Elebits (Wii) Gameplay Sample
Elibits is one part first person shooter, one part lightgun shooter, and one part Katamari Damacy.
Players have movement and aiming control like a first person shooter, zapping the mass of Elibits that flood the areas is reminiscent of a light gun game, and the more Elibits you zap, the more powerful your zapper becomes, allowing you to move larger objects in the environment, and power certain electronic devices which releases more Elebits, allowing your zapper to be powered up more, rinse and repeat. It has the same addictive Growth formula that made Katamari so addictive.
I've still yet to beat the game, but if you are doing any Wii collection, look into Elebits, it's addictive and fun gameplay is worth experiencing.

We Love Katamari (PS2) Gameplay Sample
I just got this game in the mail today. After playing through Katamari Damacy REROLL on my computer, I've decided to go back and pick up both PS2 games to play and enjoy.
If you're not familiar with the Katamari games, they are breath-of-fresh-air kinds of games with a zany concept, and addictive gameplay that show what gaming can truly be with enough imagination. Even for their day, Katamari was a little too niche for the mainstream, yet they still became popular because they were super fun and addictive. These are the kinds of strange games that just come out of nowhere that I love to see, from an era where developers were still willing to take risks with game design. Even in the days of the PS2, Katamari was a risky game to make, as there were still plenty of mainstream popular trends in those days, as there have always been.
I'm glad to see Namco took a chance here, and if you want to try a Katamari game, but don't have a PS2, PS3, or Xbox 360, look into Katamari Damacy REROLL on all current-gen consoles. The game is short, but it's impossible not to be happy when playing Katamari. Definitely worth the purchase.

God of War: Chains of Olympus (PS3) Gameplay Sample
When I first purchased The God of War Origins Collection on the PS3, the kid at Gamestop accidentally put the God of War 1&2 collection in the case, and I didn't catch it till I finally got around to playing it, months later. It was too late to exchange it.
I just got this in the mail today, and this is my first time playing the PSP GoW games. I've still yet to pick up a PSP, and never got to enjoy them on that system. That's why I am glad that Sony later brought them to the PS3. I'm pretty sure I now own a complete God of War collection on the PS3, Ascention, and both collections, and GoW 3. Granted, I could have just picked up the Saga collection, but I already owned a few of them.
This is my second run through this level, my first run muted the sound for some reason, and I must say that if you like classic GoW, this is a fantastic collection to pick up. Now that I own the entire collection of pre-Gow (2018) games, I can say they are great games, but the series definitely needed a change after 6 similar games.
I was a reluctant later-comer fan of Gow, but I have grown to really enjoy the series, even if I still hate QTE's in action games. I've learned to accept them in GoW, but still hate them in almost every other game outside of Shenmue. I think it's time for devs to innovate and just move on from QTE's in any action games.

NBA Showtime (PS1) Gameplay Sample
I haven't really played this one that much, but I was an avid NBA Jam fan. I can say that I am not great at this game as the A.I. was set on the easiest difficulty, and I barely squeaked by with a win here.
Same fun and addicvtive formula as NBA Jam, but at the time of it's release, a lot of gamers and game journalists were a little NBA Jam'd out. It's More fun to go back and play now than if you were a little over-saturated in the series at the time.
I hate sports games, but I love NBA Jam. This formula is never, not fun.

Xena Warrior Princess (PS1) Gameplay Sample
I remember playing this off a demo disk and really liking the mechanic where Xena threw the Chakram. This is the furthest I have played into the actual game, having it for a couple years, but never quite getting around to it, and, well, I like this game.
It has control and camera issues that are consistent with the era of gaming it was developed, but get past a few wonky aspects, and you find a pretty fun 3D action-adventure game, and a solid licensed title. I like this game.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (PS3) Gameplay Sample
This footage come courtasey of the PS3 version of The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena which came with a full, upgraded version of Butcher Bay on the same disk for free.
While I have yet to play very far into Dark Athena, Butcher Bay is one of my favorite games on the Original Xbox. It's, arguably, the best looking game on the system, but beyond that it's unique Deus EX/SplinterCell design sets it apart. It's a really good game, and if you have never played it, you should, either via the original Xbox and PC (2004), or off Dark Athena (PS3, 360, PC).

Dead Island (PS3) Gameplay Sample
I still haven't quite figured out the hit box in this game, I'm not sure if it's just me, or if the hit detection is a bit wonky. As you can see, the boss ticked me off.
Dead Island is an interesting mixture of Dead Rising, and maybe something like Bioshock. It has a lot of extra loot to collect, loot that you can use to create or upgrade weapons. There is definitely an addictive elemnt to exploring and looting everything you can find.
This game got a decent amount of attention in it's day. I can't speak for the 360 or PC version, but the PS3 version doesn't seem to run it the best. Screen tearing issues, and developer designed shakiness to the game might make this footage a little nauseating to watch. This is definitely a game that is a lot better to play than to watch.
I've had this game for years, and have only just now played about an hour or more into it, and it's not bad, but certainly not the best zombie game, nor Bioshock inspired FPS game of the 7th gen. If I had to give it a number rating, I'd say a 7 would fit this game from what I have played. Maybe up that a little higher once I get to weapon creation.
I can't rate a whole game off just an hour of play, but so far I can tell this game isn't bad, and is engaging enough to keep you interested. Hit detection, and graphical issues aside, I could see myself playing all the way through this game if I had the time to play a lot of games anymore. If you overlooked this one, give it a try, you probably won't regret spending time with it.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (PS3) Gameplay Sample
Kyne and Lynch is a so-so third person shooter that was a pretty average example of a duck and cover shooter from the 7th generation. It's not terrible by any means, but games like Army of Two are so much better in the coop aspect (I never played the online mode which had it's fans), and there are better playing similar games all over the 7th gen.
This game was controversial for all the wrong reasons, most notably, the firing of Jeff Gerstmann from Gamespot for giving this game a low review score when Eidos had been paying big money for banner adds at Gamespot to promote the game. He was fired, and they used some vague reson like they didn't like the tone of the review so they fired him (ie they lost money). In the end, game websites are a business, and when advertisers pay big money to that website, journalistic integrity be d*mned.

Eureka Seven Vol. 1: The New Wave (PS2) Gameplay
Namco Bandai released two of these games on the PS2, and from just playing this one, I'm sort of interested in picking up Vol 2. I playtested this game years ago, but put it on the shelf, distracted by other games, and in just playing this gameplay sample footage, I'm kind of hooked.
I had to look it up to see, but this is based off an anime series of the same name, but even before I looked it up, I was getting that vibe. With the mixture of gameplay, and storytelling, it almost feels like you are playing an interactive Anime show. I played over an hour into this game just trying to get a gameplay sample, and I like what I have played of it so far.
The mech combat isn't them most engaging I've ever played, but it still controlled and played solidly enough. I have no complaints about it, it's actually fun to battle in this game, even if I like other mech combat games a little better, but you can buy new items, and learn new abilities as you play.
I don't know how long the game is overall, but from what I have played, I enjoyed my time with it. I liked it enough, I'm putting Eureka Seven Vol. 2: The New Vision. If you are a fan of mech combat games like Steambot Chronicles, Armored Core, Virtual On, and etc, look into Eureka Seven Vol. 1: The New Wave.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game today.

Airblade (PS2) Gameplay Sample
Alright, so I rage quit in the third level. Not so much rage quit, but more of a I'm over it quit. I have beaten that level before, but the difficulty in this game amps up very quickly in the third level.
Airblade is sequel to Trickstyle on the Dreamcast, but instead of racing being the focus, tricks are more of a focus. This is more Marty McFly's Pro Hoverboarder than true Trickstyle sequel.
I do really like this game, and I remember liking it from an old demo disk, but this game isn't for everyone because it has one flaw you will either like or despise. You know how in THPS, if you complete a level objective, the game marks that objective off the list, and you don't have to complete it again on your next run? Well, in Airblade, you have to complete every single objective in each level in the time allotted or you fail the mission, and have to start over. This means that you almost have to put in a perfect run in each level, completing every objective in time. You'll be playing the harder levels over, and over, and over again until you figure out how to do each objective, and how to do it in time.
When you are time stressed, some of the control issues rear their head to add to the frustration. Sometimes the controls can be a bit awkward, bouncy, and can feel a little glitchy forcing you to battle the controls and lose precious times. It doesn't always happen, but it always seems to happen when you are flustered. Overall, the controls aren't terrible by any means, but the extra bouncy phyisics and other quirks do take some getting used to.
The graphics are good for time in PS2 development it was released in, but this comes from Criterion, the makers of the Renderware engine which powered almost an entire generation of PS2 games. They certainly aren't burnout quality, but Criterion knew their stuff when it came to PS2 development.
The Bottom Line: Despite the sometimes rough difficulty level in the game, and it's unforgiving nature when it comes to completing objectives, I still really like Airblade. It's definitely not for everyone, but give it a try sometime, you might enjoy it, or you might hate it. It's just one of those games you either like or you don't.
NOTE: Airblade supports 16:9 output on the PS2 which is why this video is in widescreen.
War of the Monsters Demo Disk Gameplay Sample (PS2)
I've been meaning to pick this game up since I first played this demo 20 years ago, and I have still yet to get my hands on a copy. This is one of the many stragglers in my PS2 collection.
I can't speak on the final game, but I love this demo, it's super fun to play, and destroy big buildings while fighting another giant foe. I don't know if the final game kept these controls, but if they did, some people might be put off by the tank controls. Yep, even as late as 2002, tank-controls were still a thing in gaming, post-dual analog. That aside, everything else about this game is fun, at least in the demo. One day I'll pick up the final game, if I find it cheap enough.
This is from the demo of Issue 64 of The Official US PLaystation Magazine, the demo with Shinobi on the cover.

Heatseeker (PS2) Gameplay Sample
I've had this game for almost a decade, but have only just today pulled it out to play it for the first time, and I'm impressed. Heatseeker is a fun air-combat game. While the PS2 has no shortage of Ace Combat games, Heatseeker is still an engaging and fun from what I have played of it. I haven't played far enough into it to know if later levels get really challenging, but from the first two missions I have played, I had a really good time.
If you are a fan of Air Combat/Ace Combat, and want another solid mission-based jet fighting game, look into Heatseeker. It's renderware engine graphics may not be the best on the system, but the solid controls, and intense action keep this game engaging, and fun. Simple, and fun game, solid controls, and decent (for PS2) graphics, and the game supports 16:9 display. If I didn't have to get ready for work soon, I'd probably keep playing further into the game. A fun, hidden game.
Note: This game was also on the Nintendo Wii.

Max Payne 2 (Xbox) Gameplay Sample
I die at the end. Lol. I am playing this on an Xbox 360, so some of the jankiness of this footage might be from the emulation, because I don't remember it being quite as janky when using the original hardware, even though it has been over a decade since I last played this game.
Honestly, I'm a fan of the first two Max Payne games. I've still yet to play the third game. The original two were innovative thanks to their use of bullet time during the gunfights. The devs of the original even created the bullet time effect before The Matrix hit.
I would say that for most gamers, this game hasn't aged particularly well. Modern gamers might enjoy the narrative part, but find the gunplay and gameplay a little wanting. I still enjoy the gameplay in this game, which is a pretty straightforward and basic third person shooter if you take away the bullet-time effects. I've always found the gameplay enjoyable, outside of those dumb blood trail scenes in the original, and the jumping scenes in this level.
I really love the dingy, dirty, gritty atmosphere in this game, and Max Payne 2 was a major graphical improvement over the original, revamping the character models, and the environments look great in the Xbox version. I've never heard anything good about the PS2 version of the game, and don't own it, but maybe I should pick it up just to see if it is as bad as they say.
Overall, I would still say this is a good game, but will appeal more to those with nostalgia for it than people who are new to it. It's pretty linear, and the gameplay tends to be a bit repetitive, but it's still worth a look. I don't consider Max Payne 1 and 2 to be classics, but I still thoroughly enjoyed my time with them, and have a nostalgic place in my heart for them. I don't know if bullet time is still a thing in modern gaming, but it was definitely a trend in gaming for a while, and Max Payne started that trend. Good game, but not everyone will see it's value all these years later.
Note: I muted the music for this footage, so my apologies for those wanting to hear that classic Max Payne Theme.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) Gameplay
The Wii version is cheap, so I couldn't help myself, I recently picked it up. Just got it in the mail yesterday, and am already 5 hours into it, even though I meant to play Skyward Sword first. I've owned the Gamecube version since Christmas 2006, but have only played through it once. I remember it being one of the longest Zelda games I had ever played up to that point.
For 3D Zelda games, I would say that Wind Waker is still my favorite, but Twilight Princess is close. Link to the past will always be my favorite period 2D or 3D era.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (Wii) Gameplay Sample
OK, so I have yet to figure out the timing for the starting line boost, but outside of playing through the first cup when I picked this game up for $4 at a thrift store a few years back, this is the first time I have played decently far into this game, and it's a really fun Kart Racer. The boost system, while not as deep at Crast Team Racing's, is still deep enough to make powerslide-boosting an integral part of the gameplay. The controls are smoth with the Classic Controller Pro, and for Wii standards, this game has some good graphics, and smooth gameplay. If this was the "Mario Kart you had at home." you did well.
This game is extra fun if you are a longtime Sega fan, but it's not required. Sumo Digital did an awesome Job on this game, and it was also developed for the PS360 as well, with the 360 having Banjo Kazooie as a playable character.

Goldeneye 007 (Wii) Gameplay Sample
Note: I am testing the EVGA XR1 Lite for quality in this video. I'm not replacing my HD60s, but decided to try the $60-$70 capture card out.
Goldeneye on the Wii is a solid FPS game that would have been a good buy for so-called "Core gamers" on the Wii. While it's certainly not as good as the N64 Goldeneye, using the name for sales, it's a solid FPS game, and it had a fun online component as well. I am not sure if the game is still online, but it was just a couple of years ago when I tested it last.
The game is a retelling of Goldeneye, but takes it's own liberties with the story, and substitutes Daniel Craig in for Pierce Brosnan . It's more of an alternate GE than a remake.
The gunplay is solid, but not nearly as arcadey-fun as the original. This game did eventually get an up-port to the PS360 consoles as well.
NOTE: I purposely turned the music off for this footage.

No More Heroes 2 (Wii) Gameplay Sample
Note: I am testing out the EVGA XR1 Lite capture card for this footage. I normally use my Elgato HD60s, but am seeing if the EVGA card is worth it at it's budget price.
To my shame, despite owning a Wii for over 10 years now, I have still yet to play many of the games I own for it. I have the original No More Heroes as well (I can't play it until I find the nun-chuck which is packed away somewhere), and I can tell you this is one of those "hardcore" games people talked about so heavily in the 7th gen. Hardcore and casual were thrown around so often in that gen, they still have no meaning anymore.
I haven't played too far into this game, but I can tell you, this game is fun. Beyond all the flash and gore, and crude humor, you find a well-playing action game in similar vein to games like Devil May Cry, that action style genre. If you are collecting for the Wii, and for the love of Pete, I suggest you do it soon while games are still affordable, because the window will soon close on it, be sure to pick up No More Heroes, and No More Heroes 2. Beyond the stylistic approach, breaking the 4th wall, and even a fun little shmup mini game, it's a solid game, and worthy of your time. both NMH games were also released on the Switch as well.

Sonic Adventure DX (GC) Gameplay Sample
It seems like everyone trashes Sonic Adventure nowadays, but I still love this game. Does it have flaws? Yes, do I kind of despise Big the Cat's adventure portion, just a little, but overall, I love this game. This was the quint essential DC launch game that just blew everything out of the water. Beautiful graphics, super fast speed, and finally, the return of Sonic after missing the Saturn Era.
I haven't played very far into the Gamecube version shown here, but it's still just as fun and engaging as ever. I'm not sure what the major differences are between the versions, but this is a good port from what I have played so far.

Fantavision (PS2) Gameplay Sample
Fantavision was a budget launch title that is pretty much a glorified tech demo to show off the PS2's much-heralded particle effects. That aside, it's a pretty fun and addictive puzzle game in it's own right. I am not great at this game by any means, hence why I couldn't pass the third level in this gameplay.
At first I was going slow and picking my targets carefully, but I couldn't beat the second level. I then decided just to mash the X button, and see what success I could have with a mixture of mashing, and choosing, and that worked for this footage. There is a lot more strategy and technique to this game than meets the eye though.
Overall, I like this game, and I always have. Fun game, short game, and the North American version added a two-player mode that wasn't in the Japanese original.

Katamari Damacy REROLL Gameplay Sample
For someone who owns 400 PS2 games, there are still two important ones that I have yet to pick up (a few more than 2 actually), despite owning Beautiful Katamari on the Xbox 360, I have still yet to pick up the first two Katamari games on the PS2. I've wanted both for years, I just never got around to picking them up, only playing one of them via a demo disk.
So I was browsing Steam after picking up a Steam card one day, Bought me some Duke 3d, Bought me some Doom Eternal, and when browsing for something different, *Boom* I found, and then bought me some Katamari Damacy Reroll.
When I booted it up, for no good reason, the game was windowed, and it would not recognize my USB PS3 controller. I would later pick up a third party Xbox One controller for $22 on clearance at my local walmart, and it turns out that after you beat the training section, you can go into the options screen and make the game full screen instead of windowed.
I know there was is a fanboy flame war about offset analog sticks vs parallel analog sticks, but I'll just leave it at the Xbox One controller (as was the 360's controller for Beautiful Katamari) is woefully inadequate when it comes to doing the dash maneuver. It's a lot harder to pull off with offset analog sticks than it is with parallel ones. As you can see in this footage, there are many times I try and fail at getting the dash manuver to work.
All that aside, this Katamari Damacy remake is availble on the PS4, One, Switch, and Steam. I know they made some tweaks and changes from the original, controls, and levels times, but overall, if you are like me, and missed the opportunity to pick this game up on the PS2, REROLL is a great way to experience this unique, one-of-a-kind game, or to experience it again if you owned it or played it in the past.
NOTE: I am not responsible for "Katamari on the Rocks" getting stuck in your head for the rest of your life. This song enters your soul, and never leaves you. You will find yourself singing it at random for the rest of your earthly existence.

Biker Mice from Mars (PS2) Gameplay Sample
I only vaguely remembered this cartoon ever existed. I remember seeing it advertised when I was a kid, but never saw a single episode that I can remember. I'm guessing that none of my local TV stations ever carried it. This was back when, if you grew up without cable TV like I did, you were stuck with ABC, NBC, and PBS. We didn't even pick FOX up till I was in Jr high.
Biker Mice from Mars is based off the cartoon which is one of the many TMNT style cartoons of this era. As a game, it's not a good game, but it's also not a bad game either. There's nothing terribly broken about the gameplay and design, everything works fine, it's just kind of there. If you find this in the $1-$3 bin, you'll get your moneys worth out of it. It's not terrible, but not spectacular in any way either. It's not a good game, but it's also not a bad game either, it's just a middle of the road kind of experience. If you are a fan of the cartoon, and find it cheap, you won't hate it.

Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death (PS2) Gameplay Sample
This is another case of a game that got terrible review scores despite actually being a pretty good FPS game in it's own right. I haven't played very far into it, and while it has it's share of flaws and imperfections, Dredd vs Death plays way better than the reviews would have you believe.
Alongside the single-player story mode, there is also an arcade mode similar to the challenge modes in Timesplitters, and also multiplayer, and bunch of unlocakables. What I have played of the single player is a solid experience as well. It's not just a corridor crawl where you go from point A to point B shooting everything, yes, that is a part of the game, but there are sections where you interact with the general public, and well, arrest them for anything, breaking up the action.
The game isn't perfect, but the gunplay feels solid, the frammerate in the PS2 version takes some hits, but not to an unplayable level, and the melee can be hit or miss literally.
This game was released on the PS2, GC, Xbox, and PC, and I like what I have played of it so far. If you are a forgiving gamer that can handle a game with some flaws, but also with a myriad of unlockable extras, and some fun challenge modes, look into Dredd vs Death on whatever platform you can find it on.

Bujingai: The Forsaken City (PS2) Gameplay Sample
This is the furthest I have played into this game. I always meant to get around to playing it, just never had the time. Honestly, so far, I really like this game. The swordplay and controls are good, and the lock-on and dodging system mirror Zelda's. The swordplay and gameplay feel smooth, and I realized during this footage, that you can just pretty much climb every wall to the top of the level...just because.
The art direction in this first level of play really reminds me of Shinobi's art direction, that greyed-out cityscape motif, but for a 2003 game, the textures look crisp, which for PS2 was rare early on.
Honestly, from the little I have played, I don't have any complaints. Solid game so far. Smooth, and easy to learn controls, decent graphics, good music, and fun gameplay. You can even use those orbs you collect to purchase stat upgrades. I'm still early in this game, but from the few levels I have played of it so far, I like this game. Look into it for that action DMC-style game. It may not be on the hig-production-value tier of DMC or GoW, but it's worth looking into if you liked games like Rygar, Shinobi, Nanobreaker, Onimusha, Genji, Gungrave and etc.
This game was developed in collaboration with Taito, and Red Entertainment (who developed GunGrave as well)

Deception IV Blood Ties (PS3) Gameplay Sample
This is my first time playing this game, but I do own the original Deception on the PS1. Tecmo's deception series has been a very long running series, and puts the player in the role of the villain, protecting your castle from invading heroes.
The original that I own on the PS1 had a bit of a King's Field feel to it, first person camera, but the series has shifted to a third person game. As you can see this game is a mixture of a puzzle game, and RPG elements. Instead of battling your enemies with attacks, you are forced to lay down traps to catch them in. There are stage traps as well, and you can combo together multiple traps to do massive damage. So far, the game is really engrossing, even if I wish I could just attack the enemies back. I'm not sure if that's something you get to do later on in the game. As the game goes on, you earn new traps, and more trap slots, and the enemies get tougher.
I picked this game up a few years ago during the Gamestop fire sales on PSWii60 games, and I am glad I did. I've always liked the Deception series, and it's worth a look if you like unique games with strategic elements.

Doom 3 BFG (PS3) Gameplay Sample
I'm not sure how I feel about BFG edition. I love the original Doom 3, and I love the Flashlight mechanic in that game. Was it a gimmick to show off the lighting capabilities of id Tech 4, yes, but they made it a working gameplay mechanic that added to the experience. They did improve the weapon sounds, but again, I'm kind of eh when it comes to taking the flashlight mechanic out of the game, especially when I had lots of fun just thumping the lower enemies with it. The game is also brighter, so you almost don't even need to use the flashlight.
I guess BFG is good, but I'll take the original any day of the week over BFG. I know it has a lot of other cool extras as well, so it's still worth playing, even if the flow of the game seems off now that you don't have to choose between light, or weapon. I know there was a lot of complaining over the years over the flashlight mechanic in the game, but I wasn't one of them. I guess it makes it more action focused, but if I wanted a more action-focues Doom 3, I'd just play Quake 4. This is still a good game, but not as good as the original in my opinion. It just plays better how it was designed in the first place.
Other than that, id tech 4 is the most beautiful engine ever. I'm joking, but still, if you were one of those who either bought a PC (like I did), or upgraded you rig just to run and see this engine in action back in the day, this game an engine are legendary, and a part of the last great era in PC gaming. Half-Life 2, Doom 3, F.E.A.R., Farcry, Crysis, etc. This was the last era in my mind where PC gaming was differentiated from all others. Now, whether it be PC or consoles, all platforms are just digital download boxes, and none of them have their own distinct feel or flavor to them outside of Nintendo's systems. The way things are, PC, Playstation, and Xbox are just kind of melding into the same thing, so buy whichever one of those you want to get all the same mainstream games, and buy a Switch to get an actual unique console experience. At least that's my take on the modern market.
