Sizzle Season 2023 has arrived in Splatoon 3, and with it comes a brand-new mode known as Challenge Mode, where battles under special conditions take place at specific times. The first week of August repeated three previous challenges: Too Many Trizookas, Sheldon Sampler, and Foggy Notion. So this is my third try at the Foggy Notion challenge, which is a Turf War challenge on Hammerhead Bridge and Eeltail Alley. Level 4 of Base Ganymede episode 2 is probably the worst level in the entire game. I'm really not a fan of forced Tyson gameplay, and this level is exactly that in spades. The only way to play this map is from pistol start because of the death exit at the end of the previous level, and the only weapon you get the entire level is a Berserk fist, forcing you to punch hordes of imps as they pelt you with their fireballs from a safe distance, as well as being unarmed against a Baron of Hell and even a Cyberdemon (though thankfully you can just telefrag him). I thought I would never be able to beat this level. If you're playing this on Nightmare or UV+, all I can say to you is good luck. As we continue our ascent up Battle Mountain, the way to the central cave above where we fought Rainbow Rafflesia is now open! Inside this cave lie four more Superbosses and four of the hardest bosses in the entire game! Say hello to the Dark Players! Third on our list is Dark Natalie, a busty succubus that is in my opinion the easiest of the Dark Players to take out. She's like the polar opposite of Dark Matt. While Dark Matt had the most HP of the Dark Players, Dark Natalie has the least. While all of Dark Matt's attacks were physical, all of Dark Natalie's attacks are magic (except when she gives herself Berserk status which you'll want to Dispel ASAP!). While Dark Matt's backup units were serious threats, Dark Natalie's crystal backup units are weak. Just get some resistance to Fire, Ice, and Dark as well as Freeze resistance against Dark Natalie's Absolute Zero limit break and Instant Death resistance against her Black Hole limit break, keep your buffs up, keep the Debuff Trifecta up on Dark Natalie as much as possible, take out the Crystals ASAP to keep them from buffing Dark Natalie, and you should be good. As we continue our ascent up Battle Mountain, the way to the central cave above where we fought Rainbow Rafflesia is now open! Inside this cave lie four more Superbosses and four of the hardest bosses in the entire game! Say hello to the Dark Players! Second on our list is Dark Matt, an undead pirate who is, in my opinion, the hardest of the Dark Players. Don't bother buffing yourself here, because Dark Matt's Anarchy sword will Dispel you with every hit, and that's IF it doesn't do quite enough damage to kill you. Like Dark Anna before him, Dark Matt can also use Matt's Cleaver Limit Break, which WILL kill at least one party member unless you use Natalie's limit break to give everyone Auto-Life status beforehand. He can also heal and buff himself by eating a bat periodically, and he summons one of the worst types of enemies as backup: Monoliths! He starts the fight with two Viking Monoliths by his side that can buff the entire enemy party as well as freeze you on top of their devastating charge attack. Syphon those things ASAP! Dark Matt can also summon Undying and Sky Monoliths with his limit breaks which are no better. As if all of that didn't make for one hell of a difficult boss fight, when you get Dark Matt down to 1/4-1/3 of his health, he'll switch his sword to the Drill Spear which deals more damage the higher your defense is buffed. So at first buffing was pointless because of his sword's Dispel ability, but in the final phase buffing actually becomes counterproductive. He also has the most HP of all of the Dark Players dragging out the fight even longer! Episode 1 Map 8 of Base Ganymede is a very short boss level, but it's all too easy to screw up and die. The goal is to enter the Spider Mastermind's box next to your starting location, but in order to do so, you have to navigate a teleporter maze over a pool of lava all while the Mastermind is pelting you with machine gun fire. It's tougher than it sounds on paper, especially since the death exit at the end of the previous level forces you to play from pistol start. Good luck trying this on UV+ or Nightmare! First on our list is Dark Anna, a ranger of the night whose bow attacks deal massive damage and can inflict all kinds of status effects like poison, stun, and freeze. She can also use Anna's limit breaks after you deal enough damage to her, and she can also heal and buff herself by eating a bat periodically. She can also summon undead bears and evil worms as backup, but only when she uses a limit break. Those aren't so bad to deal with, definitely much more manageable than the backup that the other Dark Players can summon... Just get some status effect resistance, keep your buffs up, keep the Debuff Trifecta up on Dark Anna as much as possible, and you should be good. Sizzle Season 2023 has arrived in Splatoon 3, and with it comes a brand-new mode known as Challenge Mode, where battles under special conditions take place at specific times. Episode 1 Map 5 of Base Ganymede is the longest and probably hardest level in Episode 1. I had initially tried playing this wad on Ultra-Violence Plus, but this map right here was my roadblock. Hordes of enemies in small rooms (especially in the narrow slime corridor just beyond the yellow key door), combined with the first Mastermind and first Cyberdemon encounters in the game make for one doozy of a map!
