The Panzerkampfwagen III, commonly known as the Panzer III, was a medium tank developed in the 1930s by Germany, and was used extensively in World War II. The official German ordnance designation was Sd.Kfz. 141. It was intended to fight other armoured fighting vehicles and serve alongside and support the similar Panzer IV, which was originally designed for infantry support. However, as the Germans faced the formidable T-34, more powerful anti-tank guns were needed, and since the Panzer IV had more development potential with a larger turret ring, it was redesigned to mount the long-barrelled 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun. The Panzer III effectively swapped roles with the Panzer IV, as from 1942 the last version of Panzer III mounted the 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 that was better suited for infantry support. Production of the Panzer III ceased in 1943. Nevertheless, the Panzer III's capable chassis provided hulls for the Sturmgeschütz III assault gun until the end of the war.

The Panzer I was a light tank produced by Nazi Germany in the 1930s. The name is short for the German Panzerkampfwagen I. Design of the Panzer I began in 1932, and mass production began in 1934. Intended only as a training tank to familiarize the German Army with the concept of armored warfare, the Panzer I saw action in Spain. during the Spanish Civil War, in Poland, France, the Soviet Union and North Africa during World War II, and in China during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Experience with the Panzer I during the Spanish Civil War helped German tank forces invade Poland in 1939 and France in 1940. By 1941, the Panzer I chassis design was used as the basis for tank destroyers and assault guns. Throughout its service history, there have been attempts to modernize the Panzer I, including from foreign countries, to extend the life of the design. He continued to serve in the Spanish armed forces until 1954.

So far, humans have been lucky not to face global catastrophes like those that wiped out 99% of all other species. Humans have become the most powerful species on this planet, but it is easy to forget that the forces that destroyed many of our ancestors are still at work. In this final program, "Catastrophe" describes key events over the past 75,000 years. During this time, people were exposed to a supervolcano that almost devastated entire regions of the Earth. The ensuing Ice Age, which covered Europe in kilometer-thick ice sheets, is said to have prevented the development of a complex civilization, and the ensuing cosmic catastrophe is believed to have changed the lives of the first inhabitants of North America forever.

Dinosaurs became the rulers of the Earth about 230 million years ago, eventually dominating all other species and pushing mammals into the shadows. But 65 million years ago, their planet was rocked by another massive event when, seemingly out of nowhere, the mighty dinosaurs were wiped off the face of the Earth. But without this devastating disaster, people would not be here today.
This film explores the clues that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs and ultimately led to the evolution of humans. Cutting-edge scientists, paleontologists and geologists are looking into what could be causing it and charting the story behind the widely held theory that Earth has once again been struck by a deadly asteroid.

"Wild Weasel" is the code name assigned by the United States Armed Forces, particularly the United States Air Force, to any type of aircraft equipped with anti-radiation missiles and tasked with suppressing enemy air defenses by destroying radars and surface targets. into the air Missile launchers of enemy air defense systems. "Wild Weasel's first success occurred shortly after Wild Weasel's first mission on December 20, 1965, when Captains Al Lamb and Jack Donovan captured the facility during a Rolling Thunder strike on the train station at Yen Bai, approximately 75 miles northwest of Hanoi."
The Wild Weasel concept was developed by the US Air Force in 1965, following the introduction of Soviet air defense systems and their downing of American strike aircraft over North Vietnam. The program was led by General Kenneth Dempster.
Wild Weasel tactics and techniques began to be developed in 1965 following the outbreak of Operation Rolling Thunder during the Vietnam War, and were later adapted by other countries during subsequent conflicts, as well as being integrated into the Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) program. a plan used by the United States Air Force to immediately establish air superiority before a possible full-scale conflict. Originally known by the operational code "Iron Hand" when first authorized on August 12, 1965, the term "Wild Weasel" comes from Project Wild Weasel, a United States Air Force program to develop a specialized aircraft to detect and suppress SAMs. The technique was also called the "Iron Hand" mission, although technically this term only referred to a suppression attack before the main strike.) Originally called "Project Ferret", referring to a predatory animal that enters the lair of its prey to kill it (hence: " track"), the name was changed to distinguish it from the codename "Ferret" which was used during World War II for radar countermeasures bombers.

250 million years ago, 95% of life was wiped out from the face of the Earth in the largest extinction event in history. But who was responsible? Our planet was a completely different place back then. Millions of years before the age of dinosaurs, creatures such as dicynodonts and gorgonopsians roamed the earth, while the oceans also teemed with life. Then, in a geological blink, everything changed. Life itself was almost completely destroyed in what is known as the Permian extinction. Traveling to places such as South Africa, California and Iceland, experts discover that volcanic activity in the Siberian Traps has released deadly gases from beneath the sea and raised the Earth's temperature. This accelerated global warming has led to drought and disruption of the food cycle, causing even the strongest animals to eventually succumb to these conditions.

Operation Linebacker II was an aerial bombing campaign by the United States Seventh Air Force and United States Naval Task Force 77 against targets in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) during the final period of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. The operation took place from December 18 to 29, 1972, and was given several unofficial names, such as "December Raids" and "Christmas Bombings".
Unlike the interception missions of Operation Rolling Thunder and Operation Linebacker, Linebacker II was to be a "maximum effort" bombing campaign to "destroy major target complexes in the Hanoi and Haiphong areas, which could only be accomplished by B-52s." The largest US Air Force heavy bomber strikes since the end of World War II took place here. Linebacker II was a modified continuation of Operation Linebacker's bombing campaign from May to October, with the new campaign's focus shifting to B-52 attacks rather than smaller tactical fighters.

Combat air patrol (CAP) is a type of fighter flight mission. Combat air patrol is the patrol of aircraft over an objective, defended force, critical area of a combat zone, or air defense area with the goal of intercepting and destroying enemy aircraft before they reach their target. Combat air patrol applies to both land and water operations, protecting other aircraft, fixed and mobile assets on land, or ships at sea.
Known by the acronym CAP, it typically involves fighters flying in a tactical pattern or covering a defended target while searching for incoming attackers. Effective CAP schemes can include aircraft positioned at both high and low altitudes to reduce response times when an attack is detected. Modern CAPs are monitored by either the GCI or the AWACS system to provide the earliest possible warning of a defensive response.
The first CAPs were specific to carrier operations, where CAPs were used to protect a carrier battle group, but the term has become generic to both land-based and naval-based operations. Containment operations differ from fighter escort in that CAP forces are not tied to the group they are protecting, are not limited in altitude or speed, and have the tactical flexibility to counter the threat. Escort fighters typically remain close to the objective they are supporting and at the speed of the supported group as a last resort force to respond to an immediate threat. When an escort enters combat, the supported forces are left unprotected.

This program dives into the world that lies beneath the frozen surface. This is the greatest climate disaster ever to occur on Earth. 650 million years ago, a catastrophic ice age sealed the entire planet under ice and snow, nearly wiping out life and turning the world into one giant snowball.
Snowball Earth reveals the history of one of the most controversial theories in modern science. The investigative program travels the world, following scientists as they scour southern Australia, Death Valley in Nevada and the glaciers of Alaska for clues about how our planet ended up in this doomsday scenario. The results may improve understanding of the evolution and survival of life.

The first program tells the story of Earth's difficult birth and how the formation of our Moon set us on a unique path to becoming a planet ripe for life. Glowing peacefully in the night sky, it's hard to imagine that the Moon was actually born from one of the most violent and potentially destructive events in history. Four and a half billion years ago, in the chaos of the early solar system, a planet the size of Mars crashed into our young Earth with such force that its debris was sent flying into space. This is how the Moon was formed. The first film in the Catastrophe series explores the Moon's role in creating the tranquil atmosphere on Earth that ultimately allowed the emergence of life.

In modern usage, the term "gunship" refers to fixed-wing aircraft that have side-mounted heavy weapons (i.e., firing to the side) for attacking land or sea targets. These warships were configured to circle the target rather than bombard them. Such aircraft have weapons on one side configured to fire at the top of an imaginary cone formed by the aircraft and the ground when performing a pylon turn (roll turn).
In the more modern category of fixed-wing aircraft that emerged after World War II, a gunship is an aircraft that has side-mounted heavy weapons (i.e., firing to the side) for attacking land or sea targets. These warships were configured to circle the target rather than bombard them. Such aircraft have weapons on one side configured to fire at the top of an imaginary cone formed by the aircraft and the ground when performing a pylon turn (roll turn).
The Douglas AC-47 Spooky was the first known modern warship. In 1964, during the Vietnam War, the popular Douglas C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft was successfully modified by the US Air Force into a gunship with three side-firing miniguns for circling attacks. At the time, the aircraft was known as the "Dragonship", "Puff the Magic Dragon" or "Ghost" (official designation FC-47, later corrected to AC-47). Its three 7.62mm miniguns could selectively fire at 50 or 100 rounds per second. Orbiting leftward at 120 knots at 3,000 feet (910 m), the gunship could place a bullet or glowing red tracer (every fifth round) in every square yard of a football field-sized target. potentially in less than 10 seconds. And while his basic ammunition load of 45 flashes and 24,000 rounds lasted, he could do this intermittently, loitering over the target for hours.

During the Vietnam War, the costly rescue of Bat 21 prompted the US military to find a new approach to searching and rescuing high-threat people. They recognized that if a SAR mission is doomed to fail, it should not be undertaken and other options must be considered, such as special operations, diversionary tactics, and other creative approaches tailored to the situation. Recognizing the need for an aircraft that could provide more effective close air support, the USAF introduced the A-7 Corsair, originally a Navy carrier-based light attack aircraft, to replace the Air Force A-1 Skyraiders, an aircraft that was also originally a carrier-based Navy strike bomber.
Thanks to CSAR's experience in Vietnam, the U.S. military has also improved the nighttime capabilities of helicopters and area-denial munitions.
During the Vietnam War, US SAR forces saved 3,883 lives at the cost of 71 rescuers and 45 aircraft.
In 1972, during the Vietnam War, Lt. Col. Iseal Hambleton, a U.S. Air Force navigator and electronic warfare officer with ballistic missile and countermeasures experience, was the sole survivor of an EB-66 shot down during the Easter Offensive. He evaded capture by North Vietnamese forces until he was rescued 11.5 days later. During the rescue operation, five American military aircraft supporting the CSAR effort were shot down, eleven American service members were killed, and two men were captured. The rescue operation was "the largest, longest, and most complex search and rescue operation of the entire Vietnam War." Two books and the feature film “The Bat” are dedicated to him.

Operation Rolling Thunder was the name of a gradual and sustained aerial bombing campaign conducted by the U.S. 2nd Air Division (later the Seventh Air Force), the U.S. Navy, and the Republic of Vietnam Air Force (RVNAF) against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. (North Vietnam) from March 2, 1965 to November 2, 1968, during the Vietnam War.
The four objectives of the operation (which varied over time) were to boost the flagging morale of the Saigon regime in the Republic of Vietnam; convince North Vietnam to stop supporting the communist insurgency in South Vietnam without sending ground troops to communist North Vietnam; destroy North Vietnam's transportation system, industrial base, and air defenses; and stop the flow of men and equipment into South Vietnam. Achieving these goals was hampered both by the restrictions placed on the United States and its allies by Cold War exigencies and by the military aid and assistance North Vietnam received from its communist allies, the Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China, and North Vietnam. Korea.
The operation was the most intense air-land battle of the Cold War; it was the most difficult such campaign waged by the United States since the aerial bombardment of Germany during World War II. With the support of its communist allies, North Vietnam fielded a powerful mixture of modern air-to-air and surface-to-air weapons, creating one of the most effective air defenses American military pilots had ever encountered.

Casualty evacuation, also known as CASEVAC or by the callsign Dustoff or colloquially Dust Off, is a military term for the emergency patient evacuation of casualties from a combat zone. Casevac can be done by both ground and air. "DUSTOFF" is the callsign specific to U.S. Army Air Ambulance units. CASEVACs by air today are almost exclusively done by helicopter, a practice begun on a small scale toward the end of World War II; before that, STOL aircraft, such as the Fieseler Fi 156 or Piper J-3 were used.

Forward air control is the control of close air support (CAS) aircraft to ensure that their attack hits the intended target and does not harm friendly troops. This task is performed by a forward air traffic controller (FAC).
The primary function of forward air control is to ensure the safety of friendly forces with close air support. Enemy targets on the front line (the "front edge of the combat zone" in US terminology) are often close to friendly forces, and therefore friendly forces are at risk of friendly fire due to proximity during an air attack. The danger is twofold: the bomber pilot cannot clearly identify the target and does not know the location of his forces. Camouflage, a constantly changing situation and the fog of war increase the risk. Modern doctrine states that forward air controllers (FACs) are not needed to interdict air attacks, although such use of FACs has occurred in the past.
An additional concern of forward air controllers is to prevent harm to civilians in the strike zone.
Forward air controllers played an important role in the largest bombing campaign in history during the Vietnam War. While World War II involved indiscriminate mass air raids on major cities around the world, bombing during the Vietnam War was aimed at smaller targets in a country the size of New Mexico. Unless bombs were dropped in a free-fire zone or on a predetermined target, bombing in Vietnam was directed by the PIC. In addition, unlike World War II, serious efforts were made to avoid targeting civilians, which also required the intervention of the FAC.

"Creation", for years scientists have speculated about the beginning of the universe. Some astronomers support the Big Bang theory while others purport the Steady State theory. Which one is correct? Telescopes that tune into natural heat radiation coming from space are helping scientists find answers to these and other questions.
One day our universe will cool and die, our only escape maybe to risk a flight into a different universe. Perhaps the greatest question facing the human race is to discover where we came from, and find out what is our ultimate fate. Every culture, every age, has asked that question and tried answering it.
