10 Minute Bedtime Yoga for Tension & Stress Release
🌟 This 10 minute bedtime yoga is the perfect way to start or end your day; it will help you clear your head, calm the body and let go of any tension or stress that you've been carrying. A beginner yoga class that will release tension from the hips, back and shoulders which can be done anywhere even in your own bed.
Taking just a few minutes out of our day to unwind is one of the best ways to allow our mind to relax. When our mind is relaxed so is our body.
To make it extra cosy feel free to use extra pillows and blankets. Turn the lights low, and take the next 10 mins to let go and relax!

Yoga for Scoliosis: Strengthening the Spine Naturally
🌟 Firstly, I want to thank you for choosing to heal yourself naturally. Mild scoliosis can be treated naturally and the curvature if the spine can be reduced; but in order to decrease pain, create proper alignment of the body & minimise further curvature of the spine; there are six major areas to focus on:
- The Spine: To lengthen and strengthen the sacrospinalis muscle group - which are the muscles that support the spine.
- Legs & feet: Strong legs and feet create a foundation from which the spine can stretch & become freer; by making the legs carry the weight instead of the spine and pelvis.
- Psoas: Strengthen and lengthen the psoas muscle bringing flexibility and this is the muscle that connects the upper and lower body.
- Shoulders: Flexibility in the shoulder blades to open up the chest and avoid rounding or slouching of the back.
Core: A strong core is very important to keep the spine strong and in alignment.
- Breath: Upper body movements open the concave side of the lungs which is affected by the curvature allowing more Oxygen to enter the affected side.
If you are completely new to yoga, feel free to check out my other yoga videos as they are suitable for complete beginners and spine-friendly.
In order to decrease the curvature and hence reduce pain, mild exercise (including yoga) must be practiced several times a week.
Please be careful and listen to your body, this class is super slow and gentle, do not rush the movements, instead do them slowly and notice the different sensations you’ll feel in your body.

Malasana in Traditional Hatha Yoga | Benefits of Deep Squatting in Yoga
🌟 Malasana, a traditional Hatha Yoga practice; is a deep squat where the sit bones are pushed towards the ground while grounding the feet and lifting the spine upwards. Many things are active in this deep squat, however, it is primarily a hip opener.
Traditionally, humans have squatted for thousands of years to plant seeds, prepare food, sit, etc; but as they evolved and became modern civilized beings, they started to sit on chairs and use technology to function in the world.
Malasana is a seated pose where the feet are slightly wider than hip-width, the toes pointing in front or slightly outwards, the elbows pushing the inner thighs outwards, the palms in Anjali Mudra to draw the knees apart, and the pushing of the sit bones towards the floor together is done while lengthening the spine upwards.
*Contraindications:*
*Injury and Surgery:* If you’re recovering from shoulders, wrists, elbows, rib cage, lower back, hips, or pelvis injuries, or have undergone any abdominal surgery avoid this pose.
This pose brings a tremendous amount of pressure on knees and ankles, hence if you have a knee or ankle injury avoid this pose.
Any other condition that can bring discomfort or pain should avoid this pose.
For those of you who are on their toes and unable to lower their heels due to lack of flexibility or otherwise, a block under the gluteus or a folded blanket under the heels should always be welcomed.
*Others:* Although this practice is recommended for pregnant women, women in their first and second trimesters should avoid it since it puts a lot of pressure on the abdominal area.
*Seniors:* Should take care when going in and out of Malasana as knees and ankles may be weak.

🌟 What is Yoga Nidra and why can it help with falling asleep?
Yoga Nidra is an ancient meditative technique originating from India. This practice involves a guided narration while the participant rests, inducing a state of profound relaxation. During Yoga Nidra, you are led through a sequence of relaxation and sometimes visualization exercises.
Despite its name, which translates to 'yogic sleep,' the primary aim of Yoga Nidra is not necessarily to induce sleep. Instead, its purpose is to concentrate on the guiding voice and explore deeper realms of consciousness. However, it is worth noting that many people find it conducive to falling asleep quickly due to the deeply relaxed state it induces.
It's important to note that the effectiveness of Yoga Nidra for sleep can vary from person to person. Some people may experience immediate improvements, while others might need consistent practice over time to see significant changes. While others may feel more awake than before the practice.
If this does not help you fall asleep, try rubbing your feet on the bed. Then focus your attention on your feet for several minutes, which for me is a tried and tested method.

Benefits
In the practice of Balasana, the spine should remain relaxed in the forward fold and the focus should be on breathing, watching how the chest and abdomen push towards the thighs. Just being aware of how the body moves brings a sense of calmness in the breath, making the practice very relaxing and de-stressing.
Balasana stretches the shoulders back and ankles subtly, stretching and strengthening the tendons and ligaments of the knees. When held longer in this pose, these areas gain better strength.
Flexibility of the lower limbs, ankles, and feet is enhanced with the alignment, it lengthens the spine and settles the vertebrae in its natural space; relieving lower back muscular and neck stiffness.
Balasana calms the body and mind encouraging better sleep and is a great pose to address anxiety.
This yoga pose is suitable for postnatal women (natural birth) and teens. It is great for sportspersons and yoga practitioners after an intense session.
Contraindications
If you've had any injury or a recent surgery done at the ankles, shoulder, knee joints or hip joints avoid this pose. Postnatal women who have undergone a cesarean section need to avoid this due to abdominal pressure.
If you suffer from acute knee joint pain and rheumatoid arthritis avoid it due to pressure on the joints which could cause further damage.
Pregnant women and seniors with knee joint pains and heart ailments need to avoid balasana.

🌟 Explore the essence of Dirga Pranayama and its profound impact on your physical and mental well-being, as you delve deeper into the art of holistic breathing within the realm of yoga. Dirga Pranayama (Three Part Breath), technically a part of yogic breathing is fundamental to both the physical as well as the mental practice of yoga. Under this section of breathing, both inhalation and exhalation happen in three layers in a smooth unobstructed way. It involves the use of the abdominal muscles, rib cage, and chest while engaging the diaphragm muscles.
This technique of breathing helps us connect to our bodies, slowly progressing with full awareness.
Since one of the main benefits of practicing this kind of breathing is to decrease stress levels, thereby calming the sympathetic nervous system, it is a great way to reduce feelings of anxiety or panic attacks.
If practiced regularly, if allows us to go deeper into the other aspects of breath work at advanced levels that form part of a yoga practice.
