The Lucy Buffett & Mac McAleer Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour.
Are you here?
If you’re here, just know that we appreciate you. Thanks for tuning into The Paul Leslie Hour.
We’re honored to present Paul’s interview with Lucy Buffett and Mac McAleer. This interview with Lucy and Mac was recorded at Lucy’s restaurant LuLu’s at Homeport in Gulf Shores, Alabama on March 10, 2007. It was originally broadcast on the radio, during the Stars Fell on Alabama festival.
LuLu’s is a place renowned for fun, food and music. No doubt, many of you heard the sad news about Jimmy Buffett, Lucy’s brother. Fun, food and music were a big part of his life as well. We were heartbroken to hear about Jimmy’s passing on September 1st.
If you’ve been listening to The Paul Leslie Hour you know how many people and events from the Jimmy Buffett world have been covered here. And some of you know, Paul’s very first broadcasts were heard on Jimmy Buffett’s Radio Margaritaville in 2003. To honor the troubadour of the tropics, we’re bringing out this interview with his sister Lucy and brother-in-law Mac. You’ll hear in Lucy’s voice something of her brother. You’ll recognize the same joyous spirit and childlike enthusiasm.
Carson Forrester, a listener of The Paul Leslie Hour and a boatbuilder commented the other day on Paul’s instagram. He said “heart breaking Paul, keep the stories coming.” Well ladies and gentlemen, that’s what we’re going to do. Please subscribe to Paul Leslie’s YouTube channel and don’t forget to hit the bell. We’ll keep the stories alive.
And with that, I think we’re all ready to listen. Here’s Lucy Buffett and Mac McAleer on a beautiful coastal day.

What we have here for you is an interview from the archives with Jeff Pike, a recurring and cherished guest on this show. Until now, there were a total of four available interviews that Paul Leslie did with singer and recording artist Jeff Pike, and now with this episode releasing, there are… five. Five. I’ll tell you right now, this is the best of all of them. It was done kind of spontaneously— in-person, face-to-face. But, the nature of this interview was very personal.
Jeff Pike is the front man and founder of the band A1A, known in the tropical music world. A1A had just released the island-inflected album “Beach Wrecked,” when this interview was first heard. The latest news is that Jeff Pike has released a solo single entitled “Sunset on L.A.” You’ll want to check it out.

Are you here?
Thank you for being here, tuned in to The Paul Leslie Hour. We are pleased to present the Beth Petty interview as we say “Hats off to Hank!” You see Beth Petty is something of a Hank Williams expert, as you’ll soon find out.
The year 2023 is the Centennial year of Hank Williams, 100 years since his birth and well…let me tell you a bit more.
On this episode we’re taking you to Montgomery, Alabama for an interview focusing on the great Hank Williams considered the Father of Contemporary Country Music. Born on September 17, 1923 in Mount Olive, Alabama, Hank Williams began playing music after his mother gave him a guitar at 8 years old. Hank Williams learned his singing style in part from a blues street singer named Rufus “Teetot” Payne.
Williams went on to perform across the United States. He had many hit songs and was a favorite on radio and television. Hank Williams was and perhaps is the greatest country star of all times. Hank Williams passed away on January 1, 1953 at 29 years old.
Yet Hank Williams music continues to get new fans. His songs are known by everyone. You cannot get much more “American” in music than Hank Williams. His songs were covered by countless musicians from Johnny Cash to Willie Nelson. Patsy Cline to Jimmy Buffett. George Strait. George Jones. They all recorded his songs.
Even when people do not know the name Hank Williams, people from around the globe know the songs…”Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “There’s a Tear in My Beer,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” “Jambalaya,” “I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive,” and of course “Hey Good Lookin’.”
Hank Williams’ legacy lives on at the Hank Williams Museum in beautiful Montgomery, Alabama where this interview was recorded. On this episode we are joined by Beth Petty. She’s the manager of the Hank Williams Museum. It is a museum filled with photographs, press clippings, and numerous personal artifacts belonging to the late Hank Williams including his personal Nudie suits, instruments and many fascinating exhibits.
We want you to be sure to go to http://www.thehankwilliamsmuseum.net There will be some upcoming event for Hank 100. You’ll find out about it there.

Bahama Bob Interview on The Paul Leslie Hour
The Bahama Bob Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour.
Are you here?
Oh… you must be busy… busy, being here. Thank you for joining us right here, on The Paul Leslie Hour.
We’ve got an interview with Bahama Bob that’s been just waiting to come out. It originally broadcast on the radio in 2007, but the interview itself was recorded in a very nice hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bahama Bob you may be asking? Some of you already know. When your host Paul first became aware of Bob, his first thought was: “He seems like a real baller.” Good word to look up in the dictionary: “baller.”
This man, Bahama Bob splits his time between living in the United States and the Bahamas. He is a boater, operator of a Bahamian resort, oh and he’s a Jimmy Buffett fan, too. So he’s got that going for him. Which is nice.
This is a man who has taken life by the teeth, and has worked hard, but maximized fun. Bahama Bob is going to share with you some of his philosophies in life…which includes kissing frogs (in the metaphorical sense.) He is a man who truly has the island spirit.
Before we begin the interview, I’d like to invite you to please help us out by subscribing to Paul Leslie’s YouTube channel. We’re trying to get to 3,800 subscribers by mid-October. We just had a big, big boost. We thank you for that. Subscribing is easy and free.

Are you here? That’s the first question. The second question is, “how ya doin’?” We’re all about our proper greetings here on The Paul Leslie Hour.
This interview from the archives is Paul’s second interview with ALO.
ALO is a rock band from California. In an age when bands come and go, ALO continues to make records and perform around the world. Now you may be asking where that name – ALO comes from. Are you here?
So, are you here? That’s a question everyone gets asked every once in a while. We like to start every episode of The Paul Leslie Hour with that question because it is you, the listener that is so very important to us.
Throughout more than 19 years, there have been so many talented musicians that your host Paul Edward Leslie has been in awe of. One particular singer-songwriter who makes some incredible recordings is Zach Rogue. Many of you know him as the frontman for the band Rogue Wave.
When Paul caught up with Zach Rogue, it was to talk about a side project. This interview goes back some years ago. We’re pleased to present a digitally remastered version available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio, etcetera.
What you’re about to hear is Zach Rogue of Rogue Wave talking about his other band Release the Sunbird. It’s a short chat, and you’ll notice an undeniable “telephone” sound. Back when this was recorded, Paul didn’t have a nice microphone. He had this self-constructed device that allowed him to record cell phone interviews. We’ve done our best to clean it up.
We have quite a number of interviews in our archives that need to be brought out for everyone to hear. There are expenses involved. You can give yourself and others the gift of stories, by contributing. Just go right here and contribute via PayPal. http://www.thepaulleslie.com/support

I ask if you are here because frankly, that’s just part of what I do. What I’m doing right now is announcing another episode of The Paul Leslie Hour.
So what is T. P. L. H as some call it? It’s a compendium of interviews with all different types of creative and interesting people. This one from our archives was recorded backstage in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s with a guy that everybody just calls “Merlo.” “Merlo?” you may be asking.
You’ll just have to join us for this short conversation with Merlo Podlewski (aka J Radio). At the time Merlo had released his 4 song EP “J Radio,” described as Hip Hop Rock / Psychedelic.
Merlo is also known as the bassist in Jack Johnson’s band. He’s the East Coast and grew up on a steady diet of Rock, Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz and Reggae. Bahamas, birth name Afie Jurvanen, did this interview with Paul Leslie, quite literally, on the street of Atlanta, Georgia. He was playing at the Variety Playhouse years ago. They couldn’t quite find the right place and so they ended up walking down the street and sitting down on some steps right near the street. The original recording which went out over the radio was kind of noisy. You do what you can!
All these years later, we’ve cleaned up that recording so all of the good people on Spotify, Apple, iHeartRadio and elsewhere have the best listening experience possible.
We’ve got a lot of interviews and reviews that will be added for the remainder of 2023 on YouTube. You know, YouTube. Well, you can subscribe to_ _Paul Leslie’s YouTube channel and ring the bell, and you’ll always be in the loop, see. It’s free to do it and we’d sure appreciate it.
