Putin accusing America Washington of trying to prolong war in Ukraine
Putin accusing America Washington of trying to prolong war in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday accused Washington of seeking to prolong the conflict in Ukraine and of fueling conflicts elsewhere in the world, including with the visit of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
'The situation in Ukraine shows that the US is trying to prolong this conflict. And they act in exactly the same way, fueling the potential for conflict in Asia, Africa and Latin America,' Putin said in televised remarks, addressing the opening ceremony of a security conference in Moscow via video link.
The Russian tyrant - who ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24 - was delivering the welcome address at the Moscow international security conference.
He said Pelosi's visit was a 'brazen demonstration of disrespect for the sovereignty of other countries and for its (Washington's) international obligations'.
'We see this as a carefully planned provocation,' Putin said.
As it enters its sixth month, Moscow's military intervention in Ukraine has killed thousands, forced millions to flee their homes and exacerbated food shortages across the world.
Speaking at the security conference, Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Moscow does not plan to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
'From a military point of view, there is no need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine to achieve the set goals,' Shoigu said.

Insane waterspout sighted off Florida coast
The National Weather Service issued a special marine warning shortly after the waterspout was sighted, urging boaters and swimmers to stay out of the water.
This waterspout is the fifth reported in Florida's Panhandle area this summer, but data is lacking on these weather phenomena and experts are not sure how often they typically occur.
Another waterspout formed earlier this month in Maryland that was much more destructive than what was observed in Florida.
The funnel swept across Smith Island in the Chesapeake Bay on August 5, demolishing several houses and injuring one person.
Images circulating on social media show the disastrous aftermath on Smith Island, with homes completely destroyed and debris sprawled around the ruins of properties.
Two others also in the 51-second clip shout out, 'Where are the kids?' as the waterspout goes up the bank and makes its way further onto land.
The mother-of-two reassures the others that her children were inside.
'Also several shanties were destroyed as well as a boat flipped over,' Daniel Somers told Chesapeake Bay magazine.

Russian unveiled 'new' robot dog armed with grenade launcher at arms fair
'Designers' claim it can hunt tanks, as well as performing patrol and guard tasks
But experts think the robot is actually a Chinese-made 'home helper' robot
Go1 dog-bot is designed to follow a human around, can only carry light loads, cannot traverse rough terrain and has a battery that lasts as little as 30 minute
At first glance it seems to be a terrifying vision of the war in the future: A robotic attack dog, armed with grenade launcher, designed to hunt and kill tanks.
But upon closer inspection the new 'weapon', unveiled at Russia's Army-2022 defence exposition in Moscow, actually appears to be a Chinese 'home helper' that anyone can buy online for as little as £2,500.
Far from blowing up heavily armoured vehicles, the dog is actually designed to follow a human companion around like a pet, carrying relatively-light loads of up to 7lbs - or roughly the weight of an unloaded grenade launcher.

Elon Musk says Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot will eventually cost 'less than a car'
Elon Musk says Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot will eventually cost 'less than a car'
Elon Musk shared new details about Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot - including information about the cost and likely uses for it - in an essay published online.
The robot, which is intended for industrial and domestic uses, will debut at AI Day September 30 after first being announced at AI Day in August 2021.'Tesla Bots are initially positioned to replace people in repetitive, boring, and dangerous tasks. But the vision is for them to serve millions of households, such as cooking, mowing lawns, and caring for the elderly,' Musk wrote in the essay published in China Cyberspace magazine.
The mogul explained that the android, which will have human-like limbs and features, was deliberately designed that way.
'The Tesla Bot is close to the height and weight of an adult, can carry or pick up heavy objects, walk fast in small steps, and the screen on its face is an interactive interface for communication with people.
'You may wonder why we designed this robot with legs. Because human society is based on the interaction of a bipedal humanoid with two arms and ten fingers.
'So if we want a robot to adapt to its environment and be able to do what humans do, it has to be roughly the same size, shape, and capabilities as a human,' Musk explained.
The CEO confirmed that he's planning to focus on improving the bot's intelligence and solving the problem of large-scale production after revealing a prototype next month.
'Thereafter, humanoid robots’ usefulness will increase yearly as production scales up and costs fall. In the future, a home robot may be cheaper than a car. Perhaps in less than a decade, people will be able to buy a robot for their parents as a birthday gift,' he said.
What do we know about Tesla Optimus?
Originally called Tesla Bot, Elon Musk announced the humanoid robot at AI Day in August 2021
The robot would stand 5'8 and weigh 125 pounds
It will move at 5 mph, deadlift 125 pounds and carry 45 pounds
Tesla Optimus will have human-like hands and feet and sensors for eyes
The bot will be 'friendly' to humans
Humans will also be able to outrun and overpower the robots if needed
The robot will be able to perform tasks that are repetitive or boring, but could also serve as a companion
Tesla is set to unveil a prototype of the robot September 30 at AI Day
ADVERTISEMENT
The Tesla bot, which would be 5'8 and weigh 125 pounds, is set to include the Autopilot computer used in the company's electric cars, which will allow the humanoid to recognize real-world objects, although the robot will have its own customized sensors and actuators.
It will also be able to 'deadlift' up to 150 pounds, carry 45 pounds, walk 5 miles per hour and have human-like hands plus visual sensors giving it the ability to 'see.'
Tesla's Autopilot cameras will be fitted in the front of the bot's head and its inner-workings will be powered by the company's Full Self-Driving computer. The bots will be apparently operate through Tesla’s Full Self-Driving computer interface, which is what's in the Tesla Model 3, X, S, Y and Roadster.
Previously released renderings have shown that it could end up looking like the 'NS5' robots in the 2004 film I, Robot. But for anyone worried about a Terminator-style situation, Musk tried to set those fears to rest as well.
'It’s intended to be friendly, of course,' Musk said during the initial Tesla Bot announcement last year. 'And navigate through a world built for humans.'
The tech leader said at the initial presentation that humans would be able to outrun and overpower the Tesla Optimus if they needed to.
During a question period following Tesla’s AI Day last year, Musk said: 'We should be worried about AI. What we’re trying to do here at Tesla is make useful AI that people love and is … unequivocally good.'
Robots are already being used for a wide range of tasks in industrial settings by companies including Amazon and Walmart.

China Gigantic Aircraft Carrier Type 003 Fujian
pinyin: Fújiàn Jiàn) or the Type 003 aircraft carrier is a Chinese aircraft carrier under outfitting for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China and named after Fujian province. Fujian was launched on 17 June 2022 and is China’s first aircraft carrier with a fully indigenous design,[8] featuring a CATOBAR system[9] and electromagnetic catapults.[10][11][12]
The Type 003 class was originally unofficially called Type 002 when Shandong, China's then-incomplete second carrier, was believed to be designated Type 001A. Shandong's official designation, Type 002, was revealed during commissioning. Observers hence believed the third carrier will be Type 003.[5]
The Type 003 is expected to use steam turbines and electromagnetic catapults,[10][11][4] whereas preceding Chinese carriers were conventionally powered and launched aircraft with ski jumps.[10][9]
For CNS Fujian's propulsion system, its structure is still not very clear. According to Chinese military commentator Song Zhongping, the system was "integrated electric propulsion" (IEP).[13]
The carrier's size is expected to be between the unfinished 85,000-ton Soviet aircraft carrier Ulyanovsk[14] and the United States Navy's 100,000-ton supercarriers.[15] Early assessment measured the Type 003 at approximately 300 meters (984 ft 3 in) long, roughly the length of the US Navy's Gerald R. Ford-class ships.[16] Renewed assessment indicated that its length was 316 meters and has a flight deck with a width of 76 meters.[17][6][7] Comparisons have also been drawn to the American Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carriers.[18][19] Earlier press reports and Chinese media generally suggested that the ship might have a displacement of around 80,000 tons to 85,000 tons. Later assessment backed by satellite images suggested the displacement was underestimated, and the Type 003 carrier might be closer in displacement to about 100,000 tons.[11][20][21] Analyst Robert Farley believes the Type 003 will be the "largest and most advanced aircraft carrier ever built outside the United States" when completed.[14]
In 2018, Kyle Mizokami predicted the carrier would operate an air group of 40 fighter aircraft, plus propeller-powered transport and airborne early warning and control aircraft.[22]
Development
The Type 003 was originally intended to use steam-powered catapults.[5] In 2013, PLAN Rear Admiral Yin Zhuo said that China's next aircraft carrier would be equipped with an electromagnetic launch system.[23] Multiple prototypes were spotted by media in 2012, and aircraft capable of using the system were tested at naval research facilities.[24] The change to electromagnetic (EM) catapults likely explains the increase in size from previous Chinese carriers.[5]
Construction began in the mid-2010s. The exact date is not known; The National Interest reported March 2015;[25] The Diplomat reported that "initial work" had begun in February 2016, followed by a notice to proceed given to the Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard Group in March 2017.[26] Works were reportedly delayed in June 2017 by electromagnetic and steam catapults tests.[27] By November 2017, the Navy had reportedly developed an IEP system to power electromagnetic catapults, allowing work on the Type 003 to resume.[10][28][29]
The block modules were moved from the manufacturing facility to the staging area in May 2020, and into dry dock in July 2020. Almost all of the keel and base hull blocks were in the dock by early September 2020; the foremost part of the bow was missing. Measurements based on satellite and aerial photography suggested a hull/waterline length of 300 meters - nearly the flight deck length of China's existing carriers - a maximum beam of 40 meters (131 ft 3 in), and a displacement of more than 85,000 tonnes (84,000 long tons).[5] In mid-2020, anonymous Chinese sources projected a launch in the first half of 2022.[11] In September 2020, Rick Joe of The Diplomat projected a launch in mid-2022 at the earliest.[5]
In July 2021, satellite pictures showed that construction was moving ahead, with key elements such as the superstructure and three catapult launch systems being added to the hull.[30][17] On 10 November, Bloomberg reported that "China is three to six months away from launching its third aircraft carrier", citing a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.[31]
The aircraft carrier, named Fujian, was launched with the hull number 18 on 17 June 2022.[32] This name received scrutiny in Western media as its namesake Fujian province is located opposite Taiwan across the strait.[33][34][35] However, a PLA Navy spokesperson explained that Chinese aircraft carriers are named after provinces, as per PLAN vessel naming regulations. Previous Chinese aircraft carriers, Liaoning and Shandong, are also named after provinces of China.[36]

HIMARS: The new U.S. rocket launchers in Ukraine
HIMARS: The new U.S. rocket launchers in Ukraine
The Ukrainians have a new weapon to sing about. Taras Borovok, the Ukrainian soldier who previously penned a viral musical tribute to the Turkish-supplied Bayraktar drone, recently released a new song paying tribute to the American supplied High-Mobility Advanced Rocket System — better known by its now-famous acronym.
“HIMARS! Our trusted ally from America is here. Do you want to meet him?” goes the catchy jingle shared last week on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian armed forces’ general staff.
Even by the standards of this social-media saturated war, the HIMARS is getting a lot of hype. A month ago, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov tweeted, “HIMARS have arrived to Ukraine. Thank you to my colleague and friend @SecDef [Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III] for these powerful tools! Summer will be hot for the Russian occupiers. And the last one for some of them.”
So far, Reznikov’s excitement seems justified. Rockets fired from HIMARS have struck more than 30 Russian targets behind enemy lines in Ukraine, including ammunition depots and command and control posts. By all accounts, they’ve thrown Russian logistics into disarray and are slowing the Russian military’s advance in eastern Ukraine. The governor of war-torn Luhansk province has described the Russians as in “panic mode” over the HIMARS’ capabilities. One sign that the hype may be true: Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered his forces to prioritize destroying them.
In recent days, Ukraine used HIMARS to strike a key bridge used by Russian forces to resupply the occupied city of Kherson in southern Ukraine. The strike was likely part of preparations for an upcoming offensive to retake the city, which was captured by the Russians in the early days of the war.
The U.S. has already sent 12 HIMARS to Ukraine, and Austin announced on Wednesday that four more are on the way. The U.K. has also sent three M270 artillery launchers — an older but compatible model — and Germany has committed several as well. The system has emerged as something of a litmus test for Western support for Ukraine. In a recent Washington Post column, defense columnist Max Boot argued that if the Biden administration were serious about shortening the war, it would “send 60 HIMARS to Ukraine.”
Part of the reason for all the HIMARS enthusiasm is that they’ve provided the first reasons for battlefield optimism for Ukraine and its allies in quite some time. Since early April, when Russian forces abandoned their ill-fated attempt to take Kyiv in order to focus on the eastern Donbas region, they’ve been making slow but steady progress, in large part because of their overwhelming advantage in heavy artillery. The arrival of the HIMARS is the first sign the balance in artillery may be shifting in Ukraine’s favor.
How much of a wonder weapon is the HIMARS? And might it really the turn the tide of the war?
What is a HIMARS?
The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System is more or less what it sounds like: A platform loaded with multiple rockets that can be fired in short succession. The HIMARS is a particularly sophisticated version, each carrying either one-half dozen guided rockets with a range of around 40 miles, or a single Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), which has a range of almost 200 miles. By contrast, the M777 howitzer cannon, one of the most advanced U.S. artillery pieces on the battlefield in Ukraine, has a range of less than 20 miles.

Lockheed’s F-35s Get a Flawed $14 Billion Software Upgrade
Lockheed’s F-35s Get a Flawed $14 Billion Software Upgrade
A $14 billion Pentagon software upgrade for F-35 jets is being installed on planes that are already deployed even though it’s “immature, deficient and insufficiently tested,” according to a new assessment by the military’s testing office.
Aircraft operators “identified deficiencies in weapons, fusion, communications and navigation, cybersecurity and targeting processes that required software modification and additional time and resources, which caused delays,” according to the 13-page assessment in the testing office’s annual report, which will soon be released.
Built by Lockheed Martin Corp., the F-35 is a flying computer, with more than 8 million lines of computer code, and software needed to increase its capabilities has been marred by problems since deliveries of the upgrades began in 2020.
The Defense Department’s F-35 program office has implemented “process improvements to address software development issues,” according to the assessment.
The F-35 section of the annual report, which has circulated inside the Pentagon for comment, is a combination of unclassified and “controlled, unclassified information.
Laura Seal, spokeswoman for the Defense Department’s F-35 program office, said in a statement that the office “delivers software on a warfighter-relevant timeline and our warfighters decide to take the software based on their review of the benefits of incorporating this software into their fleets.” She said feedback is used “to improve the way we deliver software.”
But the assessment under new Defense Department testing director Nickolas Guertin found that the program office “does not adhere to the published best practices” and has “consistently failed to deliver the capabilities contained in their master schedule.”
Earlier: F-35 Upgrades See Costs Surging by $2 Billion, GAO Says
“The program has not sufficiently funded” teams to “adequately test, analyze data or perform comprehensive” check-up analysis “to assure that unintentional deficiencies are not embedded in the software prior to delivery,” the testing office added in the assessment. As a result, the current process has resulted in frequent “discoveries of critical warfighting deficiencies after fielding to the combat units.”
Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed has delivered more than 750 of a potential 3,300 jets to the U.S. and partners. They are in operation in nine nations, including South Korea, the U.K. and Israel.
The Block 4 software upgrade has a new processor to increase the computing power and memory of the F-35. The upgrade also is intended to allow the fighters to carry new AIM-9X Block II air-to-air missiles, all-weather Small Diameter Bomb II munitions, radar-killing AARGM-ER missiles, several allied-produced bombs and the B-61 nuclear bomb.
It’s not worked out that way so far. “Although designed to introduce new capabilities or fix deficiencies, the process has often introduced stability problems and/or adversely affected” other functions, with operational testing, training and active-duty military units discovering deficiencies, according to the report

China’s Electronic Warfare Drone Is Finally Ready TO FLY
China’s Electronic Warfare Drone Is Finally Ready TO FLY
China’s FH-95 electronic warfare unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) passed a “milestone” test last month, according to state media.
The Aerospace Times Feihong Technology Co (ATFTC)-developed UAV completed a performance test at an unknown test base, state-run Global Times reported, citing Beijing magazine Unmanned Vehicles.
The FH-95 has a takeoff weight of one ton and can carry payloads of more than 250 kilograms (551 pounds).
The aircraft can fly for over 24 hours, performing missions including strike, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare in “highly contested battlefield environments.”
Force-Multiplier
The manufacturer has designed the drone to jam enemy radio, radar, and cellular communications, enabling accompanying UAVs to penetrate and destroy defenses.
Citing ATFTC general manager and researcher Chen Jianguo, Global Times wrote that “drones capable of electronic warfare, reconnaissance, and early warning will become essential in combat as they can conduct remote detection outside the defense area or carry out tactical feints and saturated attacks in coordination with manned aircraft.”
The outlet added that the FH-95 would provide “another dimension” to drone deployment, its electromagnetic warfare capabilities.
Potential Threat to US Military?
The FH-95 is likely to be capable of launching anti-radiation missiles, Janes wrote, adding that the UAV appeared to have been equipped with an FT-8C laser-guided missile, citing images from Russian media.
According to Sandboxx, the drone could pose a threat to the US’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control — which relies on a data network for interconnectivity between different weapons platforms — by jamming the data network that connects different weapon systems from each other.
Especially ominous is the prospect of swarm electronic warfare drones, whereby hordes of small UAVs would saturate an area to disrupt radio, radar, and cellular communications,” the outlet added.
Another Variant Being Tested
The ATFTC — a subsidiary of state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation — first flew the drone in 2017 and delivered it to an unnamed client two years later.
The company received its first export order for the drone in 2021, and a new variant of the drone is being flight tested.
