Some good tents allow for an awning configuration with the help of trekking poles. But you will also need a few stakes and guylines. Piz Boè is one of them. According to Unesco, there are 18 peaks in the Dolomites that are above 3000 meters of elevation. But this probably depends on how a peak is defined related to its prominence. It turns out that both gain half a kilogram weight. But for the lighter day pack this implies that it becomes 40% heavier when wet. The larger pack became 24% heavier. From this I conclude that the main part that gains weight when wet is the harness and hip belt. This means that using a rain cover will not help. So if you want to avoid this extra weight with your heavy pack, perhaps it is best to use a poncho that covers the pack too. But a poncho also adds weight, my own weighs 278 grams.
