How to Get Started with the WebQuest
#webquest #getstarted #inquirybasedlearning #engagelearners #teamwork #peerlearning #freeonlinecourse
WebQuests are problem-based learning activities that engage learners in the learning process. WebQuests are valuable instructional tools for learners of all ages in both the school and work settings. The WebQuest engages learners in experiential (hands on) learning activities. These activities promote collaborative social skills, higher order critical thinking skills, inquiry problem-based learning, and technological skills. In addition, WebQuests motivate and empower teachers and learners to become lifelong learners.
Week 1: Introduction of the WebQuest topic
Decide on a topic from a book, article, video, film, or any subject area relevant to your class and introduce the topic and investigation to your students. Think of the Introduction is the end in mind. What will the students investigate or discover? What direction will they go? What will be the outcome of the WebQuest?
This is an example of an introduction to a topic based on The Giver by Lois Lowry that I wrote for my WebQuest.
Lois Lowry wrote a novel about a community that seems to function perfectly. She called the book, The Giver. The book describes a perfect society.
What makes this community flawless? How has it managed to keep things organized and under perfect control? It seems that man has finally found the ideal way to live until one member of the community starts to uncover flaws. What went wrong?
You have been assigned by the elders of the community to investigate why Jonas, a promising young man chose to leave the community. What made this gifted individual, chosen to be the next Giver rebel against the norms? What went wrong? What flaws did he reveal about this seemingly perfect community?

Professor Bernie Dodge, the father of Webquests, defines them as "inquiry-oriented activities in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the internet".
The WebQuest is divided into 7 sections. I provided examples from The Perfect Society.
* Introduction
* Task
* Process
* Resources
* Evaluation
* Conclusion
* Teacher Page
Students generally work in teams. Each student has a role, or a specific area to research. WebQuests often assign students to play real-life situations of professional researchers or historical figures.

Sweet Violet
Species in the genus Viola are all low herbaceous plants. You can plant them in flower beds or as ground cover in gardens. They will bloom in summer with small flowers in purple, yellow, and white colors. The sweet viola (Viola odorata) is the best-known species in genus Viola, with bluish violet flowers and a fragrance often used to make perfumes and cosmetics. The so-called "violet fragrance" is actually the fragrance of it. Information from Picture This : https://apps.apple.com/il/app/picturethis-plant-identifier/id1252497129
