Following their six-month stay aboard the International Space Station, the members of NASA's SpaceX Crew-7 mission—NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov—are safely back on Earth.
Moghbeli, Mogensen, and Furukawa will speak about their mission for the first time after returning to Earth on March 12, answering questions from media and the public. During the mission, Moghbeli completed a spacewalk, a first in her career, alongside NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara.
While aboard the station, Crew-7 contributed to hundreds of experiments and technology demonstrations, including studying plant immune function in microgravity, testing materials in the space environment, and observing thunderstorms to understand the effects of lightning and electrical activity on Earth’s climate and atmosphere. Crew-7's work is helping humanity to prepare for exploration beyond low Earth orbit while benefiting life on Earth.

• Butch Wilmore, NASA astronaut, mission commander
Wilmore, a U.S. Navy captain, is a veteran of two spaceflights and has accumulated 178 days in space. Selected as an astronaut in 2000, he served as a flight engineer for Expedition 41 from September to November 2014, then assumed command of Expedition 42 until his return to Earth in March 2015. He logged 167 days in space during this mission and performed four spacewalks. In 2009, Wilmore was a pilot aboard the space shuttle Atlantis for STS-129. From Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Wilmore earned degrees from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
• Suni Williams, NASA astronaut, mission pilot
Williams, a retired Navy captain, is a veteran of two space station missions, Expedition 14/15 and 32/33, and served as commander of Expedition 33. Selected as an astronaut by NASA in 1998, she has logged 322 days in space, first launching on the space shuttle Discovery with the crew of STS-116, then on a Roscosmos Soyuz spacecraft. Williams has completed seven spacewalks, totaling 50 hours and 40 minutes. ISS National Lab Prelaunch Science Webinar: NASA's SpaceX CRS-30
Description (for media): The ISS National Laboratory is inviting members of the media to participate in a science-focused prelaunch webinar for NASA's SpaceX CRS-30 mission. Participants will hear from NASA and ISS National Lab officials as well as researchers who will discuss a few of the projects flying on this cargo resupply mission. The live webinar will take place on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 1 p.m. EST. The webinar will be livestreamed on the ISS National Lab's website and a recording will be uploaded to our YouTube page upon completion.
Speakers will include:
• Marc Elmouttie, research group leader at CSIRO (an Australian government agency responsible for scientific research), will discuss the Multi-Resolution Scanner (MRS) project that will use the Astrobee autonomous free-flying robotic system on station. MRS can be used to rapidly create 3D maps of space environments like the space station.
• Paula Grisanti, CEO of the National Stem Cell Foundation, will discuss a continuing investigation using 3D brain models derived from induced pluripotent stem cells of patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases as well as primary progressive multiple sclerosis. This study aims to understand the mechanisms behind neuroinflammation, a common feature of neurodegenerative diseases.
• Kris Kuehnel, managing director for Space Exploration Operations at Airbus U.S. Space & Defense, will discuss the ArgUS external mechanical platform capable of hosting payloads in low Earth orbit. Liam Kennedy, SpaceTV Director of Sen Corp., will give an overview of SpaceTV-1, an optical video system that will leverage the ArgUS platform to livestream high-definition views of Earth and areas around the space station, including visiting vehicles.
• Michelle Lucas, founder and CEO of Higher Orbits, a nonprofit that aims to inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) industries, will discuss three student-led spaceflight experiments through the Go For Launch! program.
• Jordan McKaig, a graduate student from Georgia Institute of Technology, will discuss CS-05A: Genomic Enumeration of Antibiotic Resistance in Space (GEARS), a NASA-sponsored investigation that will survey the space station for antibiotic resistant-organisms. Genetic analysis could show how these bacteria adapt to space environments.
• Hema Ramkumar, founder and CEO of biopharmaceutical company Oculogenex, will discuss an investigation that will leverage microgravity to test a novel gene therapy to prevent and even reverse vision loss from age-related macular degeneration.

Shuttle Endeavour’s Last Flight Was 10 Years Ago
People from communities all over California watched the skies in hopes of catching a glimpse of space shuttle Endeavour as it was ferried on the NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft to Los Angeles on Sept. 21, 2012.
On its final flight to the California Science Center, Endeavour was escorted by a combination of F/A-18s and an F-15 from NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. Those aircraft were flown by NASA Armstrong pilots, while center photographers and videographers documented the orbiter’s final journey.
Included on the space shuttle’s flight path were many California landmarks such as the California State Capitol Building, Disneyland, Dodger Stadium, the Getty Center, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Hollywood sign. Also on the route were the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, NASA’s Ames Research Center, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, and the Santa Monica Pier.

Improving Flight One Breath at a Time
NASA is doing complex flight research to look at how pilots breathe to make it safer for them to fly. The NASA Engineering and Safety Center launched the Pilot Breathing Assessment program in 2019 and tapped NASA Armstrong to fly high-performance aircraft flights to better understand how flight conditions may cause pilots to experience a physiological episode during flight. The first phase of the research has involved five pilots, four aircraft, two aircrew equipment configurations and approximately 90 hours of flight at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in California.
