“The Dark Night of the Soul” is a phrase that was coined after the poem “Dark Night” by John of the Cross. The Dark Night of the Soul is the onset or continuation of a spiritual awakening. A dark period in one’s life, seeking truth and purpose. A period after seeking truth, questioning everything, losing everything, experiencing extreme cognitive dissonance, facing triggers, addictions, suffering in despair, and a complete deconstruction of beliefs…a dismantling of the old paradigms that no longer serve, plummeting into the depths of darkness.
