4 dead, 7 injured during stabbing spree in Illinois
Four people were killed and seven were hurt when a man went on a stabbing rampage across multiple locations in a northern Illinois community. A 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man were killed in the incident and five others who were injured were transported to local hospitals with “serious injuries,” the Rockford Police Department said in a news release .
Five people were injured in the city of Rockford and two people were injured in the jurisdiction of Winnebago County, Rockford police spokesperson Michelle Marcomb told. A man, 22, has been arrested and is being questioned by police.
Police said the motive for the attacks remained unclear.
The home invasion occurred on Florence Street but the attacks unfolded at multiple locations, police say.
Winnebago Country Sheriff Gary Caruana said a young woman had sustained stab wounds to her hands and face after being seen running away from the suspect. Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd said that not all of the victims had been stabbed, but added that none had suffered gunshot wounds.
She said police did not believe there were any other suspects at large.
Not all of the victims found at multiple addresses in the city had stab wounds and none were shot, according to Redd. Redd said residents in the area were being asked to review their home surveillance camera footage for anything related to the attacks.

Ukrainian troops have problems with Starlink as it affects the drone war with Russia
Ukrainian front-line troops say they are experiencing connection problems with the vital Starlink internet service, according to CNN.
Ukraine’s self-detonating drones have been a cheap and effective weapon in the war to gather intelligence and destroy Russia’s expensive military equipment.
In recent weeks, Ukraine’s drones have attacked Russian oil facilities and hunted down Russian ships in open sea and at naval bases.
Ukraine’s self-detonating drones are a staple to its arsenal. But in a series of interviews across the front lines, Ukrainian soldiers have said connection speeds have dropped in the past months, and reported other connection problems. The complaints coincide with a rise in Ukrainian sightings of Russian uses of the satellite internet service, run by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, and social media posts in which Russian crowdfunders claim to have successfully bypassed sanctions on Russian use of the devices, buying them in third countries.
One communications operator in the Zaporizhzhia area, who asked to be named Misha, told CNN the issues had begun in the past three weeks. “We started noticing a bad quality connection,” he said.
“It breaks up all the time, it needs to be rebooted for it to start working properly. But soon the speed starts to decrease and the connection breaks up again. It brings rather unpleasant complications” for their work, he added.
Another drone operator, a commander of one of the dozens of units flying single-use attack drones at Russian targets, also in the Zaporizhzhia area, said his unit’s issues had begun in January.
Multiple Ukrainian units across the front lines told CNN they had experienced speed problems with Starlink, and noted Russian use, but declined to be named discussing a sensitive issue. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia destroyed the military’s traditional Internet service. Kyiv reached out to Musk and asked for emergency Starlink shipments. Their impact on the battlefield was almost immediate. Ukrainian military regained access to the Internet – and were able to coordinate their defense and counterattack.

Putin's inner circle doubts link between Ukraine and Moscow attack
Part of Russian president Vladimir Putin's inner circle believes there is no evidence linking Ukraine to the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall near Moscow, reports Bloomberg.
Four unnamed individuals with close ties to the Kremlin revealed that Putin was present at meetings where it was concluded that Ukraine was not involved in the attack. However, Putin, as before, intends to use the tragedy to rally Russian citizens against Ukraine, another source of the news agency clarified.
Bloomberg's sources also shared that the Kremlin was shocked that Russian security services failed to prevent the shooting at the shopping center.
"Almost nobody they know within Russia’s political and business elite believes Ukraine was behind the assault, the people said," the article stated.
The US Institute for Study of War (ISW) said that Russian officials are proposing actionable but likely impractical solutions to the emotional outcries for retribution in response to the Crocus City Hall attack.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior Kremlin officials appear to be struggling to maintain a consistent rhetorical line about the Crocus City Hall attack, indicating that the Kremlin has not fully figured out how to reconcile its information operations with the reality of its intelligence and law enforcement failure,” ISW said.
On March 22, unknown gunmen stormed the Crocus City Hall with firearms and began shooting civilians. This occurred during a concert at the mall, where there was a large gathering of people.
Vladimir Putin has repeatedly accused Ukraine of the attack. He claimed that the organizers of the shooting allegedly tried to cross the border into Ukraine.
Interestingly, even his ally, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, refuted Putin's version. He noted that the terrorists were headed to Bryansk.

Belarus' Mazyr oil refinery workers panicking over Ukrainian drones
The latest wave of Ukraine drone attacks on the Russian refinery system is likely to have a more meaningful impact on Russian refinery production than the ones in January and February. Since then, there has been another flurry of drone attacks across a further five refining sites, resulting in primary processing capacity outages and lower refined product exports. The recent wave of Ukraine drone attacks on Russian refinery infrastructure has been focused on primary processing capacity and is expected to have a more substantial impact than the attacks earlier this year. İn this condition Russia may use Belarus' Mazyr oil refinery. But the wife of a Mazyr Refinery worker told Charter97 media outlet that the plant workers are panicking about a possible drone attack on the plant. “Dejection, insomnia. I’ve been living with these feelings for the last week. My husband works at the Mazyr Oil Refinery. The company's workers are afraid that a drone may also fly to them. There is nowhere to leave the plant, since none of the other institutions can compete in salaries with our city-forming enterprise. At the plant, among close colleagues, everyone is just discussing this topic, what to do, how to deal with this situation” she added.
“I myself monitor situations through independent websites and Telegram channels. Every day I ask my husband what is new. But the plant management says nothing. People go to work silently, scared. I am afraid that my children will become orphans because of political games.
With the outbreak of the war, our city turned into some kind of unpredictable volcano. Either we are treating the wounded, or gathering them for training camps, or there is military equipment that is scary to approach, because they will immediately mark you as a terrorist. We have actually been living in the front-line zone for two years now. And now we are still waiting for the drones to arrive. If you think about it, the Ukrainians have an absolute right to attack our plant as a source of fuel for a war against a neighboring country”, she said.

Coup d'état in Russia? - Expert reveals interesting points
It is possible that the terrorist attack in Crocus may have been used by a group of politicians in the Russian Federation who, de facto, carried out a hidden coup d'état. Ukrainian expert Vadim Denisenko said this.
“And so far we can say with a high degree of probability that the main beneficiary could be Nikolai Patrushev. To begin with, we cannot yet fully understand what it really was. Both the ISIS version has inconsistencies, and the Russian version raises too many questions”, he added.
According to him, in the end, at the moment, these things, although important, are secondary. More important to me is the sharp radicalisation of the entire Russian vertical, which is already being demonstrated at all levels: innovations with the return of the death penalty; Peskov's change of rhetoric, the obvious ban on any smooth statements; the tough stance of the Russian ambassador to Poland and the demonstration of unnecessary aggressiveness; the use of Zircons, and so on.
Vadim Denisenko said that all this cumulatively tells us about a sharp shift in the balance of power in favour of the most radical elements. “Behind all this we can see first of all the head of the Russian Security Council, the number two politician in the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev. I would like to note straight away that in recent years there has been a rapprochement, and with the full-scale invasion we can talk about the tandem of Patrushev and Chemezov, the head of Rostekh. The combination of these two figures now guarantees complete superiority over all other towers. In other words, we see a sharp increase in the influence of one group with the tacit consent of all the others. Moreover, we see everyone else adjusting to the new reality”, he said.
According to him, obviously, we still need to monitor all of this, but so far it looks like Putin's native structure has locked its pet down and is taking away from him the wiggle room to create certain balances. “The main wiggle room, by the way, is the negotiations. All Russian rhetoric is now imbued exclusively with aggression and does not suggest any compromise, even in details.
I repeat, we should keep an eye on this for the time being, because the situation is not static now, but is developing on a daily basis. And there is no need to wait for personnel decisions. We should first of all watch the rhetoric. If this hypothesis is confirmed, it is a quit from all negotiations and a sharp shift towards turning Russia into Iran. The upside of this is that Patrushev will be putting the economy in a detrimental state”, he added.

British army would only last two months against Russia – top UK general
The British Armed Forces are not prepared for a potential confrontation with an adversary such as Russia, the deputy chief of the UK Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Robert Magowan, told a parliamentary defense committee. The military severely lacks the resources, particularly ammunition, for any such conflict, he believes.
The amount of money the government spends on ammunition, although “significant,” still “does not meet the threats we face,” Magowan stated, adding that the military would have to manage “operational risk” linked to the lack of resources.
When further pressed by MP Mark Francois, a former minister of state for the Armed Forces, about the chances of holding out against Russia, the general admitted that British forces would hardly last longer than “a couple of months in a full-on shooting war.”
Defense Secretary Grant Chapps, claimed that there was no reason to worry, since the UK would unlikely have to face Russia alone. “It’s important to understand that because we are in NATO we would never be in that situation,” he stated.
The comments came just a month after an inquiry by the Defense Committee found that the British Armed Forces were “increasingly outstretched” and thus not ready to face Russia. A year-long review of the UK’s defense capabilities released in early February concluded that the government would “never achieve warfighting or strategic readiness” without major reforms.
The document also said that the military is suffering from a recruitment crisis and is short at least 5,000 soldiers. At that time, the committee was also told by former defense chiefs that the Armed Forces had been “hollowed out” at least since 2010 and could not hold out against any major adversary in a “peer-on-peer conflict.” The troops “would have exhausted their capabilities after the first couple of months of the engagement,” the report said, according to The Telegraph. Magowan insisted that the UK was “ready for war” but just not with a nation such as Russia.

Tajiks in Russia fear mass deployment to war in Ukraine
In Moscow, migrants from Tajikistan are trying to avoid leaving their homes due to fears of deportation or being sent en masse to war against Ukraine following the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall, according to The New York Times.
Because four of the suspects detained in the attack near Moscow are Tajikistan nationals, anti-migrant rhetoric has intensified in Russia, especially online. Xenophobia has been spreading most actively in the pages of so-called war bloggers, and supporters of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, who are predominantly far-right.
As a result, the Kremlin is satisfying the demands of war supporters by promising tougher actions against migrants while also trying to prevent an outbreak of interethnic tension in society.
According to Russian state statistics, nearly a million citizens of Tajikistan were registered in Russia last year as labor migrants.
A food business manager in Moscow, where Tajiks work, told The New York Times that the sentiments resemble those of the 2000s when Muslims from the Caucasus faced widespread discrimination after terrorist attacks and the war in Chechnya. Tajiks in Moscow are so scared that they hardly go out at all, she said.
They fear not only deportation but also being involved in the war in Ukraine, said 25-year-old Saidanvar, a Tajik human rights activist who recently left Moscow.
"Tajiks are really afraid that the Russian authorities will start sending Tajiks to the front en masse to fight as a sort of revenge against our Tajik people," he said.
The Tajikistan embassy in Russia warned its citizens over the weekend not to leave their homes unless necessary, and one migrant advocate told CBC News she has received thousands of inquiries from migrants who are on high alert and in some cases, facing increased racism and scrutiny from authorities.
"I tell them not to go to mosques now and don't visit any shopping and entertainment centres if possible," said Valentina Chupik, a lawyer who provides assistance to Central Asian migrants in Russia. "People are getting detained on the street and in the subway."
While Russia's economy relies on the migrants to fill jobs in the construction industry and service sector, advocates say the population is already marginalized and faces anti-immigration sentiment, which appears to have risen since the attack.

Poland launches armored vehicle coalition for Ukraine
İn Warsaw, the opening of a coalition of armored vehicles in support of Ukraine took place, reports the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
As noted by the department, during the meeting, representatives of the participating countries formulated a position on strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine with certain armored vehicle models and organizing their repair.
In addition to Poland and Germany, the initiative also involves the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Italy.
"The purpose of the armored vehicle coalition is to strengthen the armored shield of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, jointly enhance our military capabilities in countering the Russian aggressor, ensure the effective functioning, technical maintenance, and repair of equipment and weaponry provided to us by allies," said Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ivan Havryliuk, who led the Ukrainian delegation.
Within the framework of the coalition, four syndicates have already been created. Each has been assigned specific tasks: Supply of weapons and ammunition for Western armored vehicles; Technical maintenance and repair; Training of crews and technical personnel; Development of effective tactics for the use of armored vehicles on the battlefield.
"This is a very important initiative of our allies considering the existing issues in the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the repair of foreign-made armored vehicles. I hope that with the help of allies, we will be able to quickly, as much as possible, establish an effective repair base for Western armored vehicles in Ukraine," Havryliuk added.
He clarified that within the coalition, a roadmap will be developed in line with the strategy for the development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is expected that in the long term, coalition members will assist Ukraine in creating a fleet of vehicles and establishing industrial partnerships with our country.
On March 18, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak Kamysz announced that his country, together with Germany, was forming an armored vehicle coalition for Ukraine.
The official emphasized that this is one of the most important coalitions.
It is worth noting that there are several other coalitions aimed at assisting Ukraine. These include the aviation coalition, drone coalition, tank coalition, and others.

Bus carrying Easter worshippers falls off cliff killing 45 people in South Africa
Dozens of worshippers died after a bus headed to an Easter conference apparently “lost control” and “plunged” off a cliff in South Africa’s Limpopo province according to South African Broadcasting Corporation.
The crash claimed the lives of 45 people and one is seriously injured, the country’s transport department said in a statement.
The passengers were pilgrims travelling from Botswana's capital, Gaborone, to an Easter service in the town of Moria.
Limpopo health official Phophi Ramathuba told South African broadcaster eNCA that body parts from separate crash victims may have been put into different body bags, which is why so far only nine bodies have been identified.
Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga, who went to the scene of the incident, has sent condolences to the bereaved families and Botswana government following the horrific bus crash. Chikunga says the government will repatriate the bodies. “We want really to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families but also to the government of Botswana and to the people of Botswana and as South Africa we will try everything to assist so that they go back to their country and families to be buried with dignity.”
President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his condolences to Botswana and to loved ones of the crash victims, a statement from his office said.

Israeli airstrike kills dozens of Syrian soldiers near Aleppo
Israeli strikes on the northern Syrian city of Aleppo killed more than 40 people including six members of Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, two security sources said, the deadliest attacks so far in an intensified Israeli campaign against Iran's allies in Syria.
The attacks targeted several areas in Aleppo’s countryside, Syria’s Ministry of Defence said. It did not provide casualty figures, only saying a number of civilians and military personnel were killed and property was damaged after Israel and unnamed armed groups carried out the strikes, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA.
Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in posts on X that Israeli strikes hit a weapons depot near Aleppo International Airport, resulting in a series of large explosions.
At least 36 Syrian soldiers were killed, it said, adding that Hezbollah weapons depots were located in the area.
Israel, which has vowed to stop Iranian entrenchment in its northern neighbor, has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets in government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years, but it rarely acknowledges them. The frequency of these strikes has increased since Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza began following the 7 October attacks. Hezbollah has had an armed presence in Syria since it joined the country’s conflict fighting alongside government forces.
Aleppo, Syria’s largest city and once its commercial center, has come under such attacks in the past that led to the closure of its international airport.

Russia plans targeted terror, focusing on capital of Ukraine
This experience has shown that the enemy uses Zircon missiles with increased activity, indicating that the air alert will spread to the Kyiv region when ballistic missiles are used from the south, states Head of the United Coordinating Press Center of Security and Defense Forces of the South of Ukraine, Natalia Humeniuk.
"Several dozen similar missiles are in the enemy's accumulation at military hubs like Crimea, and it can continue occasional targeted terror with a focus including on the capital," Humeniuk said.
She added that for the enemy, the priority remains the method of terrorist pressure, and when there is a threat of ballistic weapons from the south, usually the southern and southeastern regions light up red on the alarm map.
Natalia Humeniuk reported that the enemy continues to use ballistic missiles not only in the southern regions. According to the spokesperson, this indicates that pushed to a certain degree of desperation, it is forced to use reserve means that will lead to the so-called victory in the rear.
Humeniuk also emphasized that civilian terror continues, with the enemy continuing to shell settlements along the contact line in the Kherson region and returning to the tactic of using guided aerial bombs.
"Perhaps losing some aviation vigilance, tactical aviation allowed itself two strikes with six guided aerial bombs each this combat day on the right bank of the Kherson region. A cultural institution, a shop, and some private houses were destroyed," the official added. "The fact of returning to the use of tactical aviation at this frontline is a powerful signal for us: we must reorganize our defense system so that enemy aviation again fears in this direction."
It should be noted that in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, a combat part of a Russian missile was seized. It fell during Russia's attack on March 25. During the inspection of the area, explosive technicians found a fragment of the combat part of the substance with detonators, weighing over 20 kg near private houses.
Additionally, the Air Force explained why the Russians have shortened the intervals between attacks on Ukraine. In particular, this is because the Russia is trying to find weak spots in the Ukrainian air defense system.
