The Fox / Traditional Folk Song / Clawhammer Banjo
The Fox is a traditional folk song, I believe it originated from England.
In the intro I set up the song with a story of how the Fox is
trying to run off with farmer John`s old grey Goose.
Will the fox get away or will farmer John get his goose back? Who are you rooting for? The Fox or mother Pitter Patter and farmer John?
We shall find out how it all ends up in this song. I play it on a mountain banjo
in the clawhammer style.
The Fox - lyrics
traditional folk song (Roud 131) from England.
Banjo Tuning - gDGBD (relative) I`m tuned much lower. Down to D
The fox went out on a hunt one night,
he prayed to the Moon to give him light,
for he'd many a mile to go that night
before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o,
he had many a mile to go that night
before he reached the town-o.
He ran till he came to a great big bin
where the ducks and the geese were put therein.
(He said) A couple of you will grease my chin
before I leave this town-o, town-o, town-o,
a couple of you will grease my chin
before I leave this town-o."
He grabbed the gray goose by the neck,
threw the gray goose behind his back;
he didn't mind their quack, quack, quack,
and their legs all a-dangling down-o, down-o, down-o,
he didn't mind their quack, quack, quack,
and their legs all a-dangling down-o.
Old Mother pitter patter jumped out of bed;
out of the window she cocked her head,
Crying, "John, John! The grey goose is gone
and the fox is on the town-o, town-o, town-o!"
Crying, "John, John, the grey goose is gone
and the fox is on the town-o!"
Then John he went to the top of the hill, (up went John to the top of the hill)
blowed his horn both loud and shrill,
the fox he said, "I'd better flee with my kill
He’ll soon be on my trail-o, trail-o, trail-o."
The fox he said, "I'd better flee with my kill
He’ll soon be on my trail-o."
He ran till he came to his cozy den;
there were the little ones eight, nine, ten.
They said, "Daddy, better go back again,
'cause it must be a mighty fine town-o, town-o, town-o!"
They said, "Daddy, better go back again,
'cause it must be a mighty fine town-o."
Then the fox and his wife without any strife
cut up the goose with a fork and knife.
They never had such a supper in their life
and the little ones chewed on the bones-o, bones-o, bones-o,
they never had such a supper in their life
and the little ones chewed on the bones-o.

Carpenters - Superstar cover by Dan D. Dirges | Bonus Verses!
Superstar was written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell in 1969. Better Midler recorded. Richard Carpenter had heard her performance on the tonight show starring Johnny Carson and he liked the song so the Carpenters recorded it and had a big hit with it. Karen Carpenter needed only one take! I sing and play it on acoustic guitar using a simple fingerpicking pattern. Also I made up two new verses using titles and lyrics from other Carpenters songs. I did a short intro explaining some of the songs history before singing it.
Superstar-lyrics
Carpenters
Long ago, and, oh, so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here, it's just the radio
Don't you remember, you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do
Loneliness is such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again
What to say to make you come again? (Baby)
Come back to me again (baby)
And play your sad guitar
Don't you remember, you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do
(I added another verse using carpenter song titles and lyrics from their other songs)
I`ll say goodbye to love. No one ever cared.
If I should live or die. Life has passed me by.
For all we know, we`ve only just begun
and after rainy days, we`ll be on top of the world
Don't you remember, you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do

The Sky / Derroll Adams / Banjo cover
The Sky is a song written by, Derroll Adams. The Mountain, The Valley, Portland Town and Memories are other great songs that he wrote. In the intro and long outro I talk a little about Derroll Adams. Alan Taylor and Seth Mountain have done excellent covers of this song. This is my cover of one his Derrolls incredible song, The Sky. Performed clawhammer style on the mountain banjo.
The Sky - lyrics
Words and music by Derroll Adams
Performed by Dan D. Dirges
Banjo Tuning - dGEGB
There’s a time when the truth is bad
And that’s so very sad I know
When I was a kid like a mother’s sigh
I used to hear the freight trains cry
They kept me on the go you know
Even now I stop to hear
The big freight trucks a-shifting gear
They tell me what I want to know you know
There’s a time when the past is past
Filled with things that never last I know
The freight trains’ lonesome whistles cry
Becomes a song but there’s the sky
Spring always comes again again
That old car it was Christmas time
Filled with kids and they all were crying
They had no place to go I know I know
There’s a time when you face your soul
To find if you are true and whole you know
I remember your face so clear
Sometimes it seems I hear
The softness of your sigh
But I remember another time
Autumn’s here and summer’s dying
You asked me not to go
There’s a time when you face the sky
To find if you are here and why you know
The freight trains far away cry
Or on the ground when the dew’s not dry
And you hear a rooster crow
Just like a morning star
That you see so far
Through the clear sky the sky

Aragon Mill / Si Kahn / Banjo cover version
Aragon Mill is a song written by Si Kahn
At the east end of town, at the foot of the hill
Stands a chimney so tall that says "Aragon Mill."
But there's no smoke at all coming out of the stack.
Cause the mill has shut down and it ain't a-coming back.
Chorus: And the only tune I hear,
Is the sound of the wind,
As it flows through the town,
Weave and spin, weave and spin
Now I`m too old to change and I`m too young to die.
And there`s no place to go for my old man and I.
There`s no children at all in the narrow empty streets.
Now the loons have all gone, it`s so quiet I can`t sleep.
Chorus: And the only tune I hear,
Is the sound of the wind,
As it flows through the town,
Weave and spin, weave and spin
Now the mill has shut down. It`s the only life I know.
Tell me where will I go, tell me where will I go.
Now I`m too old to change and I`m too young to die.
And there`s no place to go for my old man and I.
Chorus: And the only tune I hear,
Is the sound of the wind,
As it flows through the town,
Weave and spin, weave and spin

Clawhammer Banjo Lesson / The Secrets!
In this how to play Clawhammer Banjo lesson video I will reveal not one but two big secrets!
These two amazing secrets were GE game changers when I was learning how to play Clawhammer Banjo and I know they will help you too! (to?)
The Secret # 1 - Really bend your index finger when you are striking the string for the `Boom` part in Boom Chick-a (about 45 degrees or so)
The Secret # 2 - Use your middle and or ring finger if you are struggling for the `chick` part in Boom Chick-a (just like index lead banjo players do; like Pete Seeger and Derroll Adams)
As a bonus I explain Bump-a Ditty or some call it Boom-a-Chick-a rhythm.
I prefer to call it, Cock-a-Doodle-Do

Ezekiel Saw The Wheel / Traditional / Guitar
Ezekiel Saw The Wheel is a traditional folk song and spiritual that I play on the guitar, fingerpicking style. I hope to get around to posting a better banjo version some day.
Ezekiel Saw a Wheel - lyrics
Ezekiel saw a wheel, Way up in the middle of the air
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of the air
Little wheel run by faith,
Big wheel run by the grace of God
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of the air
Some go to church for to sing and shout,
way in the middle of the air,
Before six months they’s shouted out,
way in the middle of the air,
Ezekiel saw a wheel, Way up in the middle of the air
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of the air
Little wheel run by faith,
Big wheel run by the grace of God
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of theair
Let me tell you what a hypocrite’ll do
way in the middle of the air,
He’ll talk about me and he’ll talk about you,
way in the middle of the air,
Ezekiel saw a wheel, Way up in the middle of the air
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of the air
Little wheel run by faith,
Big wheel run by the grace of God
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of theair
Don’t pray for things that you don’t need
way in the middle of the air,
The Lord don’t like no sin and greed
way in the middle of the air,
Ezekiel saw a wheel, Way up in the middle of the air
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of the air
Little wheel run by faith,
Big wheel run by the grace of God
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of theair
One of these days about twelve o’clock
way in the middle of the air,
This old world’s gonna reel and rock,
way in the middle of the air,
Ezekiel saw a wheel, Way up in the middle of the air
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of the air
Little wheel run by faith,
Big wheel run by the grace of God
Ezekiel saw a wheel Way in the middle of the air

Five Little Ducks | Traditional Folk Song | Banjo
Five Little Ducks is a traditional children`s folk song for of all ages. I sing and play it on the mountain banjo in the clawhammer style and give a short heartwarming moral to the story at the end.
Five Little Ducks lyrics
Five little ducks went swimming one day,
Over the hills and far away.
Mommy duck said: "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
But only four little ducks came back.
Four little ducks went swimming one day,
Over the hills and far away.
Mommy duck said: "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
But only three little ducks came back.
Three little ducks went swimming one day,
Over the hills and far away.
Mommy duck said: "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
But only two little ducks came back.
Two little ducks went swimming one day,
Over the hills and far away.
Mommy duck said: "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
But only one little duck came back.
One little duck went swimming one day,
Over the hills and far away.
Mommy duck said: "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
But no little ducks came swimming back.
No little ducks went swimming one day,
Over the hills and far away.
Daddy duck said: "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
And all the five little ducks came back.

My Old Kentucky Home - Stephen Foster - Banjo
My Old Kentucky Home is song written by Stephen Foster. I sing and play it on a mountain banjo, two finger thumb lead with no thumb pick! I usually use a thumb pick because it`s easier for me to play with one but I have always liked the sound of no picks at all much better, but it`s a totally different feel for me but I think It`s finally coming around a little. There are many different interpretations of the meaning of this song and Stephen Foster has wrongly and cruelly been labelled a racist by many in the old time music community however if you just read the lyrics it`s easy to see he has compassion and empathy for the people leaving the cabin home whether the`re slaves or a family or both. This song is also sung every year at the start of the Kentucky Derby horse race.
My Old Kentucky Home lyrics
Stephen Foster
Banjo in relative standard G tuning but tuned down to low C.
Oh, the sun shines bright
On my old Kentucky home
'Tis summer,
The old folks are gay
Well, the corn top's ripe
And the meadow's in the bloom
While the birds make music
All the day
Weep no more, my lady
Oh, weep no more, today
We will sing one song
For my old Kentucky home
For my old Kentucky home
Far away.
Well, the young folks roll
All around the cabin floor
They're merry, all
Happy and bright
By 'n by hard times will
A-come a-knockin' at my door
Then my old Kentucky home
Good night
Weep no more, my lady
No, weep no more, today
We will sing one song
For my old Kentucky home
For my old Kentucky home
Far away.
They hunt no more for the possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by the old cabin door.
The day goes by like a shadow o’er the heart,
With sorrow, where all was delight,
The time has come when we will have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
Weep no more, my lady
Oh, weep no more, today
We will sing one song
For my old Kentucky home
For my old Kentucky home
Far away.

What Wondrous Love Is This - Spiritual Hymm - Banjo
What Wondrous Love Is this is a sacred hymm and spiritual normally sung accapella in church choirs the world over. The song witnesses the beautiful mysterious sacrifice Jesus freely gave to all humankind. Daughter Of Swords does a brilliant solo performance of this song. I`ve become a big fan of her music since seeing her perform on Paste Magazine here on YouTube. I worked up this banjo arrangement which follows the melody line along while I sing. Mountain Banjo played in the two finger thumb lead style. If you care to sing along I added the lyrics below.
What Wondrous Love Is the - lyrics
Banjo tuned to fDGCD (relative)
1 What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul?
What wondrous love is this, O my soul?
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul?
2 When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
when I was sinking down, sinking down,
when I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul.
3 To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing,
to God and to the Lamb I will sing,
to God and to the Lamb who is the great I Am,
while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
while millions join the theme, I will sing.
4 And when from death I’m free I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
and when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on,
and when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be,
and through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
and through eternity I’ll sing on.

Man Of Constant Sorrow - Mountain Banjo - Folk Song
Man Of Constant Sorrow is an old time traditional folk song that I sing and play on the banjo in the clawhammer style. This song was featured in the Coen Brothers movie, Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Ralph Stanley is well known for this song as well as many other bluegrass artists. There is a Greenwich Village version which Bob Dylan and many others played that has a different melody. I have had a few requests for this song over the years. I didnt really know which version to sing or how to approach the song until I heard the Josh Turknett (ClawhammerBrainjo) version. I`m a big fan of his music, the songs he chooses to sing and how he performs and sings them. I tried to play it kind of like how he did. Here is the link if you want to have a listen to his version. (BTW if you want to learn how to play banjo he is the best to learn from)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOZuXz__3NE
Man Of Constant Sorrow lyrics
Banjo in standard tuning only a lot lower
I am a man of constant sorrow,
I've seen trouble all my day.
I bid farewell to old Kentucky,
The place where I was born and raised.
For six long years I've been in trouble,
No pleasures here on earth I found.
For in this world I'm bound to ramble,
I have no friends to help me now.
It's fare thee well my old lover.
I never expect to see you again.
For I'm bound to ride that northern railroad,
Perhaps I'll die upon this train.
You can bury me in some deep valley, (dark holler?)
For many years where I may lay.
Then you may learn to love another,
While I am sleeping in my grave.
Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger
My face, you'll never see no more.
But there is one promise that is given
I'll meet you on God's golden shore.

Tripping Over You - Jim Page Song - Cover
Jim Page is a singer and songwriter from Seattle and he wrote this great song, Tripping Over You. I like it so much I wanted to sing and play it on guitar fingerpicking style. You can hear more songs from Jim at his website

Tripping Over You lyrics
Written By Jim Page
Performed by Dan D. Dirges
Night time when the sun goes down
And there aint nobody else around
I take a chance and I go downtown
Down the avenue
Flashing through those neon nights
Those excitable city sites
A thousand and one Arabian nights
And always coming true
I can see the strangers faces
Beckoning me into stranger places
Fantasies and outer spaces
Visions in my view
Temptations for the lonely ones
I take their comforts on the run
And I find myself among
Them only passing through
chorus
I cant get you off of my mind
This time, no it`s all too true
I keep hanging onto the same old line
Just like a blind man would do
Tripping over you
All my advisors say
you cant hold on anyway
Tomorrow is another day
And everday is new
But I can hear my heartbeat say
Tomorrow is so far away
And I`m still stuck here in today
So what am I supposed to do
chorus
I cant get you off of my mind
This time, no it`s all too true
I keep hanging onto the same old line
Just like a blind man would do
Tripping over you
Now I`m headed for the golden gate
Riding on the hands of fate
Soon enough comes too late
And life is overdue
It`s coming to that time again
Could be trouble around the bend
And I just wanted you to be my friend
And I would be yours too
chorus
I cant get you off of my mind
This time, no it`s all too true
I keep hanging onto the same old line
Just like a blind man would do
Tripping over you

Soon May The Wellerman Come - Guitar - Sea Shanty
Soon May the Wellerman come is a sea shanty. It`s also known as The Wellerman or just Wellerman. The captain crew and all are out hunting the whale. This one is packed full of action, adventure and suspense! Will the whale be caught? I play here on the guitar in the fingerpicking style while singing it. I have a banjo version posted as well
Soon May the Wellerman Come - lyrics
Fingerpicking guitar version
There once was a ship that put to sea,
And the name of the ship was the Billy of Tea
The winds blew up, her bow dipped low,
Oh blow, my bully boys, blow.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
She had not been two weeks from shore
When down on her right a whale bore.
The captain called all hands and swore
He'd take that whale in tow.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
Before the boat had hit the water
The whale's tail came up and caught her.
All hands to the side harpooned and fought her
When she dived down below.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
No line was cut, no whale was freed;
The Captain's mind was not of greed,
But he belonged to the whaleman's creed;
She took the ship in tow.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
For forty days, or even more,
The line went slack, then tight once more.
All boats were lost, there were only four
But still the whale did go.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
As far as I've heard, the fight's still on;
The line's not cut and the whale's not gone.
The Wellerman makes his regular call
To encourage the Captain, crew, and all.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.

Dawn Of Time / original song / Mountain Banjo / Two Finger Thumb Lead version
Dawn Of Time
Written and performed by
Dan D. Dirges
Roll on river, roll on river far and wide,
roll on from the dawn of time, freely to the sea,
into eternity, all the way to the sea, into eternity
There is a mountain, rising up above the clouds,
majestic and standing proud, it surely can be moved,
if we just believe, it surely will be moved, if we just believe
Weary traveler, travels by an ancient road, everyone`s gone down before
since the dawn of time, searching for the answers, to life`s many questions,
since the dawn of time
By the moonlight, a lonesome train is on its way, searching for the break of day,
Its a long way home, with miles and miles to go, and when it reaches home,
soon its on its way
Blow winds blow, to all corners of the earth, lift all voices to be heard,
There`s so many questions, to which will come the answers, and when we find the
answers, all the questions change

Undone In Sorrow - Banjo - Folk Song -Ola Belle Reed - cover
Undone In Sorrow is a folk song written by Ola Belle Reed. It`s a beautiful broken hearted love song. I give a description and tell a little story about the song and then I sing and play it on the banjo, clawhammer style. So many great covers on YouTube. ClawhammerBrainjo, Riley Baugus and many others. Clifton Hicks has a banjo lesson posted on his channel.
Undone in sorrow - lyrics
Written by Ola Belle Reed
Banjo tuning fDGCD relative
Over yonder in the graveyard
Where the wild, wild flowers grow
There they lay my true lover
She's gone from me forever more
Fairest than the sweetest flower
Restless as the wildest wind
Born with a love deep as the ocean
This was the girl that I did win
Left her there back in the mountains
To see the world, riches to gain
when I returned no earthly treasures
Could ease this heart so full of pain
Way up high upon that mountain
Beneath that little mound of clay
Oh, the girl that I returned to marry
So still among the flowers she lay
I'll go away and I will wander
Lay aside my earthly gain
I'll not end, as a man with riches
Undone in sorrow I remain
Undone in sorrow I remain

Do You Hear What I Hear / Christmas Carol / Guitar and Vocal
Do You Hear What I Hear is a Christmas Carol which has been performed by Bing Crosby, Whitney Houston and many others. Hear I play a simple guitar and vocal cover. Fingerpickning guitar. I posted the lyrics in the video in case you want to sing along.
Do You Hear What I Hear lyrics
Said the night wind to the little lamb:
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite"
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy:
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea"
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king:
"Do you know what I know?"
In your palace warm, mighty king
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold"
Said the king to the people everywhere:
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people everywhere!
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light"

Going Across the Sea - Traditional Folk Song - Mountain Banjo
Going Across The Sea is a old time traditional folk song that I sing and play on the mountain banjo, clawhammer style after a short intro. The unfinished woodcarving you see is one I recently did. It appears to move on it`s own toward the end of the video because one of my Cats was rubbing up against the table.
Going Across The Sea - lyrics
Clawhammer banjo in standard tuning only a lot lower.
I’m going across the sea stay forever more
Left my little darlin’ standing in the door
Won’t you come and go come and go with me
Fly to me my pretty little Miss I’m going across the sea
Wind is howling low wind is howling high
Come with me my pretty little love ’til the day I die.
Won’t you come and go come and go with me
Fly to me my pretty little Miss I’m going across the sea.
Wouldn’t you give a nickel wouldn’t you give a dime
Wouldn’t you give one dollar bill to call your name as mine?
Won’t you come and go come and go with me
Fly to me my pretty little Miss I’m going across the sea.
Dinah oh dear Dinah what makes your face so red
Working out in the crops sun fever in my head
Won’t you come and go come and go with me
Fly to me my pretty little Miss I’m going across the sea.

900 Miles / Traditional Folk Song / Banjo
900 Miles is a traditional folk song. Also known as, 900 Miles From My Home. I sing and play it on the banjo in the clawhammer style after the intro.
900 Miles - Lyrics
Banjo tuning - dADFsharpA
Hold down Em chord
I’m walking down the track, I’ve got tears in my eyes,
I’m tryin’ to read a letter from my home;
If that train runs me right, I’ll be home tomorrow night,
‘Cause I’m nine hundred miles from my home.
And I hate to hear that lonesome whistle blow,
That long lonesome train whistlin’ down.
Well this train I ride on, Is a hundred coaches long,
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles;
And if this train runs me right, I’ll be home tomorrow night,
‘Cause I’m nine hundred miles from my home.
And I hate to hear that lonesome whistle blow,
I will pawn you my wagon, I will pawn you my team,
I will pawn you my golden watch and my chain;
And if this train runs me right, I’ll see my woman tomorrow night,
‘Cause I’m nine hundred miles from my home.
And I hate to hear that lonesome whistle blow.

Wild Rose Of The Mountain | Si Kahn | Banjo cover
Wild Rose Of The Mountain is a song written by Si Kahn. I talk a little about Si Kahn in the intro then sing and play the song on the banjo in the clawhammer style. I first heard this song on Ryan Spearman`s channel (Play Better Banjo) earlier this past Summer and was blown away by the song and how he sang and played it. I highly recommmend his channel. I`ll be taking a deep dive in Si Kahn`s catelog as I am a newcomer to his music.
WILD ROSE OF THE MOUNTA - LYRICS
Written by - Si Kahn
Performed by - Dan D. Dirges
Banjo tuning - dGB
If I had my life to live, I'd sure live it over.
Only walk in brand new shoes and just lay down in clover.
Only work on Christmas Day. All the rest go sportin'.
Spend my days down at the creek, and ev'ry night go courtin'.
Cho: Honey from the honey comb, water from the fountain.
Sugar from the sugar cane and my wild rose of the mountain.
When I think of home sweet home, it makes my eyes grow misty.
Poppa singing gospel songs and Momma sippin' whiskey.
Whiskey from a white oak barrel sure does make good liquor.
Makes the nights seem twice as bright and the days go by much quicker.
If I had a pickup truck, I'd fill it up with water.
Paint a catfish on the side and make believe I'd caught her.
Drive it slowly down the road, try to keep from bumpin'.
Park it down beside the creek and watch those fish come jumpin'.
If I had a new-made quilt, I'd fill it up with feathers.
Take my Rosie by the hand and lay down there together.
Oh, the days that I was young! Thoughts that keep returning
Drive the winter night away just like a log fire burning.

Good King Wenceslas / Christmas Song / Guitar and Vocal
Good King Wenceslas is a Christmas carol that tells the story of how the kind king invites a poor homeless person into his castle for dinner. I sing and play it on guitar, fingerpicking style in drop D tuning this time.
Good King Wenceslas - lyrics
Guitar in drop D tuning
Chords: D G D G Bm D G D Bm Asus G D
Arranged and performed by
Dan D. Dirges
Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about,
Deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Though the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Gathering winter fuel.
"Hither, page, and stand by me.
If thou know it telling:
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?"
"Sire, he lives a good league hence,
Underneath the mountain,
Right against the forest fence
By Saint Agnes fountain."
"Bring me flesh, and bring me wine.
Bring me pine logs hither.
Thou and I will see him dine
When we bear the thither."
Page and monarch, forth they went,
Forth they went together
Through the rude wind's wild lament
And the bitter weather.
"Sire, the night is darker now,
And the wind blows stronger.
Fails my heart, I know not how.
I can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps my good page,
Tread thou in them boldly:
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly."
In his master's step he trod,
Where the snow lay dented.
Heat was in the very sod
Which the saint had printed.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
Wealth or rank possessing,
Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing.

The Fox / Traditional Folk Song / Banjo
The Fox is a traditional folk song, I believe it`s from England.
In the intro I set up the song with a story of how the Fox is
trying to run off with farmer John`s old grey Goose.
Will the fox get away or will farmer John get his goose back. Who are you rooting for? The Fox or the farmer?
We shall find out in this song.
He grabbed the gray goose by the neck,
threw the gray goose behind his back;
he didn't mind their quack, quack, quack,
and their legs all a-dangling down-o, down-o, down-o,
he didn't mind their quack, quack, quack,
and their legs all a-dangling down-o.
Old Mother pitter patter jumped out of bed;
out of the window she cocked her head,
Crying, "John, John!
He ran till he came to his cozy den;
there were the little ones eight, nine, ten.
