Potato Harvest First Attempt, 105 Days Not Long Enough.
We planted 4 pounds of Red Pontiac seed potatoes in the spring and I thought they were ready for harvest. Guess not.
Some died in the ground and had nothing, others look like they just need more time to develop.
I'll let them sit in the ground for another couple of weeks and see how they do.
Disappointed, but this it how we learn.

Made In America: Bully Tools Closed Back Shovel Review
Communism Sucks, Buy American, Your Grandkids Will Thank You.
After breaking a few Chinese crap shovels, I decided to drop a couple of extra bucks and get an American Made product.
I'm glad I did, and I'm hoping you will do the same.
This is probably the last shovel you will ever need to buy and I can not recommend it enough.
If you buy from BullyTools.com they always use the same 10% off promo code: WEEKLY10
The code will work on different products every week, but the code never changes, so put it in the coupon box when you check out and there is a chance you'll save a few bucks.
I was paid nothing to make this video, this is just my honest opinions on a great American Made set of tools.
Link to the Shovel reviewed:

D Handle, Closed Back.
When I grabbed this link, I realized I misspoke in the video about how much I paid for the shovel.
I said $35 and current retail is $53.68 for the version in this video.
Back in February I paid $51.13 for it, so inflation is not the cause for the price difference, just my poor memory.

Kelley Trying to Hand Feed the Chickens Black Soldier Fly Larvae
I picked up a 5 pound back of Black Soldier Fly Larvae off of Amazon.
The chickens love the stuff, and it's got Calcium so its kind of a treat and a supplement in one.
My wife, Kelley, is trying to hand feed the chickens for the first time in this video. They are still a bit shy for hand feeding, but I don't think it will take long for them to warm up to her.
Here is the link to the 'worms' she is feeding them:
https://amzn.to/3zJVQEz
Currently about $30 for a 5 pound bag, which is way bigger than you would expect. Bag is about 12x12x6 inches.

waiting for the chickens to go to bed
The black chickens are Ameraucana not Australorp.
The day after filming this we got a blue egg from the hen, so that kind of settles the matter.

Project Chicken, And then there were Five...
I misidentified the 2 black chickens in this video and probably the prior one.
The Craigslist ad called them Black Ameraucanas, after a bit of research here:
https://www.thehappychickencoop.com/chicken-breeds/
Its obvious these 2 are Australorps.
Per the breed info:
"The feathers of the black Australorp have a beetle-green sheen in the sunlight giving a stunning iridescence to the feathers."
Per the breed chart, these are better layers than the Ameraucanas, and their name is a lot easier to spell, so I'm cool with Australorps, just wanted to clarify the misidentification.

Project Chicken, The Coop is Finished!!!
So, 5 weeks after deciding getting chickens would be a good idea, the coop is finally done!
All thats left to do is close in the run between the coop and the chain link fence, which can wait til morning.
I'm guessing I've got about $600 into this project including wood, chicken wire and hardware, plus what scrap I could find around the garage.
Tomorrow these feeders and watering cups arrive from Amazon, the kind that fit into a 5 gallon bucket that about a 1000 Youtubers have already made videos on.
https://amzn.to/3cDgjBG Watering Cups
https://amzn.to/3cokLnR Feeders (yes I paid the extra dollar cuz they are Orange.)
We plan on getting 3 hens and a rooster this Sunday. Stay tuned for more.

Making a Fence Gate with $50 in Parts and some Top Rail
If you've been watching my Project Chicken videos, then you know I've been trying to figure out how to get a gate at the end of my chicken run.
After watching a few hundred Youtube videos I noticed how a pre-fab chicken run made it's door using this part:
https://amzn.to/3yV2Xtj
Once I figured out what the part was called, I manged to find some at my local Lowes. They can be found with the other chain link fence parts in the Garden Department.
Lowe's product link:

This build is pretty simple and straightforward once you are aware of the concept. I think editing this video took about 3 times as long as the build did.
