Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice is back for more undead mischief in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. debuted the first teaser trailer for director Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel to his 1988 classic.

Keaton, who starred in the original movie as the titular green-haired ghost, is back for the sequel more than 30 years later, as well as original cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also stars Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Jenna Ortega, the latter of whom previously worked with Burton, 65, on the Netflix series Wednesday. Monica Bellucci, who is dating Burton, will also appear in the movie.

According to a synopsis, "After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened."

"With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem."

The movie is Burton's first feature film since he directed Disney's 2019 live-action remake of Dumbo. When the director spoke with The Independent about the upcoming sequel back in September, he said he "tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets" for the follow-up.

"It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies," he told the outlet.

O'Hara, 69, recently teased to PEOPLE that she filmed one-on-one scenes with Keaton, 72, for the upcoming project. "I'd been in the first movie in group scenes with Michael, but in this, I had an actual moment where the two of us just...," she said. "And it was just so crazy and thrilling, really to just be face-to-face with Beetlejuice.”

“He looks the same,” she joked. “Beetlejuice has aged very well.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in theaters Sept. 6.

After 36 years, Beetlejuice has finally come back to haunt you.

Warner Bros. has released the trailer for Tim Burton’s follow-up to his 1988 cult classic horror-comedy “Beetlejuice,” with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the ghoulish title character. The sequel, officially titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is set for release on Sept. 6.

In addition to Keaton, original “Beetlejuice” Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are back as Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively. Jenna Ortega rounds out the family as newcomer Astrid Deetz. Monica Bellucci plays Beetlejuice’s wife and Willem DeFoe stars as a “police officer in the afterlife” and former “B movie action star,” whose acting skills help him as an afterlife detective. Justin Theroux also joins the sequel in a new role.

The original “Beetlejuice” followed a deceased couple trying to haunt the Deetz family out of their new home with the help of the eccentric ghost Beetlejuice. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis starred as the Maitlands while Jeffrey Jones, O’Hara and Ryder made up the Deetz family. The movie developed a cult following after its release and later spawned a hit musical adaptation on Broadway.

Burton announced on social media last November that he had finished filming the “Beetlejuice” sequel after a months-long delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. In September, he revealed to The Independent that he only had “a day and a half” of filming remaining prior to the shutdown.

“I feel grateful we got what we got,” Burton said at the time. “Literally, it was a day and a half. We know what we have to do. It is 99 percent done.”

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators of the Ortega-starring Netflix series “Wednesday,” penned the script for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
