June 25, 2023, Hebrews 1:1-4, "The Second Person" (Live)

Streamed on:

[Some background.]
Hebrews 1:1-4
. Jesus, co-eternal, has always existed.
. Jesus is presently our high priest.
. Revelation, Jesus will accomplish His will.

[Incarnate Christ]
Daniel 3:24-25, Jesus appears several times in the Old Testament as the 'pre-incarnate' person, who appears on earth and then disappears on earth in these accounts.
. He has experienced everything a normal human (like us) would experience: hunger, persecution, suffering, etc. through these visits, especially when He came down to earth, and today through the Holy Spirit

[In these last days spoken unto us by His son.]
Hebrews 1:1-2, Jesus came down to earth as the last of the prophets, and told many prophecies and parables, where the latter does not mention specific names and times (and therefore parables can be applied to any generation at any future time)
Matthew 17:1-5, prose; actual names and imagery appear
Matthew 17:5, Word of God fulfilled: taking the law and the prophets and turning them over to Christ, who was then taken and nailed to the tree

[Heir of all things.]
Hebrews 1:2, heir of all things
Psalm 2:6-7, when put in proper context, 'begotten' refers to the start of a certain time and space (Jesus has always existed)
Psalm 2:8, in His preeminence, He is heir of all things

[Creator of all things.]
Hebrews 1:2, 'by whom also he made the worlds'
John 1:3, all things made through Him; God spoke all things into existence- that is Christ created all things through the Father, who spoke all things into existence
. "made the worlds", example: Alpha Centauri (one of our neighbors in space) and beyond
John 1:1-3, God created all things and sustains all things

[The brightness of and perfect image of God.]
Hebrews 1:3, express image of God
2 Corinthians 4:4
2 Corinthians 4:6
Colossians 1:15, again Christ is co-eternal; 'firstborn' refers to the fact that all things came from Him

[Upholds all things.]
Hebrews 1:3, by the word of His power, sustains all things

[Preeminence of Christ]
Hebrews 1:3, 'purged our sins' by substitutionary atonement
Isaiah 53:10, God the Father bruised His Son to pay for our sins
Zechariah 13:7, God was qualified for substitutionary atonement due to His preeminence in all things
Matthew 26:31 and Mark 14:27, say Zechariah 13:7 again

[Exalted on high.]
Hebrews 1:3-4, sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high (God the Father)
1 Peter 3:22, resurrected and gone into heaven, sitting at the right hand of God, till all His enemies are His footstool

[greeting]
Psalm 108:1-5
