Intake Manifold, Supercharger and NITROUS | Banks Built Ep 32
Our supercharged Duramax swapped '66 C20 pickup will be unveiled in AMSOIL's booth at SEMA, November 2-5, and we've got a ton of work to do to get it there. While Erik's cutting and welding the giant 5" stainless steel intake tubes, Gale and Matt put the finishing touches on the intake manifold, including nitrous oxide (NOS) injector ports. Why? Because nitrous, of course!

Jeep Wrangler owner reacts to tuned EcoDiesel
Just like most Jeep owners, Sandy couldn't leave it stock. So, Sandy did what most Jeep owners do—he started with the basics: suspension lift, wheels, larger tires, and a heavy-duty steel bumper. But with that added weight and rotating mass came a loss of acceleration and responsiveness. Sandy heard positive reviews about the Derringer and PedalMonster and wanted to give the equipment a try.

Designing the most advanced digital dashboard | BANKS BUILT Ep 31
If you’ve ever seen the dashboard in a ’66 Chevy pickup, you know how ugly it is. So, it’s time for an upgrade. We’re proud to announce we’ve partnered with MoTeC to display valuable data from LokJaw’s supercharged 6.6L Duramax and Allison 1000 6-speed transmission. Gale, Matt, and Quinn design and plan the new digital dashboard, complete with a MoTeC C127 and four iDash DataMonsters.
The C127 has been designed with powerful functionality and an impressive, 7-inch high-resolution, full-color screen. Numerous selectable layouts are supplied with configurable channels, labels, and color schemes. One of the many reasons we chose the C127 is for its flexibility to treat our screen as a blank canvas and design our own layout with unique graphics that’ll match the iDashes as well as LokJaw’s rusty-meets-modern aesthetic. The MoTeC display will be fed data acquired by a MoTeC M142 ECM and a myriad of Banks pressure, temperature, and speed sensors.

Engineering custom wheels for our SUPERCHARGED DIESEL Chevy | BANKS BUILT Ep 29
We're working with Sparc Industries to design and manufacturing LokJaw’s custom wheels. Here’s why. Our ’66 Chevy C20 pickup will lay frame thanks to the Roadster Shop bagged chassis. But this presents a problem. We need special wheels that no one makes 8-lug wheels with our specs. The front wheels can’t exceed 8.5” wide if the guys intend to have any acceptable turning radius. And, the rear wheels must have the perfect offset or they’ll crash into the inside of the bed when it’s lowered. Back in 2012, Jonathan Peace, his father and brother, approached Gale Banks to build a twin-turbo engine for their Thunderbird. But this was no ordinary Thunderbird. The car won the coveted Ridler Award. There is no higher honor in the custom car industry. Judges pour over every nut and bolt. No detail is too small. When you’ve won the Ridler, your car is the best of the best. After graduating from the prestigious Art Center College of Design, Jonathan Peace opened Sparc Industries, offering custom steering and road wheels for high-end builds. Today, his line of billet aluminum steering wheels is priced affordably so anyone with a vintage vehicle can own one. Most recently, Jonathan began offering road wheel design and manufacturing services which is where this video begins.

How to fix turbo lag in a Jeep Wrangler 2.0L turbo
JEEP owner reacts to PedalMonster throttle booster after installing them in his 2021 Wrangler 2.0L turbo.
Kris bought a new Jeep Wrangler JL 2.0L turbo back in 2019 and ever since then, he's been searching for a way to get rid of his turbo lag. Although he loved the power and torque of the engine, the lack of responsiveness was making it less and less fun to drive. After extensive research, Kris decided to install the new patented PedalMonster throttle booster which increases throttle response.

1989 GMC S-15 Syclone Land Speed Record
Banks history is laden with trophies and awards for its accomplishments in gasoline performance. One example was the naturally aspirated GMC S-15 Syclone. That’s not to say that the original idea wasn’t to turbocharge the engine in the Syclone. On the contrary, Banks originally proposed things that would have made the pickup a completely different animal.
The original configuration was supposed to be a full-size Sierra using all-wheel drive for better traction and more evenly distributed power on the salt. The half-ton pickup would have been powered by a twin-turbocharged big-block 502. Those plans were squashed during a meeting about the record attempt with Chevy executives saying if there was going to be a full-sized performance truck, it was going to be under their banner. GMC reps said that they didn’t make all-wheel-drive trucks and that none of the trucks they sold were turbocharged. The GM top brass wanted the truck’s image to be represented as a hopped-up stock truck that went to the salt. Banks was left the S-15 mini-truck powered by a naturally aspirated V-6.
The largest engine displacement available in an S-15 was a 4.3-liter. Since GM had ideas for power other than Gale’s twin-turbo V8 monster could produce, they decided to bore and stroke the stock V6 engine to 5.0 liters. However, they still needed more power. Banks came up with a rather ingenious way to “supercharge” the air into the intake… naturally, and with no forced induction. The outside air was rammed in from two locations in the front of the truck and then passed through heat exchangers running circulated ice water from a tank in the bed of the truck and then into a specialized intake manifold. The temperature of the intake air dramatically decreased by 40° resulting in increased power throughout the entire run.
In the Summer of 1989, the Syclone went on to take five records, including an FIA International World Speed Record of 194 MPH.

Digitizing our '66 Chevy | BANKS BUILT Ep 23
The Banks team 3-D scans the front end, wheels, tires, and chassis in the raised and lowered positions in order to model all components Solidworks. This will allow us to design the front engine accessory drive (FEAD), intake air system, and hood hinges in the computer, precisely. Although setup time is increased, designing these parts virtually will dramatically reduce fabrication time. It also ensures that everything will fit right the first time. We then scan the bed and merge the inner and outer sheet metal into one unit. In theory, this will allow us to cut the bed in half in the computer and design the dump bed structure, and know it’ll work before we even turn on a cutting tool.

What's it like to drive with a PedalMonster throttle booster?
It's exhilarating! PedalMonster gives you the throttle response that the vehicle's manufacturer should have given you. The new patented PedalMonster is the smartest and safest throttle booster available. It's the first-ever OBD-II data-connected intelligent throttle response controller for cars and trucks. When Gale and the Banks Engineering team discovered that all other throttle boosters were unsafe, they set out to make a better one.
City, Sport, and Track modes provide 10 unique levels each of increasing intensity for both manual and automatic transmissions, making modern drive-by-wire cars and trucks feel more responsive than ever! Dead pedal is a thing of the past.
PedalMonster’s internal circuitry is powered by the reliable +12 volt OBD-II connector. Competitive devices draw current directly from the low-overhead +5 volt throttle pedal circuit, often causing a check engine light and reduced engine power. And, after removal, no footprint is left behind, making it warranty-friendly.
PedalMonster seamlessly integrates with Banks tuners, monitors, and supports all popular cars and trucks, domestic and foreign, stock and tuned! Available as a stand-alone module, for use with existing iDash, with iDash SuperGauge, and iDash DataMonster.

Cold air intake wizardry | BANKS BUILT Ep 22
After Erik and Matt drop the cab of our '66 Chevy C20 pickup onto the new Roadster Shop chassis, they're joined by Gale who maps out the high-flow intake system using technology from the Banks' GMC Type-R road race truck. His plan is to use two Big-Ass filters, found in our Ram-Air intake system for the 2017-19 Duramax L5P. The goal is to ram as much air into the nose of the truck as possible, ramming air into the intake system. But squeezing these massive filters into the engine bay will be no easy task.

Banks Pontiac GTA sets world record at 283 mph in 1987
From the Banks video archives comes an interview with Gale Banks himself talking about the company’s record-setting Pontiac GTA back in 2000. Powered by a twin-turbo 454 ci producing 1,800hp + and 2,000tq + the Banks / Pontiac Trans Am GTA reached a terminal speed of 283 mph made the Trans Am the world’s fastest stock-bodied passenger car on gasoline. Well before @bugatti, @koenigsegg, or @hennesseyperformance were breaking records. The Banks Trans Am GTA would hold the record for the next 10 years. The historic run was captured by an in-cabin video where you can hear the engine churning and the sound of the innovative Banks Shuttle Valve blow-off system working to keep the turbo spinning at full speed between shifts.

Auto shop teacher uses BANKS RAM-AIR DIFF COVER as teaching aid
Kyle Platt teaches Automotive Technology Level 2 at Millville High School, in Millville, New Jersey. Recently, the ASE/NATEF certified technician found himself teaching students about gearing. But rather than removing the rear differential cover only to put it back on after the lecture, he decided to show his students how the cover itself could be upgraded to better cool the lubricant and gears. The subject of the diff cover transplant was a 2018 Silverado 2500 HD with a 14-bolt American Axle housing and 11" ring gear.
Ram-Air diff covers outcool flat-back aftermarket diff covers by 5X! They're available for 2001-2019 Chevy/GMC, 2003-2018 RAM with AAM 11.5" or 11.8" 14-bolt rear axle as well as 1985-2020 Ford Sterling Axle 12-bolt with 10.25/10.5 ring gear. Banks recommends AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic Extreme Pressure Gear Lube.
