We bought a DAIRY COW! | A Free Range farm life update for November- Free Range Homestead Ep.58
There's always so much going on around our property, that we don't always get to cover it all. This is the start of regular monthly updates so we don't leave any loose ends from subjects we cover, that are over a longer term than be covered in one show.

Why we stopped sailing | A trip down memory lane
Not surprisingly, a common question we get is "Why did you guys stop sailing?" After all, we had a successful sailing channel and a nicely refitted little boat, so we completely understand when people think we may be a little crazy.
Well, in this episode, we try to provide a few insights into our decision to go ashore and at the same time, re-live a few memories. We talk past, present and have a glimpse at the future.
Once more, we want to thank all of the people who have been along on this journey for the long haul, as well as those just joining us and sending us their thoughts, best wishes and providing a means for us to continue documenting our life lessons.
With respect,
Troy, Pascale and Constance.

Building our Rabbit Colony | From cage to kindness. Free Range Homestead ep. 55
This week we find a bit of time on our busy little farm to build a mesh enclosure to get our rabbits out of solitary and into a fluffle. We try to use found or recycled material in all of our projects and this enclosure is no different. Troy talks wire knots, strainer posts and the benefit of kindness to animals.

How to get pigs to grow their own pasture | Permaculture in action. Free Range Homestead Ep. 53
Using pigs on rotation, managed with lightweight portable electric fence, has been the cornerstone of turning our abandoned block from a worn out fire hazard, to a rich rolling pasture. We are amazed at the transformation those pigs have worked on the property in just 12 busy months, and we'd like to share our experiences and lessons learned with you.

Goodbye Grass, Hello Food! | Building our favourite Spring garden - Free Range Homestead Ep. 53
Our favourite way to welcome Spring on the Ramshackle Ranch, is to build a new productive garden where there was once just a bunch of weeds, surrounded by the songs of birds. That sounds pretty good on its own, but this time, we experiment with some free materials and clean up our bush a little.

From Pig to Pork | How we dealt with our biggest harvest yet - Free Range Homestead Ep 51
Raising a bunch of pigs is one of the best things we've done on the farm. They clear degraded land, are easy to care for and like tummy scratches. That means it can be a difficult day when it comes time to harvest them for food and we have a look at the process here;
ensuring we get the most from the animals in our care.

How to remove hair from a Pig - Easier and cleaner than skinning | A Free Range How-To #1
In this episode we show our favourite way to remove the hair from a pig that requires minimal equipment or people to help.
Some people skin their harvested pig in the mistaken belief that de-hairing is more difficult, but this introduces two major drawbacks. First, you are wasting a fantastic product if you discard the skin but worse still, a skinned pig carcass is incredibly slippery and hard to handle. Finally, leaving the skin intact provides a great barrier to food spoiling bacteria and meat dehydration.
Thanks for checking out the channel and your feedback is always welcome in the comments section.

In Joel Salatin's Footsteps: How this Couple are Regenerative Farming in Australia.
In the alternative farming scene, it's unlikely for anyone to have not heard of Joel Salatin or have been influenced by his larger than life personality. Here in our cozy corner of South-Western Australia, we were fortunate enough to meet another two farmers who are carving out a place for themselves in the world of regenerative agriculture, incorporating his lessons from the other side of the world while running their pastured poultry operation.
Jeff and Michelle of Southampton Homestead are passionate about restoring health to the land, opportunity to the people of their community and a meaningful life for the animals in their care. It is our great fortune to count them as our friends and it is with no small pleasure that we present their story to you.
As well as the works and advice of Joel Salatin and his family, Jeff would like to acknowledge James L Chestnut in shaping his philosophy around farming and wellness as discussed in the interview.

FREE PROVISIONING GUIDE
Pascale has put together a FREE 40 page Provisioning Guide. The Guide explains and provides examples of how we can travel eating a variety of healthy and delicious meals for up to 6 months at a time on our tiny boat with no resupply. There has never been a better time to start learning how to increase the food storage potential of your home. I hope this guide will inspire you to make more informed long term provisioning choices for the future! For more information visit the Provisioning Page on our website ( www.freerangesailing.com/boat-provisioning ) or to grab a copy directly by clicking on the link below.
