John Travolta is heading up an action-packed heist.
PEOPLE has the exclusive first trailer for Cash Out, a thriller starring Travolta as a professional thief who is drawn out of retirement to take on a tricky job in Miami.
The trailer shows the aftermath of one of Mason's (Travolta) jobs, in which he appears to fake his death and give up life as a thief.
Though Mason intends to stay retired, he is enticed back by his brother Shawn (Lukas Haas). He subsequently faces difficulties with law enforcement, who bring in his ex Decker, played by Sex and the City's Kristin Davis, to negotiate with the crew Mason leads.
Mason and his team "hang it up for good after a double-cross spells a near miss with the law," teases a synopsis for the movie. "But when he’s thrust into his younger brother Shawn’s hare-brained scheme to rob a bank — and tempted by what could be his biggest score ever — Mason jumps right back into his old ways."

EXCLUSIVE: Deadline can reveal the international trailer for Valérie Donzelli’s domestic violence drama Just The Two Of Us ahead of its festival debut at the Cannes Film Festival.
Virginie Efira co-stars opposite Melvil Poupaud as a woman who falls passionately in love with the man of her dreams and rapidly cements the relationship with marriage.
When they relocate far from her family and friends, her new life slowly turns from dream to nightmare as she comes to understand that she is in the grip of a deeply possessive and dangerous man.

Efira’s star is on the ascendency following her award-winning performances in films with strong female storylines, including Paris Alice Winocour’s Memories (Revoir Paris) and Rebecca Zlotowski’s Other People’s Children.
Just The Two Of Us will play in the Cannes Premiere section reserved for established filmmakers with a history at the festival.
Actress and director Donzelli made her Cannes debut in 2011 with her second film Declaration Of War in Critics’ Week and returned in Official Selection in 2015 with costume romance Marguerite & Julien.
Donzelli adapted the screenplay from Eric Reinhardt’s novel L’Amour Et Les Forêts, with Venice Golden Lion winning Happening director and writer Audrey Diwan.
The drama is produced by Edouard Weil and Alice Girard at Paris-based Rectangle Productions with France 2 Cinema and Les Films de Françoise. Goodfellas (formerly Wild Bunch International) is handling sales.
Diaphana Distribution has French rights and will release the film in France on May 23.
Launching out of Cannes Premiere, Valerie Donzelli’s “Just the Two of Us” is a feverish psychological thriller about a woman brought deeper and deeper into a toxic relationship. And if Donzelli had always intended to make the project ever since reading the source novel back in 2014, the lockdowns of 2020 helped push certain elements to the front of her mind.
“It’s really the story of a woman trapped under glass,” Donzelli tells Variety. “She’s confined with her husband, isolated and unable to see anyone, cut off from the world. I really wanted to explore how this hold makes you more and more disconnected from life.”
Written by Donzelli and Audrey Diwan, and starring Virginie Efira in a dual role as identical twins, – and produced by Rectangle Productions and sold by Goodfellas – this jangly tale of emotional abuse follows a woman separated from her family, moved to the other side of the country, and eventually isolated all the more by a husband who first seemed like Prince Charming, played by Melvil Poupaud.
Donzelli shot the first part of the film with 16mm stock and bathed the housebound sequences in otherworldly glows and shifting mood lights, creating a stark visual contrast between the main character’s carefree days in Normandy and her suffocated and delirious existence once moved away.
Popular on Variety
“The goal was emotional realism,” Donzelli explains. “I wanted the film to put you into [lead character] Blanche’s head, that we would feel the sensation that she feels, and not stick to a pure reality or be on the ground with the subject. I didn’t want to make a message movie, I wanted to make cinema. And that means visual experimentation.”
‘Just the Two of Us’
Diaphana
“All of the optical effects were done live on set,” she continues. “We shot with filters, we shot with distortion lenses, and with mirrors placed on-top of the lens. We left nothing for post-production, and that was very important, because I love to work with my hands. Even if I’m not personally pushing every button, I still see cinema like sculpture or painting, as something really artisanal.”
Of course, there was the challenge of Virigine Efira’s dual role – especially in the many scenes the sisters share on-screen. “From a directing point of view, I had no interest a kind of hyper-complicated war machine,” Donzelli says. “So I acted as I had two actresses. If I had real twins in front of me, I wouldn’t necessarily try to put them in the same shot all the time.”
“I even forgot the same actor played both roles,” she laughs. “When Virginie finished playing one she’d quickly go change costumes to play the other. And I’d ask ‘Where is she? Where is Rose? What are we waiting for?’ And she’d scream back, ‘She’s getting ready!’”
With a darker tone and more kaleidoscopic visual style, “Just the Two of Us” marks a real change of pace for the filmmaker, who was happy to stretch out her wings. “I am 50 years old now, and this is is not a film I could have made at 30,” she says. “I think it required more film experience. I think the film really changed my way or working.”

Universal’s upcoming adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked” showcased some additional footage at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, bringing down the house with a first look at Cynthia Erivo donning the iconic hat of the Wicked Witch.
Erivo joined director Jon M. Chu and the film’s cast, including costar Ariana Grande, at the event.
“I never could have fathomed that I would have the opportunity to play the Wicked Witch,” Erivo said. “We have performed this song publicly and privately for many years, and now here we are together, getting the chance to perform these songs for an audience around the world.”
The sneak peek showed sweeping shots of the colorful world of Oz, along with Elphaba and Glinda’s turbulent first days together at Shiz University, where they are training to be witches. Elphaba develops far faster than Glinda, showing incredible potential and gaining the attention of Madame Morrible, played by Michelle Yeoh.

We also see Glinda offer Elphaba the most horrible item in her wardrobe: her grandmother’s hat. That hat is the pointed witch’s hat that ends up becoming the iconic symbol of the Wicked Witch of the West, and one that the Wizard of Oz uses to turn Elphaba into a villain to preserve his power.
“I’m not afraid,” Elphaba tells Glinda. “It is the wizard who should be afraid of me.”
As the film’s director said onstage, “I was a Silicon Valley kid, and in a stroke of luck I was there when ‘Wicked’ was workshopped at the Curran Theater in San Francisco. I related to the story of Elphaba, the witch who is judged for how she looks, but I never dreamed that I would get my dream job of directing it for the big screen.”
The film’s cast also includes Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode and Bowen Yang. And, newly announced at CinemaCon, actor Peter Dinklage has joined the cast in the role of Dr. Dillamond.
“We dream very big for ‘Wicked,’” Chu added. “We wanted to honor the source material… but we also wanted to create a new world of its own, one that creates sights and sounds and performances that will lift your soul and occasionally break your heart.”

Ariana Grande: 'I Think I Was Hiding From My Success' Before Making 'Wicked' | Video
A brief teaser was unveiled during Super Bowl LVIII at the beginning of February, though there’s been little else since filming concluded. This marks the first significant look at the film and its colorful world before its Thanksgiving debut.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, “Wicked” received critical acclaim on Broadway when it debuted in 2003 for its radical reinterpretation of “The Wizard of Oz.” Set before and during the events of the classic L. Frank Baum novel and its legendary MGM film adaptation, “Wicked” presents Elphaba not as a villain, but as a misunderstood young woman who formed an unexpected friendship with Glinda while learning sorcery at Shiz University.
However, the two future witches’ friendship is broken apart by the corrupt government of the Wizard of Oz (Goldblum) and the machinations of the university’s headmistress (Yeoh). Featuring new songs not seen in the Broadway version, “Wicked” will be broken into two parts that will be released on Thanksgiving weekend this year and in 2025.
“Wicked: Part 1” hits theaters Nov. 27.
Something Wicked this way comes.
The first teaser trailer for the movie musical Wicked: Part One debuted during Super Bowl Sunday, showing the first footage of Cynthia Erivo as the witchy Elphaba and Ariana Grande as bubbly Glinda.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, who also brought In the Heights from stage to screen in 2021, Wicked will be a two-part adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s Tony-winning Broadway show. Part Two is set to be released Nov. 26, 2025.
'Wicked' Film Gives First Look at Ariana Grande's Glinda and Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba
A prequel to the events of The Wizard of Oz, Wicked is the origin story of “a green-skinned woman,” the film’s logline states, who “becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.” Its source material is Gregory Maguire’s hit 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Joining Erivo, 37, as that green-skinned heroine and Grande, 30, as her schoolmate-turned-best-friend is Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
Michelle Yeoh Says Making Her First Musical 'Wicked' Is a 'Risk': 'Trying Something New'
"This movie has everything: giant musical numbers, big action pieces,” Chu told the audience at CinemaCon 2023 in April, introducing first-look footage. “And using a classic story you all know, The Wizard of Oz."
The director added, "At the end of the day, it's actually not about those things. It's about change and [how] it's necessary for things to get better."
The musical’s original Broadway cast included Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Idina Menzel as Elphaba. The latter actress earned one of the production’s three Tony Awards, for leading actress in a musical.
Celebrating Wicked's 15th anniversary in 2018, Menzel told PEOPLE she “had no idea what it would become but I knew it was something special. I needed this role to teach me something about life that I needed to learn."
Chenoweth said at the time, "Very few times in our career do we have a hand-in-glove moment, and Glinda was mine. I just thought when I read it, ‘This is my part! And if anybody else plays Glinda, I’ll kill them in their sleep!’”

In 2022 around the time it was filming, Erivo told Entertainment Tonight that the Wicked film adaptation would be “unlike anything you've ever seen before."
She continued, "I think we're going to enjoy the magic of it. We're going to try and put our own spin on what we know already and show you a story about two women [who] are sisters."
Wicked: Part One is in theaters Nov. 27.
Here’s the first official trailer for Wicked Part 1, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, which dropped during this evening’s Super Bowl.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, the big-screen adaptation tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz, based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, originally based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, previously adapted into MGM’s classic 1939 film of the same name. The story is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, which examines how the green-skinned Elphaba (Erivo) became the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as the sorceress Glinda’s (Grande) trajectory to becoming known as the Good Witch. The big-screen adaptation was written by Winne Holzman, who penned the long-running stage production, and Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldbum, Jonathan Bailey, and Ethan Slater also star.

Wicked will be broken into two parts with Wicked Part One slated to drop on Nov. 27, 2024. Chu previously shared on Instagram why they opted to make two films for the musical.
“As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years,” Chu said in an open letter posted on Instagram. “So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but TWO!!!! With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.”

A Bit of Light unfolds as an intimate story about a recovering alcoholic named Ella (Paquin). A series of tough breaks forces Ella to move back in with her father Alan (Winstone), while her daughters are under the care of her ex-husband Joseph (Youssef Kerkour) and his new partner Bethan (Pippa Bennett-Warner). Mired in guilt, the protagonist finds herself in fights with Joseph and Bethan about the kids and Alan over AA meetings. However, an unlikely friendship with Neil (newcomer Luca Hogan) opens her eyes to taking responsibility and making the changes she needs to make.
Moyer came to direct A Bit of Light following a longtime friendship with Callard, with whom he first worked as an actor over 25 years ago. “Her play ‘A Bit of Light’ moved me immeasurably,” he shared, “and I saw a wonderful opportunity for us to work together on creating this deeply personal film, with Anna.”
In a statement on the pic’s distribution deal, Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman remarked that “Stephen Moyer has already proven himself as an assured and skilled director, but with the amazing and intimate performances captured in A Bit of Light, he has taken things to a new level.”
Phin Glynn and Axel Kuschevatzky produced for Infinity Hill, alongside Moyer and Paquin, with Isabelle Georgeaux producing through her production company Pont Neuf Productions. The project is an Infinity Hill and Pont Neuf Productions film, produced in association with Shorelight Pictures and Great Point Media. Exec producers include Anja Murmann and Sabine Schenk of Shorelight Pictures, Egor Noskov, Victor Glynn and Geoff Iles of GCB Films, and Callard, as well as Jim Reeve of Great Point and Cindy Teperman of Infinity Hill.
Judah Klatzker negotiated the deal for Quiver, with Ron Möring of Double Dutch International on behalf of the production.
Anna Paquin is battling an undisclosed illness that is hampering her mobility.
On Wednesday, the actress walked the red carpet using a cane for assistance. She was with her husband, actor-director Stephen Moyer, at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City for their latest film, A Bit of Light.
“It hasn’t been easy,” Paquin told People of needing a cane to walk and experiencing some difficulties with her speech. The magazine cited a source who says the Oscar and Emmy-winning actress is hoping to make a full recovery.

Despite the physical issues, Paquin is grateful to still be working.
“My first love was independent filmmaking,” said Paquin. “That’s how I entered the film industry. I was working with people who were all about telling stories and telling them with integrity and truth.”
Paquin was directed by husband Moyer in the indie drama, which is based on a stage play.
A Bit of Light stars Paquin as an alcoholic mother who loses custody of her children and has to pick up the pieces of her broken life while reconciling with her past.
She said as a mom she understood that parenthood can be complex, and that women can often be forgotten as fully formed people once they become mothers.
“Not everyone ends up having the journey with motherhood that they have hoped or had planned,” Paquin says. “We’re all flawed and imperfect, and Ella is kind of on some level repeating some sort of familial patterns as far as stuffing feelings down.”
She added, “It’s very relatable because there’s so many ways that people can get in their own way, or sort of learn to cope with trauma.”
A Bit of Light is in theaters Friday, April 5.

ALIEN_ ROMULUS Teaser Trailer (2024) Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced

The first teaser trailer for Fede Álvarez’ “Alien: Romulus,” released March 20, hints at a return to the same kinds of thrills that audiences experienced back in 1979 with Ridley Scott’s “Alien” — and that James Cameron delivered in the 1986 follow-up, “Aliens.” Opening with a parade of spaceships reminiscent of the Nostromo and Sulaco, the clip offers a first look at its young cast, which features Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”) and Isabela Merced (“Madame Web”). The crew navigates dimly-lit, hexagonal corridors, run from scurrying facehuggers, and deliver shrieks of fear that, despite the original film’s tagline (“In space, no one can hear you scream”), echo all too viscerally.
“Alien: Romulus” marks the seventh film in the “Alien” franchise, and the overall ninth involving acid-blooded xenomorphs, if you include the “Aliens vs. Predator” crossover films. Writer-director Álvarez is about to complicate its already convoluted timeline even further with “Romulus,” which premieres August 16. But the more important question is, will it be better than some of the more lackluster chapters in this ongoing saga — which there are probably more of than great ones?
Popular on Variety
According to Álvarez, he’s hedging his bets: set in between the events of Scott’s film and Cameron’s, “Romulus” will draw heavily upon those chapters in terms of style, story and tone. Ahead of the trailer’s premiere, Álvarez, a veteran of inherited franchises including “Evil Dead” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” spoke to Variety about the ways his “Alien” film is the same, and different, from the ones that came before his, and reflected on his aim to bring the film series back to its scary roots.
This takes place in the 57-year span between “Alien” and “Aliens.” How careful did you have to be to not upset the larger mythology of the franchise?
[“Alien: Romulus”] takes 20 years after the first one, and for me, I don’t see it as upsetting the canon. It’s something I take personal pleasure in doing, making sure that it all tracks and is all part of the big “Alien” franchise story — not only in the story, but also when it comes to how to make it. I talked with Ridley [Scott] as a producer, and had long chats with James Cameron about it at the script level. After the movie was done, I showed it to them.
Everybody’s really important, from the VFX supervisor of “Aliens” and the guys that make the miniatures, and we hired a lot of them to work on the movie. Otherwise, it’s hard to nail the style and the look and the vibe of a film like I wanted. That was the biggest pleasure of making this movie, to be able to do that whole process.
How did you achieve your goals with this movie and incorporate their foundational knowledge of the franchise?
Obviously “Alien” and “Aliens” are very different movies, but we figured out ways with this story to make sure I didn’t have to choose. There are incredible, smart things [accomplished] in those movies. You really want to push it and create this world, so as a director, you’re not sitting in your chair and just pointing at shit. I do VFX shots myself. I’m puppeteering there with them. In every movie, I think, “Okay, this is the one where I finally got to sit down and just point at shit.” It doesn’t happen. The movies get bigger and I’m still there on the floor getting my hands dirty. And that’s really what Ridley and Cameron told me — the only way to make this movie is you have to be involved at every level. These are very handmade movies from their directors, that’s why they’re so unique. This is not a studio movie where you come in, do your thing and there’s a machine going on that knows how to do them.
As you said, each director in the series made their “Alien” movie all their own. What elements does this movie have, that the others may not, because of you?
Well, it’s definitely not just me. Roughly there are six years between the movies, so every movie has come out in a different era of filmmaking, so that’s why they’re so different. But for me, it was really taking it back to its roots. I wanted to travel back not just to the style of the original movies, but to the genre of the original movies. I really wanted to go back to the sheer horror of the first film, and to take those elements of thriller that “Aliens” has, and “Alien 3” has as well. We went to crazy extents to keep it pure to the filmmaking techniques of the first movie. But if anybody’s worried, “Is it going to be too retro?” Don’t worry, 2023 will pour through every window. There’s no way to stop the modernity of filmmaking. And from that combination of the best of the classics and the best of today, then you have something new.
How tough was it to find a balance between the little green computer monitors of “Alien” and the futuristic technology of the more recent films?
I know a lot of people felt like it makes no sense. But I think we make the mistake when we watch the Nostromo and assume that’s how the entire universe looks like. If I decide to make a movie on Earth today, and I go to the Mojave Desert and I take an old truck because a guy drives a Chevy, if you’re an alien, you’re going to go, “That’s what the world looks like.” But it doesn’t mean there’s not a guy in a Tesla in the city, which would be the “Prometheus” ship. The first movie is truck drivers in a beat-up truck. “Prometheus” is the ship of the richest man in the world.
It’s no secret that the first two films are revered. Not asking you to trash talk any of the other movies, but were there any pitfalls, perceived or actual, in the execution of these stories that you were careful to avoid as you were writing and directing this movie?
I think what happens when you come into franchise like this one is that everybody has a different idea of what this is or must be. When I did “Evil Dead,” some people thought it was a twist that I played it with a straight face, because for a lot of people that is a comedy. But if you saw the first one when you were a kid, like I did, there’s nothing funny about it. In the “Alien” franchise, there were places that the directors and Ridley were more interested in that necessarily wasn’t related to the horror of it all. But for me, “Alien” works at its best when it’s scary, and when it’s action like “Aliens.” The horror and the shock of that world is personally what I liked the most.

"The future of humanity is in her hands." Netflix has unveiled the first look teaser trailer for a sci-fi movie called Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez – making it another star-driven expensive spectacle that will release this summer streaming on Netflix. Yet another artificial intelligence-related sci-fi movie, since it's the big tech trend of the moment, everyone has to make movies about it. Atlas is set in a bleak future, where an A.I. soldier has determined that the only way to end war is to end humanity. Lopez plays a data analyst with a deep distrust of A.I., who joins a mission to capture a renegade robot. When plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it. Along with Lopez, this stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, & Mark Strong. From the looks of it, this is almost a pro-A.I. propaganda piece disguised as a sci-fi movie. The Creator is a bit different, but this seems rather blatant in its message where she must learn to "trust it." Huh. This is a nice teaser, with some awesome VFX shots, but will the rest of it be any good? Only time will tell. Check out the teaser below.

Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice is back for more undead mischief in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
On Thursday, Warner Bros. debuted the first teaser trailer for director Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel to his 1988 classic.
Keaton, who starred in the original movie as the titular green-haired ghost, is back for the sequel more than 30 years later, as well as original cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also stars Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Jenna Ortega, the latter of whom previously worked with Burton, 65, on the Netflix series Wednesday. Monica Bellucci, who is dating Burton, will also appear in the movie.
According to a synopsis, "After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened."
"With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem."

The movie is Burton's first feature film since he directed Disney's 2019 live-action remake of Dumbo. When the director spoke with The Independent about the upcoming sequel back in September, he said he "tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets" for the follow-up.
"It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies," he told the outlet.

O'Hara, 69, recently teased to PEOPLE that she filmed one-on-one scenes with Keaton, 72, for the upcoming project. "I'd been in the first movie in group scenes with Michael, but in this, I had an actual moment where the two of us just...," she said. "And it was just so crazy and thrilling, really to just be face-to-face with Beetlejuice.”
“He looks the same,” she joked. “Beetlejuice has aged very well.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in theaters Sept. 6.
After 36 years, Beetlejuice has finally come back to haunt you.
Warner Bros. has released the trailer for Tim Burton’s follow-up to his 1988 cult classic horror-comedy “Beetlejuice,” with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the ghoulish title character. The sequel, officially titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is set for release on Sept. 6.
In addition to Keaton, original “Beetlejuice” Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are back as Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively. Jenna Ortega rounds out the family as newcomer Astrid Deetz. Monica Bellucci plays Beetlejuice’s wife and Willem DeFoe stars as a “police officer in the afterlife” and former “B movie action star,” whose acting skills help him as an afterlife detective. Justin Theroux also joins the sequel in a new role.
The original “Beetlejuice” followed a deceased couple trying to haunt the Deetz family out of their new home with the help of the eccentric ghost Beetlejuice. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis starred as the Maitlands while Jeffrey Jones, O’Hara and Ryder made up the Deetz family. The movie developed a cult following after its release and later spawned a hit musical adaptation on Broadway.

Burton announced on social media last November that he had finished filming the “Beetlejuice” sequel after a months-long delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. In September, he revealed to The Independent that he only had “a day and a half” of filming remaining prior to the shutdown.
“I feel grateful we got what we got,” Burton said at the time. “Literally, it was a day and a half. We know what we have to do. It is 99 percent done.”
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators of the Ortega-starring Netflix series “Wednesday,” penned the script for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”

“Boy Kills World” rampages into theaters this April and we’ve got the very wild first trailer.
The plot for “Boy Kills World” is pretty standard – a deaf-mute boy’s family is killed and he retreats to the jungle where he’s trained by a mysterious, stereotype-skirting mentor to go back and seek revenge on the people who murdered his family. (The boy grows up to be a very chiseled Bill Skarsgård.) Also, there’s some kind of “Hunger Games”-ish television show called The Culling involved, which broadcasts murders live. You know. That old story.
The trailer looks like an over-the-top, action-filled bloodbath which is precisely what you want from this kind of thing. And while it appears that the trailer gives away much of the movie, we’re certain there’s more that couldn’t be shown (or even hinted at) in this all-ages trailer.

“Boy Kills World” was produced by genre legend Sam Raimi and “Barbarian” producer Roy Lee, and features a cast made up of genre favorites like Jessica Rothe, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Famke Janssen, Brett Gelman, Sharlto Copley and Michelle Dockery. H. Jon Benjamin serves as Boy’s inner voice (borrowed from a video game Boy loved). It was directed by Moritz Mohr from a script by Arend Remmers and Tyler Burton Smith, with Mohr coming up with the story with Arend Remmers.
The movie had its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where the official synopsis warned potential viewers to “steel yourself for the gnarly deployment of a cheese grater across multiple faces and appendages.” (Always good to hear.) At the festival it was warmly received with Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions picking it up in early 2024.
“Boy Kills World” will be released theatrically on April 26.
The first trailer for Boy Kills World teases a bloody and stylized action movie starring Bill Skarsgård as a deaf and mute boy seeking revenge.
The movie is produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Moritz Mohr.
The trailer teases dark humor, inventive action, and supporting performances from Michelle Dockery, Famke Janssen, Jessica Rothe, Brett Gelman, and Sharlto Copley.
Boy Kills World's first trailer has been released, teasing the Sam Raimi-produced action movie starring Bill Skarsgård. Directed by Moritz Mohr, Boy Kills World tells the story of Boy (Skarsgård), a deaf mute who sets out on a bloody path of revenge following the murder of his family. The movie also stars Michelle Dockery, Famke Janssen, Jessica Rothe, Brett Gelman, and Sharlto Copley, among others, and has been teased as quite the action-packed ride.
Now, Roadside Attractions shares the first trailer for Boy Kills World ahead of its release in theaters on April 26. Check out the trailer and the accompanying synopsis for the film below:
Skarsgård stars as "Boy" who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deaf and voiceless. Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman (Ruhian) to become an instrument of death and is set loose on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents.
Bedlam ensues as Boy commits bloody martial arts mayhem, inciting a wrath of carnage and blood-letting. As he tries to get his bearings in this delirious realm, Boy soon falls in with a desperate resistance group, all the while bickering with the apparent ghost of his rebellious little sister.
What To Expect From Boy Kills World
Skarsgård is perhaps best known for playing Pennywise the clown in the two latest IT movies, but the actor has also recently appeared in the surprise horror hit Barbarian and as part of the cast of John Wick: Chapter 4 as the villainous Marquis. Boy Kills World will mark an interesting change of pace for the actor, then, with the movie setting the stage of an epic debut in the action genre.
It's challenging to say what exactly Mohr will bring to the project as director, with Boy Kills World marking his feature film debut. Raimi being on board as a producer is a good sign, however. Raimi's best-known directorial efforts include Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy and the first three installments of the Evil Dead franchise, but his work as a producer in recent years is also impressive, and he's produced movies like Crawl, Don't Breathe, and Evil Dead Rise, all of which feature strong bloody violence.
Judging from the trailer, Boy Kills World will feature a very over-the-top tone and a high degree of stylization, with bright colors, off-kilter dark humor, and brutal action all combining to make for a unique and unpredictable experience. Skarsgård has certainly proven himself a talented actor, however, and the supporting performances from Copley, Janssen, Dockery, and others, all look like they'll add a great degree of flavor to the world of the film.

It’s Jennifer Hudson versus the apocalypse — and her fellow survivors — in the new movie Breathe.
Also starring Milla Jovovich, Quvenzhané Wallis, Common, Raúl Castillo and Sam Worthington, the upcoming thriller is directed by Stefon Bristol and written by Doug Simon.
PEOPLE is exclusively debuting the first trailer, which features Hudson and her costars in action-star mode.
The Oscar winner, 42, can be seen navigating a New York City deprived of breathable oxygen and holing up with her family.
“After Earth is left uninhabitable due to lack of oxygen, a mother Maya (Hudson) and her daughter Zora (Wallis) are forced to live underground, with short trips to the surface only made possible by a coveted, state-of-the-art oxygen suit,” reads a synopsis.

Maya’s husband Darius, “whom she presumes to be dead,” is played by Common, 51. “When a mysterious couple arrives claiming to know Darius and his fate, Maya tentatively agrees to let them into their bunker,” continues the synopsis.
But, as the pulse-pounding trailer indicates, “these visitors are not who they claim to be.”

Bristol, a Film Independent Spirit Award winner for 2019's See You Yesterday, also has praise for his “incredible” cast, who “all bring freshness and something gravely unique to the storytelling.”
He tells PEOPLE he is “so damn happy for the world to finally get to see” what he calls “a labor of love.”

“It’s a story about a mother and daughter who are at odds, fighting to survive,” the filmmaker says. “They have to learn to trust each other, because one small mistake will mean agonizing death. What family can’t relate to that?”
In a statement about the film’s message, Bristol says Breathe is “a personal story. The more personal, the more universal. We want to scare the audience to realize that the Earth can end tomorrow.”

Citing a Native American proverb — “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, but we borrow it from our children” — Bristol adds that his goal with the film was to help audiences “realize that we are on the verge of leaving our children and future generations with a terrible planet” thanks to man-made climate change.
“The characters keep talking and thinking about their children. They are more concerned about the survival of their children than themselves. The future generations do not deserve this. We have to give our children the tools to help sustain and re-grow the Earth.”
Breathe is in theaters, on digital and on demand April 26.
A mother-daughter duo to fight for survival against strangers desperate for oxygen in Breathe.
The movie stars Jennifer Hudson and Quvenzhané Wallis as mother and daughter pair Maya and Zora.
Director Stefon Bristol's new film is a personal story about trust and survival, aiming to scare audiences into realizing the fragility of our planet.
In a stark future where Earth's air is no longer safe, the few remaining survivors would be left to scrap and claw for every last store of oxygen. That's the terrifying reality imagined by Stefon Bristol's upcoming action thriller Breathe, which stars Jennifer Hudson and Quvenzhané Wallis as a mother and daughter who are limited to living underground when the surface becomes uninhabitable. A new trailer shared today shows their desperate fight for survival when confronted by strangers seeking shelter whose intentions may not be as benevolent as they initially seem.
The events of Breathe are set in motion after Maya's (Hudson) husband and genius inventor Darius (Common) leaves their bunker for a longer outing, only to presumably run out of oxygen and die on the surface. Alone and forced to make excursions themselves, Maya and her daughter Zora (Wallis) try to get by, but danger quickly finds them when they run into two survivors during one trip. One of them, Tess (Milla Jovovich), pleads for the pair to let her into their bunker, so she can examine and replicate Darius's oxygen generator. Her plan could help save the planet, but she shows her true colors after shutting off their power and preparing to let them suffocate. While her intentions are unknown, it's clear she and her fellow survivors will go to any lengths to seize the oxygen they need, forcing Maya and Zora into a tense fight for their lives.
Breathe becomes a gritty, intense actioner in the second half of its trailer. As Maya and Zora leave the safety of their bunker behind, they confront the survivors head-on in the harsh, brightly-colored post-apocalyptic wasteland where one well-placed shot or ambush could leave them without air. To ensure they can live peacefully, they'll have to confront the group of survivors where they live. In addition to Jovovich, the mother and daughter will come into contact with Sam Worthington and Raúl Castillo, among others, during their excursion.
'Breathe' Is a Personal Story for Bristol
A protégé of the great Spike Lee, Bristol has earned his fair share of flowers, taking home a Film Independent Spirit Award for his previous film See You Yesterday. He recently told People Magazine, though, that his latest film is a "labor of love" that he's incredibly eager for audiences to see in part because of how relatable it is. "It’s a story about a mother and daughter who are at odds, fighting to survive," he said. “They have to learn to trust each other, because one small mistake will mean agonizing death. What family can’t relate to that?" Beyond that, he's noted in previous statements how the goal is to show audiences how close our planet is to being unlivable for future generations. With the trailer, he reiterated that message, adding that it's "a personal story. The more personal, the more universal. We want to scare the audience to realize that the Earth can end tomorrow."

"What makes you think I want someone to be in love with me?" Oh so feisty!! MGM Studios has unveiled the second trailer for the love triangle tennis film titled Challengers, the latest feature from filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (of I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All). Now set for release in April. "The art of seduction and other games." After a losing streak, the wife and coach of a Grand Slam champion signs him up for Challenger event where he will face off against her former lover – and his former competitor. The main cast includes Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist as the trio at the center of this lovers' quarrel, along with A.J. Lister and Jake Jensen. This was originally set to open in September last year after a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. But the release & premiere were cancelled because of the actors' strike. It was expected that the film would next show up at Sundance or Berlinale instead, though it isn't at either fest. Now it will arrive in theaters this April. Still looking good?

Tennis player turned coach Tashi (Zendaya) has taken her husband, Art (Mike Faist), and transformed him into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a “Challenger” event — close to the lowest level of pro tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend (Josh O’Connor). Challengers is directed by acclaimed Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, director the films The Protagonists, Melissa P, I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria, and Bones and All previously, as well as a few docs including Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams most recently. The screenplay is by Justin Kuritzkes. Produced by Luca Guadagnino and Amy Pascal. This hasn't premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere. MGM will release Guadagnino's Challengers in theaters nationwide starting April 26th, 2024 this spring.
Another 2023 theatrical release gets moved due to the SAG-AFTRA strike as MGM is pushing the Zendaya-led tennis romance Challengers to April 26. The R-rated pic from director Luca Guadagnino was scheduled to open stateside on September 15, working off the heat of its Venice Film Festival opening-night premiere. That world premiere is not happening now.

It’s the most-viewed trailer for an original film in its first 24 hours (meaning it’s not a sequel, reboot or based on pre-existing IP).

Netflix's Damsel remains on top, with 86.1 million views in just 10 days.
The film "flips the script" on traditional princess stories, showcasing Princess Elodie as a brave warrior.
Watch a new behind-the-scenes video featuring Millie Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, and more.
There's definitely nothing distressing about this news — for the second consecutive week, Netflix's Damsel held the top spot on the streaming platform, garnering 50.8 million views and becoming the week's most-viewed title. In a span of just 10 days, the film amassed a total of 86.1 million views, securing the #1 position in 87 countries and making it into the Top 10 in 93 countries. To celebrate the achievement, Collider is delighted to be working with Netflix to bring our readers an exclusive look at a behind-the-scenes featurette from the film, entitled "Flipping the Genre," featuring star Millie Bobby Brown.
Based on the novel of the same name, by author Evelyn Skye, Brown takes on the role of the Princess Elodie, who is betrothed to a dashing prince and, although apprehensive, decides to go ahead with the match as she believes in fulfilling her royal duty and wants to make her family proud. However, she soon uncovers a sinister plot by the royal family to sacrifice her to settle an age-old debt. After this shocking betrayal, Elodie is thrown into a dark cave, guarded by a terrifying and gigantic dragon, soon realizing that nobody will be able to rescue her except herself. It's at this point the Princess knows that if she is to make it out alive, she's going to have to take matters into her own hands and deal with this dragon herself.
Brown appears in the featurette alongside co-stars Angela Bassett, Nick Robinson, Robin Wright, Shohreh Aghdashaloo, and Ray Winstone, as well as director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and explains how the film attempts to flip the script on the traditional "damsel in distress" stereotype we've seen from movies that feature princesses in peril. Showcasing clips from the movie, we see the cast explain in detail why Elodie is different from other princesses, with an enthusiastic Brown admitting she may be in distress, briefly, before becoming a warrior.
'Damsel' Is a "Visually Stunning" Film
Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown) stares at a glowing dangling orb in DamselImage via Netflix
In her review of the film, Collider's Maggie Lovitt hailed the aesthetic and visuals of the movie:
"Damsel is a visually stunning film. So much so, that it’s hard to believe that it was made-for-streaming, rather than made-for-screen. The dragon is a marvel to watch in action, particularly when it prepares to unleash its molten wrath on Elodie. The glow worms Elodie comes in contact with in the cave are another visual treat as their soft blue hues glisten and glimmer, lighting her way."
Damsel is currently streaming on Netflix. Check out our exclusive featurette, "Flipping the Genre," above.

DADDIO Trailer (2024) Dakota Johnson, Sean Penn

DADDIO Trailer (2024) Dakota Johnson, Sean Penn
© 2024 - Sony Pictures
Daddio stars Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn and is set in a New York City cab. Watch the trailer below.
The film uses cutting-edge Volume technology from The Mandalorian.
Johnson and Penn serve as producers on the film, putting their faith in director Christy Hall.
Sony Pictures Classics has just dropped the trailer for Daddio, the latest film featuring Dakota Johnson and hopefully, for the star, this one will be better received than her current cinematic outing, Madame Web. The film, which made its bow at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, tells the story of a life-altering taxi ride from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport into the heart of Manhattan. Johnson is the passenger, while Sean Penn drives the cab in the feature-length directorial debut of writer and filmmaker Christy Hall.
Notably, the movie is also the first grounded drama to make use of The Mandalorian's "Volume" technology — by employing a sound stage with drive footage projected onto the screen. The cab was surrounded by high-resolution LED panels, using anamorphic lenses that were de-tuned for a vintage look, which added an air of authenticity to the film's final product.
The film is a two-hander, with Johnson and Penn the only cast members involved, giving the film an air of theatricality, and there's clearly a huge level of nuanced acting going on within that tight space of an iconic yellow cab. Indeed, Penn was quoted as saying — via Hall, last year — that the film made him want to tread the boards and take to the stage once again.“They really delivered the play because they’re both theater people,” Hall explained, “Sean’s been on Broadway; he worked with Sam Shepherd for many years, originating a lot of his work in San Francisco. Dakota did theater before she became the glorious movie star that she is. So we just kind of treated it like a play.”
Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn Serve as Producers on 'Daddio'

Hall told Collider’s Perri Nemiroff last year that both Penn and Johnson were pivotal allies to have in her corner, not just as stars, but also as producers on the project, putting their faith in her as the correct person to lead the film despite her cinematic inexperience.
“This being my first feature, I’ve raised my hand for a few of my scripts and I, a lot of times, was told no. I really needed people to surround me, and Sean and Dakota, they put their faith in me, they put their faith in this script, and they said, ‘No, Christy is the one to direct this, and we’re going to help her push this boulder up the mountain.’”
Daddio will be released in theaters sometime this summer. Watch the new trailer below.
Premiering at the Telluride Film Festival last year, “Daddio” seemingly came out of nowhere with a starry cast and a minimalist logline. Starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, the film is essentially just a two-hander set in a taxi cab, where a driver (Penn) and the rider (Johnson) basically strike up a long and provocative conversation about life, politics, and their outlooks on the world.
Directed by Christy Hall, who co-created the series “I Am Not Okay With This” and makes her directorial debut with “Daddio,” the film is a very stripped-down, minimalist affair that relies on the charm and talents of its two lead actors.
READ MORE: ‘Daddio’ Review: Dakota Johnson & Sean Penn Shine in Christy Hall’s Schematic But Affecting Drama [TIFF]
Our review from TIFF praised the two actors, the design of the film, the writing, and its ability to sustain itself despite the super spare concept.
“Hall’s writing is so insightful,” our reviewer wrote. “There’s a well-observed authenticity to these characters, and she gets all the logistical and geographic details right.. Johnson and Penn’s connection is genuine, and there’s an awful lot to like here.”
Here’s the official synopsis:
New York City. JFK airport. A young woman jumps into the backseat of a yellow taxi, the cabbie throws the vehicle into drive as the two head out into the night toward Manhattan, striking up the most unexpected conversation resulting in a single, epic, remarkable journey.
“Daddio” has no release date yet, but Sony Pictures Classics snatched up rights to the picture late last year. The new teaser trailer gives a small taste of what the picture has in store and promises a summer release. Watch the new trailer below.

Well Go USA is releasing this direct-to-video survival thriller titled Escape, which is not the most original or interesting title. It's already available on VOD now after premiering last year. After being taken from an island resort by a criminal gang, ten young women hatch an escape plan through the deset as they fight for survival against their ruthless kidnappers. They're caught off-guard when some of the women break free and fight back. his trash action thriller film stars Sarah Alexandra Marks, Sophie Rankin, Sean Cronin, Angela Dixon, Glenn Salvage, Jon-Paul Gates, Ksenia Islamova, Megan Lockhurst, and Tiffany Hannam-Daniels. "I really wanted the film to be a total blast and an epic journey… It's outlandish and larger than life. The action & violence are visceral and the landscapes striking. When the women fight back, they fight back hard," the director explains. This really looks as terrible as any movie can - avoid at all costs.
Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Howard J. Ford's Escape, direct from YouTube:
Escape Movie Poster
Ten sex trafficked young women are taken from an island resort by a violent criminal gang for shipping to an overseas client. A young nurse and feisty dancer (Sarah Alexandra Marks) hatch an escape-plan, finding themselves in the desert fighting for survival against ruthless traffickers. Escape is both written & directed by English filmmaker Howard J. Ford, of the films Mainline Run, Distant Shadow, The Dead, The Dead 2: India, Never Let Go, Adventure Boyz, The Lockdown Hauntings, The Ledge, and DarkGame previously. Produced by Fred Hedman and Howard J. Ford. This initially premiered at the 2023 Razor Reel Fantastic Film Fest last year. Well Go USA debuted Escape direct-to-VOD on March 15th, 2024 - out now.
Owen Wilson isn't exactly known for his serious acting. He's run the gamut of comedy from the deadpan, bittersweet humor of Wes Anderson movies like The Royal Tenenbaums and The Grand Budapest Hotel to all-out studio comedies like The Wedding Crashers and Zoolander, but he hasn't starred in a straight-up action movie since Behind Enemy Lines.
That's about to change as Wilson takes the lead in No Escape, a guy-trying-to-save-his-family action movie from Quarantine director John Erick Dowdle. The first trailer for No Escape has just been released, and it's really worth watching just for the underlying awkwardness of both the premise and the tone of it.
Here's the story: Wilson plays Jack Dwyer, a man who moves his family out to Asia (Pierce Brosnan's character literally says "Welcome to Asia" in the trailer, as though he's not quite sure which country they're in), only to find his plans for a new life disrupted when a violent coup breaks out and the insurgents decide to track down any foreigners and eliminate them. The only hope for survival is the American embassy, and Jack decides to do whatever it takes to get there.
The trailer is framed exactly like a zombie movie, complete with a strong horror vibe... only instead of zombies, Jack and his family are trying to escape from a horde of... Asian people. Look, we're not saying this trailer is xenophobic, but it's not not xenophobic.
Owen Wilson No Escape
No Escape is actually set in Thailand and appears to be based on the real life events of political unrest that have taken place over the past century, which have included several coups d'etat. "Will the white Americans survive?" is probably not the best plot hook upon which to hang a depiction of these events, but perhaps No Escape is more sensitive and nuanced than its trailer gives it credit for.

“House of the Dragon” is asking viewers to pick a side in Season 2: Rhaenyra’s black faction or Alicent’s green team?
HBO dropped two unique trailers Thursday for Season 2, which premieres on June 16. One trailer focuses on Rhaenrya, Prince Daemon and their forces on Dragonstone, and the other is centered on the King’s Landing team of Alicent, her father Otto and her children King Aegon and Prince Aemond. Taking place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will officially mark the start of the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
In the wake of the Season 1 finale, in which Aemond murders Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon, war is imminent in Westeros. The blacks and the greens are both gathering their forces, dragons and new allies to face off in a bloody, fiery battle to the death. In King’s Landing, young King Aegon is doubling down on his claim to the Iron Throne, which his half-sister Rhaenyra views as her rightful inheritance from their late father. The trailers also tease a return to Winterfell, the snowy home of the Starks that is ruled over by Cregan Stark in the prequel.
The fantasy drama series is based on author George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” which details the history of House Targaryen. Season 1 followed Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) in her fight to be named the chosen heir of King Viserys I (Patty Considine) and the lead-up to the war of succession between the Targaryens.
The returning cast includes Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen, Eve Best as Rhaena Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole and Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon Targaryen.
New faces joining the series include Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh Hammer, Tom Bennett as Ulf and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne. Other newcomers are Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower and Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong. The cast also includes Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Phoebe Campbell, Bethany Antonia, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall and Matthew Needham.
Episode 1 of Season 1 drew nearly 10 million viewers, marking HBO’s biggest series premiere in history. The 10-episode first season of “House of the Dragon” aired from Aug. 21 to Oct. 23, 2022.
Martin is the co-creator and executive producer. Ryan Condal is co-creator, showrunner and executive producer. Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere and Vince Gerardis are executive producers.

HBO has released two trailers for Season 2 of House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spinoff series that wrapped its first season way back in October 2022, with Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen — fire in her eyes — making a decision to fight for the Iron Throne.
The new season is set to debut June 16, the network said today.

The new trailers ask fans to pick a side in the ongoing civil war between Green and Black Councils that are fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Green and Black trailers reflect those two perspectives in separate yet complementary halves of the same story.

Season 1 of House of the Dragon picked up eight Emmy nominations including Outstanding Drama Series (winning for its costumes) as it set up the story of House Targaryen almost 200 years before the events of GoT. By the end, the family after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) had been cleaved in two, with one faction led by Viserys’ wife Alicent (Cooke) and her son Aegon (Glynn-Carney) and the other behind his daughter — and original heir — Rhaenyra (D’Arcy) and her husband Prince Daemon (Smith).

FURIOSA Trailer 2 (2024) Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth

FURIOSA Trailer 2 (2024) Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, George Miller, Mad Max Furiosa

Many in show business share a feeling that “Furiosa” will be big — but at Warner Bros.’ presentation to global movie theater owners on Tuesday, attendees got a taste of just how colossal the “Mad Max” entry might be.
Director George Miller and his stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth made the trek to Las Vegas’ CinemaCon to show an extended look at the new film. The result was a sonic and visual onslaught of fire, metal, chainmail, war paint, crushed bones and bloodsoaked revenge. In other words, it played fucking awesome in the room. The overwhelming footage will likely be a sensation in the IMAX format, given the audience response.
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” tells the origin story of the warrior queen character portrayed by Charlize Theron in 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Taylor-Joy, a fashion darling with a prestigious resume, proved to the crowd inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace that she’s more than ready to get gritty. Miller’s footage told a story in four brief chapters: Furiosa’s kidnapping as a child and pledge to return home; her rebellion against her usurper; her mercenary training; and, thrillingly, the absolute path of destruction she leaves in her wake.
“It’s a story of relentless hope,” Taylor-Joy said. She also praised Miller’s production design, direction and VFX sensibilities as artful, saying he “painted every scene, and I mean he paints.” Hemsworth also shared a personal connection to the franchise “being Australian and watching these films with my family, particularly my father.”
The movie, which will world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, will hit theaters on May 24.
Warner Bros‘ first big splash at its 2024 CinemaCon presentation today was George Miller‘s Furiosa.
Taking the stage were Miller and stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, who were interviewed by Warner Bros co-bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
“To tell the story of Mad Max, we had to know where every vehicle, every character, every prop, every gesture came from,” Miller said. “We wrote backstories of Furiosa overall these years and Mad Max the year before. When Fury Road had enough traction, we figured we had to do Furiosa.”

The trio showed off an extended first look today. We see Hemswroth’s Dementus, who’s something of white linen-clad prophet. He’s brought a young Furiosa. They live in, natch, a radical world where we see Furiosa’s mother crucified. “I remember your face and your memory,” says Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa in what is a revenge tale. Lots of fire, lots of trucks, lots of loud in what appears even more attention to dystiopian desert landscapes, even more than 2015’s multi-Oscar-winning Mad Max: Fury Road. “My mother, my childhood — I want them back,” Furiosa says in the footage.
“This is the story of one woman’s relentless commitment to hope,” Taylor-Joy told the exhibitors gathered at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. “We see her go through everything, and that hope isn’t crushed. It was an honor to play this character.”
Miller said on why he chose the Emmy-winning Queen’s Gambit thespian: “Anya needed to be someone who you could spend all those months in the wasteland in. [She’s] someone is really resolute, brilliant and very smart. If the apocalypse came, she’d be one of the first I’d hang with.”
De Luca called Hemsworth’s Dementus “a lunatic” and “charismatic.”
Hemsworth said that he chose the role, a barker in a nomadic tribe, because “It comes down to the script initially, the conversation that George and I had –the script definitely informed was an individual, twisted…there had to be an element of charisma.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga world premieres May 15 at the Cannes Film Festival. Warner Bros then begins global rollout on May 22 before reaching North America on May 24.
As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. She will spend the rest of her life battling to get back home

Zach Braff and Vanessa Hudgens have a certain je ne sais quoi in their new movie.
French Girl stars the two actors in a tricky love triangle with costar Evelyne Brochu in the titular role. PEOPLE has the exclusive first trailer for the “heartwarming romantic comedy,” per an official synopsis.
Braff, 48, plays Gordon, a “hopeless romantic” who “finds his proposal plans are thrown into chaos when his girlfriend Sophie is swept away to Quebec by a job offer.”
But it’s not just any job offer, as the trailer soon reveals. The “sophisticated celebrity chef” offering employment is the headstrong Ruby, played by Hudgens, who also happens to be a former flame of Gordon’s girlfriend.

“Determined to keep their love alive, Gordon leaves Brooklyn for her hometown, only to find himself hilariously out of his depth in attempting to charm her hard-to-impress, French-speaking family,” adds the synopsis.

The trailer offers glimpses of Gordon’s attempt to assimilate into the customs of Québec City, Canada, and his would-be in-laws. He’s also clearly threatened by Ruby, who can be seen hosting soirées, hunting game and, at one point, belting graveside at a funeral.

Playing Braff’s onscreen father is William Fichtner, egging him on to put a ring on it. “Pop the question before she switches teams again!” he advises upon learning of Sophie’s former girlfriend.
Written and directed by filmmaking duo James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright, French Girl also stars Luc Picard, Antoine Olivier Pilon, Isabelle Vincent, Charlotte Aubin and Muriel Dutil.

Zach Braff Addresses Criticism of 'Garden State' Almost 20 Years After Its Release
In a joint statement to PEOPLE, Woods and Wright say the film “is our love letter to the place we were born and raised, the beautiful Canadian province of Quebec."
When the filmmaking team met, they add, “we were amazed by the similarities of our parents’ stories; English men who fell head over heels with French Canadian women and moved to La Belle Province to start their families. We were inspired to frame that story as a throwback romantic comedy that would celebrate the culture clash" between the U.S. and Canada.

“Quebec City, the province’s picturesque capital, became the perfect setting for our love story; enchanting landscapes, rich history, delicious food and more importantly, a wonderful people that revere family and tradition. This backdrop, coupled with the fast paced, ego-driven culinary world, infuses French Girl with the energy of a modern-day fairy tale.”
Following its premiere at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, French Girl is in theaters March 15
"Pop the question before she switches teams again!" Paramount Movies has revealed an official trailer for a romantic comedy called French Girl, a Canadian feature about a distinctly Canadian problem - what if you move up to a new city and almost everyone there speaks French, and you don't. Adorable. Or as they say in French, adorablé. Gordon, a hopeless romantic, finds his proposal plans are thrown into chaos when his girlfriend is swept away to Quebec City by a job offer from her ex, a sophisticated celebrity chef. Determined to keep their love alive, Gordon leaves Brooklyn for her hometown, only to find himself hilariously out of his depth in attempting to charm her hard-to-impress, French-speaking family. Zach Braff stars with Evelyne Brochu as his girlfriend Sophie, plus Luc Picard, Antoine Olivier Pilon, Isabelle Vincent, Charlotte Aubin, Muriel Dutil, with William Fichtner and Vanessa Hudgens. This looks mildly amusing but definitely something to watch streaming not in theaters. The saucy ex-girlfriend twist is an interesting one.
Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for James A. Woods & Nicolas Wright's French Girl, from YouTube:
French Girl Poster
Sweet Gordon (Zach Braff), an affable English teacher in Brooklyn, has beaten the odds; a French Girl has fallen in love with him and he's fallen even harder back. But their future is thrown into limbo when she interviews for an executive chef position in her hometown of Quebec City, Canada. There he finds himself hilariously out of his depth in attempting to charm her hard-to-impress, French-speaking family. To his dismay her future boss also happens to be her former lover, a celebrity Chef with oceanic eyes and a hit TV show. Good luck Gordon. French Girl is co-written and co-directed by Canadian actors turned filmmakers James A. Woods & Nicolas Wright, both making their feature directorial debut with this after lots of acting gigs previously. Produced by Valérie d'Auteuil and André Rouleau. Paramount will debut French Girl in select US theaters on March 15th, 2024, then on VOD starting March 19th, 2024. Anyone into this?

Is There a Trailer For 'How to Date Billy Walsh'?
Excitingly, yes! The official trailer for How to Date Billy Walsh was released on March 19, and you can watch it above. Taking place against the gorgeous British countryside backdrop, this trailer promises a checklist of all the best aspects of the high school rom-com sub-genre. From the 'never-been-kissed' subplot to the outrageously sculpted dreamboat and even a little pinch of Nick Frost for good measure, there is perhaps nothing that How to Date Billy Walsh doesn't have. Awkward, funny, and oh-so relatable, this trailer certainly makes the movie look unmissable for anyone with even a slither of interest in this genre.
Who is on the Cast of 'How to Date Billy Walsh'?
The cast for this British high-school romance is littered with talented young performers, not least the titular Billy Walsh, played by touted future star Tanner Buchanan. Although just 25 years old, Buchanan has already made quite the splash in his on-screen career, with performances in the likes of Designated Survivor, The Fosters, and Girl Meets World earning him plenty of admirers. However, it is perhaps his portrayal of Robby Keene in the hit series Cobra Kai that he is most fondly remembered for to date.
Joining Buchanan in leading How to Date Billy Walsh are both Sebastian Croft and Charithra Chandran, who play best friends Archie and Amelia, respectively. Although his filmography is short, Croft has already proven his ability in the British rom-com genre thanks to his portrayal of Ben Hope in Netflix giant Heartstopper. Charithra Chandran has too proven her talents in another romantic Netflix franchise in the shape of Bridgerton, with the 27-year-old playing the role of Edwina Sharma for eight episodes. Speaking about her upcoming starring turn in How to Date Billy Walsh to Porter, Chandran said:
"I’m excited to play a character that is Edwina’s polar opposite. Amelia is boisterous, loud, ungraceful and a bit of a menace. I’m looking forward to being in a movie where people are going to laugh a lot. We are living in such a jaded world right now and almost everything is polarizing, so I think, for me, while film and television has always been an environment that can be subversive and political, it also encourages people to come together, watch something and be entertained. How to Date Billy Walsh really feels like that – a film that everyone can come together and enjoy.”
Joining this trio in the How to Date Billy Walsh ensemble are the likes of newcomer Daisy Jelley as Amber, Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Guz Khan (Army Of Thieves), and Lucy Punch (Motherland).
What is 'How to Date Billy Walsh' About?
How to Date Billy Walsh cast BTSImage via Prime Video
Simply put, How to Date Billy Walsh is a quintessentially teenage rom-com. Friends since they were young, the now-adolescent Archie and Amelia seem inseparable, with their unrivaled friendship the source of both of their happiness. However, in a twist absolutely everyone saw coming, and delightfully so, Archie has been madly in love with Amelia for as long as he can remember. Alas, the end of school and, therefore, their childhood is on the horizon, so Archie knows he must soon pluck up the courage and declare his feelings, fearing they may never be spoken.
However, just as the moment feels ready to arrive, so does a brand-new exchange student in the form of American heartthrob Billy Walsh. Amelia quickly develops a pulsating crush on Billy, leaving Archie feeling like his life is over. Not one to give up, Archie plots, plans, and schemes to try and win her back and keep the pair apart. Will his plans work, or will he push the two closer together and risk his own lifelong friendship in the process?

Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, I Saw the TV Glow centers around two people bonding over the cancellation of their favorite television series. Something that is all too familiar these days.

After the series is cancelled by the network, strange things begin to happen to Owen and Maddy, sending them on a journey that will have them constantly questioning their reality. What began as an innocent passion for a television program turns into something capable of altering their perspectives, putting them at risk of falling victim to the horrors present in I Saw the TV Glow.
Jane Schoenbrun is no stranger to diving deep into scary stories, with the filmmaker working with a variety of horrifying threats throughout their career. Before crafting the unpredictable twists and turns of I Saw the TV Glow, the director wrote We're All Going to the World's Fair—a coming-of-age tale about a teenager who starts noticing unusual events after participating in a dangerous viral challenge. Schoenbrun clearly likes to take familiar aspects of our reality and turn them into horrifying, cautionary tales.
Where Have You Seen The Charismatic Leads of 'I Saw the TV Glow'?
Justice Smith has had a busy couple of years with his work in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the Jurassic World franchise, in addition to I Saw the TV Glow and The American Society of Magical Negroes, which both come out this year. Similarly, Brigette Lundy-Paine was last seen on the big screen in Bill & Ted Face the Music and Bombshell, and they starred in Netflix's long-running series Atypical.

What happens when the line between reality and TV becomes a little too blurred?
For two outcast teens played by Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine in “I Saw the TV Glow,” a cult favorite horror series comes to life with haunting consequences. Writer/director Jane Schoenbrun‘s A24 feature was one of IndieWire’s must-see films at Sundance 2024 and landed a coveted “A” rating from IndieWire critic David Ehrlich.
The film, which homages everything from the eerie vibes of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks: The Return” to late-night Nickelodeon ’90s television, follows teens who “bond over their shared love of a scary television show, but the boundary between TV and reality begins to blur after it is mysteriously canceled,” per the official synopsis.
Helena Howard, Lindsey Jordan, Phoebe Bridgers, Fred Durst, Danielle Deadwyler, and Sloppy Jane round out the cast.
Writer/director Schoenbrun’s feature debut “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” premiered at Sundance 2021 and was a breakout indie hit. Acclaimed out of the Premieres section at Sundance 2024, “I Saw the TV Glow” is produced by A24 and Emma Sone’s Fruit Tree banner along with Dave McCary and Ali Herting. Sarah Winshall with Smudge Films and Sam Intili also produce.

Schoenbrun previously opened up about her path to filmmaking with IndieWire, saying, “I kept finding that every screenplay I wrote was about trans shit. This was before I knew I was trans, which is ridiculous. The warning signs that the universe sends you are so loud, or that your subconscious sends you.”
She also helmed a Lucy Dacus music video in March 2023; Dacus and “I Saw the TV Glow” star Bridgers are both part of the band boygenius.
The IndieWire review for “I Saw the TV Glow” compared the sophomore feature to Gregg Araki, with critic Ehrlich writing that the movie was shot with the “ultra-vivid resolution of a recurring dream.”
The review reads, “It marries the queer radicality of a Gregg Araki film with the lush intoxication of a Gregory Crewdson photo, and finds Schoenbrun holding on to every inch of their vision as they make the leap from outsider artist to A24-stamped auteur. This is a movie that knows it will be seen (or was at least financed with that expectation), and yet, to an even greater degree than Schoenbrun’s debut, it’s also a movie about how the things people watch can have the power to see them in return. Even the parts of themselves they might be hiding from. Even the parts of themselves they aren’t ready to name yet.”
“I Saw the TV Glow” premieres May 3 in theaters from A24. Check out the trailer below.

"I like to joke around. I like to keep it light. Obviously, it was very easy to tap into the heavy material because we were surrounded by all of this decor, by the sets, by the Holocaust symbols, the swastikas, and everything, and so we felt completely immersed and so it was very easy for me to tap into the gravity of it all and to just feel scared and terrified, sad, all these emotions," she told the outlet in September 2023.
Fathom Events will release Irena's Vow in theaters in the U.S. on April 15 and April 16 for two days only on behalf of Quiver Distribution, and across Canada on April 19.

It’s no great slight to “Scoop” to say that it’s no more compelling than the real-life news broadcast on which it pivots. It’s also no less compelling than said broadcast, which was, after all, a doozy: the 2019 episode of “BBC Newsnight” in which anchor Emily Maitlis interviewed Prince Andrew about his friendship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It was a coup that saw the Duke of York roundly convicted in the court of public opinion, and led to him being stripped of his royal titles. But Philip Martin‘s slick, pacy Netflix film isn’t especially interested in the fallout, or indeed in the Prince’s experience at all — instead procedurally tracing the media machinations and negotiations that enabled the interview in the first place, and pointedly centering the newswomen, on screen and off, who made it all happen.
Underlining the enduring impact of the story, “Scoop” is the first of two projects this year inspired by the interview. The second, the Amazon miniseries “A Very Royal Scandal,” starring Ruth Wilson and Michael Sheen, will boast Maitlis’ own blessing as an executive producer. Martin’s film is differently authorized, handing the same credit to the less celebrated party whom it takes as its effective protagonist: Sam McAlister, the former “Newsnight” booker who doggedly secured the Prince’s participation in the interview, and from whose memoir Peter Moffat and Geoff Bussetil’s script has been drawn. It’s an instructive shift in perspective, making “Scoop” the story of a scrappy underdog fighting two mighty British institutions — not just the House of Windsor, in all its impenetrably protected prestige, but the BBC itself, initially presented here as a staid, even classist organization, hostile to intrepid outsiders.
In a canny stroke of casting, McAlister is played by Billie Piper, the former teen pop star who overturned a lightweight public image to become a heavily laureled actor of stage and screen. All bottle-blonde curls and unsubtly flaunted designer labels, she enters the film with brash something-to-prove energy, striding into the BBC headquarters to the strains of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” — which just so happens to be her ringtone too.
A single mother with proudly working-class roots, McAlister is briskly good at her job, netting A-list talent galore for “Newsnight,” but her liberal colleagues chafe against what they perceive as her tabloid approach to news journalism — with the well-spoken, conscientious Maitlis (Gillian Anderson, in a performance of witty mimicry, but human resolve too) embodying old-school BBC values. (That Maitlis remains the only “Newsnight” presenter to have attended a state school goes unmentioned here: “Scoop” can flatten certain details in pursuit of a larger point.)
“Why don’t they see me as one of them?” McAlister sighs to her mother, while simultaneously berating her BBC cohorts for their principled snobbery, vocally wishing they had “half the instincts and a quarter of the contacts of the average tabloid paparazzo.” Specifically, she’s thinking of New York-based shutterbug Jae Donnelly (Connor Swindells), who’s been monitoring Epstein for years — and whose gotcha 2010 snapping of Prince Andrew in conversation with the disgraced financier is tensely portrayed in the film’s pre-credit prologue.
Nine years later, the men’s high-powered friendship is hardly news, but McAlister senses another shoe about to drop, courting the Prince’s private secretary Amanda Thirsk (Keeley Hawes) for interview access. Thirsk plays coy, while “Newsnight” producer Esmé Wren (Romola Garai) isn’t sure they have a story. When Epstein is arrested for sex trafficking, both women take McAlister a lot more seriously.
If Piper gives “Scoop’s” first half a doughty, forceful heroine, it’s merely the fault of McAlister’s job description that her grip on the narrative loosens once the interview is fixed, and the emphasis shifts to the more public showdown between Maitlis and the Prince. Played with just the right temperature of dry, dour aggression by Rufus Sewell — his knife-like features convincingly blunted by prosthetics — he’s as foggy and evasive as Maitlis is precisely focused, but just snappish enough to bring some dramatic fizz and friction to an encounter we’ve already seen play out.
Martin and editor Kristina Hetherington cleverly tease out the ultimate dynamic of the broadcast, at one point cross-cutting between their respective rehearsals of questions and answers, before the film succumbs to the simpler pleasures of pop-cultural reenactment: There’s a tingle of camp to Anderson and Sewell’s faithful readings of exchanges that have already been endlessly memed, from the memorably banal “Pizza Express in Woking” alibi to the ludicrous no-sweat defense.
At this point, “Scoop” can offer no surprises to any viewers who were remotely acquainted with news media five years ago, though the simultaneous absurdity and horror of the interview — leaving its royal subject at once defeated and recalcitrant — startles us once more. Condensing the aftermath into a few short scenes and title cards, plus a montage of aghast social media reactions, the script finds a sense of victory in Andrew’s subsequent royal demotion, cheering the integrity and influence of the national broadcaster in holding power to account. (It’s a light irony that this celebration comes bound in a Netflix production.)
Amid the uplift, McAlister’s concerns of class discrimination within the BBC’s ranks are briefly set to one side — yet the takeaway here is that the Royal Family’s untouchable elite status endures, with the Prince at once disciplined and protected by his own, yet to face criminal charges. The frustration of “Scoop” is also its point: It vividly conjures the adrenaline and awe of one hour of dynamite television, but can bring us no closer to complete truth, or complete justice.
How Prince Andrew’s infamous friendship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein led to the downfall of the Duke of York in the most chaotic manner possible is a story so complicated and dumbfounding that you almost feel sceptical at the thought of a film taking a crack on it in just over 100 minutes. But Netflix’s Scoop, directed by Philip Martin, is headstrong in anchoring it to one major objective: to take a clinical look at what went behind Andrew’s 2019 BBC Newsnight interview with lead anchor Emily Maitlis — which played a crucial role in the “Queen’s favourite son” stepping down — from the eyes of Sam McAlister, the former Newsnight editor and interview booker who secured the interview.
‘The Diplomat’ series review: Keri Russell headlines cracking political drama on diplomatic relations and defunct relationships
Adapting McAlister’s book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews to the screen, screenwriters Peter Moffat and Geoff Bussetil pull off quite a few deft writing choices in this tricky narration. The most fascinating of them all is where the film begins to unfold the story, when paparazzi photographer Jae Donnelly (played here by Connor Swindells) clicks the infamous picture of Andrews (a prosthetic-heavy Rufus Sewell) and Epstein (Colin Wells) walking together at Central Park, New York, in 2010.
Dozens more Jeffrey Epstein documents are now public. Here’s what we know so far
It’s a screenwriting move that you understand only retrospectively — Donnelly hardly features in the film — when you realise the key role that the photographs played in what happened to Andrew and Epstein. Donnelly’s photographs not only captured what Andrew admittedly regrets in his equation with Epstein (meeting with him even four years after the sexual abuse accusations), but the usage of that image by media over the years plays a crucial role in how Andrew was seen by the people before McAllister (Billie Piper in a remarkable turn) uses public opinion to urge Amanda Thirsk (Keeley Hawes), Andrew’s private secretary, to do the interview to set things straight.
Interestingly, it was again another photograph, of Andrew with Virginia Giuffre (an alleged victim of Epstein who claims to have been trafficked for Andrew when she was 17), and Ghislaine Maxwell (Epstein’s girlfriend who helped him traffic young girls), that proves to have become a nightmare for Andrew, one which Maitlis (Gillian Anderson) grills Andrew over in her interview.

Runtime: 103 minutes
Storyline: How the BBC’s Newsnight team secured their famous 2019 interview with Prince Andrew on his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the allegations that were made against him
Scoop works largely as a fantastic exhibit of how through news media and social media, the visual medium plays a crucial role in adjudication at the court of public opinion and to get justice meted out even in the court of the Royal family.
In a film that is largely told through McAllister’s eyes, the one scene where the perspective justifiably shifts to that of the public view is the coveted interview with Maitlis that the film has been building towards. This is a stellar sequence featuring two terrific performers recreating an abridged version of the real interview. Sewell as the greying, pale, impassive Duke of York captures even the frailer details of a man who mumbles his way into trouble, while Anderson imbues what must be going in the nerves of a woman whose career hangs in the balance as she asks a senior HRH if he had sex with underage girls.

From an attempt to “set the tone right,” the one-hour interview becomes a nightmare for Andrew; Maitlis takes a tip from McAlister to “give him the space and let him talk,” and he talks, in an episode that is described as “a plane crashing into an oil tanker, causing a tsunami, triggering a nuclear explosion.” Andrew’s apathy, self-centredness and the “no-sweating” debacle during the interviews led to the removal of his royal duties, which was followed by a civil lawsuit by Giuffre, and then his eventual disappearance from public life.
Prince Andrew settles sex assault lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre
Scoop is a racy, dramatised telling of a sensational story, but the film refuses to be reduced to just that. In the world of post-truth journalism, in which McAllister says, “We mistake talking to ourselves as news,” her defiance in the newsroom and what she does about it says that idealism always thrives in pockets of opportunities. Scoop may not make you romanticise your idealism, but it certainly asks you not to let it be deterred.
