Carpenters - Superstar cover by Dan D. Dirges | Bonus Verses!

Superstar was written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell in 1969. Better Midler recorded. Richard Carpenter had heard her performance on the tonight show starring Johnny Carson and he liked the song so the Carpenters recorded it and had a big hit with it. Karen Carpenter needed only one take! I sing and play it on acoustic guitar using a simple fingerpicking pattern. Also I made up two new verses using titles and lyrics from other Carpenters songs. I did a short intro explaining some of the songs history before singing it.

Superstar-lyrics
Carpenters

Long ago, and, oh, so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here, it's just the radio

Don't you remember, you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do

Loneliness is such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again
What to say to make you come again? (Baby)
Come back to me again (baby)
And play your sad guitar

Don't you remember, you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do

(I added another verse using carpenter song titles and lyrics from their other songs)
I`ll say goodbye to love. No one ever cared.
If I should live or die. Life has passed me by.
For all we know, we`ve only just begun
and after rainy days, we`ll be on top of the world

Don't you remember, you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do
