BLACK MOM USES HER CARRY GUN TO DEFEND HERSELF, 2 YEAR OLD SON, FROM CARJACKER
'It’s locked and loaded': Mother, Iraq veteran pulls gun on man trying to get into car
NEW ORLEANS — A mother and veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan said she had to do something she never dreamed of.
While stuck in traffic on Interstate 10 in New Orleans, she said someone tried to get in her car.
So, her training kicked in and she pulled out a gun.
Charise Taylor said the incident happened while her 2-year-old son was in the car.
"You shouldn't have to navigate your own city like a war zone. It's un-American,” Taylor said. “The crime is out of control and it's terrifying. At this point, having to use the same tactics in an American city that you use in Iraq and Afghanistan simply to navigate through the city it's scary and I'm not the only mom feeling this way."

NO CHARGES TO BE FILED IN I-275 ROAD RAGE SHOOTING, PROSECUTOR SAYS
COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - No charges will be filed against one of the drivers involved in an I-275 road rage shooting on Jan. 21.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters explained Thursday the physical evidence at the scene showed Eric Duke, 47, “escalated the situation to the point where deadly force was warranted.”
Witnesses on I-275 told police Duke and the other driver were driving recklessly, according to Deters.
The witnesses said Duke forced the other driver across multiple lanes and into the high-speed lane.
At the point, Deters said witnesses claimed Duke got in front of the other vehicle and slammed on his brakes, forcing the driver to stop.
Duke got out of his van, approached the other vehicle, and tried to get inside, Deters said.
The other driver warned Duke he had a gun, the prosecutor explained.
Duke managed to hit the driver in the mouth, and the man fired one shot at the 47-year-old.
Duke was shot in the head and died, investigators said.
The man said the shooting was an act of self-defense when he called 911.
“911 please, a man just totally stopped in front and was trying to drag me out the car, and I freaking shot him because he was going to f****** hurt me,” the 911 caller said.
Prosecutor Deters said the evidence is consistent with the man’s claims.

LEGALLY ARMED JEWELRY STORE OWNER THWARTS SMASH-AND-GRAB ROBBERY ATTEMPT IN SAN BRUNO
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - A legally armed jewelry store owner in San Bruno thwarted a smash-and-grab robbery attempt by five men at his shop, authorities said.
The incident happened Friday around 1:06 p.m. at Maaz Jewelers, which is located inside the Tanforan Mall, police said.
Authorities said five men who appeared to be in their teens or early 20s approached the store and one of them entered with a crowbar.
Store surveillance video shows the suspect using the crowbar to smash a jewelry display case when the owner, Usman Bhatti, comes up and tries to pull the suspect away.
Officers said the suspect then raised the crowbar as if he was going to hit the shop owner.
That's when the Bhatti, who has a concealed carry permit, pulled out a gun and pointed it toward the suspect while yelling for him to stop, police said.
The suspect then ran out of the store when a second suspect, who was part of the group and standing near the entrance of the store, pulled out a gun and pointed it at Bhatti.
Authorities said the store owner raised his firearm again and pointed it at the man with the gun.
The suspect ran toward the group and all the suspects fled toward a department store where they managed to getaway.
The store owner never fired his weapon during the incident and neither did the suspect who was armed with a gun.
"I’m not trying to be a hero or a macho man..it just happened very quick and I had no choice," Bhatti told KTVU.

PHILADELPHIA STORE EMPLOYEE FIRES BACK AFTER BEING SHOT: POLICE
Police Say One Of The Suspects Shot The Employee. She Was Hit At Least Two Times In The Upper Thigh Area.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia store clerk fired back after being shot by an armed robbery suspect, police say.
It happened just before 4 a.m. Tuesday in a variety store on the 5500 block of Torresdale Avenue in Wissinoming.
Police say two armed male suspects entered the store and went behind the counter. They pointed their guns at the 32-year-old female clerk.
Police say one of the suspects shot the employee. She was hit at least two times in the upper thigh area.
After being shot, police say the employee took out a gun of her own and fired several shots at the suspects.
A total of seven shots were fired at the scene, police say.
The employee and the store manager told police she struck one of the suspects causing him to drop his gun.
"We believe that the reason one of the perpetrators dropped his weapon on the scene is that he may have been struck by gunfire," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott said.
The store clerk was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.
"She was a brave, young woman involved in a shootout with two males that were armed with guns. She stood her ground. We're hoping for the best for her," Small said.

STATE’S ATTORNEY: NO CHARGES FILED AGAINST CLERK WHO SHOT ALLEGED ROBBERS AT ROCK ISLAND VAPE SHOP
Charges will not be filed at this time against a clerk at Blackhawks Tobacco & Vape Shop who shot two alleged robbers, killing one, Tuesday night, Rock Island County State’s Attorney Dora Villarreal said.
“After a preliminary review of surveillance video and witness interviews, it appears the use of force by the employee was justified as self-defense and for the defense of others inside the store during the robbery,” she said in a media release posted on her Facebook page Wednesday night.
Around 10:54 p.m. Tuesday, the business at 2733 18th Avenue in Rock Island was robbed by three males, Villarreal said. One of them pointed a gun at employees inside the store.
One employee was able to get a gun kept by the store owner for protection because the store had been robbed twice in recent months, Villarreal said.
The employee fired the gun several times and struck two of the alleged robbers.
One of them died from their injuries, while the other is being treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Villarreal said she is preparing to file aggravated robbery charges against the two remaining robbery suspects and that additional charges are being considered as the case remains under investigation.
