When I travel to a new country, I am always curious about the culture, customs, and behavioral differences between my own country (the USA), and / or other countries that I have been to. Maybe I am just weird. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Here is a list of some of the interesting things about turkey that I noticed after traveling there for about 3 months. I explored Turkey for 3 months and it turned out to be one of my favorite countries to visit! The further that I traveled east, the more interesting Turkey becomes, in my opinion. I highly recommend a Turkey vacation! I didn't even come close to seeing everything that Turkey has to offer. Today is my final day of traveling in Turkiye. Turkey is such a beautiful country full of friendly and helpful people. In this video, I woke up early in Hopa, Turkiye, to cross the border in to Georgia via the Sarp border crossing. Things didn't go according to plan as there wasn't a bus at a specific location that I was told it would be. This set me back almost 2 hours. I eventually found the correct location to wait for the bus. Simply go under the major bridge in Hopa and look for a bus that says 'Sarp'. While walking and exploring the town of Kars, Türkiye, a couple of local men spotted me and asked if I was a Youtuber. It started a conversation and then they offered to take me near the the castle with them. They were kind enough to explain some of the interesting facts to me. This was all done through Google Translate, as I cannot speak Turkish, and they spoke very little English. It was so much fun! After we parted ways, I walked around Kars a bit by myself. I didn't find a whole lot of interesting things to see, other than a local picnicking area where families went to enjoy food with each other. I thought that was pretty special! As always, I wish I had more time to explore. I traveled from Ergiş to Agri on a bus. Had to change busses in a small town. Immediately two small boys came up to me and wanted me to hire then to clean my shoes. They gave me a price that was 5x higher than normal. But first, I had to find my bus. A bus driver started his bus, so I went up to talk with him. So my conversation with the shoe shine boys got interrupted. Then the driver told me to sit in a chair. They continued to follow me. I was going to hire them to help them out, but then a man came over and told me to sit with him, and told the boys to leave me alone. I'm guessing that's what he said, based on his body language. Then, a random woman approached me and invited me to her bakery. She wanted me to try her bread items. I don't like eating bread. But I did anyway. She was so polite and kind...I didn't want to disappoint her. The shoe shine boys were waiting outside of the bakery. Then, the bus came while I was eating the food that she gave me, and so I had to leave abruptly, and also had to ignore the shoe shiners. I felt bad, but I had no choice. I said goodbye to them. Well, I guess it's bound to happen sooner or later. I fell ill while traveling in Ahlat, Turkey. I must have ate or drank something unclean - either from bacteria or other contaminants in the water. In today's Turkey Travel vlog, I visit a place called Diyarbakir. I came from a different city and the bus dropped me off far from the castle. While waiting at the bus stop to find a new bus, this man told me that he was going to the same location as me and that he would take me there. He ended up paying for my ticket and refused to let me pay. Then he helped me find a cheap hotel. And after that, he said that he wanted to show me around the castle. It turned out to be an awesome adventure! I'm a little bit frustrated because during this whole process, I accidentally recorded a time-lapse of our interaction, rather than record a normal video. So our entire conversation of one hour is lost forever. Hopefully that doesn't happen again! The temperature was really hot on this particular day. I stopped at many locations to drink local and freshly squeezed lemonade. One of the places I stopped was Hasan Pasha Inn. This is a pretty cool cafe area. The bricks and architecture are rather appealing to the eyes. The more I travel East in Turkey, the more I fall in love with it. I keep meeting so many friendly and kind Kurdish people in this area. In today's Turkey Travel vlog, I took a 2-day trip to a small city named Siverek, which is in Şanlıurfa province. After finding a hotel, I asked the hotel manager what I should do while visiting his town. He mentioned 'Triangle Park'. I decided to go there after exploring the local market. As I was walking through the market, a few kids noticed the camera and asked me a question. When I smiled and told them that I only speak english, they became curious...and started asking more questions. I tried to translate and explain what I was doing in their city. This soon attracted the attention of other locals. And soon I was talking to people in a tobacco shop. After chatting for a while, I said goodbye and walked to 'Triangle Park'. This turned out to be empty and rather boring. I waked all the way back to the market and beyond it to the mountain. It is labeled as a 'castle' even though there is currently no castle there. This was also rather empty and boring. The title is rather misleading, I suppose. The next day I explored a little bit. When walking back to my room, one of the kids noticed me and so I gave him and his friends some coins from other countries. He seemed pretty excited. In today's Turkey travel vlog, I visit Mount Nemrut. This is such a peculiar place. The longer I stayed here, the more questions that I had. There was almost no information to be found about this place. The small faded signs barely gave any information about these stone or this mountain. I would love to remove all of the small pebbles on the mountain to see what's beneath. My guess is that there is more interesting things buried beneath. What do you think? I visited Adiyaman, Turkey with a goal of walking to the top of the 'castle' located in the center of the town. After exploring the streets of Adiyaman for about an hour, I eventually made it to the center. There was no castle at the top. Just a few abandoned buildings that used to sell tea...with broken windows. As I was walking back down the large hill, a couple of teenagers seen me filming and asked me to join them. We had a large conversation which I didn't record because I pressed the wrong button on my camera. But I did record the part where they tried to guess my age. It was kind of fun. They all thought that I looked younger than I actually am, so that's a good thing. I enjoyed walking around this small town and interacting with the local people. In today's Turkey travel vlog, I visit a small town called Darende. This place is known for an old mosque in the middle of a canyon, next to a river, and also a large swimming area in the middle of the canyon. It's a very beautiful tourist attraction for local Turkish people. I was browsing google maps and looking for tiny towns to visit when I stumbled across this place. So I decided to randomly get on a bus to take me there. The town is tiny but very interesting. The canyon was really organized and beautiful. I really liked the giant swimming pool (Kudret Havuzu)...I just wish the water was heated. It was super cold! My favorite part about my 2-night stay in Darende was eating lunch at a small shop in town. We talked with each other for about 30 minutes, translating with my phone. We had some interesting conversations. The man refused to take money from me after I finished eating. I felt guilty, but I understand he was trying to be kind and hospitable. While shopping at Decathlon in Kayseri, an outdoor sporting goods store, one of the employees approached me and answered some questions that I had about buying a new bag. After exchanging social media accounts, he later messaged me that evening and kindly offered to take me to a nearby mountain (Ali Mountain) to get a good view of the city in the morning. I happily agreed. Just as we got out of the car, an older gentleman (who we later found out was a prominent doctor in the area), told us about his travels over the years. I don't speak Turkish, so Enes translated most things that the Doctor wanted to tell me. We hiked all the way to the top of Ali Mountain where Enes had a small breakfast waiting in his bag. So kind! Immediately after eating, we had to start our decent because he had to be to work soon. I visited Kayseri, Turkey and was escorted around the city by a very kind security officer. He showed me some unique and popular places to visit within the city. Probably the coolest place, in my opinion, was at the top of the castle. Apparently other tourists and even locals are not allowed up there. Why was I allowed to visit? I'm not entirely sure. The kind security officer had a conversation with the castle authority, and the next thing I know, someone unlocked the gate and we walked to the top. As I went through the footage, I realized that I was recording when I thought I had the camera off. And I had the camera off when I thought I was recording. Oops! 🤦🏼‍♂️ I'm still learning how to use the new camera. I enjoyed my time in Kayseri. One of my favorite parts was inside the large market in the center of the city. I woke up early in the morning to watch the hot air balloons fill up and fly around us during the sunrise. It was absolutely worth it, in my opinion. Definitely some of the best in Cappadocia! While in other countries, I'm sure there would me loads of red tape preventing balloons from getting close to people, here on Göreme, the hot air balloons get super close to the viewers. On a couple of different occasions, I could almost touch the hands of the people floating by in a balloon as I stood on the mountain watching them. So cool! Welcome to the largest excavated underground city in Turkey! In the center of the small town of Derinkuyu, there is a massive tunnel system beneath the ground. This ancient underground city has a depth of about 85 meters (279 ft), and it can house up to 20,000 people! This was used as a place of shelter throughout history. It is thought to have been carved out in the 7th or 8th century, BC! Strangely enough, this underground city was lost and rediscovered a few times throughout history. The most recent was in 1963, when a man was remodeling his house and discovered a strange room behind one of his walls.
