose and it doesn't really do good things. It feeds cancer and a host of other inflammatory, weight-gaining issues. The thing is that through this pathway, your body naturally turns sugar into erythritol.

Chalmers Wellness Insights Podcast #12 One of the biggest questions is "How do I not get fat?"
You know that all Holidays have one thing in common: and that is overeating and sugar. This includes Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, the 4th of July, or even a family get-together.
Getting fat is not about one bad meal or one good meal. It is about staying away from the wrong chemicals. One of the worst is sugar and alcohol. Plan for the event, work a little more out before, after, and cut your calories down before the event. Moderation is the key, have fun and enjoy your time together.
