Archon Type B 9mm Pistol, yes or no?
Since the Archon Type B pistol was introduced, we've been intrigued with it's unique design and look. We recently had the opportunity to get our hand on this pistol and take it to the range.
The pistol boasts a 25% lower bore axis compared to the Glock. Combine that with the Arsenal Firearms "Speed Lock" design and you have a very flat shooting pistol with soft felt recoil.
With fiber optic sight, a good trigger and great ergonomics, it's ready to perform right out of the box.
Our ranges session included 350+ rounds and a variety of ammunition. The Archcon Type B ate whatever we fed it. And we had no problem ringing a 12" steel plate at 45 yards. For those looking for a semi-custom pistol, the Archon Type be from Arseal Firearms, might be just the ticket!

Glock 48, is it really that good?
I've always been impressed by Glock handguns. They're simple, reliable and accurate. The G48 single stack is no exception. In this short video I share my perspective on why I'm so impressed with this pistol.
Frankly, after only 100 rounds, it will likely be at the top of my carry rotation once I put another 400 rounds through it.
The single stack pistol has a 11 round capacity although there are aftermarket mags (by Shield Arms) that hold 15 rounds.
We will follow up with additional video as we complete the break in period. Stay tuned!

Beretta 1301 Tactical vs Mossberg 930 SPX
Since acquiring the Beretta 1301 Tactical 12 Gauge, several people have asked that I compare that with the Mossberg 930 SPX.
Both guns have been a joy to shoot and every person who tries them really enjoys the consistency, accuracy and performance of these two shotguns.
I've been shooting the Mossberg for a good five years. It's had thousands of rounds through it, and the 930 SPX has been through several tactical shotgun classes. I like it! However, the Beretta 1301 T has become my favorite semi-automatic shotgun.

AK-V 9 Range Review
We took the AK-V from Palmetto State Armory to the range. In the session we shot approximately 400 rounds.
This may be perhaps the most enjoyable braced pistol I've shot. The bolt release feature, the bold locking back on the last shot, and the magazine release were wonderful. The gun great design my PSA!
We had two failures to full eject the case (it sort of stove piped at the ejection port). Also had three instances of unintended bump fire. Some people have commented that the issue is cause by lack of an aggressive grip or failure to get a tight connection with the brace. The fact is I was very aggressive with the grip on the pistol but it did have unintentional bump fire events. So, that's my only knock on the product.
Enjoy!

The 6 things new gun owners must know
We're seeing a massive increase in people purchasing firearms. In speaking with many new gun owners, I've been asked what are the key things that new gun owners should know and understand. All responsible gun owners need to understand far more than just how their gun operates.
In this video we cover six topics, especially as it relates to personal protection.
Firearms safety
The Manual of arms
Safe storage
Knowledge of the law
Training
Having a plan
The topics covered are done so at a very high level. My goal is to encourage new gun owners to learn there is more to personal protection than the tool you're using.
Stay safe.

Revolvers for home protection...are you crazy?
We discuss the viability of revolvers for home protection in this video.
People ask me all the time which semi-auto pistol should the get. When I ask some clarifying questions about the intended use of the handgun there are all sorts of answers.
For many reliability, simplicity of use and moderate recoil tops their list of attributes. As the conversation continues I ask if they've ever considered a revolver. One new shooter said "you must be crazy". He felt, based on reading so called experts on the web, that he had to go with a semi-auto. As the conversation progressed he defined the role for the handgun was home protection and he wanted his wife and older daughters to learn to use the handgun. The gun wouldn't be a carry piece but needed to be easy to use, reliable and not have too much felt recoil.
We discussed pros and cons of revolvers and semi-auto pistols. Some time later we took his wife and daughter to the range and had them shoot several handguns. His wife and daughter liked the operation and simplicity of the S&W 686 better than anything else. They didn't like the .357 rounds but felt great about different .38 special +p loads. At the end of the session the family felt best about the revolver.
With practice and training, I'm confident this family was better served by the revolver that a semi-auto.

This nifty backpack serves a very practical need. From hauling your gear to and from the shooting range to an all around travel pack, this backpack from 3V Gear works!
With more organization options than most people will know what to do with, a padded laptop sleeve, and a CCW pocket, this backpack really can be used for just about anything. The large main pocket has a clam shell design and lays flat. This is ideal for packing out the bag and great for a weekend trip. Hydration compatible, the Transit will easily accommodate a 3-liter hydration reservoir.

What's the best way to carry extra shotshells?
I've been asked many times, for the best way to carry extra shotshells on a shotgun. Granted there are a few options. Everything from a shell bag, shells in your pockets, and fixed shell carriers (to name a few). Those options work. However, for me there is a simple and highly effective way to keep additional ammo with your shotgun..."shotshell cards".
There is nothing better than stripping an empty card off your frame and slapping on a fully loaded one!
In this video we show how it's done and discuss why it's preferable to fixed shell carriers.

Items for everyday carry
We were asked to share our perspective on items for everyday carry. So much of this decision is composed of factors such as body shape, clothing, weather conditions and social conditions. In the case of this video, the basics for me include a knife, a light, and gun. Guns I often carry include the G19, the M&P Shield, The M&P Compact, S&W 640 to name a few.
I'm also a fan of having a metal safe to secure your firearm in you car if, for some reason you cannot have the gun on your person.
Each individual needs to consider their own individual situation and adjust accordingly.

Modified Bill Drill
This is a great drill for pushing speed and accuracy. PAR time is 2.5 seconds regardless of distance. Start at 5 yards. At the tone, draw and fire as many shots as possible in to the center of an IDPA target.
For new shooters, work your way up from 2 shots in 2.5 seconds to 3, 4, and 5 shots in the 2.5 second PAR time. Once you can deliver 6 shots in 2.5 seconds, move to 7 yards. While not part of the drill , I like to shoot some head shots from 7 to keep myself honest.
As you can see from the target, I threw shots out. This is okay. I want to push my skills to failure to see where things fall apart.

M&P .45 Police Trade
A quick look at the Gen 1 M&P .45 Pistol. This is a used police trade in very good condition. The gun has night sights, great ergonomics and came with two mags.
The trigger was very heavy at just under 8 pounds according to my Wheeler Trigger Pull measure. This trigger is too heavy in my mind and we'll upgrade to get it closer to 5 pounds which is totally acceptable for defensive / personal protection applications. Really impressed with this handgun!
Even with the heavy trigger I was able to get good accuracy. The gun was soft shooting and ate everything we fed it. For $374 it is one heck of a deal. Why but new?

Should you buy a new or used handgun?
I've had this question so many times, I decided to respond. We all enjoy buying new products. No one else has used them, they're shiny and pristine! However, the fact is there are some amazing deals on used firearms. I've been buying used guns for a couple of decades with great success.
As lots of us know, the average guy might buy a gun, put 100 rounds through it and put in in his safe. And then decides to trade it in at his local FFL and get something new.
Too often some self proclaimed expert tells a new gun buyer that they have to buy new. For new gun owners or those on a tight budget the "must buy new approach" may keep them from spending less money on a quality used gun.
In this video we share some examples of why I believe you should consider used police trades. It today's market with prices going up, the used firearm might be a great alternative.

Top 5 long guns for prepping
I was asked by a few subscribers to share my top five picks for long guns and "prepping"... some subscribers referenced preparing for the breakdown of society due to the pandemic. I feel this is stretch but feel it's better to be prepared than not having a plan at all. Remember prepping requires far more than guns and ammo. You need a plan and reserves of water, food, shelter, medical supplies, to name a few.
While some may disagree with my long gun choices I considered factors like availability of ammo, caliber, size, weight and my experiences with these specific five guns.
What are your top five "prepping" long guns?

15-10-5 Handgun Drill
This is a great handgun skill drill. It's shot from 15, 10 and 5 yards. Par time is simply the distance times the seconds. So the Par time at 5 yards is 5 seconds.
The target is an NRA B-8, but you can use anything with a circle of 5.5" or so. The goal is to keep all shots in the black (5.5" radius). 30 rounds total with each shot counting as 10 points. 300 would be a perfect score. A passing score is 270. There are lots of variations you can do with the drill but this is the example of its basic form.

Sig Romeo1 Pro (Red Dot) with the P320 X5
We shoot the P320 X5 with the Romeo 1 Pro. Love the 6 MOA dot and the size of the window. I don't shoot the P320 X5 as much as I do other guns. However, the Romeo 1 Pro allowed for good hits on the range.
As stated on Amazon, "The Romeo1 Pro brings a new level of durability and performance to the miniature open-reflex red dot sight. Its aircraft grade aluminum housing ensures corrosion resistance under the harshest environments, and a new upgraded point-source emitter provides increased brightness in day or night conditions with 12 brightness settings. The molded glass aspheric lens has upgraded high performance coatings for superior light transmittance and zero distortion giving you fast, responsive target acquisition and accuracy. The Romeo1Pro includes a ruggedized protective shroud in the box for extreme durability."

My selections include:
.22 semi auto (agnostic on brand or make provided it's reliable)
9mm semi auto*
9mm semi-auto AR15 style with brace (PWD)*
38/357 Revolver
5.56 / 223 AR style pistol with brace (PDW)
* Note: I'd be happy with pretty much any caliber (.40, .45, 357 Sig, 10mm) for the PDW as long as it has interchangeable magazines with one of your other pistols.

The 3 target drill
This drill uses three targets set at 3, 5 and 7 yards. It's a great drill to simulate multiple threats. There are numerous to modify the drill based on shots fired, shot location and target engagement. Movement and use the of cover can be utilized to make the training even more realistic.
In this video I shoot at a slow to moderate speed and focus on getting hits.

Beretta 1301 Tactical, Range Review
We shoot the Beretta 1301 Tactical shotgun. We found it fast handling and very easy to shoot. Really appreciated the ghost ring sights with the fixed front post. Felt recoil was mild for such a lightweight shotgun... All in all, impressive.
During our range session we fired 100 rounds of multiple types of birdshot and all functioned flawlessly.

Shotguns for home defense?
I share some thoughts on Shotguns for home defense. Two of my favorites are the Mossberg 930 SPX and the Beretta 1301 Tactical.
Shotguns are excellent home defense tools and frankly miss-understood my many. It's essential that the operator take the time to learn how to efficiently operate, shoot and reload the gun.

Thoughts on the S&W M&P Shield EZ 9 and the EZ 380
I'm impressed with these two single stacked designs from Smith and Wesson. The guns are designed to facilitate easy slide manipulation, takedown (field stripping) and loading. They're a good option for those folks who may not have the physical dexterity or strength to manipulate the slide on a standard semi-auto pistol.
