The viaduct in Matraman, designed to grade-separate train tracks from the road below, has been in use ever since it's construction. Things changed only a few years ago when the tracks were de-activated and removed to allow for the construction of the higher train viaduct you see directly behind it. Together with the construction of Manggarai Station and a number of other buildings, the area of Meester Cornelis was developed from a swampy farming area into a suburb of Batavia. Controlling the water upstream became important as the low-lying areas of Batavia kept flooding. Bird strikes are very common actually, but will make you probably sh*t your pants when it actually happens on a plane you're in, let alone a few meters from your seat! When the crew tells you everything is fine and your plane will depart in a few minutes after everything clearly is NOT fine, what would you do? These passengers on board a Batik Air flight in Indonesia decided they didn't want to be on this plane anymore, but it took them half an hour of mutiny to get off the plane. They were eventually picked up by a replacement plane about two hours later. The city of Mariupol in Ukraine was the location of one of the main battles at the start of the bloody invasion and war by Russia. Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers were hunkered down in the catacombs of the city, that was razed to the ground by the occupying forces. This one didn't last long, but quite a number of people were able to pick up this error fare before it was pulled from the website. In between watching the volcano in this extremely quiet area, there are birds to be spotted and monkeys wandering around, looking for anything to eat. These macaques live on higher slopes of mountains, but do go down when the volcano is erupting as they won’t be able to find food easily up there during those times. In the full video out this Sunday, so you too can relax my listening to some wildlife but also watch the Mount Merapi volcano slowly doing its routine of producing little eruptions and pyroclastic clouds. It's already time to head back home after my stay here in Taipei has come to an end. The Dutch colonial train station of Tanjung Priok, or Tandjoeng Priok back then, can still be admired in all it's Art Deco style. Over recent years I have visited quite a number of superhigh buildings and in today's video I'm going to add another one. Taipei 101 was the highest building in the world between 2004 and 2009. The Dutch colonial train station of Batavia, or Batavia Zuid (Batavia South) as it was also known, is the second station building in this location, built between 1926 and 1926.
