Endometrial Cancer Signs & Symptoms (& Why They Occur)
Endometrial Cancer (also known as Endometrial carcinoma or Corpus cancer) is a cancer of the inner lining of the uterus known as the endometrium. Female patients (and patients with a uterus) are susceptible to endometrial cancer. Endometrial Cancer is caused by high levels of estrogen for prolonged periods of time or from “unopposed” estrogen, which can occur in some medical conditions and with the use of certain medications. Endometrial Cancer can occur in two types (Type 1 and Type 2), with each type causing particular signs and symptoms. In this lesson, we discuss the signs and symptoms of Endometrial Cancer and why signs and symptoms occur.

Endometrial Cancer | Risk Factors, Pathogenesis, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention
Endometrial Cancer (also known as Endometrial Carcinoma or Corpus Cancer) is a cancer of the endometrium, which is the inner lining of the uterus where embryo implantation occurs. There are two types of Endometrial Cancer, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 is by far the most common type, and this type is due to excessive exposure to estrogen. Endometrial Cancer starts out as an abnormal but precancerous thickening of the endometrium, known as endometrial hyperplasia. There are various risk factors for getting endometrial cancer, including early menarche, late menopause and having polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In this lesson, we discuss all of the risk factors, the different types of endometrial cancer, the signs and symptoms, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.

“Colon Cancer That Runs in Families” (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis), APC Gene, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment
Familial Adenomatous Polyposis is an autosomal dominant inherited condition involving significantly increased risk of colorectal or colon cancer. Familial Adenomatous Polyposis can lead to colon cancer very early on in life, roughly by the age of 40 in most individuals. Familial Adenomatous Polyposis is caused by a mutation in the APC gene, which itself is involved in a biochemical pathway known as the Wnt-B catenin signaling pathway. Familial Adenomatous Polyposis often has no symptoms until the onset of colorectal cancer. In this lesson, we discuss the pathophysiology behind with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis occurs, how it is diagnosed and how it is treated.

What To Avoid When Taking Pantoprazole (& Omeprazole) | Foods, Natural Supplements, Medications
Pantoprazole (along with Omeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medication used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD; acid reflux) to reduce acid reflux or “heartburn” symptoms. These medications inhibit proton pumps, leading to reduced acidification of the stomach. However, reducing the acidification of the stomach can lead to particular side effects. Additionally, certain foods, beverages, substances, herbal medications, and prescription medications can interact with pantoprazole (and other PPIs) to cause increased side effects.

High Platelets (Thrombocytosis) Signs & Symptoms | Rapid Review
Thrombocytosis is a condition involving abnormally high levels of platelets (thrombocytes). Platelets are small cell fragments from a larger cell called megakaryocytes. Platelets are important in clotting as they are used to form platelet plugs. Thrombocytosis can occur due to many underlying conditions. Thrombocytosis can be separated into primary and secondary thrombocytosis. High platelet levels can cause a variety of vasomotor signs and symptoms, including headaches and chest pain. Diagnosis involves blood work and assessing for underlying causes, and treatment involves particular medications if it is deemed to be primary thrombocytosis.

Beef Tapeworm (Taeniasis) | How It Infects, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention
Another lesson in the Tapeworm Infection Series!
Tapeworms are gastrointestinal parasites that are flat in appearance and can look like a “piece of tape”. Many species infect humans, including Taenia saginata, which is known as the beef tapeworm. Taenia saginata can infect humans through consumption of raw or undercooked beef that contains taenia cysticerci. Once infected, the cysticeri develop into an adult tapeworm, attach to the gastrointestinal mucosa and absorb or “steal” nutrients from the patient. In this lesson, we discuss the signs and symptoms of infection with this tapeworm species, and how this tapeworm infection is diagnosed and treated and ways to prevent infection.
