imbecile' Australian tourists speeding down Grand Canal electric hydrofoils
Two surfers filmed whizzing along Venice's busiest canal
A pair of 'overbearing imbeciles' have sparked fury in Venice by speeding down the city's famous Grand Canal on £20,000 electric hydrofoils.
The two Australians whizzed along the main thoroughfare in the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Site yesterday morning, shocking tourists and locals.
The Italian city's mayor Luigi Brugnaro called for the pair to be punished and even offered a free dinner to anyone who identified them.
He said: 'Here are two overbearing imbeciles who make a mockery of the City.
'I ask everyone to help us identify them to punish them even if our weapons are really blunt... we urgently need more powers to the Mayors in terms of public safety!
'To those who spot them, I offer a dinner!'
In a later tweet, the mayor said: 'Speaking of the two "heroes" of this morning, we have identified them!
The two boards have already been confiscated and soon, without giving further details, those responsible will be in our arms: they will be charged as they deserve!
'Thank you all for your cooperation.'
The pair were fined 3,000 Euros each for endangering the safety of navigation along the canal and were also expelled from the city, local reports said.

Florida alligator killing and eating another gator
Florida woman films giant alligator killing and eating another gator
A Florida woman got frighteningly close up to a moment of alligator cannibalism as she caught one gator eating another in the swamps of a state park.
The video, which she captioned 'Gator eating gator, Silver Springs' showed one alligator slapping another against the water before ripping it into pieces to eat while she recorded from a nearby paddleboard.
It then shows the predator gator rise from the water and begin to toss around the prey before fully chowing down.
Tammy Shaw posted the video to Alligators of Florida, a Facebook group, on August 10 after witnessing the incident on August 4.
Shaw told Yahoo News she was on an inflatable paddleboard about 11 feet in size, one that the attacking gator may have been even larger than.
Shaw summed it up: 'Kind of intense, but super cool to witness'.
She added that the gator being eaten was about five to seven feet long and was certainly smaller.
According to educational site Animal Club, cannibalism among gators is not uncommon, especially between larger and smaller members of the species as a matter of survivalism.
Live Science suggested that somewhere between six and seven percent of baby alligators are killed for food by other gators.
Shaw said that she had to eventually stop filming due to how close she was to the gator after he'd had his meal.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro wrestles with influencer
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro wrestles with influencer
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro got into a wrestling match with social media influencer Wilker Leão outside his home in Brasilia, the country's capital
Bolsonaro was chatting with his supporters when Leão used his cellphone to record himself calling the president 'coward' and 'bum'
The far-right leader stepped from his car, grabbing Leão by the shirt and arm while trying to take his phone away
They then had a conversation for several minutes about legislative proposals before Bolsonaro was driven away
This is the shocking moment Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro got tangled up with a social media influencer and tried to snatch his cellphone away on Thursday.
The far-right leader was speaking to supporters and posing for selfies outside Palácio da Alvorada, the presidential residence in the capital city of Brasilia, when Wilker Leão pushed his way through the crowd and confronted him.
Leão used his phone to film himself, repeatedly shouting at the president, calling him a 'coward,' 'bum' and the 'darling' of a pork-barrel faction in Congress.
Bolsonaro initially entered his car, but then reemerged and grabbed Leão's shirt and forearm while reaching for his phone.
Security guards pulled Leão, a former Army solider away.
The incident underscored possible challenges for the sometimes quick-tempered leader to stay disciplined on the campaign trail.
The presidential campaign that kicked off Tuesday is expected to be an uphill battle for Bolsonaro, who trails former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in all polls ahead of the October 2 first round vote.
A journalist from news website G1 published a video of Leão's comments and the subsequent altercation in which a security guard grabbed the social media figure and tossed him to the ground.
'Don't film this, don't film this,' Bolsonaro told his supporters as Leão was held by presidential security. 'It is his right (to protest), but he was being impolite.'
Four minutes later, security allowed Leão to return to the scene and chat with Bolsonaro.
'You can talk to me as much as you want,' Bolsonaro told Leão. The two spoke for five minutes about plea bargaining, the budget, tax reform and weapon possession until the president decided to go back to his car and leave.
Bolsonaro and Leão had spoken in the past, including in April when the influencer identified himself as a corporal in the Army reserve.
Leão questioned Bolsonaro about comments he had made in which he said the work of Army corporals and soldiers was limited to cleaning.
'Stop, stop, stop... Why are you angry?' Bolsonaro told him. 'Why did you stay eight years [in the Army] and now you're complaining?'
The YouTuber replied: 'I am defending corporals and soldiers who, for example, carry out the armed security of (president), but outside the door they do not have a gun.'
Bolsonaro has had earlier confrontations, often with the press.
In 2020, he told a journalist, 'I want to punch you in the mouth' and once suggested he'd like to shoot supporters of the rival Workers' Party.

Zebra's face ripped off by crocodiles in Kenya
Zebra's face ripped off by crocodiles in Kenya
I was recently on a Safari at Masai Mara National Park in Kenya this year for the Great Wildebeest Migration. Every year during the season of the Great Migration the zebras must take the risk of crossing many rivers in order to get to the grass that they badly need in order to survive. If the zebras do not get to their source of food they may perish. Sometimes, after crossing a river full of hungry crocodiles, the zebras do not find good grass on the other side. Then they will turn around and go back through the same river to face the vicious crocodiles all over again.
The narrator in video was my Safari guide Jonathan Lenjir. Jonathan was an amazing guide. Johnathan is a Masai Warrior from the Masai tribe in Kenya.
My one real joy in life is travel and sharing my travel experiences with others - the good and the bad. If you look at my videos you can see that I try to show extraordinary and beautiful things, even in harsh conditions.
I originally posted this video, in particular, because it shows the amazing and strong will of the animals of Masai Mara National Reserve to live, something many of the viewers picked up on. One viewer called the zebra in this video "Zebraheart," like Braveheart. That's exactly what I was trying to show! Masai Mara National Reserve, like many of the wild places left in this world, is beautiful and harsh - just like life.
I am sorry, I did feel very bad for the pain that the zebra went through. It was very difficult to watch and witness in person. In no way do I wish to disrespect this zebra. She was so very strong, she fought against 4 crocodiles and was still standing. I will never forget how hard this zebra fought for her life. It makes me feel an even greater respect for life and all living things. Life is so fragile and precious. This happens every day in the wild where no one can see the intense struggle to live.

Horror as crocodile kills man in notorious lagoon after he'd ignored warnings not to go swimming
This is the shocking moment a huge crocodile drags a lifeless man's body in its jaws after he had ignored warnings not to go swimming in a notorious lagoon in Mexico.
Holidaymakers had gathered to watch turtles swim at the Laguna del Carpintero in the city of Tampico but were horrified to see a crocodile swimming past them with the man's body in its jaws on Thursday.
Local police said the man, who has not been named, had ignored warnings not to go swimming because of the presence of crocodiles when he was attacked.
The man's lifeless body was then seen clamped in the crocodile's jaws as it swam below an observation platform used by people to watch turtles at the lagoon.
Police were called and discovered that the crocodile had taken the body into a sewer and had partly eaten it before it could be recovered.
The police said the body was of a man believed to be 30-years-old.
The crocodile was later captured, although it was not revealed what had happened to it after that.
The lagoon is renowned for its crocodile attacks, with a number of people falling victim to the predators.
In June, a woman was killed while she was reportedly washing clothes by the shore at the same lagoon.
Shocked onlookers saw the crocodile swimming with the woman's dead body in its jaws.
In October 2020, a crocodile chased a man swimming in the lagoon before pulling him underwater and killing him.
The unnamed man, believed to be in his 50s or 60, reportedly ignored a sign warning people not to swim in the area.
Elsewhere in Mexico, an eight-year-old girl was attacked two weeks ago in Ciudad Madero by a crocodile but was saved when her father jumped into the water and fought the reptile off.
The girl's father, Fernando Martinez Desiderio, managed to rescue her alive and despite her injuries, she is expected to make a full recovery.

Shocking moment thief falls through Brazilian gas station floor grille while stealing safe
Shocking moment suspect falls through Brazilian gas station floor grille while stealing safe
The Brazilian Civil police announced Thursday the arrest of the fourth and final suspect linked to a gang that robbed four gas stations in the Federal District
Footage revealed by authorities showed how one of the perps crashed through a floor grille when he slipped while trying to load a safe into the trunk of a vehicle
The suspects still managed to get away, but police have not said how much money was in the safe
The three other stations were robbed in December 2021, January and March
A newly released video shows the moment a robbery suspect fell through a Brazilian gas station floor grille while lifting a safe.
The footage of the February theft was revealed Thursday after the civil police in the Federal District arrested the fourth and last suspect of the gang responsible for the string of heists.
In the surveillance video, three suspects can be seen trying to place the safe into the trunk of a vehicle inside the gas station located in the Federal District town of Recanto das Emas.
The four men then pick up the safe off the ground, but the weight of the metal bin caused three of the suspects to slip and fall.
One of them apparently suffered the most when he crashes through the floor grille and falls face first into an area set below the ground where the mechanics position themselves to inspect the undercarriage.
The Federal District police arrested two of the suspects in April and a third on Wednesday, according to Brazilian news outlet G1.
The fourth robbery gang suspect was taken into custody when he was busted for drug trafficking.
The group was known for terrorizing gas stations throughout the Federal District dating back to December 2021 when they robbed a service station in the town of Gama.
They also robbed a gas station in the town of Samambaia in January and another one Ceilândia in March.
Authorities said the group would brandish their firearms in the robberies and tie up the workers. All of the vehicles used in the thefts were stolen and had clone licensed plates. At least one driver was shot during one of the robberies.

Chinese Covid-19 hazmat suits swabbing fish in Xiamen,China
Chinese Covid-19 hazmat suits vigorously swabbing fish in Xiamen,China
There's something fishy going on in the Chinese port city of Xiamen.
China's zero-Covid policy was already strict, but now authorities are tightening the net and checking the catch of the day for Covid-19.
Video shows Chinese Covid-19 hazmat suits vigorously swabbing fish before allowing them to be sold in the market.
City authorities said it necessary to test returning workers before they returned to harbour — allegedly because some fishers had made illegal trades with overseas vessels while at sea.
Crabs and shrimp are also being tested for traces of the virus, footage shows.
But it also included their 'materials' in the testing requirements, presenting a slippery situation for Chinese authorities.
'At present, all people in Xiamen City need nucleic acid testing, and the fish catches must be tested as well,' an employee at the Xiamen municipal ocean development bureau told local media, according to The Guardian.
Online sleuths pointed out that fish, lacking lungs, might have difficulty catching Covid — but that hasn't stopped China from testing them.
The nearby island-province of Hainan is witnessing a serious outbreak, say authorities, and so they are trying to stop Covid from spreading before the sea.
New infections were detected at the beginning of August in Sanya, a city in the province famous for its beach resorts, and have since spread to the whole island.
The provincial government said the Omicron subvariant had been imported via seafood transactions between local and foreign fishermen on August 4, prompting the seafood scare.
'This is so disturbing don’t know whether to laugh or cry,' said Twitter user Neysun Mahboubi.
Another user joked they are being 'tested for fish-pox'.
'A Covid-19 positive fish is the pre-text for China to lockdown Taiwan Strait and South Sea,' said another.
China has had a series of lockdowns to enforce its 'zero-Covid' policy ever since the first handful of cases were identified in the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan.
PCR tests have been conducted on a variety of animals including chickens and cats across China, reported the South China Morning Post.
There are as of yet no confirmed reports of fish testing positive for Covid-19, in China or elsewhere.

Woman shoots cop with his OWN AR-15
Woman opens fire on cop with his OWN AR-15
Woman barricades herself in deputy's patrol car, slips out of her handcuffs and opens fire and shoots cop with his OWN AR-15
Rachel Zion Clay was detained by officers for crawling around and barking in a homeowner's yard
When officers placed her in the vehicle, she broke free of her handcuffs and reached for the officer's gun compartment
She then pulled out the officer's AR-15 assault rifle, loaded the gun, and started firing on the responding officers and a civilian
She fired nine rounds and luckily an officer and a civilian were only grazed by the bullet and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries
Clay has now been charged with three felony counts of shooting with intent to kill
Shocking footage from inside the cruiser shows what happened next: Clay slipped her right wrist out of her handcuffs, reached the console toward the front of the car, and unlocked the gun compartment before retrieving an AR-15 assault rifle.
Clay can then be seen loading a magazine into the gun, flipping the rifle's flashlight on and pointing it out of the rear window, and firing.
One officer and Moses were injured in the shooting as bullets grazed them, but both were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital.
Clay barricaded herself inside the vehicle for over four hours before she surrendered, and officers found methamphetamines in her system.
She has now been charged with three felony counts of shooting with intent to kill for the shooting and is being held on a $1 million bond.
Grady County Undersheriff Gary Boggess explained the situation, saying 'while in the backseat patrol car, she was able to get her wrist free from the handcuffs and the handcuffs were put on properly.'
'She was able to reach up on our consoles. There are several switches; one is a gun switch to unlock the gun lock, and she found it, unlocked the gun locker, and was able to receive retrieve an AR-15 rifle,' Boggess said.
'Then she was able to figure out how to put a round in it, put it on fire and she fired approximately 10 rounds at our deputies and a civilian,' he continued.
Boggess said the police department will be making changes to their procedures in the wake of the incident, including altering how their police cruisers are set up.
'One, I will say is our console. Where it actually said gun and she was able to see that, that's gonna be replaced. We're gonna put a switch someplace else in the vehicle to lock our gun,' Boggess said.
He also emphasized how rare the situation was, admitting he had never seen something like it during his time with the department.
'It's a freak deal. It's one of these, probably, I'm not gonna say one in a million. But you know, it's one of those deals that, you know, once it happens then you go back and try to make sure it never happens again. And that's what we're looking at,' Boggess said.

CCTV shows moments after Thomas O'Halloran attack
CCTV shows moments after Thomas O'Halloran attack
Chilling footage has captured the final fateful journey of a beloved 87-year-old pensioner who was stabbed to death in a 'botched robbery attempt' after spending the afternoon busking to raise money for victims of war.
Adjusting a blue charity collection box, sprayed with yellow paint to represent the Ukraine flag, Thomas O'Halloran, 87, drives past a Tesco store in Greenford, west London just minutes before he was brutally knifed.
CCTV footage shows the much-loved busker 20 minutes before he was attacked in broad daylight in an alleyway next to the busy A40 Western Avenue, in what is believed to be lawless London's 59th murder so far this year.
The footage was taken at 3.48pm as he passed a newsagent shop close to the superstore. Police were called 18 minutes later at 4.06pm after Mr O’Halloran was ambushed as he headed towards Greenford Station a mile away.
Friends suspect the well-known community fundraiser was followed by someone in the run up to the stabbing who 'had been watching him collect his charity money' that afternoon before launching their attack.
Police were called and gave Mr O'Halloran emergency first aid until the arrival of the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance - but, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His killer is thought to have fled in the seconds after the attack and there have been no arrests, with police appealing for witnesses.
This afternoon, police released pictures of a 'dangerous individual' seen fleeing the scene of the attack on Mr O'Halloran - who was originally from Ennistymon in County Clare, Ireland - and said officers want to identify him urgently.
One friend, who had known the retired engineer for more than 20 years, told MailOnline today: 'Someone must have been watching him collect his charity money then followed him. An elderly man on a mobility scooter is an easy target and you wouldn’t expect them to put up much of a fight. It’s a despicable crime.'
It comes as relatives of Mr O'Halloran today paid powerful tribute to the beloved busker, with the pensioner's grandson Joey, 20, telling MailOnline of his family's 'complete shock' at the horrifying killing.
He said: 'The family are still trying to take in what has happened, it is a complete shock. My father called me this morning, he was very upset and didn't talk much. I just don’t understand why someone would do this to a defenceless old man'.
Shopkeeper Ronak Patel, 39, told how he recognised Mr O’Halloran in the footage after he passed by his shop twice a day.
He said: 'I was in great shock when I found out what happened. He used to come by the shop regularly to play his music outside Tesco.
'I have been here six years and in the last six months he has been coming past at least twice a day at around the same time.
'After the war broke out in Ukraine his visits became even more frequent. He would go there every day and return the same way. He was always on his own. There was never anyone else with him.
'He always rode along the pavements and pathways slowly, never on the roads so that he would keep himself safe.
'He always wore the same white baseball cap. If I was standing outside the shop when he went past he would always wave and say hello and I would see him outside Tesco.
'He greets everyone who comes and goes saying hello and has a chat with people.
'He would be there every afternoon playing his music. He was a very peaceful man. He never disturbed anyone, everyone liked to listen to what he was playing.
'He was such a nice gentleman. This is a really terrible thing.'
The Metropolitan Police have since announced they will host a public meeting for residents at 7.30pm on Thursday to air their thoughts and concerns in the wake of the brutal murder.
Scotland Yard Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood, who is leading the investigation, said: 'We are keen to identify the man in the CCTV images as a matter of urgency.
'He is clearly a dangerous individual and people are advised not to approach him, but to call us immediately on 999 if they know him or have any information regarding his whereabouts.
'My team and I have been working around the clock to bring Mr O'Halloran's killer to justice, but we need your help. If you have any information at all that will assist us with our investigation - no matter how small - please contact us or alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously.'
'I'd also appeal to anyone who might have dash cam or cycle helmet footage that might have captured the incident to get in touch with us.'
It marks the sixth murder investigation launched by Scotland Yard in just four days and has sparked a flurry of criticism against London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who said he was 'devastated' to hear of yesterday's attack.
On Monday morning a man was stabbed to death at a Korean restaurant on Poland Street near Oxford Street in the West End. That afternoon a 58-year-old woman was stabbed to death at an address near Acton Town tube station.
A 36-year-old man was found dead in Lewisham and a 60-year-old man was fatally injured during a fight in Dagenham on Sunday, and a 25-year-old man was shot dead in Walthamstow on Saturday.
A friend who had known Mr O'Halloran for more than 20 years told MailOnline: 'I can't believe this has happened. Tom was the most cheerful, jolly person I've ever known.
'Not a day went by when he didn't have a smile on his face.
'Someone must have been watching him collect his charity money then followed him.
'An elderly man on a mobility scooter is an easy target and you wouldn't expect them to put up much of a fight. It's a despicable crime.
'Tom was a man of habit. Every day he would be out and about with his wife who also had a mobility scooter. They would be travelling around at around 10am.
'At 12pm he would go alone up to Tesco to play his accordion. He would sit outside until the late afternoon then would come back along the path where he was attacked and go to Greenford Station.
'He'd go to the station at 5pm for a couple of hours. He would be there during the busy time when everyone was coming home from work then go home at 7pm.
'He had a Ukrainian flag and had a box in his basket for people to put money into.
'Sometimes people would give him £10 or £20 at a time.'
The friend added: 'Tom was a well known figure in the local community and was known as someone who brought joy into people's lives.
'He was so upbeat and positive. He was always laughing and telling jokes.
'He used to drive around in a three wheeler car. The police took it away one day because it hadn't been taxed for a long time.
'Even that didn't appear to stress him out and that's when he got his mobility scooter.'
Neighbours of the pensioner were also left stunned by the tragedy. They said Mr O'Halloran was affectionately known as 'Uncle Tom' and had lived in Greenford since the Seventies.
Anushka Burnett, 37, said: 'Tom was such a lovely guy. He was always bubbly. He was always making jokes and laughing.
'He was just a lovely caring man. He made a lot of effort with all the neighbours. I had conversations with him every day.
'He just couldn't do enough to help people out with little jobs.
'It just doesn't seem right. He was so friendly. He had no problems with anyone.
'He was out all the time. He has never complained about anything happening while he was out. He felt very safe and comfortable getting around. That is what makes this so shocking.
'He loved his music. As well as the accordion he played other instruments and he used to sing in his back garden. It was old classical music. He was a very good musician.
'I just can't imagine why anyone would do this.'
Adrianna Sowinska said: 'It was a great shock when I heard what happened. He was a lovely person. People would come up to him and talk to him. He never did anyone any harm. It's shocking that somebody would do to a defenceless person who needs a mobility scooter to get around.
'He's very well known in the area. He was a real character. I can't believe this has happened.
'I see him everywhere. He plays his accordion outside the station and outside Tesco. He is a good player. He told me he would do it as he just loved playing music and making people happy. He used to play nice melodies.'
Another neighbour told how he learned of the tragedy when police arrived at Mr O'Halloran's house on Tuesday evening.
He said: 'I heard screaming coming from the house. It was his wife. She was so distraught when they told her what had happened.'
Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson, who is in charge of policing for West London, including Ealing, said: 'Mr O'Halloran had his life needlessly snatched away in a shocking act of unprovoked violence.
'I understand that the community will, quite rightly, be shocked and appalled by this incident as I am too.
'Mr O'Halloran was a very well known and much loved member of our community. My thoughts are with his family and friends. I'd like to appeal for their privacy to be respected while they come to terms with their loss.
'Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command, with the assistance of my officers, have been working tirelessly over the last 20 hours to understand what has happened and to identify who is responsible for this horrific crime.
'The public will see extra officers patrolling the area over the coming days. They are there to help and protect you – so if you have any concerns or information that you want to share then please approach them.
'I realise the impact incidents like this have on our communities, but I'd like to reassure you that we are doing all we can to solve the horrendous crimes we've seen across London over the last few days.
'I stress that London remains one of the safest cities in the world, but we need your help and so please come forward with any information you have about this awful incident or any other violent crimes.'
London Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted last night: 'I'm devastated that an elderly man was killed in a horrific attack this evening. My thoughts are with the victim's loved ones.
'I'm in close contact with @MetPoliceUK who have an additional uniformed presence in the area. I urge anyone with information to come forward.'
But Mr Khan has been criticised by many for the huge numbers of violent crimes in the capital in recent weeks.
Conservative MP for Chelsea and Fulham Greg Hands tweeted yesterday morning that Mayor Khan needs to 'get a grip' after the fifth stabbing in a single weekend was confirmed.
The stabbing of Mr O'Halloran is thought to be the 59th murder in London so far this year.
According to the Met's crime dashboard, the number of homicides in the capital in the year to July was nearly 15% down on the previous 12 months.
But last year saw a surge in the number of homicides caused by knives or sharp implements, with 74.4% of the 133 murders last year being knife crimes, a 15.6% increase from 2020.
Frasley Coutinho said the stabbing in Greenwood took place right in front of his house and he managed to catch some of the incident on CCTV.
He said: 'I saw a couple of people gathering around him and then he drove past and stopped further up.
'I had a rose plant blocking it so I couldn't see any more.'
Mr Coutinho added: 'It is terrible. This is a peaceful area. It happened in broad daylight in summertime on a busy road as well.
'I see him all the time. I have lived here for the last few years and he was jolly. We would say 'hello' to each other. He was quite a peaceful guy going on his way.'
Footage from the scene posted online showed paramedics running to treat the victim.
Officers are now appealing for dashcam video or cycle helmet footage from anyone who was on the Western Avenue A40 eastbound near Cayton Road and Welland Gardens between 1.15pm and 4.15pm.
Neighbours have expressed fear after the latest in a spate of murders in the capital. Ali Gaber, 80, who lives near the cordon, said: 'I am very worried. He is an old man and somebody stabbed him. What were they looking for?
'Of course I am worried, I am over 80 too and am disabled. I feel really unsafe. This is quite a quiet area and everybody knows each other.'
Simran Advani, 25, a senior property manager who lives nearby, told how she often saw Mr O'Halloran on his mobility scooter every few days and that he 'always used to smile'.
She said: 'He was a nice old man. He often goes round the block, he always went on the road not the pavement. This is a very quiet area, you never hear any noise on this street. It's scary for a man in his 80s to be killed here.
'Most people on this road are elderly, you never hear any noise and never see any young people. It was just like a normal day today. There's a parade of shops just round the corner under the train tracks and through an alley way which he might have been heading from or to.'
Another neighbour, who did not wish to give his name, said: 'It's not nice, it's normally quiet here. It's out of the way. I feel sorry for his family - I'm not entirely shocked with the amount of stabbing you hear on the news.
'There are not many people coming and going, there's not really any foot traffic. There's playing fields and a school nearby. A lot of people park their cars here.'
He said there was a bus stop nearby, but 'other than that not many people are walking around here'.
Forensic experts in blue overalls could be seen loading bags containing various items into police vans as dozens of officers guarded the scene.
A police cordon had been thrown over the site of residential semi-detached houses. It covers a T-junction between Cayton Road and Runnymede Gardens, which runs parallel to the A40 main road.
Two blue, yellow and white crime scene tents marked 'MPS' were pitched up next to the A40 on Runnymede Gardens, where forensic officers were working under bright lights on the road surface.
The London Ambulance Service was called out at 4.10pm.
A spokesman said: 'We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.
'Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.'

Mobility scooter stabbing victim Thomas O'Halloran playing his accordion in 2020
Mobility scooter stabbing victim Thomas O'Halloran playing his accordion in 2020
Chilling footage has captured the final fateful journey of a beloved 87-year-old pensioner who was stabbed to death in a 'botched robbery attempt' after spending the afternoon busking to raise money for victims of war.

Russian ammunition warehouse in huge fireball
Russian ammunition warehouse in huge fireball,
The ammo dump was located close to the town of Timonovo in Belgorod region
Destruction of the dump occurred less than 30 miles from the Ukraine border
Two towns were evacuated close to the blast, a local governor confirmed
Russian authorities said they are looking into the reason for the blast
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the incident
A Russian ammunition warehouse and military facility close to the Ukrainian border erupted in a huge fireball this evening, prompting the evacuation of two Russian villages.
The ammo dump, located close to the town of Timonovo in the Belgorod region of western Russia, ignited around 6pm BST/8pm local time, sending flames and huge plumes of smoke rising into the air.
Videos circulating on the Telegram messaging app later showed an ominous orange glow on the horizon as a huge inferno continued to rage at the remains of the military base.
The blaze comes days after explosions at a Russian airbase in Crimea - the Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow - which Russia called an act of 'sabotage' by Kyiv.
'An ammunition depot caught fire near the village of Timonovo,' less than 30 miles from the Ukrainian border in Belgorod province, the region's governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a statement.
No casualties were reported, but residents of Timonovo and the nearby village of Soloti were 'moved to a safe distance', he said, adding that authorities were investigating the cause of the fire.
It is unclear whether a Ukrainian attack was the cause of the explosions.
Ukrainian authorities are yet to comment.
Thursday's fire comes amid a slew of blasts at Russian military installations near Ukraine.
Earlier this month, a bomb exploded near the Saki military airfield in Crimea, killing one person and injuring several others.
A few days later, explosions ripped through an ammunition depot in Crimea.
In the second case, Moscow unusually admitted there had been an act of 'sabotage'.
Since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in late February, Moscow has repeatedly accused Ukrainian forces of carrying out strikes on its soil, particularly in the Belgorod region.
Last month, missiles slammed into the provincial capital Belgorod, killing four people, according to local authorities.
And earlier this month, Gladkov accused Ukraine of carrying out an attack on a fuel depot in Belgorod with two helicopters.
Ukraine has neither confirmed or denied responsibility for the attacks.
The explosions and resulting fires in Timonovo tonight come as Moscow is blanketed by thick smog from nearby forest fires.
Hundreds of firefighters and several aircraft were deployed to battle the blazes in the Ryazan region, some 155 miles southeast of Moscow, the emergencies ministry said on Thursday.
The Federal Forestry Agency accused the region's authorities of downplaying the scale of the fires and delaying an adequate response, while the pollution is made worse by some firefighters being deployed to the war in Ukraine, state media said.
The forestry authorities of the Ryazan region and its nature areas let the situation with the forest fires slip and hid its real scale,' the agency told the RIA Novosti news agency.
The region's governor Pavel Malkov said Wednesday that over 1,980 acres had been affected by the fires.
But the international environmental group Greenpeace put the figure at over 8,100 acres.
'There is a high probability that the fires were caused by human action. And the persistent heat and drought are creating favorable conditions for the fire to spread,' Greenpeace said Wednesday.
The organisation warned that Russia suffers from many fires every year, but they rarely get the same attention as the ones that affect the capital.
'Hundreds of thousands of hectares of forest (burn) and people in remote villages are living in smog for months,' Greenpeace's Kosacheva said.
Greenpeace called the situation was catastrophic due to 'extreme heat and drought'.

Australian tourists whizzing along Venice's busiest canal
