(Photo by Warner Bros/courtesy Everett Collection) For as long as King’s been been publishing, Hollywood’s been knock-knock-knockin’ on Stephen’s door for more. First came 1976’s Carrie, two years after he published that first novel, which made household names of the author, Brian De Palma, Sissy Spacek, and the humiliating viscosity of pig’s blood. The 1980s saw a slew of adaptations, the highlights beingThe Shining, Stand by Me, and The Running Man (the book for which was published under pulp fall-guy name Richard Bachman). When Professor Hecat mentions being an Unspeakable, she refuses to elaborate - but curious players can learn more about this mysterious job. In Hogwarts Legacy , Professor Hecat reveals that she was formerly an Unspeakable, but what exactly does this mysterious title mean? As its name would imply (and as she quickly makes it known), speaking about this particular job is strictly forbidden. Unfortunately, this means that players won't get to learn much about who the Unspeakables are from the Defense Against The Dark Arts professor herself. However, there is some amount of extra information that can appease their curiosity for this piece of Harry Potter lore. Although her position as an Unspeakable arguably makes Professor Hecat the most interesting out of her colleagues, she isn't the only one to have worked for the Ministry of Magic before teaching at Hogwarts. Professor Sharp, who teaches potions, fought against the forces of dark magic as an Auror before an injury forced him to switch careers. Deputy Headmistress and Transfiguration Professor Matilda Weasley, who is related to Ron, worked as a Curse-Breaker. But while Sharp and Weasley are more open to discussing their previous Ministry jobs, Professor Hecat takes care not to reveal anything about Unspeakables or what they do in Hogwarts Leagacy. Hogwarts Legacy's Unspeakables Remain Mysterious Since all Unspeakables follow this same silent rule, the true nature of their job still remains largely a mystery across Harry Potter lore. However, a few crucial details have been leaked across the years, and they have some fascinating implications. For example, according to Albus Dumbledore, one of the most highly-guarded sects in the Department of Mysteries is the Love Chamber. Other known sects include the Thought Chamber, Time Chamber, and Death Chamber. It's unclear what sort of research happens behind closed doors, but judging from their titles, it looks as though Hogwarts Legacy's Unspeakables aim to harness the power behind some of the world's most complex concepts. Hogwarts Legacy: Why Unspeakables Can't Talk About Their Jobs In Harry Potter Lore Unfortunately, this is one thing that Hogwarts Legacy players won't find any additional information about during playthroughs, because even if Professor Hecat wanted to share more about her work as an Unspeakable, she would be severely punished for it. According to Harry Potter lore, he Ministry of Magic has put strict laws in place to avoid the outsourcing of information, and the penalties can vary greatly. Some Unspeakables who have tried to remove artifacts from the Department of Mysteries were ultimately stopped in their tracks by extremely powerful and harmful enchantments, which in some cases permanently affected their mental health. Others have gotten punishments as harsh as a life sentence in Azkaban. Given their cloudy reputation and their study of the world's biggest mysteries, it's only understandable that students might want to learn more about who the Unspeakables are and what they do in the Harry Potter universe. But unless they want Professor Hecat to visit Azbakan in Hogwarts Legacy , additional information doesn't seem likely. For now, players will need to use their imagination and fill in the blanks to determine who the Unspeakables are in Hogwarts Legacy . The Justice League is about to come face-to-face with living nightmares, and the only hope they have is one of their most unexpected allies. DC has revealed its new Knight Terrors event and hints how Deadman is the heroes' secret weapon. DC has finally provided details on its next big event, Knight Terrors, the newest saga for the Dawn of DC initiative. Throughout July and August, DC will put out two-issue miniseries that show its heroes and villains encountering threats in a Nightmare Realm, something that will have huge consequences in the real world. Kicking off with a mystery in the Hall of Justice that involves one of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman's oldest enemies, the team is taken all over the map. Venturing beyond the land of the dead and into a world of literal nightmares, the team finds themselves facing dark and powerful threats. However, the heroes have a secret ace in the hole, as they are still able to get help from the ethereal, undead hero, Deadman. The Ghostly Deadman is the Justice League's Best Ally Fans of Justice League Dark may recall that Deadman was once an aerialist that performed in circuses and was renowned for his death-defying stunts. However, he was assassinated in one performance and became Deadman, a ghost hero trapped on the mortal plane of existence. Deadman is one of the loneliest of heroes in that he can’t directly interact with the majority of other DC characters. However, his unique situation makes him perfect for information gathering, and he can also possess people to serve as a means of communication. Boston Brand is probably not the most in-demand hero, but he's helped the Justice League plenty in the past. Deadman might not seem to be the kind of hero who can help in most situations, but the truth is, he’s at his best when facing supernatural threats. During the Black Lanterns' invasion, Deadman was one of the first DC heroes to become aware of the calamity. Not to mention, his possession powers gave him insights that gave Earth’s forces a chance to fight back when the Green Lantern Corps was spread too thin. Deadman is exactly the sort of hero the League will need on their side if they're about to square off against supernatural evil. Deadman is at His Best Facing Off Against Paranormal Evil While details are mum on exactly what sort of threat will imperil the Trinity, it’s highly likely that it will involve the undead. And in a situation that involves zombies, the Justice League Dark’s Deadman is exactly the sort of hero anyone would want fighting with them. As one of the few people linking the land of the living to the realm of the dead, Deadman is someone who could help Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman, no matter which side of the mortal coil they wind up on. Fans can see how the Justice League’s secret weapon will work out for them when Knight Terrors launches this summer. Next: The DC Universe is A Living Nightmare in New KNIGHT TERRORS Takeover

Why District 6's Tributes Are Called Morphlings In The Hunger Games
Catching Fire featured past tributes in the Quarter Quall games, two significant addition were the Morphlings, but why were they called Morphlings? First described in Catching Fire , District 6's "Morphlings" tributes are a crucial element of the story, and their unusual name reveals a lot about their characters. The Morphlings are introduced as the past winners of the Hunger Games are called back into the arena in the second installment of the series. Representing District 6 in the 75th Hunger Games, the Morphlings had each won one of the past editions respectively. Although it is not specified which one, they had to be Hunger Games victors before the events of Catching Fire take place and had most likely taken on the mentor responsibilities for their district ever since then. The Morphlings names are never revealed in Catching Fire as Katniss and the others only refer to them as Morphlings. Haymitch himself, who has known both of them for years as a Hunger Games mentor, introduces them as the Morphlings as Katniss and Peeta watch the other Hunger Games districts' reapings. While presented as mostly harmless in terms of competing with other tributes in Catching Fire, during their respective Hunger Games, the Morphlings both used camouflage to hide until the other tributes were dead, which proves to be a useful tactic in Catching Fire as well. However, the name "Morphling" has nothing to do with the pair's survival strategy. Hunger Games' District 6 Victors Were Addicted To Morphling The reason why the District 6 tributes in Catching Fire are called Morphlings is evident in the name itself. In fact, it is revealed early on in Catching Fire that after they won the Hunger Games the two both became addicted to Morphling to cope with the trauma they underwent during the Hunger Games. As established at the beginning of Catching Fire, Morphling is a narcotic painkiller that is used to treat severe injuries or illnesses in the Hunger Games world. Described as quite expensive, it is a drug that can easily create addiction, thus leading to severe side effects. While Catching Fire cuts an important Haymitch's backstory, it shows the effects of Morphling addiction. In fact, Morphling made the tributes' skin sag and yellow and their eyes wide, while their physical abilities were forever altered. The Morphling's plot, albeit brief, gives further insight into the brutality of the games. Their addiction to Morphling is a direct consequence of the Games for which the Capital is responsible, just like all the victors have to find a way to cope with the post-traumatic stress of the Hunger Games, which is shown through Haymitch's alcohol addiction and Katniss' constant nightmares in Catching Fire as well. What Happened To the Morphlings In The Hunger Games Movies Both Morphlings die during the Hunger Games in Catching Fire, after the female tribute from District 6 protects Peeta from the monkey mutations that attack the tribute. She dies in Peeta's arms while looking at the sunset. The Morphlings are key to the other tributes' survival in Hunger Games as their presence foreshadows the plan to get Katniss and Peeta out of the arena, which is only revealed at the end of Catching Fire. In fact, as the Games continue, Peeta keeps questioning why she would want to save him, thus showing a more human side to the tributes in Catching Fire. Although they are in poor physical condition by the time the Quarter Quell happens in Catching Fire, the Morphlings are still evidently capable and present enough, at least mentally, to be trusted with the rebellion plans by Haymitch. Moreover, they choose to sacrifice themselves in order to protect Peeta and Katniss during the Games, thus showing that, while their physical health was deteriorating due to the Morphlings, they wer...

TAGGED AS: movies, Rocky In 1976, on the country’s bicentennial, America got the the great underdog movie of its time: Rocky. The story of Rocky Balboa is one borne out of the streets, a place where a young fighter could emerge from working class Philadelphia chasing a dream of victory in the ring and in love, paralleling writer/actor Sylvester Stallone’s own rags-to-riches story. Stallone directed the next three movies in the series, including the communism-defeating Rocky IV, while original Rocky John G. Avildsen returned for part V.
Not one to squander a good redemption arc, Stallone revived the character 16 years later in 2006’s Rocky Balboa, delivering the respectful ending his creation deserved. Stallone was able to rest easy until a young upstart director named Ryan Coogler came knocking, screenplay in hand about the son of Rocky’s rival, Apollo Creed. Inspired by Coogler’s vision and passion, and the opportunity to bet it all on Rocky once more, Stallone came on-board to train the next generation’s underdog hero, Michael B. Jordan. The three Creed movies are among the highest-rated of the franchise, with the third featuring Jordan himself in the director’s chair. Now, we’re ranking all Rocky and Creed movies by Tomatometer! —Alex Vo #1 Adjusted Score: 106842% Critics Consensus: Creed brings the Rocky franchise off the mat for a surprisingly effective seventh round that extends the boxer's saga in interesting new directions while staying true to its classic predecessors' roots. Synopsis: Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died before Adonis was born.... [More] #2 Adjusted Score: 97455% Critics Consensus: This story of a down-on-his-luck boxer is thoroughly predictable, but Sylvester Stallone's script and stunning performance in the title role brush aside complaints. Synopsis: Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), a small-time boxer from working-class Philadelphia, is arbitrarily chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight... [More] #3 Adjusted Score: 100603% Critics Consensus: Stepping out from Rocky Balboa's iconic shadow at last, the Creed franchise reasserts its champion status thanks to star Michael B. Jordan's punchy direction and a nuanced heel turn by Jonathan Majors. Synopsis: After dominating the boxing world, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has been thriving in both his career and family life.... [More] #4 Adjusted Score: 98191% Critics Consensus: Creed II's adherence to franchise formula adds up to a sequel with few true surprises, but its time-tested generational themes still pack a solid punch. Synopsis: In 1985, Russian boxer Ivan Drago killed former U.S. champion Apollo Creed in a tragic match that stunned the world.... [More] #5 Adjusted Score: 83379% Critics Consensus: Implausible but entertaining and poignant, Rocky Balboa finds the champ in fighting form for the first time in years. Synopsis: Now long-retired, Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) runs a Philadelphia eatery and mourns the loss of his beloved wife, Adrian. Yearning to... [More] #6 Adjusted Score: 63417% Critics Consensus: No consensus yet. #7 Adjusted Score: 73984% Critics Consensus: Rocky II is a movie that dares you to root again for the ultimate underdog -- and succeeds due to an infectiously powerful climax. [More] #8 Adjusted Score: 69753% Critics Consensus: It's noticeably subject to the law of diminishing returns, but Rocky III still has enough brawny spectacle to stand in the ring with the franchise's better entries. All Rocky & Creed Movies Ranked After Creed III
It’s incredible how well the Rocky movies have aged over the years. After nearly five decades, Rocky Balboa’s story inspires and entertains despite hundreds of knockoffs and parodies. The franchise has retained its popularity with Creed III now available in theaters. As such, we’re diving into the Rocky saga to determine which boxing epic is the best by ranking the best Rocky and Creed movies. 9. 9. Rocky V (1990) Rocky IV felt like a fitting end to the Rocky Balboa story — how do you top Rocky single-handedly ending the Cold War? — but Stallone decided to take another crack at our slow-witted hero and gifted audiences … Rocky V . Awkward silence. You gotta hand it to Stallone. The man takes serious chances with his beloved characters and isn’t afraid to mix things up now and again. In this case, he decides to take Rocky back to his street-level roots, resulting in a well-intentioned but disappointing chapter that sees the iconic boxer — now poor and severely brain-damaged — taking on Tommy Gun, a former student-turned-psychopath. Sounds compelling, right? Unfortunately, Rocky V limps along without much juice. While the pic dutifully sets up the next batch of films (intentional or not), it lacks the human element that made the original Rocky a classic and dumps the commercial swagger that turned Rocky IV into one of the great pics of the 1980s. It’s undoubtedly a fascinating exercise and worth a watch. Still, at this point, it was clear that Rocky needed to retire. 8. Rocky II (1979) After Rocky’s astounding success, a sequel was all but inevitable; credit to everyone involved for defying the odds and crafting a follow-up that was, at the very least, passable entertainment. However, this by-the-numbers entry feels like a cynical cash grab, even if it still finds exciting ways to challenge its likable characters. Rocky struggles with his newfound fame and fortune. Eventually, he loses all his money, necessitating another boxing match with Creed — who, by contrast, grapples with his failure in the ring. When the two men meet for a rematch, we understand their motivations, leading to a surprisingly effective (and moving) conclusion. Unfortunately, despite some high points, Rocky II only partially justifies its existence. Put bluntly, this movie didn’t need to happen. Rocky Balboa was an everyman who took advantage of a fantastic opportunity. Once he goes toe-to-toe with the champ and wins the girl, his story is complete. Stallone knows this and uses Rocky II to perform a soft reboot of the franchise, repositioning his downtrodden fighter as a comic book hero capable of defeating anyone. The transition may not be the smoothest, but Rocky II sets our boy up for long-term success — for better or worse. 7. Rocky Balboa (2006) I was initially disappointed by Rocky Balboa and its grounded approach to the material. However, after multiple viewings, I think it is a solid entry in the long-running franchise, even if it lacks the pizazz that made the original foursome so much fun. This sixth chapter finds Rocky spending his days operating a humble Italian restaurant where he regales customers with stories about his past. Adrian is dead, you see? And so Rocky has no one but Paulie and his deadbeat son, Robert Balboa, Jr. When fate comes calling, Rocky seizes the opportunity to step into the ring again, this time in an exhibition match against a young punk named Mason “The Line” Dixon. Rocky Balboa lacks dramatic tension and feels more like fan service than a necessary sequel. Still, following Rocky V , at least the film gives the guy a proper send-off until Creed summoned him back from the dead a decade later. The bout between Rocky and Mason is fun but also a tad anticlimactic, particularly for those expecting the hard-hitting spectacle of Rocky I-IV . No matter, Rocky B...

Why is it that so many British artists are refusing to perform at the coronation concert?
We know that Adele and Elton John, Ed Sheeran and the Spice Girls, as well as Harry Styles, have turned down the invitations to perform at King Charles’ coronation concert. This is part of the three-day Chubbly holiday. Sheeran has performed at several royal or royal-adjacent events, including the Platinum Jubbly last year. It seems like Charles is the only one who can see the beauty in the situation. Rolling Stone asks: "Why don't big stars want to perform at Charles' Coronation?" No more cheekiness: "The Nineties in British pop culture were so different." It was New Labour. Everyone was...

It seems like Charles is the only one who can see the beauty in the situation. Rolling Stone asks: "Why don't big stars want to perform at Charles' Coronation?" No more cheekiness: "The Nineties in British pop culture were so different." It was New Labour. Everyone was playful and being slightly cheeky," says Michael Cragg (author of Reach For The Stars), a book about British pop music from the Nineties and the '00s. Cragg states that "that cheekiness absolutely doesn't exist anymore." We want to find out who people are, and what version of the Royal Family we have learned about recently via Prince Harry's book. It is impossible to be the most successful band in the world and still kiss them. Artists are concerned about the backlash: "The royal family is facing a series of PR disasters in recent years, and anyone performing at this show would have to think whether there would be any backlash from appearing amongst them," Simon Jones, PR to Little Mix and Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson. For many artists, it's easy. Kingsley Hall, of Benefits, explained that the British cultural climate is not as complicated as it seems. The 2022 anti-monarchy song "Flag" reached number one on the Official UK Vinyl. He said, "We have had so much exposure, negative exposure of Royal family - jubilees and weddings, falls out, accusations of racism. Notable deaths. Someone being accused of sexual predator - all in what I would consider a very short time. People are tired of it and won't participate for that reason. Royalism is a bad idea. Meg, the head of a prominent British music PR firm, says Styles and Adele are both at a point in their careers when they have to redefine themselves beyond a decade of success in music. Meg, whose full name was withheld, says that storytelling is very important for Styles and Adele right now. These big symbolic associations have a lot of weight. They literally go down in history books as bolded and underlined. It's understandable why artists would be in a lot of PR debate about whether they do it. Charles is not the nation's grandfather. Meg says, "I don’t know what artists have to gain by associating himself with him." "With the Queen she was fab, and glamorous to some people. Charles does not add anything. There is no legacy of Charles that anyone would like to be associated with. The broadcast is televised so many people will hear your songs. However, in terms of long-term PR strategy, I don’t know if performing would positively impact an artist’s narrative unless they are staunchly pro monarchy. The UK's cost of living crisis: Ellie (whose real/full identity has been withheld at request), founder and CEO of a British pop-music PR company says that "if you strip back the gold and the red cloak, you will find a country in which parents have to choose between feeding their children or keeping them warm." What is the cost of the coronation to the taxpayer? It's a political statement. Adele is not for the royals, but the working class: Grace Martha, a superfan of Adele from London, notes that Adele is proud to be a champion of being part of the working class in Tottenham, one the most ethnically diverse parts of Britain. Martha says that the pomp and expense of this coronation doesn't reflect her values. Martha says that this issue is very specific to American culture. Americans may think, "Oh, she's from London, a cockney. Why wouldn't she do that?" But they don’t know the nuances of different cultur...

Nixon wanted—and got—hisdecent intervalbetween the United States pullout of Vietnam and the inevitable North Vietnamese takeover. Afghanistan’s interval was never going to be decent, but I confess I expected an interval. We’re scrambling to leave in time, we’re racing for the helicopters as the Taliban burns through Afghanistan like a forest fire.
I remember Afghanistan well. I deployed there twice—once in 2008, and again in 2009–2010. It was already obvious that the Taliban would sweep through the very instant we left. And here we are today.
I know how bad the Taliban is. I know what they do to women and little boys. I know what they’re going to do to the interpreters and the people who cooperated with us, it’s awful, it’s bad, but we are leaving, and all I feel is grim relief. [F]inally, you fuckers, finally you have to face the thing Afghanistan has always been. You can’t keep lying to yourself about what you sent us into. This is what I remember:
I remember Afghanistan as a dusty beige nightmare of a place full of proud, brave people who did not fucking want us there. We called them Hajjis and worse and they were better than we were, braver and stronger and smarter.
I remember going through the phones of the people we detained and finding clip after clip of Bollywood musicals, women singing in fields of flowers. Rarely did I find anything incriminating.
I remember finding propaganda footage cut together from the Soviet invasion and our own Operation Enduring Whatever. I remember laughing about how stupid the Afghans were to not know we aren’t the Russians and then, eventually, realizing that I was the stupid one.
I remember how every year the US would have to decide how to deal with the opium fields. There were a few options. You could leave the fields alone, and then the Taliban would shake the farmers down and use the money to buy weapons. Or, you could carpet bomb the fields, and then the farmers would join the Taliban for reasons that, to me, seem obvious.
The third option, and the one we went for while I was there, was to give the farmers fertilizer as an incentive to grow wheat instead of opium poppy. The farmers then sold the fertilizer to the Taliban, who used it to make explosives for IEDs that could destroy a million dollar MRAP and maim everyone inside.
I remember we weren’t allowed to throw batteries away because people who worked on base would go through the trash and collect hundreds of dead batteries, wire them together so they had just enough juice for one charge, and use that charge to detonate an IED.
I remember the look on my roommate’s face after she got back from cutting the dead bodies of two soldiers out of an HMMWV that got blown up by an IED that I have always imagined was made with fertilizer from an opium farmer and detonated with a hundred thrown-out batteries.
I remember an Afghan kid who worked in the DFAC (cafeteria) who we called Cowboy. He always wore this cowboy hat and an “I’m with stupid” t-shirt someone had given him, always with a big smile, high school age.
Cowboy was a good student. His family, who all worked on base, was incredibly proud of him. He wanted to go to college in America. But there weren’t colleges that took Afghans, the education system was too shit. No program to help kids like him. I looked.
I wonder if he’s dead now, for serving us food and dreaming of something different.
But if Cowboy is dead then he died a long time ago, and if Cowboy is dead it’s our fault for going there in the first place, giving his family the option of trusting us when we are the least trustworthy people on the planet.
We use people up and thro...

The director of the original Alien, Ridley Scott, is set to produce the movie alongside Michael Pruss under their Scott Free banner, while Brent O’Connor, Elizabeth Cantillon, and Tom Moran will executive produce. “In this ninth entry in the immensely popular and enduring film series, a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe,” reads the upcoming film’s synopsis. The new film is said to be “unconnected” to previous films. A fan of the iconic franchise himself, Álvarez had pitched a film idea to Scott several years ago in a casual conversation. This eventually led to Scott calling the director to see if he was still interested and it was quickly set. 20th Century then picked up the newAlienmovie due to the strength of Álvarez’s pitch, as it was a “really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before,” according to 20th Century’s Steve Asbell.

After a significant time away, The Mandalorian has returned to Disney+. But much has changed since Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) said goodbye to Grogu in the season 2 finale — including their reunion on a different show.

After a significant time away, The Mandalorian has returned to Disney+. But much has changed since Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) said goodbye to Grogu in the season 2 finale — including their reunion on a different show.
Naturally enough, the first episode of the program’s third season, “Chapter 17: The Apostate,” attempts to cover some of the material and update the state of the universe since we last saw Djarin and his child face off against a crime syndicate in The Book of Boba Fett , but there is still much to discuss about how it all ties together and just how much time has passed between seasons. So let’s dive in and see if we can’t get our chronometers aligned. Spoiler alert: The following contains details about The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1, “Chapter 17: The Apostate.” Stop reading here if you haven’t watched the episode and wish to avoid spoilers. The Cliffhanger That Wasn’t (Photo by Lucasfilm Ltd.)
Season 2 ended on something of a cliffhanger. Grogu left with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill, pictured in season 2 above) to train as a Jedi, but Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), Koska Reeves (Mercedes Varnado), and Cara Dune (Gina Carano) were left aboard the Imperial Remnant cruiser to deal with the next problem: Bo-Katan’s claim to the Darksaber. Since Djarin won it in battle from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), the only way she could take it and secure the right to rule over all Mandalorians was to best Djarin in a fight.
But when Djarin took over The Book of Boba Fett for an episode (or three), he still possessed the legendary weapon, a lightsaber forged by the first Mandalorian Jedi and the symbol of office for Mando royalty. Somehow, he left the cruiser with the issue unresolved. So much so, in fact, that when he finally caught up with the Armorer (Emily Swallow), he had to asked questions about Bo-Katan and the Darksaber. Something in the plan clearly changed. (Tait Fletcher as Paz Vizla fights Din Djarin for the Darksaber in an image from The Book of Boba Fett “Chapter 5” below.) (Photo by Lucasfilm Ltd.)
Granted, it is unclear what creator Jon Favreau originally meant to occur at the start of season 3 from the standpoint of where the program was two years ago — he has learned from fellow executive producer Dave Filoni how to evade questions — but we know from the 2020 Disney Day Investors presentation that The Mandalorian was supposed to expand in a very significant way. At the time, the series was to intersect with upcoming Ahsoka and a third series, Rangers of the New Republic in some grand, culminating event. By 2021, though, Rangers was put on hold indefinitely, The Mandalorian changed production schedules, and The Book of Boba Fett took its place in its traditional winter release slot for 2021/2022. We surmise that Boba Fett ultimately had to carry some storylines forward to get to where Favreau now wanted The Mandalorian’s third season to begin; hence, over several episodes of Boba Fett , we see Grogu training with Luke and Djarin wandering before the duo are reunited.
And in recent days, Favreau has added a new wrinkle: the two years between seasons are now part of the story, with Grogu’s training at the new Jedi Academy lasting nearly as long. Of course, the exact time the diminutive Force-user spent with Luke is unknown, but the expansion of what seemed to be a pretty tight timeline leads to questions and opportunities for the program going forward. “That’s High Magistrate” (Photo by Lucasfilm Ltd.)
One of the most obvious ways the show can reveal the progression of time is with its initial setting: the planet Nevarro. Originally depicted as a dusty backwater where bounty hunters found work and the Remnant could operate without fear of the New Republic, Djarin and Grogu’s trip ba...

Succession's Cut S4 Plan Would've Made A More Surprising (But Worse) Ending
Home TV Features Succession's Cut S4 Plan Would've Made A More Surprising (But Worse) Ending Succession ending with season 4 was disappointing news to viewers, but the alternate cut plan for the show would've made Succession's ending worse. Home TV Features Succession's Cut S4 Plan Would've Made A More Surprising (But Worse) Ending Succession ending with season 4 was disappointing news to viewers, but the alternate cut plan for the show would've made Succession's ending worse. The cut plan for Succession season 4 would've made for a more surprising ending, but potentially worse for the show. The HBO satirical comedy-drama focuses on the Roy family, especially siblings Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Connor (Alan Ruck), as they fight for control of their father, Logan's (Brian Cox), media company, Waystar Royco. In an interview with The New Yorker, Jesse Armstrong confirmed that Succession season 4 would be the show's last. While this news may disappoint audiences, Armstrong's decision is for the best, especially compared to the alternative plan he had for Succession. In the New Yorker interview, Jesse Armstrong discusses Succession ending with season 4 and discusses other scenarios the writers thought up. Armstrong mentions they considered doing "a couple of short seasons, or two more seasons." They also thought about continuing the show "for ages" and turning Succession into a "more rangy, freewheeling, kind of fun show." Ultimately, Armstrong preferred to "do something a bit more muscular and complete" and go out strong. While continuing the show is an intriguing idea, it's best that Succession finishes its run with one final season to cap off its tightly-plotted story and finely-crafted character arcs. Succession S4 Ending The Show Is Better Than It Continuing Indefinitely It's better if Succession season 4 ends the show rather than continuing indefinitely. If Jesse Armstrong had Succession "go on for ages," it's probable that the show would still be engaging and sharply written and acted. However, it wouldn't have the same punch as a smaller and crisper four-season run. There have been great shows with more than four seasons, but Succession feels like a show that works best with just four. Succession season 4 is already shaping up to be an incredibly intriguing watch; the plot of the Roy siblings banding together against Logan is the perfect material for a final season of Succession. Succession having a definite endpoint benefits the show. It allows Armstrong and the writers to set up a proper ending for the series and the characters of Succession . A problem some shows have once they reach a certain point is how to continue the story, often spinning their wheels instead of finding organic ways to advance the plot and evolve the characters. Deciding to end Succession with season 4 allows the writers to bring the Roy family saga to a natural conclusion. It lets Succession be a more complete series, which is better than the "freewheeling" idea previously discussed between Armstrong and the other show writers. Succession Could've Used Its Cut Plan (But It Would've Hurt The Show) Jesse Armstrong could've implemented the cut plan for Succession, but it could be detrimental to the show in the long run. The writers extending the show's run past Succession season 4 risks the story becoming drawn out. The HBO show has a great team of writers, but there is a chance that they could eventually run out of ideas and end up inventing contrived plots for the characters. So it's better for there to be a clear endpoint, so the writers can plan their storylines accordingly and conclude the show while it still feels fresh. Another issue with Succession's cut plan is that the show could've been canceled or faced with other circumstances that meant it wasn't able to create a satisfying ending. While the HBO Max show has enjoyed acclaim and has a good bit of popularity, there could still be a chance that the network could h...

Home TV Features The Mandalorian's Entire Boba Fett Arc Has Already Been Retconned Din Djarin returned in The Book of Boba Fett, but now The Mandalorian season 3’s premiere has completely retconned Mando’s arc in the spinoff series. This article contains SPOILERS for The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1. The Mandalorian season 3 has retconned Din Djarin’s entire The Book of Boba Fett arc. Though a Mandalorian cameo in The Book of Boba Fett was expected, it was surprising to see Mando receive that much screen time on a show about Boba Fett. More than stealing the spotlight from Star Wars’ original bounty hunter, Mando and Grogu’s roles in the spinoff series were unexpectedly tied to events that would have worked much better in The Mandalorian season 3. Grogu’s reunion with the Mandalorian, for example, was way too big of an event to be placed outside of the characters’ actual show. Likewise, having Din learn the history and responsibility tied with wielding the Darksaber could have been saved for The Mandalorian season 3. The biggest continuity problem regarding The Mandalorian and Boba Fett, however, involves Din Djarin and the Armorer. The Mandalorian Season 3 Flips Din Djarin The Armorer's Role The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1 “The Apostate” flipped the dynamic between Din Djarin and the Armorer presented in The Book of Boba Fett. During Boba Fett episode 5, which was very much a The Mandalorian season 2.5 placed in another show, Din Djarin reunited with the Armorer for the first time after removing his helmet twice during the events of The Mandalorian season 2. Raised in a Mandalorian cult in which removing the helmet in front of others is absolutely forbidden, Din had no choice but to confess to the Armorer what he had done. In Boba Fett, the Armorer specifically tells Din to go to Mandalore's Living Waters to seek atonement. The problem is that, in The Book of Boba Fett, Din Djarin said that he could not go to Mandalore, and it was up to the Armorer to reinforce that this was the only way Mando could restore his honor and earn his place back among his peers. However, in The Mandalorian season 3, Mando is the one telling the Armorer that he needs to go to Mandalore, with the latter now opposing the idea. A significant Boba Fett retcon, Din and the Armorer’s conversation in The Mandalorian season 3’s premiere completely inverts their relationship, as Mando is now in the position of agency. Why Has The Mandalorian Season 3 Retconned The Boba Fett Arc? The decision to have Mando and Grogu’s story continues in The Book of Boba Fett prior to The Mandalorians season 3 is proving to be a confusing one. Resolving the biggest The Mandalorian season 2 cliffhanger before the show even returned for a season 3 in a spinoff series hardly made sense, as not everyone who watches The Mandalorian would necessarily watch The Book of Boba Fett. The result is The Mandalorian season 3 either having to recap and explain things from Boba Fett with exposition dialogue or simply retconning and ignoring moments from the spinoff Star Wars TV show. Mando and the Armorer’s dynamic falls into the second. From a narrative standpoint, having the main character refuse to go on a quest that he absolutely needs to embrace for the story to progress does not work in the long term. Din Djarin has to go to Mandalore looking for redemption for The Mandalorian season 3’s story to work, which is why it is more interesting for Mando to accept his quest and then find some sort of obstacle. Neither the Armorer nor Bo-Katan is particularly fond of Din Djarin and his journey, which adds to the idea that Mando and Grogu cannot trust many people in the Star Wars galaxy. Jason Blum, the Founder and CEO of Blumhouse, also added that they’re looking to find someone “who appreciates and loves the world” of Dead by Daylight to help bring the game to the big screen. “We know there are so many fans of Dead by Daylight out there and think it’s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen,” said Blum. “We know our partners at Behaviour and Atomic Monster will help us bring the best version of this game to life.” Since its launch in 2016, Dead by Daylight has become a smash hit in the video game world. The game has reached over 50 million players worldwide, with two million active players playing every day. The general idea behind the game sees a group of players trying to hide and escape from one killer. While the game is famous for incorporating a wide variety of horror icons into the game — including characters from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and more — the game does its own lore and ongoing story, which is likely what the film will focus on when it eventually releases.

It’s puns out, guns out as we knock out our selections of what you should watch this week. Weighing in alongside the third Creed movie is the third season of The Mandalorian — coincidentally featuring the original Apollo Creed, Carl Weathers — as well as a rocking new series on Amazon Prime Video, a sequel series to a certain classic Mel Brooks movie, and a special but absolutely not surprising awards pick. 87% Creed III (2023) Entering the ring — aka theaters — is Creed III , the ninth installment in the Rocky franchise and the third in the spin-off Creed film series. We are happy to report that the film is, like its two predecessors, Certified Fresh, currently at 87% on the Tomatometer. This time around, watch out for the 1-2 punch as Michael B. Jordan not only stars as the titular character once again but also makes his feature film directorial debut. Thank goodness, because the guy is clearly running out of talent. And let’s go for the knockout here: Jordan has confirmed this is the first sports movie to be shot on IMAX cameras, immersing you into the fights on a level no other sports movie has to date. Where to Watch: In theaters 85% The Mandalorian: Season 3 (2023) Landing on the world of Mandalore for the first time is Disney+’s third season of The Mandalorian , following two very Certified Fresh seasons already floating out in the galaxy. The big force pull for this season is Mando and Grogu will be visiting Mandalore, the Mandalorian homeworld, in order to see if Mando may be forgiven for what he calls his “transgressions” over the past two seasons. And with the sea of friends and foes Mando has picked up over the series, like Bo-Katan, Moff Gideon, and deepfake Luke Skywalker, the season is sure to crackle with excitement for fans who have been following along. Where to Watch: Disney+ 75% Daisy Jones the Six: Season 1 (2023) Coming to Prime Video is the miniseries Daisy Jones the Six , which counts Reese Witherspoon among its executive producers. With stars Riley Keough, Camila Morrone, and Sam Claflin leading the way, this limited series is presented in a documentary style as it follows a rock band’s rise to legendary status in the 1970s. It’s based on the book of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, which itself is based on her own experiences growing up and following the roller coaster career of the one and only Fleetwood Mac. Where to Watch: Prime Video 76% History of the World: Part II: Season 1 (2023) Arriving a full 42 years after the film History of the World: Part I is this sequel series on Hulu, History of the World: Part II . With EGOT winner Mel Brooks — the man behind the classic movie — serving as executive producer, this series picks up where its predecessor left off, with comedy sketches parodying civilization’s most important moments and figures. The show, like the movie, will be jam-packed with big names including — and this is just a fraction — Ike Barinholtz, Seth Rogen, Danny DeVito, Taika Waititi, David Duchovny, and Sarah Silverman, among others, not to mention the man himself, Mel Brooks. Where to Watch: Hulu 95% Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) And finally, with awards season in full effect, Everything Everywhere All at Once has been absolutely sweeping awards left and right. This Indie darling is dominating on our Awards Leaderboard with over 100 wins so far, most recently crushing it at both the Producers Guild and SAG awards. And with the Independent Spirit Awards coming this weekend, as well as the Oscars in just a week after that, now is the time to check this one out. Where to Watch: Vudu, Showtime Hopefully our recommendations hel...

Recommendations: 10 Best Boxing Movies That Aren’t Rocky or Creed
With Creed III hitting theaters and having already completed our ranking of the Rocky franchise, I thought it’d be fun to present a list of boxing movies that don’t feature the Italian Stallion but are just as great. Without further ado, here are the 10 best boxing movies that aren’t from the Rocky and Creed franchise. Southpaw (2015) Jake Gyllenhaal got jacked for this underappreciated boxing gem from director Antoine Fuqua about a man who loses everything but gets one final shot at fame and glory. Production values are solid all around, and the boxing matches are impressive, but this is mainly Jake’s show, and the actor delivers an emotional performance as a man trying his best not to slide into the abyss of despair. It’s understandable. He was married to Rachel McAdams and living the majestic life of an up-and-coming boxer. I’d freak out, too, if McAdams was taken from me. At any rate, while not exactly Rocky levels of inspiration, Southpaw delivers the goods, even if you have to suffer quite a bit to get to the high points. The Fighter (2010) One of my all-time favorite flicks, David O. Russell’s The Fighter tells the true-life tale of Micky Ward and his relationship with his problematic brother Dicky. Boxing serves as the element that brings the Ward boys (and their eccentric family) together. Still, really this 2010 drama is about people fighting to break free from the shackles of life. Micky yearns for greatness but must constantly contend with his mother and brother, Dicky battles heroin addiction. At the same time, Micky’s love interest Charlene has to battle practically everyone to keep her man on the right path. Russell’s cinematic flourishes are abundant, but the performances from the impressive cast — notably Christian Bale, who won an Oscar for his efforts — really shine. The Fighter is one of the best films of the modern age. Million Dollar Baby (2004) Million Dollar Baby isn’t for the faint of heart. Directed with a heavy hand by Clint Eastwood (who won an Oscar for his efforts), this heartbreaking melodrama knocks you out with a trio of incredible performances — Eastwood, Hilary Swank, and Morgan Freeman — and its powerful story about a trailer trash gal who convinces a grizzled old trainer to give her a shot at the big time. Million Dollar Baby traverses some unique territory and conjures up a stunning and shocking third act that’ll leave you speechless. Cinderella Man (2005) Ron Howard’s Cinderella Man is nowhere as good as it thinks it is but still gets by on pure charm and Russell Crowe’s magnetic performance. Earnest to a fault, this period epic tells the tale of James J. Braddock, an Irish-American boxer who breaks his hand, falls into poverty but gets another shot at the title thanks in no small part to his manager Joe Gould (scene stealer Paul Giamatti). Co-starring Renée Zellweger, Cinderella Man has its moments and indeed ends on a moment of inspiration. However, it can feel too much like Oscar fodder rather than a proper examination of its subject. Still well worth a watch, though. Ali (2001) I love Ali . Most biographical epics bite off more than they can chew, resulting in a sprawling, albeit bite-sized, view of their heroes. With Ali , director Michael Mann wisely frames his story during a pivotal stretch in the boxing icon’s life from 1964-74. The film explores Muhammad Ali’s stance against the Vietnam War, his exile from boxing, and his eventual comeback, and paints him as a flawed individual struggling to survive in a complex world. Will Smith is magnificent in the title role, while Jamie Foxx and Jon Voight deliver solid supporting turns. Here is a true story done right. Snatch (2000) Boxing is only a tiny part of Snatch , but that doesn’t prevent director Guy Ritchie from producing rough and gritty fight sce...

Five months after striking, Alabama coal miners haven't given up.
Around 1,100 union coal miners in Brookwood, Alabama, have been on strike over unfair labor practices at Warrior Met Coal for over five months. Workers and their families are holding the line, demanding to get back what was stolen from them with their last contract, demanding to actually have time to spend with their families, demanding to be treated with the respect they deserve for making the mine more productive than ever. The UMWA’s strike motto is “One day longer, one day stronger,” and workers are showing no signs that they plan to back down.

Home Movie News Mission: Impossible 8 Aircraft Carrier Scenes Detailed In New Filming Report According to a new report, Tom Cruise has been busy filming new scenes for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two aboard an aircraft carrier. A new report reveals details regarding a sequence in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two in which Tom Cruise is aboard an aircraft carrier. The long-running Mission: Impossible franchise is set to conclude with a seventh and eighth installment, the first of which hits theaters this summer. Much about the upcoming final entry is being kept under wraps, but director Christopher McQuarrie and Cruise have already teased that the film will feature some incredible action sequences. According to Variety , at least a portion of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two will take place on a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Adriatic Sea. Details regarding the sequence are being kept under wraps, but Cruise is reported to have boarded the vessel via helicopter off the coast of Italy before the ship traveled to "somewhere between Italy and Croatia." Cruise is expected to complete filming in the region this week before then traveling to his next filming destination. The head of Apulia Film Commission calls the Italian part of production a "complex shoot." What To Expect From Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two Although Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is still months away from hitting theaters, some details have emerged about the follow-up. Like its predecessors, the upcoming franchise-capper will seemingly be a globe-trotting affair. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two filming has so far taken place in the UK, Norway, Malta, Italy, and South Africa. Of course, it wouldn't be a Mission: Impossible movie without death-defying stunts. McQuarrie and Cruise have the difficult task of topping the motorcycle base jump in the upcoming film, but some behind-the-scenes material has already teased some of what's to come. The biggest stunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, by a considerable margin, seems to be a biplane action sequence in South Africa, video of which has already been shared. In the footage, Cruise is shown holding onto the top of the small aircraft as it does various aerial maneuvers. The Mission: Impossible franchise is also well-known for featuring some very nefarious and dangerous villains for Ethan to face off against. After Henry Cavill's formidable August Walker in the previous entry and whatever is to come from Esai Morales' villain in the upcoming film, it's unclear who Ethan Hunt will face off against for his final adventure. As the franchise did with Solomon Lane (Sean Harris), however, it's possible that Morales' antagonist will return for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two , especially since the upcoming installment is expected to end on a cliffhanger. Judge: F-Word Does Not Have Enough "Shock Value" To Be a Problem at work
This is an employment tribunal decision in the UK based on specific facts. It should not be considered a general rule that applies to all workplaces. It is possible for an F-bomb to explode with enough force to destroy your hopes of continuing employment. The judge ruled in favor of the plaintiff. Based on 2019 and 2020 events, the claimant alleged that her employer and co-workers had harassed and discriminated against her. The usual dispute arose over whether the problem was the claimant’s job performance or someone else’s inappropriate conduct. However, the facts involving an April 2020 meeting are the most interesting. This is a good thing, as the tribunal heard 13 witnesses and reviewed more than 4,000 pages worth of documents. None of these facts are relevant here. According to the F-bomb, the claimant claimed she was "undermined" and "belittled" at the meeting by one of the managers. Particularly, she mentioned that Shane was sponsoring a project. The manager replied that Shane didn't care. She then cited this as evidence that she had been unfairly treated. Although the manager denied it, and other witnesses claimed they couldn't remember it, the tribunal believed the claimant. However, this did not make any difference. The Claimant was believable and credible. We don't believe she made it up. We believe the words used are quite commonplace and don't have the shock value that they might in other times. We believe it is something that could have been said, but is not being recalled by [other witnesses] due to its lack of importance at the time. Emphasis added. Final decision by the tribunal was that the claimant had been unfairly dismissed. However, it rejected all of her claims. Unfortunately, the tribunal didn't explain why the word was used by the manager or what evidence it had consulted before coming to its conclusion. We have certainly come a long distance since 1644 when Oliver Cromwell used the word at Battle of Marston Moor, which caused the royal army's fleeing to be forced to flee. The word is now much more commonplace, particularly since 1960, according to this Google Ngram chart. This seems to be roughly in line with a rise of profanity all around: But does the word have any shock value? It is not. This would depend greatly on the context. It is also one reason why its use in official legal proceedings can be quite rare and, partly for that reason, quite often hilarious to me. You can see, for example, "Motion To F*# Yourselves' (Apr. 1, 2022; "Supreme Court Allows Cheerleaders to Use Snapchat" (June 23, 20,21); "[Motion] To F--- This Court And Everything It Stands for'" (Apr. 23.2015, "How to Avoid Jury Duty," (June 23, 2021); "[Motion] to F--- This Court and Everything It Stands For'" (April 4, 2013); "How To Avoid Jury Duty", #10: F Bomb After Being Selected"(Nov. 6, 2008); “Deponent and Counsel jointly sanctioned $367 per F-Bomb” (Mar. 6, 2008). This issue was not addressed in any of the cases I found under my employment law category. "Sugar Plum Fairy Fired For Cursing During Drug Test" (Nov. 16, 2011,). However, there are many examples of how what you say at work can lead to trouble (see, for example, "Things Not to Share with Employees #1-5" (June 10, 2015.). Despite this ruling, the F-word retains enough shock value depending on context. You should not use it in any official or semi-official workplace situation. This is probably why I continue to use "F-word" and "F-bomb" here, even though they are expressive and versatile. This is not a semi-official project for work, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
