A few examples will be in a covered porch or under a deck. And for added protection from the weather, I recommend Kayak covers as you see in the picture below. Sun Damage To Kayaks So why hide your kayak from the sun? Aren’t they in direct sunlight almost every time you’re out kayaking? Including mine, most kayaks are made of polyethylene which is prone to sun damage after long and consistent exposure. UV rays from the sun break down plastics over time. But the worst most people experience from many kayak day trips is the color slightly fades after a few years. If you want to go the extra mile to keep your kayak safe from the sun, you can get UV protection for plastic kayaks. Storing Your Kayak in Winter The combination of both moisture and extremely cold temperatures for extended periods can possibly shorten the longevity of your kayak. Snow and ice alone can crack the plastic of your boat. So not only is covering and keeping your kayak under deck going to protect it from the sun but also in the winter. Nowhere To Hide Your Kayak From Weather Or Sun? But what if you don’t have a porch or deck to store your kayak under? So there are two simple and affordable options. Get portable kayak stands where instead of having your kayak sit right-side up, flip it upside down. After that, cover it with a tarp. Keeping them stored upside down protects the most vulnerable part which is the topside. Fall Branch Falls trail on a cloudy spring day looks a lot like a fantasy movie. The lush mossy trees, vegetation, and biodiversity are amazing. The hiking trail was created and is maintained by the Benton MacKaye Trail Association, and it is named for Benton MacKaye, the Massachusetts forester and regional planner who first had the idea for the Appalachian Trail in 1921.[1][2] The BMT runs from Springer Mountain in Georgia (sharing the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail) to Big Creek[3] in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The trail passes through seven United States Wilderness Areas, while traversing three states (Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina). Sawnee Mountain (AKA- Indian Seats) is located in Cumming, Georgia. It's an easy hike that's suitable for runners. Although it doesn't offer too many landmarks compared to some of our other hikes, it does have an impeccable view from the summit. Sawnee Mountain is a low mountain between the piedmont and Appalachian foothills of the U.S. state of Georgia, north of Atlanta. Average rainfall/46.26in/yr/ average snowfall/5.7in/yr/. The name Sawnee Mountain actually refers to the entire ridge of approximately five miles (8 km) in length. At its summit, the elevation is 1,946 feet (593 m) above mean sea level, and is roughly 750 feet (230 m) above the surrounding terrain.[3] The Sawnee Mountain range runs southwest to northeast, and consists of five knolls and three gaps (Chamblee, Sawnee, and Bettes).[4] Located only a few miles north of Cumming, Georgia (the county seat), the mountain is easily the highest point in Forsyth county. One of the highest peaks of metro Atlanta, it nudges out its prominently known neighbors Stone Mountain and Kennesaw Mountain by a hundred or so feet each. If you're looking for a moderate hike with many waterfalls and campgrounds along the way, Ravencliff Falls is an excellent choice. It's located in North Georgia right outside of Helen, Georgia. The waterfall consists of three drops, a 60-foot (18 m) drop, followed by a 20-foot (6.1 m) drop into a deep pool, followed by a cascade of 20 feet (6.1 m) to Dodd Creek. The waterfall is an unusual double cascade flowing down through a fissure in a massive granite outcrop.[1] There are also three other major waterfalls located on Dodd Creek, with the largest having a 70-foot (21 m) drop. Raven Cliff Falls is formed by Dodd Creek, a modest size mountain stream. The waterfall and creek are within of the Raven Cliffs Wilderness of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The creek is known as one of the most beautiful in northern Georgia.[2] Raven Cliff Falls is one of four popular waterfalls in the Forest near Helen, Georgia. Two of the other waterfalls, Anna Ruby Falls and Dukes Creek Falls, are also in White County, while the third waterfall, DeSoto Falls, is in neighboring Lumpkin County. Raven Cliff Falls are reached by the Raven Cliffs Trail that follows Dodd Creek to the falls. The trail, which is about 5 miles round trip in length, is relatively easy to hike until near the end. From 2,040 feet (620 m) at the trailhead near Bear Den Creek the path slopes gently upward to 2,600 feet (790 m) at the base of the falls.[3] Blue blazes mark the trail, which is easy to follow. The trailhead lies just off the Richard Russell Scenic Highway. From the parking area the trail runs northwest into a scenic valley teeming with mountain laurel, rhododendron, mixed hardwoods and moss-covered seepages. Along the way the trail passes smaller waterfalls, clear pools and cascading whitewater. The trail ends at an impressive 80-foot (24 m) cliff formation split down the middle with Raven Cliff Falls in between. A steep path leading to the top of the cliff offers wonderful views of the valley and the creek below. While the trail is usually serene, it may be heavily visited during weekends.[4] It is ideal for dayhikes and family outings.[5] The area is also popular for primitive-style tent camping. In this video, I’m going to show you the standard way to rack both kayaks by yourself, and an alternative way if you’re kayak is too heavy to lift above your head. How To Load & Secure 2 Kayaks To Your Car’s Dual Kayak Roof Rack -Attach both kayak racks centered and aligned with each other on the roof. -After installing it the first time, you can leave it permanently if you want. -Fold the center bar straight up on each rack, and lock it in place. -Place two straps folded on the top of each racks center bar -Pick up and place the 1st kayak and center it on the rack, sideways, seat out, front facing the car’s front -Tie and fasten 1 strap on each rack of the first kayak; by putting both ends on the other side of the boat, put the straps through the racks cradle, below the crossbar, back up the cradle, buckle, and tighten. -Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the 2nd kayak -Attach the kayak’s front hook to the car’s front and rear hook to the trunk For both kayaks -Alternative To Loading Your Kayak Without Lifting The Entire Thing Over Your Head -If you can’t lift the entire kayak above your head or your vehicle is too tall to reach the rack, there is a DIY alternative. -Place towel behind front roof rack -Place Mat or rug below the kayak’s rear. (To keep the kayak from slipping or getting scratched) -Lift the front of the kayak and place it on the towel as it rests on the roof of the car -Lift the kayak rear while sliding the front on the front rack, then the rear on the rear rack What if you don’t have an extra towel or mat? The truth is, if you’re like me and don’t care about a few scratches on your car or the kayak’s rear, you don’t actually need them. You can simply lift your kayak behind the rear rack, slide it up, tie it, and you’re off. To Sum It Up Loading and unloading your kayaks is a skill. And just like any other skill, practice makes perfect. It only gets easier and faster the more you do it. Bridal Veil Falls is a cool 45-foot waterfall on the side of a highway roughly 2.3 miles from downtown. And just down the road, you'll find Dry falls which only takes a 0.2-mile walk to get there. Dry Falls flows over an overhanging bluff that allows visitors to walk up under the falls and remain relatively dry when the waterflow is low, hence its name. Visitors will get wet if the waterflow is high. History The falls has been called Dry Falls for a long time, but has also gone by a few other names, including High Falls, Pitcher Falls, and Cullasaja Falls.[3] It received its name because supposedly, you can walk behind the falls and stay dry, however this is only true in periods of low flow. Desoto Falls trail is located in Lumpkin county and offers 2 waterfalls in the span of 1 mile. It's an easy walking trail in the middle of the scenic Chattahoochee National Forest. Before reaching the trail, there are campgrounds, grills, and shelters. While this trail doesn't have as impressive landmarks as some of our other videos, the waterfalls are well worth it if you prefer an easy but pleasant hike. There are actually three waterfalls on Frogtown Creek, called Upper DeSoto Falls, Middle Desoto Falls and Lower DeSoto Falls. The upper waterfall drops 200 feet (61 m), the middle waterfall drops 67 feet (20 m) and the lower waterfall drops 35 feet (11 m). The overall height of the falls, as measured inclusive of non-vertical falls, cascades and steep stream bed, is 480 feet (150 m).[1] DeSoto Falls are located at an elevation of 3,560-foot (1,090 m) on Rocky Mountain. The DeSoto Falls are named for Spanish explorer Hernando deSoto, who passed through Georgia around 1540. Used by the confederates in 1863 to track Union troops, today we hike to Sunset rock from Cravens House. This trail is located on lookout mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee. According to many locals, this is one of the very best hiking trails in the region. Halfway through and on, it provides many areas for bouldering and rock climbing. It is part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga Military State Park, the largest and oldest Civil War national park.[5][6] Once known as Point Lookout, Sunset Rock provides a view of the Tennessee River, Signal Mountain and Prentice Cooper State Forest.[7][8] The 100-foot cliff and moderate temperatures invite heavy traffic for its many climbing routes, which were completed in 1960. Sunset Rock is mainly sandstone, making for easier routing and climbing. Route development continued through the 1960s and 1970s. In the 1980s, routers pushed the grades ever higher. Climbing here is especially popular in the autumn months due to cooler weather.[9] Sunset Rock is attractive to Civil War enthusiasts due to its history; it has a Tennessee Historical Commission Marker at the head of the trail, describing its Civil War battle history. Confederate Generals Braxton Bragg and James Longstreet[10] used Sunset Rock as a lookout in 1863 where they were able to track the movement of the Union troops as they entered Lookout Valley. The waterfall is accessible via a half mile (800 m) paved trail from a public use area with a small admittance charge. The Anna Ruby Falls Trail is designated a National Recreation Trail in Georgia.[1] Anna Ruby Falls is actually twin waterfalls created where two separate streams- Curtis Creek and York Creek- join at the base of the falls to form Smith Creek, which flows into Unicoi Lake. Both Curtis and York creeks begin on Tray Mountain, Georgia's sixth-highest peak: Curtis Creek drops 153 feet (47 m) and York Creek drops 50 feet (15 m). Whiteside Mountain or Sanigilâ'gĭ in Cherokee is a mountain in Jackson County, North Carolina between Cashiers, Highlands, North Carolina, and the Georgia border.[1] Whiteside Mountain can boast the highest cliffs in Eastern North America.[2] It also has a feature called Devil's Courthouse,[3] not to be confused with the Devil's Courthouse 20 miles away in Transylvania County, NC.[4] Since the 1980s, the forest service has tried to restrict access to the Courthouse and has allowed the foot trail to it to grow over because of dangers such as strong winds. They also did not want accidents from paragliding and similar activities taking place from the mountain top or from the Courthouse. There is also an overhang, a small platform less than 7 feet in diameter, connected to Whiteside as if it were a cantilever. I traveled to every single city and town of all sizes in the state of Georgia. I filmed the city square of every single one and put it in this compilation video. I found 373 city squares total. Keep in mind, many towns or cities in Georgia don’t have a square. So to be clear, this a simply a compilation video of only the square of every city that has one. There are also many larger cities that doesn’t have a prominent city center such as holly springs, John’s creek, Warner bros, etc. Other terms of city square are downtown, city center, or town square. For our very first kayaking and stand up paddle boarding video, we head down "Little River" from Olde Rope Mill Park located in Woodstock, Georgia. After roughly 1.6 miles of paddling near the opening of Lake Allatoona, we veered right on a split-off to a swampy looking area with underwater trees. The Little River is located mostly in Cherokee County, and forms the jagged part of the Cherokee/Fulton (formerly Cherokee/Milton) county line, and part of the more recent Milton city limit. The river flows generally from east to west, and divides the Woodstock area to the south and Holly Springs area to the north. Its largest tributary is Noonday Creek, a stream which flows north out of Cobb and through Cherokee County, and now also empties directly into the lake. The confluence with the Etowah River is now submerged beneath Lake Allatoona. The river begins as a small stream between Free Home and Holbrook, just west of the Cherokee/Forsyth county line and just south of Georgia State Route 20 (SR 20), along Free Home Road. It flows south-southwest, crossing Free Home Highway (SR 372), then roughly paralleling Birmingham Road (also SR 372) to the road's west. After passing through Almond Lake (where it receives a tributary from the north), and picking-up another tributary from the east-northeast, it becomes part of the county line, except for a small section entirely on Fulton/Milton side between Clarity Road and Hickory Flat Highway (SR 140), which may have been a former route for the river. There are also other places where the line diverges slightly to the west side of the river. Just before the Ansley Golf Club at Settindown Creek, the county line diverges due south, and the river continues west. After Trickum Road, it meanders generally northwest, meeting Rubes Creek and Mill Creek at the same point, just before Canton Highway (Main Street in Woodstock) at the north end of J.J. Biello Park. Continuing northwest, it passes Rope Mill Park just before crossing Interstate 575, and begins to widen into the lake just before meeting Toonigh Creek.
