Edges of Earth

I decided to do a quick test with the Insta360 RS 1" at night. I left the camera on auto mode to test the cameras ability to maintain a proper exposure...and also what kind of dynamic range this thing was capable of. To be honest, for what I am recording, this camera did just fine for my purposes. You can see that sone of of the footage was a bit overexposed near the stalls that were using lightbulbs. Did you know that people go surfing in Taiwan? I had no idea until today. I met a man who picked me up in his car and we took a trip to Yilan. We arrived at Wushi Harbor where I was able to watch him, and many other people do a bit of surfing. We arrived on a chilly and cloudy day. I certainly wish that the weather was better. We were going to go surfing a few days in the future, but had to reschedule due to an approaching Typhoon. Unfortunately, the clouds were already coming do due to the typhoon. After my friend finished surfing, we dried off and then went to a coffee shop to warm up. After coffee, we went to have a nice dinner at a local restaurant in Yilan. We had some type pot pie with steak and vegetables. It was pretty good! In this video, I explored the northeast coast of Taiwan with a friendly local woman. She picked me up on her motorbike from my hotel in Ruifang, then we visited and explored the Heping Island pool and rock area, then we visited the Zhengbin Port Color Houses where we saw some puffer fish, then we stopped and had lunch in he Zhongzheng district, and we finished off the afternoon by visiting Chaojing Park in Badouzi. We shared so many laughs in this video! Today I was invited to visit the Longshan temple in Taipei by a local man named Roger. He walked around the temple with me and explained the basics of how it works. I learned that each temple has one main god, and there are usually other mini-temples housing other gods also in the same location. Each god represents something different, such as love, money, mercy, or other various things. In this case, the main god of the Longshan Temple is the god of mercy, also known as Guanyin. Like I mentioned in the video, I think it's extra special if you come at night, as the lighting is quite beautiful. In addition, you might be able to see many of the people chant after work. Definitely a pretty cool experience! For the first time, I was able to participate in a Taiwanese Tea Ceremony. It was rather interesting because of the method used to prepare the tea. My friend was right...western tea is rather boring. We usually put a teabag in a mug filled with hot water. The Taiwanese Tea making process is much more detailed, indeed! We also took the Gondola (cable car), near the Taipei Zoo, to the top of the mountain. It was definitely the longest cable car that I have ever been on! We went round 12pm. A local family invited me to hang out with them for the afternoon. We went on a road trip to northern Taiwan, where we entered Yangmingshan Park and got to see the Sulfur Dioxide gas coming out of the dormant volcano. After that, we went even further north, during sunset, and visited a restaurant during a local festival. There, I tried some mussels, zongzi, a seaweed drink, and some pig intestine soup. I must say, I was a bit nervous about trying the soup. The idea is a bit intimidating. But, to be honest, it was good. Mind over matter! :) After that, we visited a small bubble tea shop where I got to try some. I loved it. In fact, I would go buy bubble tea almost every single day while in Taiwan! After a few months in Georgia, it was time to leave. I flew from Batumi, Georgia to Taipei, Taiwan via Turkish Airlines. As you will see in this video, the flight was delayed and Turkish Airlines put me in a nice hotel for 2 nights as I waited for my next flight. Did know that the Istanbul airport is extremely expensive? Wow, as you will see in this video, I bought a small sandwich thing for like $13 USD. That's insane! Today, I walked around and explored a Georgian Market in Kutaisi. I have been in this town for a couple of days and decided that today would be a good day to go for a walk. I always enjoy walking around local markets as they are different all around the world. Each market has its own uniqueness and appeal. The market in Kutaisi didn't disappoint. I went on a medieval castle tour located in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia and explored for the afternoon. This castle from the middle ages has been recently renovated, and I must say, it looks quite nice. Sure, I can see that many of the bricks and mortar is rather new, but they still did a pretty good job maintaining the old feel. But the major problem with this place is the complete lack of information. The only thing they taught me was that it's a castle. That's it. No other history or information was available to the paying public. The other frustrating part about this medieval castle self-tour was that the entrance fee was significantly higher for foreigners. The cost of doing business should't depend on the ethnicity of a person. But in Georgia, I guess it does. I stopped in a small town in eastern Turkey, and it turned out to be one of the worst hotels that I have ever stayed in. There was an old phone on the table with no cord plugged into it. Water would build up on the bathroom floor. The shower knob fell off. The sink leaked. The shower wand leaked. The toilet lid wouldn't open. The toilet flusher was a long shoe string. The toilet wouldn't fill up, so I had to dump bottles of water into the toilet tank, and then pull the string to flush 🤷🏼‍♂️ #travel #solotravel #worsthotel

By accident, I visited a small tourist town called Borjomi, Georgia. This town is known for it's natural mineral water discovered by soldiers in the 1800's. Today, it's is bottled up and exported all over Georgia, as well as to other countries. I was planning to go to Akhaltsikhe, a town nearby, but the roads were too bumpy and I just needed to get off the bus. So, I randomly got off in Borjomi. I'm happy that I did. I explored quit a bit over the 2 nights that I was there. I visited the Borjomi central park, looked around, rode the cable car, walked through the forest, and took a look at all of the souvenir shops nearby. It's a pretty cool town. But I'm still looking for a town with a more local feel. I just arrived in the country of Georgia and and excited to see a change. I was trapped in my hotel for the first couple of days due to rain. Finally the rain stopped and this is the first day that I am able to walk around and explore the streets of Batumi, Georgia! Whenever I arrive in a new country, I always go on a self-guided walking tour around the city just to get a feel of everything around me. I spent a lot of time near the coast of Batumi. One of the highlights of the day was to take the Argo cable car to the top of the top of a nearby hill. The view of the city was rather impressive! Also, riding the ferris wheel during sunset was kind of cool - even though it was short. It is located right next to the Ali and Nino statue. After an entire day of walking around, enjoyed watching the final moments of sunlight right on the coast of the black sea.
