The door has been working fine for a week on light sensor mode, no real complaints, but like all tech, it works til it don't. So we'll see how it does long term.

Chickens Exiting thru the new Kerbonnixs Automatic Door.
Just a short snip of the chickens using their new Kerbonnixs Door.
Saturday February 11, 2023. 7:12am,
Door on Light Sensor Mode.
Looks like I might need to recalibrate the door as its about an inch lower on full open from when I installed it last weekend.
Other than that, it's been working great and we get to sleep in a little later.

Owners Manual: KEBONNIXS Automatic Chicken Coop Door Opener
This owner's manual apparently only exists in the box with the product.
If your like me, you want to be able to read this stuff before buying.
Door Dimensions are also more difficult to find than they should be.
Spoiler: 11.5 inches tall, 10.25 inches wide.
I'm currently editing my Install and Review video of this item, and decided to post the manual as a stand alone video.
Hope this helps,
Eric

Live Egg Candling (with follow up comments)
First, apologies for the video quality, apparently running Prism in 1080p isn't a good idea.
Second, the egg candler on this Nurture Right incubator is crap. If the housing was made of black ABS instead of white translucent plastic, then it might be a bit better. Also, the hole does not fit the large end of the egg, which is where you want the light to be.
After candling, I watched a dozen or so youtube videos and didn't see anything that looked like what I was seeing with the POS built in candler on the incubator.
So, I decided to use the best flashlight I had that I could press an egg against, the Olight mounted to my Girsan Regard, (see https://youtube.com/shorts/e2LfWZerS-E?feature=share )
With a proper light I could see thru the dark mass that I assumed was dead yolk and see veins and movement within the eggs.
After the re-candle, I tossed one egg that was not fertilized, and the other 10 look viable.
I've ordered a 'real' candle light from Amazon ( https://amzn.to/3YlD13S ) and will recheck the eggs when it arrives on Wednesday.

Using Chain Link Fence Top Rail and PVC to make a Ham Radio Antenna End Pole.
Here is the link to the original main mast build from December 2020:
https://youtu.be/fLNruA9F4jY
I finally cleared out the section of back yard so we can put 3 or 4 raised garden beds out there, and needed to get the old guy wire that was connected to the end of my OCF Dipole off the ground so we don't walk or drive into it. It got whacked more than a few times as I was clearing out the brush.
I still had the 10 foot section of Top Rail and 1.25 inch PVC stored in the garage from when I originally intended to do this project a couple years ago, so all I needed to do was break out the Hand Auger ( https://amzn.to/3WYprm3 ) and screw the parts together.
I did not want to make this a permanent install, so I just used some old 4x4 to brace the pole in the hole.
If you did want to make this more permanent, you could drop the Top Rail inside a piece of Fence Post.
btw, Top Rails fit inside Fence Posts, and Fence Posts fit inside Corner Posts.
Hope this helps, feel free to hit me up with any questions.

January 28, First Batch of Eggs are in the Incubator.
Decided to grow the flock from 5 to ?? so I got me an incubator and starting collecting eggs instead of eating them.
This is my first batch, 11 eggs:
3 Black Americauna, Roo and Hen.
8 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes with the same Black Americauna Roo.
My plan is to only keep the B.A. Roos and of course most of the hens.
Depending on space availability some of the cross hens might be sold locally, but I want to get a nice stock of pure Black Americaunas.
Will be candling next weekend and will update then.
Thanks for watching.

Making a Roof over the Chicken Feeder to keep out moisture
Just a very simple project using some scrap metal and wood I had around.
The Amazon bucket feeder has started letting moisture into the feeder, which is not a good thing. I was looking at more waterproof feeder designs, but didn't feel like spending over $100 on one, so I decided to throw together a roof for $0.
The design is super basic, as you can see, but with it tied down to the chain link fence in the back its very solid and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Now it should keep the rain off the bucket feeder, and keep the chickens from pooping all over the top of the bucket.
Bonus they now get an extra perch and something new to climb on to fight boredom.
Hope this helps or gives you some ideas for your own chicken run.

Garden Prep January 2023. Tilling & Treating.
Just doing some garden work on a nice warm January afternoon in South Carolina.
Last year was our first garden and we had significant issues with the hard clay soil. Carrots and Potatos had a rough time fighting the compression of the clay and suffered.
Tomatos, Squash and other 'above ground' veggies didn't seem to mind as much.
I've been adding leaves, chicken poop and bedding (do you really want to separate em?), egg shells, old chicken food, and anything else that might break up the clay and inspire some worms and beneficial bug life to move in.
Today was nice enough to till in all into the soil, and I tossed in a 40 pound bag of Soft-Cal pellets just for good measure.
Hopefully when its time to plant in a couple months we'll have better soil to deal with.
