We've Hatched a Plan - Free Range Sailing Ep 151
In Tasmania, spring is the gale season which brings lots of wind and rain. So in order to rebuild our dodger we needed to fast track our companionway hatch renovation. A lot of the timber work on Mirrool wasn't very well preserved and there was a lot of dry rot that made restoration impossible so we opted for a complete rebuild.

Growing greens at sea, a short video on sprouting.
In this short video I demonstrate a simple way to grow sprouts in your home kitchen or galley, as well as, some common traps and troubleshooting to be aware of when you start.
For more information you can also visit an accompanying article to this video on our website:

Here is a useful table I found for soaking times for legumes and seeds that are suitable for sprouting:

Here is the link to an exceptionally useful book written by Australian, Isabell Shipard, with EVERYTHING you need to know about sprouting:

(I am not affiliated with Isabell in any way I just think her book is the best and most comprehensive book about sprouts on the market)

Run for Cover! - Free Range Sailing Ep 134
We say goodbye to Hobart and sail out to Port Davey on the West Coast of Tasmania. Coming out of the Derwent River we encounter some pretty strong winds making us alter course. We also visit the town of Dover where we try the World's first spirit infused with Sassafras!

Something Completely Different - Free Range Sailing Ep 133
A sail into Hobart finds us exploring the city before the imminent (but yet unknown) lock down. You'll get a taste of the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) one of the most bizarre places we've ever been to. We also chat about our provisions and their cost for our upcoming trip to the West Coast of Tasmania.

Is this Heaven or Hell? - Free Range Sailing Ep 132
Departing Fortescue Bay we shoot through the spectacular Hole in the Wall en route to Port Arthur. Along the way we get a fish on the line and get close enough to taste the spray of waves crashing into the cliffs. Join us for a tour of Port Arthur Historic Site where we give you a bit of background on its sombre convict history.

Welcome to our Castle - Free Range Sailing Ep 131
This week we explore Fortescue Bay on the Tasman Peninsula where we harvest some gigantic feral shellfish and smoke some of the local bait fish. We also dive on the wreck of the William Pitt in Canoe Bay and take a walk through the Tasmanian "rain forest". Featuring excerpts from our favourite Australian film, The Castle (1997).

Bit by a WOMBAT! - Free Range Sailing Ep 129
This is Maria Island. A wildlife paradise aptly named "Tasmania's Noah's Ark". Steeped in history with spectacular walking trails and 300 million year old fossil beds we take you with us on an exploration of this stunning island. If you didn't admire our chunky wombats before this, we are sure you are going to after watching, they are just so endearing (even if they do bite from time to time!).
