Hebrews 1:1-4
. Jesus, co-eternal, has always existed.
. Jesus is presently our high priest.

[In these last days spoken unto us by His son.]
Hebrews 1:1-2, Jesus came down to earth as the last of the prophets, and told many prophecies and parables, where the latter does not mention specific names and times (and therefore parables can be applied to any generation at any future time)

[Creator of all things.]
Hebrews 1:2, 'by whom also he made the worlds'

[Preface.]
2 Timothy 3:16-17, all of God's Word is applicable
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Mark 2:23-28
[Jesus rebuked again.]
John 5:5-9, Jesus and His disciples are in Jerusalem, by a pool called Bethesda on the Sabbath, and Jesus commands an impotent man (who had been ill for 38 years) to rise, pick up his bed, and walk; then immediately the man is healed as he obeys Jesus
John 5:10, the Pharisees accuse the healed man of violating their law, concerning carrying things on the Sabbath
John 5:11, the man tells the Pharisees that whoever healed him (for he did not know Jesus at that time), commanded him to do so (carry his bed)
Mark 2:23-24, again the Pharisees bring an accusation on the Sabbath, but now directly to Jesus, concerning harvesting a field
Deuteronomy 15, God's original instructions on harvesting, does in fact allow harvesting for sustenance
Matthew 11:28-30, God's yoke is not supposed to be oppressive, like the law of man
. the Pharisees' law prohibited a variety of granular details on the Sabbath, including carrying items, writing, lighting, pouring of water, dress code, occupation specific "codes", etc. - and it became oppressive over time, rather than fulfilling the Word of God
Mark 2:24, the Pharisees question Jesus and His disciples about why they continue to challenge their man made law
[Jesus teaches scripture.]
Mark 2:25-26, Jesus reminds the Pharisees (if they were truly knowledgeable on the Old Testament) about how Abiathar the son of Ahimelech (the priest) treated David; the priest was more concerned about the health of David than about legal details
1 Sam 21:1-6, David and his followers pursued by Saul, ran out of food, and came to the sanctuary asking the priest to share the bread (originally asking for 5 out of the 12 loaves that were already set on the altar, instead of the other set of 12 for the priests alone). The priest responded with a simple request: that only certain men who met specific conditions (see verse 5) could eat the bread.
Matthew 15, Jesus accuses the Pharisees of substituting the traditions of men as law, over the truth of God's Word
[Lord of the Sabbath.]
Mark 2:27, the sabbath was made (by God) for man; man was not made for the "sabbath" (sabbath according to the Pharisees) - or man was not made to be oppressed by man made laws and traditions
Mark 2:28, Jesus is the Lord of the sabbath; God made all things including the sabbath

June 11, 2023, Mark 2:23-28, "Jesus, Lord of the Sabbath" (Live)

June 4, 2023, Mark 2:18-22, "The Gospel Of Jesus Is Unique and Pure" (Full)
[Jesus rebuked.]
Mark 2:18
Mark 2:18-22, the Pharisees see Jesus eating with His disciples, instead of fasting
Mark 2:13-17, recall that Jesus is celebrating with Levi (Matthew)
. 'The Scroll of Fasting' from the Pharisees, added to the Old Testament, concerning the Sabbath:
.. limits the number of footsteps a person may allowed to take on the Sabbath
.. gives additional instructions about fasting: every Monday and Thursday requires fasting
.. mentions other fasting rituals
. 'be not as the hypocrites'
. 'Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.'
Matthew 6:2, old Jewish law: strict laws on alms and offerings, but Jesus tells His disciples to give alms and offerings without the aim to please men
Matthew 6:5, old Jewish law: prayer was mandated at certain times of the day, but Jesus tells His disciples to pray without the aim to please men
Matthew 6:16, old Jewish law: strict laws on fasting, but Jesus tells His disciples that if they fast, do not do it to please men
. worship is NOT meant to be a ritual; worship is a personal relationship between God and the worshiper
[Jesus corrects His accusers.]
Mark 2:19, is it right for people to attend a wedding, but fast while the bridegroom is present?
. fasting is prohibited on weddings
. Jesus is the bridegroom (the bride is the Church)
Mark 2:20, first reference in Gospel according to Mark, to Jesus' death on the cross, after which there will be fasting for momentary grief and also for wisdom and courage to continue on
Mark 2:20, Jesus dwelt (in the flesh) among people for 30+3 years (God among us), was physically taken away, resurrected and ascended, and then the helper was sent
[Jesus explains the Gospel's purity.]
Book of Acts, the growth of the Church and also the spiritual battle against it (both to outright destroy and to stealthily pollute and undermine)
Mark 2:21, it makes no sense to put the (new) Gospel into the old rituals, just like an old hole will still continue to tear (even around a new patch that was sown onto it)
. the truth of Jesus Christ will never be held captive by man's beliefs and inventions
. the wheat shall be separated from the chaff
Mark 2:22, it makes no sense to REUSE an old wine skin
. wine skins were made from the skin of a goat's neck
. as the wine fermented in the wine skin, the wine skin would expand
. at the end of the process, the wine skin would be disposed
Mark 2:22, new wine must be put into new wine skins; the Christian Gospel cannot be poured into the old rituals or any kind of religion or cult- it stands alone, for it alone is the truth

May 28, 2023, Mark 2:13-17, "Jesus, Friend of sinners" (Full)
[Preface.]
Mark 2:13-17, Jesus calls Levi (a tax collector to the Roman government) and eats with sinners, and the Pharisees ask why He fellowships with those sinners.
Luke 7:36-39, a sinful woman finds Jesus eating with a Pharisee in his house, and anoints His feet.
Luke 7:44-50, Jesus forgives her sins and her faith in Jesus is revealed to the self-righteous people in that house.
[Levi called to follow.]
. mini-background: a tax collector (like Levi) could report fishermen who moonlight (continue fishing at night to overcome the burden of taxation), to the Roman government
Mark 2:13-14, Jesus calls Levi, and immediately Levi leaves his comfortable and profitable station behind and follows Jesus
. mini-background: Matthew (whose other name was Levi) transformed from a record keeper for the Roman government (a tax collector), to the author of the Gospel according to Matthew
[A community of sinners listen.]
Mark 2:15, Levi invites others to come eat with Jesus
. note: a lot of people want Christ and are unsure of how to meet Him (for they were sinners)
[The self-righteous judge.]
Mark 2:16, the Pharisees question Jesus and His disciples, for the Pharisees (in their self-righteousness and proclaimed cleanliness) separate themselves from such people (people in the context of these verses) who are coming to Christ
Mark 2:17, 'those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick'; Jesus responds, explaining that He is calling sinners to repentance

May 7, 2023, Mark 2:1-12, "Jesus' Authority to Forgive", (Full)
[Points and references.]
[Curiosity gathers.]
Mark 1:38
Mark 1:41-45
Mark 2:1-2, a massive crowd gathered when Jesus returned to Capernaum.
Mark 2:3-4, significant effort is made by 4 men to bring a paralytic, through the crowds and through the roof of Simon Peter's house, to Jesus for healing.
Mark 2:5, Jesus using His authority to forgive sin. In this instance the patient is a paralytic.
Mark 2:6-7, Pharisees as usual, were waiting for an opportunity to see if Jesus would transgress their law, and they did not believe Jesus had the power to forgive a paralytic of his sins.
[The believing paralytic.]
Mark 2:5, the power of Jesus to heal both physically and spiritually. In this instance, Jesus heals the man spiritually (later in verses 9 thru 12, Jesus heals him physically).
1 Samuel 16:7, God sends Samuel to find the future king of Israel, telling him how God can see into the heart (ex: Matthew 11:7-8), for the future king cannot be recognized by outward appearances.
Probably the faith (ex: faith in things not seen or apparent) of the paralytic in Mark 2:5, allowed him to believe in the authority of Jesus to forgive sins.
Mark 2:6-7, despite all this, certain scribes (who had the law of the prophets) still gathered together to judge Jesus.
[The unmistakable power of God.]
Jeremiah 17:9-10, God searches the heart and mind.
Mark 2:8-9, Jesus moved on to physically heal the paralytic, after he perceived the hardness of the hearts of these scribes (Pharisees).
Mark 2:10-12, Jesus physically showed His authority (to forgive and heal) and also healed the paralytic from his medical condition. Recall Christ already said the word spiritually in verse 5. In this instance, the obvious act was shown (through physical healing), in front of the scribes and the hardness of their hearts.
Mark 2:12, the same paralytic (now former paralytic), walking past the same crowds he was carried through earlier.
